halfway there

This was the farthest that the AniWaya girl had been from her den. She'd made it all the way to the edge of the packlands and was quietly peering out across the lands at the layers of snow and tiny tuffs of grass that were peeking out here and there. She didn't think that it looked all that different than from where she lived but momma Tayui said she wasn't to leave the edge of their lands so she just contented herself with roaming along the edge, trying to see if there was anything interesting out there atleast. So far, there was nothing very appealing about these unclaimed lands.

The child was growing tired and was just about to plow back into the snow and race through the woods to find the comforts of momma's side and the warm den when she thought she saw a flash of color on the other side of the fence. She paused a second and looked around for any older packmates before she squeezed under the fencing and raced after the bright flicker of color in the middle of the field. Her tiny flag of a tail waving as she laughed to herself. She had done it now!

Of course, like always when she'd come across the glitter that she'd seen so far away it wasn't as exciting or worthy of escaping. She sat down next to the strange old human artifact, a glass bottle that was half buried in the snow. The price wasn't worth her time and the small puppy growled at it for what trouble it could have got her into. If it had been worthy booty she wouldn't be so cross, but instead the little one kicked snow over it in disgust and tried to scamper back to her own side of the fence where she would be safe and innocent of the crime she'd just committed.
