The bag of holding
#1

This inspired the title

Anann had checked it time and time again. Wanting to make sure that ever stitch was sturdy and that there were no loose threads or strings. Every time she had failed to find anything at all wrong with the bag. Still she worried that it would not quite be what Mati had wanted. She hoped it was large enough, but also not too large. She had made it slightly bigger than average sketch book, or so she hoped. It was a messenger style bag. The main pouch was simply and plain. But and had made a second pouch as well, one with holders for brushes and pencils and a couple smaller pockets for charcoals or any other such things. The flap that covered the top of the back secured on the front with a couple of short wooden dowels that went through two round holes on the flap. The buckskin that was the fabric of its creation was a dark, rich brown.

Once she was finally convinced there was nothing more she could do for the bag, she decided it was time she went ahead and got it delivered to its rightful owner. It was her first custom order of sorts and Anann was excited to see Mati's reaction. Though there was also some nervousness that she would not like it. Knowing better than to go to crimson dreams manor with out rem, for the horse would be furious if he found he had missed an opportunity to see the pups again, Anann rode yet again across the rolling fields of Shiloh Hills to venture to the land of the dreamers.

Anann wore the bag across her shoulder, though as soon as she crossed into dream territory she tucked the pack behind her back. Hoping she might keep it from view til she was ready to present it to Mati. The heavy scent border was crossed, this time without a second thought. It was not far from the edge of the territory to the manor where she hoped she could find Mati. If not the earth hued woman herself, at least someone that could direct her in the right direction.

ah! super cool & thanks for starting!!

The sun was bright, but it’s position in the sky made her studio quite dim. So she sought to follow the light, and brought her book and pencils out onto the Manor’s porch and settled down to finish her drawing. It was done in graphite, the tip widdled away to become a decent point. She often wondered what new materials would be like, fresh fresh paints that she didn’t need to loosen with water or oils, pencils that hadn’t been rotted or broken, colors just as bright as fresh ground pigment. It was a world that did not belong to her, but she imagined it as she worked on the legs of the animal she drew. They looked too long, a scowl coming to her face as she look the old nub eraser and cut them down.

The day was pleasant and so the pack’s home was mostly deserted. She figured they were all out among the claimed lands or beyond. It was a good day to visit friends, Mati thought, with no clouds in the sky that spoke of rain in a serious dark grey tone. Shifting her position Mati crossed her legs and placed her book on top of them, staring at the picture for a few long moments. She then looked away; her eyes closed and counted the moments that passed. When they opened she moved them downward to looked at the sketch with a rejuvenated gaze. As they moved they passed over a figure in the distance, and Mati quickly did a double take.

It was a golden wolf riding a midnight black horse and there was no more recognizable couple. Mati rose from her seat slowly, waving as the pair came forth. The wolfess took the steps quickly to greet them. Her voice was filled with her excitement to see them both Anann, welcome! Mati was no longer afraid of the large horse, but gave him plenty of room for they were moving quite quickly.

Table by Gen

Anann had not expected that Mati would be so easily found, though she could hardly complain about the matter. Waving back at the earthen hued wolf, Anann's other hand went to her side to keep the back from bounce around to her side, or in front of her. While it was sure to be expected, Anann still wanted there to be some surprises for her new friend. Trotting up the porch of the manor, Rem slowed to a walk before halting a few steps from Mati. Just who I was looking for! It's good to see you again Mati. Hope I haven't caught you at a bad time. Though her smiling face made it seem rather unlikely.

Sliding from the back of her trusted steed, Anann did the best she could to keep the bag obscured behind herself. Though it was impossible to keep it completely from view. Now that she had found the intended recipient she was even more excited and nervous at handing over the bag she had put time and effort into. I was hoping maybe I could get a look at some of your art work today, if it's not any trouble. A coy grin on her face as she still kept one arm casually at her side to keep the bag poised behind her.

Rem came up behind Anann, shoving her a bit roughly as if she had forgotten something rather important. She shot a disgruntled look at the horse, before asking for the information he wanted. Rem would like to know if the pup's are up and about today. She said with a chuckle and a bit of an eye roll. Had she thought the orchard was reason enough for Rem to request frequent visits to the land of the dreams, but pups would command far more frequent visits.

This was such a pleasant surprise, Mati could hardly believe that Anann was here, and yet she stood right in front of her, Rem included. She wasn’t sure what she was doing here until the golden wolf expressed her intention of finding her once again. The idea that her bag might be ready didn’t even pass through her thoughts, for it was far too soon for anything of the like. It felt as if they had just seen one another at the beach. The Church fey looked at the black stallion, not feeling a single bit of the fear that she had when they first met. Of course she was not running up the horse to give him a hug, but a gently touch on the nose was far more friendly then she had been the last time. Not at all. Mati spoke, finding that there was no better time then the present to be greeted by a friend.

She brightened at Anann’s request, her smile widening. Of course, please come inside. The artist would love nothing more then to give a small tour of her studio. Her excitement blinded her from any small gesture that might bring the bag that Anann wore to her attention. Mati gathered her book and pencil and at her words turned to look at the large horse, whom seemed to look fairly intent on coming in the house with them. The Major was unsure if it was such a wise thing, but the wolfess’ explanation made sense while at the same moment confusing her. She didn’t know that the horse had met her brothers, or that he was fond of them.

I think that my mother has put them down for a nap. Which meant that the Lt. General would be sleeping herself. Now a days the little males didn’t need an afternoon rest, but she thought her mother wished them to sleep simply because by noon they had tired her out more then themselves. She wore a face that was laced with thin ribbons of concern, confusion as well.

Assumed you wouldn't mind the slight pp of them going inside <3

Mati had met them not far from the steps. It was good to see that Rem no longer seemed to make her uncomfortable, as the stallion nudged the earthen hued hand that reached out, touching his velvety nose. "Good." Anann said with a bright smile, she wouldn't want to be an inconvenience. If she were, she would simply drop off the bag and be on her way. At the word that the boys were down for a nap, Rem huffed and meandered off towards the orchard where he would bide his time until Anann was finished here. His disappointment was evident as he walked away with his head hung low. "Perhaps next time, Rem." Anann gave him a sympathetic pat as he went by before following Mati up the porch steps.

Anann followed Mati through the front door of the mansion. "So, how have you been?" Anann asked, taking a brief look around as they headed towards Mati's studio. The house was in surprisingly good condition and it would seem that its residents took good care of it. As they made their way through the main room the bag was still carefully and casually kept from full view. However, once they had made it into the confines of Mati's room, Anann pulled the bag out from behind her and removed the strap from her own shoulders, presenting it to its would-be owner. "And of coarse, this is for you!" She hoped the bag was everything Mati wanted it to be. "Don't be afraid to tell me if there anything you would like changed or added," she said as she handed over the leather bag. She was slightly nervous that the bag wouldn't live up to expectations, though it was still well made and would last longer than any human relic that could be found.

oh you know its fine! Big Grin

Anann made It easy for her to feel comfortable around the horse, having never pressed her to pet him and always being very calm and casual herself when he was around. They seemed so in sync with one another that Mati could accept his presence as easily now as she did Anann’s. His nose touched her hand, it’s soft skin bumping against the pads of her paws and Mati gave it a small pat. She was intrigued at the thought that he had come to see her three brothers, wondered how they felt about him and having a suspicion that Alder enjoyed him the most. The boy loved everything that was outside of their species. Rem turned and wandered away at the knowledge that there would be no puppies to play with and Mati walked to the house along side the golden wolfess.

I’ve been good, busy with the puppies. We have about six in the Manor now. What about you? She said with a smile. Lots of mouths to feed and many little curious minds to manage. Her home had never had so many at once, and the Nanny loved every minute that she got to have with her brothers as well as the Marino-Sadira pups. They walked towards her door, the sunflower painting hanging as a welcome sign. When they entered she was about to give an apology for the mess but when she turned to face the female there was something in her hands.

Mati was shocked, her mouth agape and eyes looking down at the bag and wondering where it had come from. It was perfect. She didn’t even needed to look inside it, or even hold it to know what it was most definitely perfect. Anann. She said as her hands reached for it. She held it there, unmoving and simply stared. Her comment made the bronze fey shake her head, No, its perfect She tone was stubborn and she opened it to look inside and then gave a nod. It definitely was. The leather was so soft that it reminded her of Rem’s nose, though of course it still didn’t match the horse’s skin. This is so generous. She said as she looked at the amber eyed fey.

Crimson Dreams certainly had its fair share of pups, if not more. Between the pups, especially Alder, and the orchards, Anann wouldn't be surprised if Rem tried to get her to move to Crimson Dreams. Luckily it was not far at all to visit. Especially at the pace that the stallion preferred to travel. Anann could only imagine the kind of trouble that many growing minds could cause. Been well. Got my cabin built and have been settling in. There was much that still needed to be done, and would be for some time. All in due time, it would provide shelter and warmth enough in the winter. That was all that really mattered.

Anann could have wished for a better reaction as Mati stared agape at the bag. Having mainly only using her leather crafting abilities for her own needs, she had been slightly nervous about crafting something for someone else. She was sure in her abilities to make something of quality, but she could only hope that was exactly what Mati had wanted. Anann beamed as it was declared perfect. She had hoped it would be just that. "I'm so glad you like it! Though, the bag was not a gift, they had agreed on a trade. Anann just had not had any idea of what she had wanted to ask for in return, at least not at that time. She had given it some thought since then and though she had something in mind. She still wanted to see Mati's work, just to make sure it was what she wanted.

Anann looked around the room, there were various pieces of the other woman's work scattered about. You are very talented, I see. Her style was very pleasing to the eye, or so Anann thought. The trade should be made with little trouble at all. Now that Anann had something in mind.

At the Cours woman’s news the artist rose her brow with pleasant surprise. She hadn’t known that she was building herself a house. That must have been quiet a feat. She spoke with slight astonishment. It would be a massive project, or so the Dreamer imagined. To build an entire house, it was quite beyond Mati’s scope. She figured that she had help from the whole pack, knowing that such a thing wouldn’t have been able to be done with a single pair of hands.

The church female couldn’t truly believe that Anann had made this for her, it was stunning in its simplicity and crafted for well. It would last beyond anything that she had found, and she was sure that it would last longer then she even would. The stitching sealed the bag together so well that she was sure that she could fill it with rocks and it still wouldn’t tare. Though she had every intention of treating it was as much respect and care as she would her own young. I love it. She corrected the other woman teasingly and with a smile. There were few gifts she had ever loved more.

As she looked around her studio space Mati stood quietly, allowing Anann to take them all it. Some where hanging, other leaning against anything stable. Some where finished, other she had hardly begun. It didn’t matter what stage they were Mati hang anything that she wished to look at or examine. Thank you. You must have many empty walls She returned, thinking of the new home. They arn’t all finished, I tend to work on many things at once. She said with a small smile. Other then that she just kept quiet and let the woman wander and look as she pleased.

Mati was not the first to be surprised that Anann had chosen to build her own home rather than just restoring some old decaying relic. While there were probably some building still in decent condition they had been built for the intent of human dwelling and Anann felt they were not quite suitable for herself, finding their ceilings too low to live comfortably. "It sounds more difficult than it is really. I spent months doing the prep work, but once that was all done the pack was able to help me get the walls up rather quickly." The day they had built her cabin has been a very satisfying day, and she felt the those that had helped her had felt pride in the job they had done. She had anyway.

It pleased Anann greatly to know that Mati was as happy with the bag as she was. Hell, she was just as ecstatic as the bronze woman herself. Her attention was quickly gobbled up though by the various paintings scattered about. Some were finished, beautiful works of art and others were still in various different stages of the process that would bring them to completion. Anann hadn't ever had a chance to see so many works in process, revealing the various steps the artist took from start to finish. "They are all so beautiful, even those that aren't finished yet." She commented as she continued to gaze around the room a bit awe struck.

"The whole place is rather bare to be honest." She said with a laugh. Having only filled her home with the most bare basics and what few things she had brought with her in her journey east. "I've been thinking a lot actually, about what kind of painting I would like to have." Many different ideas had floated though her head, but only one seemed to have stuck around for any length of time. "I was thinking something like a sunset on the beach, a luperci couple silhouetted." She had only come up with a basic idea, figuring the majority of the composition should be left up to the artist. Such things were not in Anann's skill set.

Mati didn’t know what she would do if they didn’t have the Manor. Haven Manor had been chosen by those before Crimson Dreams, before the pack had even been created. Another pack had lived here, though the history she knew was slightly hazy and missing details. It was odd for her to think of herself living somewhere else, this had been her home since she had opened her eyes, and though she had been raised as a pup beyond the immediate doors of the house she had grown up here and found her place among the many room when she was still fairly young. If she left, which she had never actually considered, Mati didn’t know where she would go. She listened, closely. Really? She questioned with curiosity, Is it made of logs? She wondered, figuring that it would be the easiest to make.

The artist held the bag, feeling the soft leather as she let the Cours female look around at the different things that littered her room. It was a visual over load, and the artist knew it. After living in the space like this for so long she had gotten used to it, even needing to be surrounded by it. The violet eyed fey smiled slightly as Anann described her home, knowing that she wouldn’t have been able to manage living there long with such a situation.

When she began to talk about the painting Mati concentrated on every word, even took the tone she spoke in into consideration. She seemed sure about what she wanted, having thought so heavily on the possibilities. Mati was slightly surprised, for there was no horse in the picture. She thought that Rem would have been part of the focus, but she was not disappointed by the subjects. She nodded her head, thinking for a moment. She had it in her head, the colors, the vision. A male and a female? She asked, thinking little of the question at first. If it was her choice she would paint figures of she and Cambi, though the portrait of the Marino woman still sat on the easel where she had worked and finished it. Mati never wanted to part with it, even if it was made to be a gift.

OOC here!

"Yea. Mostly I tried to use dead, still standing trees." There were many reasons for using lifeless wood. For one it would already be dried down and one could avoid the worry of the logs warping. The bark would strip off easier as well, if any was even left on the logs. Most importantly it spared those trees that still lived. Anann was proud of her home. She was proud of anything she made with her own paws. Her home would leak some in the rain and there would be cracks that the winter wind would howl through but it was hers.

There were so many paintings in the room it was almost a visual overload. Anann found her eyes travelling the room time and time again. Every time she looked she noticed something she had missed before. Sometimes a whole painting would seem to come materialize from thin air as it caught her eye or maybe it was the detail of one she had already scanned over that would jump out at her. She recognized the subject of one painting that rested on her easel, stepping closer for a better look."Wow, this one of Cambria is amazing!" Awe was evident in her tone as she gave it a second look.

Anann began roaming around the room, captivated by the art work around her, every now and again tossing a glance at Mati just to be sure she wasn't over stepping any boundaries. She gave a nod to the artist's question, eyes still locked on the painting she was looking at. It struck her as a slightly odd question, though Anann quickly remembered that Anu had once had a female mate. She had been about to dismiss it all together when her mind made a connection."So, you and Cambria, are you two together then?" It was a bold assumption to make and as soon as the words slipped off her tongue Anann worried she was wrong and hoped she had not just offended her new friend.

Being a crafter herself Mati could relate and understand to how it might feel to make a place to live. It was a huge sense of accomplishment, satisfaction as well since it was not just something to wear or something to look at. It was a place that she would live in for years, and even perhaps the rest of her life. She knew what it felt like to be attached to her home, and if she had built it herself, Mati was sure there would be even stronger feelings connecting her with Haven Manor. I would love to see it. She spoke with a bright smile, perhaps she would deliver the finished painting and be able to see where exactly Anann lived.

As they traveled through the gallery like room Mati knew that it was a lot, and a lot to look at. But when it came to the one that had been holding Mati’s true attention since she had decided to paint it was the focus of Anann’s words the Church woman stopped in her step and gave a nod, Thank you, it was a gift but I haven’t been able to give it up yet. She felt her face grow slightly warm as she said the words. There was something implied by her tone and face and words, and so she was slightly relieved in a way when the Cours fey moved on to look at other things.

The bronze woman sat on the nearest stool, letting her friend take her time to glance around at all the projects she was working on. When the question was given her purple eyes had fallen to her paws. Mati looked up, and after a single second of slightly shock that she hoped did not reach her features she spoke, We are. She smiled, unable to hold back that happiness that came to her with admitting that. But then the self consciousness that came with someone new knowing and confronting her about it rushed to her face and she tried to hide it and keep the pride surrounding her relationship above all else. Do you have someone? she asked, turning the attention towards Anann.

Table by Gen

Anann was no artist but she knew what it was like to craft something with her own hands. She had experienced what it was like to feel attachment to something she had made. Her tanning and leather crafting had started as something she had done only for herself. It had taken time for her to easily part with something that had so much time and effort put into it. But artwork was surely harder to part with. At least in Anann's mind it must be. A painting seemed so much more personal than a simple bag. The canvass that surrounded her seemed filled with emotion and life. Where else could that come from but the artist herself. "I'd think letting go of any of them can't be easy." Though if she didn't it was easy to see that Mati could easily run out of room.

Anann smiled as Mati confirmed her thoughts. The bronzed woman's expression making it clear there was no need for her to worry about Mati taking offense to the question. The look that frequented the other's face when Cambria came into conversation was not unlike the one worn by Haven when he spoke of his Princess. It was what had eventually lead to her putting the pieces together. "I...don't know." Anann spoke with a forced laugh and uncertain smile. Trying to hide the bruised feelings that bubbled to the surface when Anatoliy came to mind as of late. She had no real answer for Mati and that in itself seemed rather pathetic.

It was not just the effort that Mati had placed in the making of the painting. She had felt that before, creating something and pour so much of herself into it that giving it away would be like giving away part of who she was. But this was something that she had giving a lot of herself to, and it was a depiction of someone that she never wished to give up. The sight of Cambria was not a rare one, and the chocolate female was always willing to be with her whenever Mati hoped. But with this she was never without her face, and always reminded of the love that the two shared. I promise I will not hold yours hostage. She said with a small laugh.

She didn’t expect others to be offended or find the relationship that she and Cambria held to be odd. Mati had grown up with two mothers, but she knew that the world was not as open as the Dreaming pack was. She knew that not everyone was accepting, but she knew Anann better then that and found herself loosing that butterfly nerves that she held when admitting the relationship. She turned to notice that unknowing that was written all over the Cours female’s face when she thought to answer the question. Mati walked a step closer, sensing that hurt that was felt. It almost radiated off her gold pelt.

Do you want to talk about it? Mati gave the small opening that would allow Anann to express what ever it was that she wished to give. Sometimes the feelings just needed to be voiced for the healing to begin or for the confusion to end.

meh.

First it had been Princess and now Mati. Both had been able to quickly turn the subject of conversation towards the one thing that had been weighing heavily on Anann. It was frustrating. Anann had always done well at hiding her emotions when she choose and yet the one topic she wished to avoid and did not even want to think about inevitably kept popping up. Even if she did have to admit that her talk with Princess had helped. At least now she had come to realize her own feelings, even if she still completely clueless as to what the Russo's feelings might be. His mixed signals having her utterly confused as to what his opinion of her might be.

Anann honestly wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to Mati about it or not. Her pack mate had been a little more persistent than Mati's simple invitation. And while talking about it then had help Anann also knew that talking about also cam with those feelings of vulnerability that she hated so much. "There really isn't much to say," she finally responded rather lamely. She felt a sense of defeat, oddly enough. "I know how I feel, I just don't know if its returned or not." She gave a dismisive shrug, at this rate maybe she would never know.

It was just easy to move towards the other female’s possible relationship rather then dwell on her own. Mati was not one to try to hold the attention on herself, and though she did not believe that there was an issue with her preference as she had once worried, she was curious to know what it was that made Anann uneasy. But it was wrong to pry, how would she feel if they were in opposite positions? Mati asked herself and thwarted the urge to ask anything else when the answer came to mind.

She understood that feeling though, and knew that it was Cambria that had felt that way all those months ago. Mati simply hadn’t known herself if the feelings that came to her heart were true. She had been so confused, unsure and tried to find the right things to say and to express her emotions. It wasn’t easy, figuring out if it was love or right or perfect as she wished it all to be. But she had thankfully been able to realize that it was love and there was nothing more right in her life and that nothing was perfect because she could never be.

Mati touched the golden fey’s arm lightly, feeling as if she knew what this male might be thinking. Indecision was not honorable, nor was it something to be proud of or hope for. But it was real and as imperfect as each of them were. Perhaps he needs time, I know I needed more time then I believe I was worth. I’m grateful each day that Cambria waited for me, she didn’t need to. It reminded her how much she had been loved from the very beginning, how right it had been from the first moment.

Thoughts of the Russian male had always brought with them a stirring of feelings. It had taken time for the to grow into something that Anann was able to understand. In his absense those thoughts had lost the warmth they had once brought her. Instead making her realize just how alone she felt. A loneliness she had never known before. She would not even admit to herself how much she missed him. Instead, she combated the feeling by busying both body and mind. When she could.

Anann's mind had come up with endless answers as to why he had left and what kept him from coming back. She at least wanted an explanation, even if it wasn't what she hoped to hear. She looked at the bronze dreamer at her soft touch. Her words reinforcing Anann's hope that the wait would be worth it in the end. If there was any truth at all in the feeling that he stirred in her chest, he was worth waiting for.

"I keep trying to tell myself that's all it is," a small smile spreading, though still lacking confidence. Things had moved slowly between the two of them. As they both seemed to struggle to understand their own emotions. There was no doubt though that she would continue to wait. She would not seek another to fill the void his absense had created. His presence could not be so easily replaced. She did not like the idea, but she knew her life would go on, even without him if that was the way it was to be.

end soon?

Such a place in life was not an easy one. to be between knowing and not, to be lost in the beginnings of love and unsure if it was what was right or not. To be unsure if this was real or a figment of the imagination, lost to the feelings and yet unable to express them or even decipher them. Mati could easily be brought back to those moments, the memories would forever be engraved in her mind. It was not that she faltered in her feelings for Cambi these days, but those emotions had been so true and strong that they were easily remembered. The unknown and the pain that followed was the worst, and Mati felt as if she could see such a hurt on the Cours fey's face.

But her words did not hold a negative tone and she smiled at the bronze female, though there was little to shine through and speak of confidence. Mati gave a small squeeze of understanding before she retracted her hand from the other's arm and moved around the studio slowly. Its okay to have to repeat the truth again and again. She said with a brighter voice then before. There was no reason for her to think otherwise, and the Church female was optimistic only when she knew that something was going to work out well. I will bring you the finished painting, it should not take too long. Mati said, but then quickly added Or so I hope. She never knew what would happen between now and what was considered not too long

"Affirmation," Anann added. Her grin gaining a little more strength. It was easy enough to get caught up in the negative. The golden fem found comfort in the fact that Mati seemed to easily relate. "All good things are worth waiting for. I'm sure Cambria can attest to that." The bronze woman had certainly strengthened Anann's belief that everything would work out eventually. If she was patient enough.

"I'll look forward to it, but do take all the time you need." Feeling sure that artistic talent was not something to be rushed. Anann had only finished her part of the trade so quickly because she had needed the task to busy her hands and her mind. Given time she would eventually adjust to this slower lifestyle. At least maybe when there was no turmoil in her life. When there is, however, she will always look for distraction. "Well, it was great to see you today, Mati, but I think I'm gonna get headed home." Anann made her way towards the door to Mati's room. "And thank you." She added, giving the dreamer a warm smile.
