Urban Jungles

Funny how Halifax lay there, desolate, rather lonely. The bridges still stood of course, tall, majestic, layers of green paint creating a rather camo sort of theme. The smoke stacks too, the three red and white striped pillars broke the skyline remaining as an eerie testament of a time before. The harbor would take a few more years to fully recover from the decade of pollution that had been poured into it, though it was rapidly improving. Soon enough, one might dare to dip a toe into those brimy waters.

Cautiously, but with utter curiosity, the female in her feral stooped optime form, slipped down a disheveled boardwalk. The planks had long ago turned a deep fetid green, though somehow, they still retained their shape, though hazardous to walk too calmly on. The Victorian buildings, having survived the Halifax Explosion, still braved time, as the glass office buildings had since shattered and commenced to crumble. Of course now, nature was reclaiming the city, grass and weeds now replaced potholes and asphalt. The Gardens in the heart of the city had burst from its iron gates, and seemed to have spread like wild fire down the city streets, transforming it into a true urban jungle.

She couldn’t help but get drawn here, the downtown core of the once sprawling city. There had been nothing like this on the southern shore of Newfoundland. Tiny fishing communities had been desecrated, and there stood no tall structures of brick and steel, or none that she had travelled far enough to see. Here was fear and marvel, combined with the salty breeze she lived on. Though the air here was stagnate to what she had known before, and the territory, utterly alien. She lived on a land of vast rocky planes, and scattered pines. Here there were leaves, and hills rather then boulders and craggy wilderness.

Huffing she traced her way to a sturdy ledge, green eyes cast out to survey the ocean which she had loved and followed.

The Dreaming leader did not venture into the city often. But her memories of the place where not horrible. She had made quite a good friend here once, the clothed and masked coyote whom Anu had grown to trust and care for. He had been a hero, someone that chose good every time and never showed the battle that one might have between the moral and the evil that tempted them all. But still, the rough landscape did not suite her. She was a tree loving wolfess, a child of those that worshiped the Sun and more apt to be found with her hands covered with soil then her back draped in clothing. Still, she knew the things that could be found here and she sought out for a few of the creature comforts that came from a few hours of foraging the broken buildings. It was daylight, and thus Anu walked with little worry through the streets.

Once she had gathered what she had come for the female placed it all in the rough and ragged canvas bag that had been her first find. The strap was broken, and so she needed to tie a knot to keep it on her shoulder. But it worked well, comfortable on her Optime form and fitting all but a book that she had found with a flower on it's cover. Still, Anu lingered even though she could carry nothing else. Her blue eyes looking out at the taller buildings, noticing details that she had never caught before. It was interesting, and though she would always hold a ancient oak more beautiful Anu found the power in the plants that had reclaim everything the humans had built. She smelled the salty water, and not venturing to the coast often the Dreamer followed the scent to have a quick look. But the wolfess found that she was not alone in the pursuit of visiting the endless body of water. Distracted by her surroundings Anu had not been aware that she was coming upon a lone wolf until it was too late, rounding a corner to see the other just steps away. Startled the book she carried fell to the ground with a thud. Sure that her presence couldn't go unnoticed she spoke an apology, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bother you."

Very much open, thanks for the replySmile

She could have easily moved away, just scampered off at the first sound of footsteps, but she didn’t. She wanted to meet another; another of those who form she now took, of the ones who had turned her simple nature into something so much more. The female watched the oceanic waters, but her mind followed the stranger and the quiet approach. The sudden clatter of an object, and the unknown voice, startled and apologetic, brought her head slowly around, the movement unintentionally predatory. Her green eyes darted quickly to the lovely bright blues to the foreign book and the flower painted on its cover, which was startling from its displacement from nature.

The animal’s arms slopped forward as she turned, grasping the earth as her back legs bunched beneath her. She leaned forward head tilted to the side with a look of subtle bemusement and confusion. “Why it ain’t no trouble at all,” She said her voice light but rolling, curious to why anyone would take offense at someone passing by.

Ileana looked back to the feminine face, but her attention drifted to the odd bag slung on her arm. It was utterly alien, to carry something…to carry something. A smart idea surely it was, though the wolf never had anything she could consider a possession worth carting around. These souls were a strange lot, she was mystified at the stories she had heard, the rumors of their change of life from barbaric beastie to civilized creature. Perhaps too, somewhat repulsed by it all, after all, did you really need to carry more than the hair on your back?

“Whats that now, eh girl?” She cocked her ears forward, her muzzle dipping in the direction of the book.

great! maybe they can be friends ;D

Anu smiled at the other female, and she crouched towards the ground to gather up the book that she dropped. Her bag fell to the floor with a bit of clanking and clinking and she let the strap slip off her shoulder. The other female came to the ground as well, and Anu looked to her face and gave a friendly grin, “I don’t tend to sneak up on others.” Anu explained. She felt it unkind to just walk up to a stranger. Not everyone was happy to have company, but the Dreamer was always happy to meet another friendly creature.

“It’s a book.” She explained. She didn’t seem surprised that the nameless female was unsure what it was that she carried, a few years ago Anu wouldn’t have known what it was either. But she still could not read the words that were printed in it. It were the pictures that she had wanted to have, and perhaps she would learn the names that had been written underneath them. “A book about flowers.” she found it funny that she was called girl and smiled a bit broader at it. She hadn’t been a girl for many, many years. “I’m Anu, of Crimson Dreams.” she offered her name to the brown and gray female in hopes that she might get one in return. The Lt. General rose, coming to her full (though short) height.
