a starlight in the gloom

It felt so good to be here, in her mate's arms. His warmth, amplified by the heat from the fire, was just what she needed to relax and feel good. She closed her eyes for a moment, leaning her head against his shoulder. A smile came to the white wolfess' face at Pendzez's reaction to her news. She knew he would be happy. And she was happy too. They would have their own family soon. It was exciting, but also slightly stressful news; Xeris would have to find a place to keep the pups safe and stay safe herself until they were born.

"I wonder what they're going to be like," she mused aloud, her head still on Pendzez's shoulder. "A-and, we have to think of names, and..." Her heart was pounding. It was such an exciting thought. But she didn't even know how many there would be, or if they would be male or female. Based on the time of conception, they'd be due sometime in early December; she and Pendzez would have until then to talk about names and the like, she supposed. Though it seemed so far away, Xeris knew that the time would go by more quickly than she thought. "I'm going to find a cabin," she told her mate. "So we can all keep warm in the winter." She supposed that was the first step to getting things ready, and a very important step as well.
