It was the note of happiness in his tone that drove yet another spike into her, even though she knew where it was coming from. She hated having to make sure he was hidden away, but it was for the best. Or was it? It seemed fair to start questioning that now because everything she hadn't questioned before was starting to surface and bubble away. But for now, she kept her composure when she thought she could not and without much hesitation as she spied him out in the dim depths, she curtailed the distance between them.



“You've certainly got this place looking nice,” she commented, making idle conversation. “Must be nice to have a house over your head, hm?” It was a bad attempt to make a bad joke, but she knew it was better than nothing. It was a roof over his head, the living conditions were pretty crappy, but he was back in an element that he had partially been raised in. In some regards, Jasper had been spoiled on some of his living areas; Corona had, up until they had gone overseas, lived with dirt floors and dirt walls. A wood door was about as fancy as they had ever gotten.
