refuse to remain complacent

The only warning Hybrid had been allowed was a bellowing cry of vengeance. Hybrid suspected it would be vengeance, for he and Gabriel – and a smattering of Infernians who he had neither met nor cared for – were currently unleashing a fiery fury on Haku Soul. Although alert, the attack came quite suddenly, and Hybrid had to make an awkward dive to the side to ensure that the oncoming woman did not harm Gabriel. In his attempt to push the dark-hued warrior woman aside, she managed to dig her teeth into his flesh. Hybrid had been too complacent, too sure of his position as Hydra, to see her coming, and now he was regretting it.

Although Hybrid could pride himself on successfully redirecting the attack away from his leader, now, all he was thinking about was pain. It was raw and unbridled and the woman’s teeth ripped and tore at his flesh and fur. Her teeth dug in to his face and her claws ripped out a large chunk of fur and skin from his neck. Hybrid roared in pain and rage and tried to combat his attacker as best he could. In his attempt to both evade her attack and drive it away, he had rolled onto his shoulder as she dug in, but his momentum continued to carry him backward so he was able to roll over his shoulder completely and tear himself away. Her force and his movement backward had propelled both of them away into an awkward tangle of limbs and blood.

Her attack, though vicious, lasted only mere seconds. It felt like an eternity to Hybrid, but somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew it was only temporary. He followed through with his roll, pushing himself to his feet, but this time, moving forward instead of following her momentum backwards. He circled around the woman, and then launched himself at her. He followed her, his eyes trained and claws digging in to the ground until the right moment, swinging around in a tight circle and then launching himself at her to try and jump on her back and tear her neck out with his teeth and shred her with his claws.

OOC: WOOT!! This will be fun! >XD

It had always intrigued her, how time seemed to stand still in the midst of a fight. It was as though everything around the participants faded to a muddy background, and all that existed in the world were Kol and her opponent. The latter was the same mangy hybrid she'd faced in the last war, a dark-furred member of Inferni who'd left her with the twin scars that decorated her left eye, as well as countless others hidden along her body beneath her ebony fur. Though she truly believed this war was wrong, and knew better than to assume that all individuals of a certain influence were wholly evil, her current opponent was an exception. Kol had a score to settle with him, and it was one grudge she would not let go of.

It was with a sick joy that she felt her fangs taste the hybrid's blood as she made contact. She'd been lucky that he'd actually stepping into her attack rather than dodged it, in some false belief that her target had actually been Gabriel. Gabriel's fight was with Haku, and that was one battle Kol was willing to let her Rosen fight for himself. Their personal hatred for one another was the very heart of the current conflict, and the war would never until one of the two leaders was dead. Kol's talons grew sticky with her enemy's blood as she latched onto his body, holding on for dear life and tearing as deeply as she could as he suddenly flipped, curshing her for a moment beneath his weight. The dark Dahlian fought for breath as their momentum carried the two apart, and her violet eyes flashed as she glanced over her shoulder just in time to see the male's larger form leaping for her exposed back.

In a movement of desperation, Kol managed to flip herself halfway so that he pinned her beneath him face-to-face, her fangs glistening as she snarled up at him. She put the pain to the back of her frantic mind as the male's claws dug deeply into the flesh of her shoulders and chest. Claws on all four of her limbs fought to find purchase on any part of his underbelly, looking to tear into the soft flesh and weaken him. He was stronger than she could ever hope to be, but adrenaline pumped through her veins like a raging river as her arms attempted to keep his razor-sharp fangs from her neck and face. One thought cut through the rest as she struggled: she had to get him off her somehow or she was dead. She was faster, but he was much stronger, and if he was able to keep her pinned she wouldn't stand a chance.

You said mangy! Ilu! No one ever comments on how ugly, skinny and creepy-looking Hybrid is. Sad (WC:348)

Hybrid's movements came awkwardly, as the dark wolf flipped onto her back to somehow redirect Hybrid's attack. What a foolish move! Either she had never been in a fight before, or she had injured herself somehow, which made fighting from beneath easier. Hybrid wasn't sure how the latter could be true; since he had always found it incredibly difficult to defend when the canine attacking was trying to rip his innards out with his teeth. How strange. But it didn’t matter. She had given him a much better position now, and he would use it to his advantage in every way he knew how. He would rip and tear and try to attack her stomach, as Gabriel had when they had fought. For once, Hybrid was stronger than his adversary; it was indeed a welcome change. Although this would not change his fighting style much, he would be able to exert a bit of pressure and make his attacks a lot heavier than he normally could.

But Hybrid did not have time to think of such fantasies. He snarled as he batted away her forelegs and tried to push himself so he was in front of her back legs and keep his weight on her stomach. If he was far enough forward, he would no longer have to worry about the woman's back legs trying to dislodge him, and she could flail all she wanted. Hybrid felt one of his forelegs make contact with her shoulder, but this was not enough. Hybrid tried not to recoil as she slashed him across the face, and as she dug in to his neck with her claws. Nonetheless, Hybrid retaliated by slashing back at her, and trying to bite her neck. He snaked his head lower, trying to keep her forelegs at bay and bite at anything available. Although he was trying to aim for her neck, in the frenzy, he wasn't sure if he had even made contact. The slash across his face was starting to sting and ache, and he felt one of her claws make contact with the flesh under his right shoulder, ripping and tearing with excruciating pain.

OOC: OMG I had soooo many typos in that last post. x.x FAIL.

She was in deep shit. As she fought with everything she had to keep the male's fangs and claws from ripping her apart, her mind wheeled with every other option she could have exploited as he'd lunged at her. She could have used his momentum against him, flipping him over her as he'd landed on her back. She could have sprinted to her feet, leaping to the side and dodging. But she'd done nothing of either sort. Instead she'd rolled to face him face to face, probably the stupidest manuever she could ever had performed in such a situation. Kol knew better than that, but she had no time to inwardly scold herself for being so incredibly rusty.

All that mattered now was getting the monster off. She snarled up at him while inside she was near a panic. Any flesh she could grab, she dug her claws into as deeply as she could, ripping and tearing and hoping she'd hit something major. She managed to dodge her head to the side just in time to keep the male's hungry fangs from digging too deeply into her neck, a few shallow gashed opening up where they had grazed and torn. Fire raged through Kol's body as the male wounded her, but she forced the pain down along with her rising panic. No, she had to think, she had to figure a way out of this. In the heat of battle, to panic was suicidal. Kol had to survive; she had something to protect. Images of Bris, sweet and innocent despite the turmoil of war that reached across the two packs she'd called family, filled the older Stormbringer's mind. She was why Kol was fighting, to give her sister the chance at a life a peace, a life that Kol was never able to have.

With renewed vigor, Kol snarled as she suddenly pushed up with all of her strength, trying to get just enough space between her and the male so she could twist beneath him. If she could get him on her back as he'd originally intended, she was strong enough that she could more than likely flip, roll, or throw the brute off and get herself into a better position. She needed to get the hell off the ground.

Short post! Wanted to get a reply up P: Hope that's ok!

He could feel the female trying to twist and push herself into a better position, but Hybrid would not allow it. He dropped his weight down on her, trying to press her into the ground with brute force and hold her there with his teeth and claws. While she was distracted trying to move herself around, Hybrid tried to attack again. If he could lodge his teeth in and hold down, perhaps she would just bleed to death beneath him. He tried to slam into her with all his force and knock the wind of her while surprising her enough so that he could finally bite her. She had been moving about so much he'd barely even gotten a morsel. He knew it wouldn't be as simple as it sounded, but he could at least try. Now that he finally had a size advantage, he was going to damn well use it. He wouldn't let this sleep between his claws, no. Even if he hadn't been expecting her sudden surge of energy, it took his mind off her pathetic flailings. Though, no matter how pathetic they'd been, she had still managed to take a good swipe and pull a chunk of his right ear off. He hadn't noticed the throbbing pain until now, and the blood was starting to rush down his neck. That was fine, as long as it didn't flow into his eye.

OOC: Ok, this is my priority thread. YES.

He wasn't giving in. Adrenaline surged through Kol's body as she struggled, but for the moment, it was useless. The mangy dog seemingly had no weakness, and if the Dahlian didn't get some help or some miraculous stroke of luck soon, this would be it. Her mind was screaming in rebellion: she refused to die pinned to the dirt like a submissive little bitch. She'd made a critical mistake, the kind a rookie would make, and it seemed as though it was about to cost her her life. Still snarling up at the brute in defiance, Kol suddenly made a move of desperation. She dropped one arm from holding his weight up, reaching out to grab as large a handful of loose, stony dirt as she could. Fire raged in the background of the battle, burning embers falling all around the myriad of combatants, and Kol could only pray that her hand held some of those glowing cinders as she flung the earth at her opponent's eyes. If she were lucky, he'd be momentarily blinded or worse. If she weren't, her hail-mary move would prove her undoing as his weight crushed her to the ground.

Somehow, she just kept bouncing back. Hybrid could not understand it, but he certainly believed it; he could not allow his surprise to hinder the fight. If he wanted to come out victorious (whatever that might entail), he had to focus. Hybrid moved to attack her and drew himself closer, trying to bite at her foreleg. Somehow, it disappeared. Hybrid's movement continued downward and he lost his balance, falling on to the other canine, laying on her like a sack of bones. He tried to recover his momentum, and reared back to strike at her to try and distract her and force her to notice something else. At that moment, she shifted her weight and Hybrid reared back, anticipating another attack. Instead, she threw a clawful of sand and dirt into his eyes. Hybrid roared and pulled back, jumping off the female canine. The pain was horrible, and Hybrid realized he hated the feeling of having something in his eyes. He blinked rapidly and shook his head, trying to get rid of it. His awareness of the battle slowly crept back up on him. He was blinded and no longer in control. Hybrid knew that if he raised a paw to try and rub the sand out of his eye, she would attack. He continued blinking and started moving again, trying to put more distance between them. He could see a bit out of his left eye, but his right was useless. He bared his fangs, waiting for her inevitable attack. Even if she attacked him, he could still try and fight. Once he felt contact, he would know where she was. Then, he could continue to defend. He would be disadvantaged, but it was possible. Perhaps.

Hybrid snickered morbidly; he was a dead man.

OOC: =O Kol's so stupid. I wasn't sure if it was too soon for the retreat call or not, but her sense of fairness is what'll get her killed soon enough, lol.

She couldn't believe it. By some miracle of miracles, her throw had hit her target square on. Kol sprang to her feet and readied to defend again as the hybrid whose name she'd never cared to learn backed away, blinking and struggling to see. The black Dahlian couldn't help the satisfied growl in her chest as she too backed up, putting as much distance between them as she could. A quick glance around the area gave her the information she needed. The fire seemed to be calming, and a split second registered her alabaster sister helping to quell it in the distance. The battle around her seemed to be coming to a close, though she couldn't tell any casualties as of yet, but it appeared that Dahlia was driving back the Inferni infiltrators. Kol's stance was poised for anything, but she was tired, in body and mind. There was so much bloodshed, and for what? There was no doubt in her mind that this time around, the blame sat squarely on her exalted Rosen's shoulders. She was reluctant to add another body to his list of victories, regardless of her opponent's intentions or alignments. Kol firmly believed in an honorable course of battle, and as she had utilized a dirty trick in her own mind, she felt it was only fair to give her enemy the chance to walk away. No words were spoken; her hesitation should send her message.

Amid the pain and searing flames that engulfed his sight, Hybrid could hear the call of his Aquila. Hybrid could not see the dark woman too well anymore, but he knew she had to be laughing at him. He had her, and at the last moment, she pulled back and came out on top. And then the call for retreat came. She had to be laughing and dancing with her life in her hands, cajoling and coaxing her soul back into her body with kind words and sly glances. She had to be laughing, for the one moment when Hybrid could have finished her, she had won.

But now Hybrid could be the one to laugh. Gabriel's call for retreat was perfect. Hybrid could not see, and although he had aimed to kill the Dahlian, he knew he would not succeed if he could not see. He continued to blink, trying to dislodge the tiny sand granules from his eyes. Once he was farther away from Dahlian territory and with his leader, he could try to rub it or wash it out with water. Until then, Hybrid slowly tried to make his way back to the group of Infernians. He let out a few quick yips to let Gabriel know he was coming, hoping that Gabriel would reply and direct him on his way.

Hybrid squinted at his ex-opponent one last time before running off after his leader. He would not forget her.
