The white wolfess closed her golden eyes for a moment, taking in the sounds and smells of the area around her. The waves gently roared against the sparkling sands, and the sea breeze tickled against her nose happily. The seabirds squawked and cawed above the water, searching for prey beneath the undulating waves. It was so peaceful. The harmony of the area calmed every nerve in Xeris' body, as it always had in the past. She smiled.

And then, there was a different sound. Something of a "whimper-crash-bang!" Xeris abruptly opened her eyes and whirled around. There on the sand was a small wolf--at least, she was pretty sure it was a wolf--who seemed to be struggling. After a moment she realized that he seemed to be trying to shift. She quickly walked over toward him and knelt beside him. "Are you all right?"

No, Xeris, he's not very all right at the moment, she thought. Xeris decided that since he was having trouble shifting, he probably still wanted to be in his lupus form. "Think about having four legs and looking like a regular wolf," she said quietly. "Focus on your body and how you want it to be. You're going to be okay." Xeris only hoped that the young wolf would be able to get himself back into lupus form, because she didn't know anything else she could do besides tell him to focus.
