Pack thread! Woot!

Glaiven loped through the rain towards Whisper Beach as she carried out her plan to become familiar with and to explore her new territory. She noted that if the landscape was this beautiful in this kind of weather, she could hardly imagine its appearance in fair weather. She sighed in contentment, for her current feeling of peace was only intensified by the knowledge that she was now part of a pack; even when it was wet out and warmth was hard to come by, she was not alone. Trotting steadily along and feeling quite pleased, Glaiven spotted a of the beach, a little bit fuzzy but nonetheless there. She stopped about a quarter of the mile there; she saw a large, dark spot through the light drizzle on the coast. Proceeding cautiously, Glaiven searched her mind for an explanation as to how something so large could have appeared overnight. After all, no one had mentioned anything on this coast that accounted for it. Curiosity turned to amazement, and then to dismay as she took in the plight of an immense whale that had somehow managed to beach itself. To top it all off, now the tide was getting further and further away and the whale's chance of survival was getting slimmer and slimmer. She debated whether this trip would be a hunt or a rescue mission. Running a little ways away so as not to frighten it even more, she let out a long howl, telling all Dahlians within the area that help was needed.

Yay packthread!!!

It was one of the newer members of Dahlia that broke through the tranquil day that he had spent in solitude in the north-western parts of Dahlia de Mai. He immediately knew her location, and was pleased that he would be able to continue in the same direction to Whisper Beach and its lovely shores. The beach was a beautiful place no matter the season, but in the bright summer days this was one of the young leader’s absolute favourite spots within the pack territory. A good five more minutes with increased speed brought him to the scene, and the moment he recognized the large form resting in the golden sand, ears flew back against his cinnamon skull and his jaw dropped.

His slender form moved over to Glaiven and he gave her a light nod in recognition and greeting, but had a hard time taking his lavender eyes from the large body of a stranded whale. There was little the two of them alone could accomplish here, but he could always hope for more. This could be a splendid meal or something else could be done. He gazed at the enormous creature, a creature believed to have been one of the smartest living beings beside man. The young Soul male could see the different perspectives clearly, but knew that he would wish for this creature to continue to know life. ”How long has it been stranded here for?” he asked the young female, realizing moments afterwards that the question might have sounded a bit silly.

OOC: Yaaaaay!!!

Bris' mood matched the rain that poured down upon her. She'd spent much of the morning sitting quietly beside her sister's grave in Flander's Field, neither crying nor speaking, trying to deal with everything that had happened in the most recent of days. She was a Stormbringer; she was strong, but no strength was absolute. The encounter on the beach with Kol's killer had left her feeling more vulnerable than ever before, and the white woman knew it would be a very long time before she confidently set foot outside of Dahlia again.

The Stormbringer was unsure whether anyone had picked up on the change in her recent mood. It had only been a matter of days since the attack, but Bris hadn't been her usual, cheerful self since. Unwilling to worry anyone, especially Conor, the woman put on a mask for the pups she cared for and spent much of her time away from the home she and they shared with the alpha. Let them all think she was still shrouded by grief for her sister, and her frequent visit's to Kol's grave would only serve to further that assumption.

Bris sighed heavily as she placed a scarred hand on the wooden marker, then rose to her feet, knowing she'd spent perhaps a little too much time here today. The pups needed her, and would worry should she be gone for too long. As the white luperci turned to head back toward Wolfville, a sudden call rang across the packland. The girl stopped in her tracks, not recognizing the caller's voice, then turned her feet in the direction of the howl and set her two legs into a ground-eating jog. Doubtless her lupine form would have been faster, but she was still sore and didn't wish to aggravate any injuries by forcing a shift.

As the snowy girl arrived at the origin of the call, her blue and violet eyes widened in shock. Conor was already on the scene, a thing not unexpected of the ever-dutiful leader, and there was a woman whose pelt matched the silvery clouds that hung in the sky. Yet more fascinating than either of her packmates was the enormous dark spot on the beach. It was a whale, something Bris had only read about in human stories. The woman had never had the chance to see one for herself as they tended to stay much farther out at sea than she'd ever cared to venture. The creature's loud breathing was obviously labored, and it's sleek black skin looked to be drying in the springtime air. The only good thing was the fact that it was raining, keeping the beast's skin far more moistened than it would have been on a bright, sunny afternoon. Blinking away her surprise, Bris gave a nod of greeting to the strange new Dahlian and exchanged a look of wonder and worry with her alpha. "How...how do we get it back out to sea?" The thought of making a meal of the magnificent whale had never even crossed the girl's mind.

We're in a whale of a mess. XD

Gazing at the whale with a mixture of worry, amazement, and pity, Glaiven waited for help to arrive. The unbelievably huge creature was stuggling to breathe, or so it seemed. Glaiven thought this was a given, for how could something so large and heavy support itself out of water, let alone keep its weight from crushing its lungs. As this grim thought few around inside her head, she turned around in reaction to the sound of pawsteps coming closer. Worry-filled eyes met those of her leader, Conor Soul. He wondered aloud how long the creature had been there, and she replied, "I'm not sure. I've been here for about fifteen minutes. I don't see how it could last much longer..." She trailed off as a snow white figure approached in her Optime form. The female, whom she assumed to be a member of the pack, nodded at Glaiven in acknowledgment and looked at Conor. Glaiven understood. Introductions would wait, whereas the desperate whale would not. The newcomer then voiced the same question that had been running through Glaiven's mind, and she answered, "We could tie something to its tail and pull it back into the water...but that would take a boatload of wolves and they would have to be amazing swimmers, too." She redirected her attention to the whale, ears pricked for suggestions.

Nayru heard the call but as the voice was not yet known to her she did not hurry. The past few days had once again been spent in solitude, mulling over the connections she had made in the pack. Unsure of her purpose more than ever, nightly the white lady pleaded patience with her and Nayru was content to listen. Still the memories of her parents and siblings elicited no sorrow; instead she soaked up everyone else, memorizing them, trying to understanding them. If anything, she would one day understand them all. Why Conor was seemed so pure but incomplete, why so many motherless puppies wound up in one place, and why the animosity towards Inferni hung over them like a heavy blanket on a hot day. Once she understood, she would know her purpose, she felt that, but she was too far from understanding. Most days she had to be content with taking baby steps toward her goal, and it was with baby steps she arrived, near soundlessly to the beach, finding the three adults overly concerned with a massively large ocean creature Nayru didn’t have a name for yet.

With soundless steps Nayru glided over to them, her blood colored eyes meeting the round, disk sized ones of the whales. Never once did she make eye contact with Conor, Bris or the newer, unnamed female, her attention was fixated on the whale. It seemed that she murmured to the whale, the words barely audible in her sweet, doe-like voice. "What is it?" Hesitantly she leaned closer to the creature, her wet nose touching the wet, but drying skin of the whale. Nayru felt the distress of the animal, and now noticed the labored breathing and she thought of the spider she had killed. She thought of the meat she had consumed that morning, provided still by the adults of Dahlia despite her six month mark fast approaching. Why were those lives taken and this one to be spared? If they could even spare it.

The white, ghostly form of the friend with the bi-coloured eyes arrived shortly after, and it seemed the choice had been already made as she spoke and wondered how they were to get the large animal out into the sea again. It seemed that the possibility of turning the majestic creature into dinner was out of the question, and this was good, as the coin hued male more often than not choose life before death. Summer was blooming and the game flourished with old and new alike. This unique opportunity to gain heavy amounts of free meat was not needed. No, it would just be a waste. White tipped tail waved gently behind him as Glaiven suggested a possible tactic to assist the whale out into safe waters again. An ear absently turned in thought while lavender eyes all the same watched the large, dying form before them. The little, oddly coloured form of Nayru appeared as well, but at the moment they were too few for such a plan to bear fruit. "This is a whale, a mammal of the sea."

"I'm uncertain if we have the number needed to pull that off," the male's soft voice clang sadly, trying to build further on to this suggestion brought by the silver coated woman with the golden eyes. It was good to see that her chest held a kind and warm heart. Conor thoughts returned to one of his many books, to a specific one more a comic than a book, where humans had pushed a large ship back to sea. they had used lumber under the thing to more easily push it into the awaiting water. Could that be an idea?
"I read somewhere once that the humans once used lumber under large objects that they were to push into the sea. If we somehow could get some behind it and under its tail, it could work if we were strong enough to push it back and on top of them." it was the only idea he could come up with, but he was by no means an experienced wolf in years or knowledge.

He looked to the three wolves, including Nayru as an equal. Children owned the most amazing minds, and could often offer assistance brought up without the mental limits that most adults built up at one time or another when their childhood ended.

Gideon had seen his aunt Bris leave that morning but hadn't shadowed her like he normally might have. This morning Shiloh had wanted to play, and he had chosen to follow his sister around rather than his aunt. Before coming to Dahlia, he had always followed Shiloh everywhere she went...and it seemed that some things hadn't changed too much despite how much others things seemed to have. The pup was just finishing a long-winded game of tag with his sibling around the outside of the house when he heard the call, and his little ears perked up in interest. What did that call mean? Was it one of those big pack meetings? Should he go to it? What about Shiloh?

He would have to go and check it out. He could call for Shiloh if she felt like coming later...or if it was something real important. Gideon started running for the area from which the call had originated, mindful of his still-healing injuries. They were getting better, but sometimes would open up again if he took too long a stride. He kept his footsteps on the short side.

The charcoal pup came upon the group in a huff, breathing heavily. He'd come a little late..hopefully they wouldn't mind! Aunt Bris was there and he immediately went to her side, peering out at Nayru from behind Bris' back. Conor was there, too, but when Gideon noticed the leader he kept his eyes to the ground and snuggled up against Bris' side. He didn't want to seem disrespectful to Conor. Gideon was more focused on the wolves that were there, on who he knew and who he didn't know, than the actual purpose of the call. Once he was finished looking at all of the wolves (there was one there who he didn't even know!), though, his turquoise gaze went to the whale.

Never having seen such a thing in his life, the pup seemed puzzled. He caught the tail end of what Conor was saying, about it being a "whale" and "mammal", but those words didn't mean much to the boy. He looked at the rock for a second before looking away, dismissing it. "Why we 'round dis big whale rock? Is dis a meetin'?" He asked Bris, looking up at her.

It was a drizzly day, but this didn't stop the blue-furred wolf from getting outside. The rain was cool as it dripped into her fur and the monotonous dripping of the droplets on her head caused her to enter a trance. She was dozing off in a patch of flowers when she heard the howl pierce the air and, despite feeling slightly dazed, her sense of duty called her to the wolf in need. She stood slowly and padded in the direction of the call, stretching her legs as she walked.

She arrived more slowly than she had hoped and a conversation was already underway. Most of the wolves were around a creature smelling of the sea and she quickly skirted the creature with curiosity, taking in it's scent. She could sense it's distress and caught the last pieces of conversation. From what she could see, this creature wasn't in good shape and she doubted that it could survive the stress of being moved.

As Reverent paded through the trees she had come to a sandy beach. Reverent had been talking to the wind and listening to the tales she caried. As the black wolf watched the waves splash about, she felt the mist of the water dampen her fur to a black darker than the night. Her blue eyes had diststance in them as she stared out. Then a howl peirced through her ears and the mist filled air. Her head turned to the direction of noise and she bolted to reach the wolf she known not of who had become part of her new family.

As she had gotten closer she saw a group of wolves formed around a giant whale. She heard the voices of the wolves shimer in the mist filled air. She caught some of the conversation of how the whale was in distress. Reverent paded through the sand to a white/grey wolf with amber eyes. She stopped next to the wokf her paws sank into the sand of the beach. She spoke to the amber eyed wolf, "I agree with you. If we could gather enough wolves as you said...we could help this whale back to the sea." She turned her eyes twoard the other wolves. "Pardon my rudness. My name is Reverent."

A whale, mammal of the sea. Well, it was indeed a strange creature that swam in the ocean but had ended up stranded on this beach. Nayru stared up at it, moving about it’s body and thinking over Conor’s words. Lumber to push it out? With just the four of them and Nayru too young to shift she wasn’t sure how they could accomplish that. She did not say so, for voicing uncertainties and negative ideas would damper their optimism and hope. Instead she turned as Gideon appeared, favoring him with a smile and wag of the tail as she hadn’t any of the adults and then turning back to the whale as he kept close to Bris. "You‘ll be okay, don‘t worry." Nayru whispered to the words to the whale, knowing that creatures other than canines did not understand her but feeling that perhaps the animals might take comfort in them all the same.

Others arrived, both female strangers that she did not know. That made three of them and Nayru peered up at them without words, even as one of them offered a name. Reverent. Instead she inhaled the salty smell of the sea and turned dark red eyes out to the water that stretch too far to see any land. Again she directed her words to no one in particular, her whispery voice almost swallowed by the sounds of the whale’s breath and the nature roll of the waves. "If we could keep it alive until the tide came back in it wouldn‘t be too hard at all, not with all of us." Nayru knew very little about the whale and she would admit as much, but water she understood. She knew the tide would come back up, eventually, and she also knew that heavy objects, such as whales, were lighter in the salty water. When the water rose if they could just get the whale started… eventually it would thrash and thump and help it’s self out to sea.

Aislinn's ears flicked as she heard another wolf appear from behind her and she turned just in time to catch her name, Reverent. She seemed just as concerned as the rest of the pack to get the large stranded mammal back to it's home. Aislinn smiled at the thought of such a compassionate pack of wolves and she felt a surge of pride as she realised that she was a part of it. Turning back to face the whale, she padded forwards and pushed her nose onto the smooth, cold skin of the whale to sample it's salty scent. The skin felt dry and this struck Aislinn as strange, surely a creature of the sea should have wet skin? She realised this and turned with some urgency to face the other wolves, "Sorry to interrupt, but I think we need to try and keep it wet."

Reverent was listening to the wind that whispered to her and moved through her black fur. She was looking into the eye of the whale that had washed up that this pack of wolves. The whale's eye was wide with fear and was moving to all the wolves that had surrounded it. She continued to look into the pit of the whale's eyes full of dark depths and mysteries of the Ocean.

As Reverent had been watching the whale's dark eye she noticed that anohther wolf ,blue and white, had touched her nose to the whale's furless skin. Curious Reverent walked over to the other wolf standing next to her but out of the perhiperal vision of the blue and white wolf. A look of worry and urgency appeared on the female's face. She had spoke of keeping the whale wet. Thinking quickly Reverent ran to the water and used her tail as best that she could so sweep accross the salty cool water and up onto the whale. She looked at the blue and white wolf and then too the others. "Maybe we can keep the whale wet this way?" She turned her attention back to sweeping her tail accros the water and splashing it onto the whale.

More seemed to pop up. Little Gideon asked Bris about what was happening, and Conor decided that he would leave the puppy to her. Instead, he turned to see Aislinn and Reverent appear. It was pleasant to see so many members showing up, but he was unsure of how much good it did the whale. He listened as Reverent addressed another, yet he doubted the very idea that he had come up with. Nayru’s words made much sense, and he wondered whether or not this should be the idea they should pursuit. The whale was enormous, and even if those who could were to switch into their luperci forms, he was far from certain that something could be done for the majestic animal.

Aislinn seemed to agree with the child, as well as to mention that the large mammal should be kept wet. The lavender eyed male said nothing; chose to observe his pack members. Dahlia had a good group of souls. It seemed none of them had decided that the stranded animal should be turned into free food. He liked this automatic respect for life, and felt a bold pride in his chest. It was starting to get crowded, and he recognized the stress in the giant’s eye. ”Be careful,” he gently warned, concerned about his members’ safety as well as the whale’s lack of calm. Reverent’s method of splashing salt water at the whale was effective, but there were other options as well. ”That’s good, Reverent.”

The alpha’s face turned to Bris. ”Lets go and fetch some buckets,” There was the smallest touch of irony. Bucket service was something the two were not unfamiliar with. He turned and headed off and away from the beach; steering in the direction of a few holiday cabins that were not too far from here. Buildings had once owned most of the lands Dahlia had claimed, and so there was no lack of crumbling human structures.

OOC: Sorry for my missing posts, I just got back from a week with very little internet! XD

Bris' slight spell of shock and awe was broken as first Nayru and then little Gideon appeared on the scene. The female pup seemed to be caught up in the same tide of amazement as Bris was at first, and the look on Nayru's face made the snowy adult smile. Before she had a chance to answer the child's question, Conor did so in his gentle, soothing voice, making Bris' smile widen a bit. Gideon's voice grabbed the woman's attention next, and she crouched down, draping an arm around the boy as he snuggled his coal black body against her. "It's actually an animal Giddy, not a rock. If you get a little closer, you can see it breathing." The white woman's mismatched eyes were soft as she explained to her nephew. "We're all trying to figure out a way to save it. It belongs in the sea, and if it stays on land for too long, it'll die." Bris' face fell a little at that prospect. She hoped the Dahlians would be enough to save the creature.

It wasn't long before more members answered the call for help. Most of the faces were newcomers Bris' recognized only as scents and forms she'd kept fleeting track of around the packlands. Fortunately, they were a smart bunch, and each had helpful suggestions. Bris flashed a proud smile at Nayru as she offered her take on it. The child was right: as long as they could keep the creature alive until high tide enveloped it, it would be able to free itself from the sandy shore without much help from the wolves. The other newcomers realized that the beast's skin was quickly drying, as the rain had begun to let up its helpful downpour. Keeping the whale wet had to be the key to keeping it alive.

As she rose, Gideon's form still snuggled against her leg, Bris chewed her lip in thought. There had to be a more efficient way to soak the poor creature's massive form. Apparently, the alpha's mind had taken up the same thought process, though he arrived at the obvious conclusion more quickly. As he turned to pose his idea, Bris caught on instantly. She smiled as she joined in the last word of Conor's sentence, the irony not lost on her in the least. "Giddy, why don't you go make sure Nayru doesn't get too close while we're trying to keep the whale wet. I don't think she'd enjoy getting stepped on if someone doesn't see her, or squished if the whale suddenly gets spooked." With an encouraging smile and wink, Bris ruffled her nephew's ears and turned to catch up to Conor. At least this time there wouldn't be any collapsing buildings engulfed in flames. Bris had been quite happy her singed fur had grown back, though the tiny patches weren't quite as long and silky as the rest of her snow-white fur.

It was explained to him that it was an animal, and he took a second look at it. He had never seen something like this before and almost didn't believe Bris, thinking that she was joking with him...but then he saw it move. It looked somewhat weak there on land, so used to being in the water, and Gideon listened to the adults as they spoke of solutions on how to save it. "We gonna save its life, aren't we auntie? It looks not-happy..It looks like it is suffering" He said solemnly.

Thoughts of his mother came to him then, of what she had looked like when she had been toward the end of her life. He was slowly beginning to understand that Abi had died, that the red stuff coming out of her had been a bad thing. That she had been in pain. This whale had many scrapes on it..but not enough to make it die from losing its red stuff. But it still looked very sad and weak.

He followed the orders that his aunt gave to him, turning to Nayru. "She said for us to back up, Nay, so we don't get hitted by the whale or get 'tepped on. Do you wanna look for a few seashells wiff me over here? We could dig, too, and watch 'em wiff da water!"

Aislinn listened to the discussion that was flitting around the pack and she watched as each member of the group spoke in turn, absorbing their knowledge. Her mind was whirring around, trying to think of new ideas, so when she heard Conor suggest the use of buckets she nodded and agreed instantly before realising that it would be difficult for her to use them as she lacked a luperci form. However, this didn't stop her from wanting to help the whale and she padded to the water's edge where Reverent was splashing the whale with her tail. Aislinn watched for a while, picking up the technique before diving into the water and joining Reverent's attempt at keeping the whale wet, "This was a good idea!"

Nayru’s ears perked at the sound of her name coming from Bris’ mouth. Silently she observed the younger child being given directions to keep her out of the way as the adults labored to keep the whale alive. Cherry eyes turned back upon the whale, a creature Nayru now felt obligated to and even bonded to. She’d rather help keep the creature wet! Of course, small as she was and unable to shift there wasn’t really much she could do. Giving in with only an inner and silent sigh of defeat the black and white girl turned toward her ebony companion. "Okay! Let’s go look." Nayru allowed the boy to lead her down the beach, and though her eyes were forward her ears swiveled back to catch the constant “splash, splash” that the tails and bodies of Revernt and Aislinn made.

Pausing when they came across shells, Nayru bent her nose down to them, forcing herself to focus on this task at hand rather than the excitement and worry about the whale. Every so often she dug at the wet sand with her tiny paws and nudged a shell over at Gideon to examine, but her mind kept straying back to the whale. Meeting eyes with the younger male, she knew it was best they were out of the way for now, but when they were older…

OOC:Hey guys sorry I didn't reply very fast. I couldn't log on at one point. Uhm, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how they got their Avatar and Table? I'm really new to this, sorry. Heh ^^"

Reverent had continued to splashing the large animal with salt water. The wind picked up a bit, giveing a light mist through the air. She heard a conversation going on amungst the other wolves. Reverent continued to splash the salty water onto the drying but turned to moist animals skin. She saw the Alpha and another wolf leave as the wolf who she had watched with the blue and white fur come over and observe her throwing the water with her tail onto the whale. After a moment she joined in and helped splashing the whale with salt water.

Reverent heard the blue wolf's voice speak to her saying she had thought of a good idea. Reverent smiled at the blue and white wolf. "Thanks." She smiled at the wolf that joined in helping her keep the whale wet. "My name is Reverent, by the way. What's yours?" She decided that this wasn't good enough so Reverent stood in her Luperci form and used her body to create waves to cover more of the whale's dryed skin.

Aislinn continued swishing her tail. She was rather enjoying herself, feeling the cool water flick against her fur and then splash noisily onto the whale's thick skin. She found herself unbalanced slightly by the force of her tail and she splayed her feet out wider, digging her claws into the sand that was underneath the splashing waves. Aislinn was pleased that Reverent decided to speak to her and she replied happily, "I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself! I'm Aislinn." She watched Reverent move into her luperci form and sighed slightly; she could certainly move the water much more efficiently with her paws. "It must be so much easier doing this with paws..."

Reverent continued using her paws to launch the water onto the whale's back. She saw two young wolves head over to a diffrent area. One of them kept looking back as though wanting to help. Reverent focused back on the task at hand as she shoveled the water onto the giant whale's back. Shouldn't the Alpha and other female he went with to get the buckets be back? She thought to herself. Though she had not been with Dahlia de Mai for very long the black female Luperci could not but worry for her new found pack memebers.

Reverent heard a voice from her side she turned to look at the blue wolf. Aislinn. Pretty name... she thought. Aislinn appered to be studying Reverent throwing the water onto the whale. The wind flowed over Reverent's body, You're almost there. Don't quit, remember what happened last time you did? the wind whispered to her. Reverent's heart stopped for a mere second. The wind had always whispered words of confidence and strenght never heart brake and strenght. when she had heard Aislinn speak again that had been the only thing that brought her back from the heart wracking pain she had just submited herself too.

Reverent started to throw the salty water onto the whale again as she answered Aislinn, "It's nice to meet you Aislinn. It's okay I guess. I've only used my Optime form to hunt and protect my...brother." Reverent stayed silent after that and continued on with the water. The wind whispered over her fur once again, she felt refresed and continued tossing water onto the great whale.
