Sorry for the wait. :<

Element nodded to the simple instructions. He had always absorbed information quickly, and Keychain's description seemed apt and simple enough. He looked down at the little squares and marked an 'O' on top of the 'X' that Key had made. He thought this was a nice enough game - he looked over to Keychain, who seemed to be slightly tired. Under her eyes were dark circles; although Keychain was almost completely black, Element's sharp, green eyes could differentiate the black from the off-black that littered her body. He wondered why she was tired, and if it was simply from lack of sleep or another sort of stress - was living in a pack really as simple and easy as the wolves made it out to be?

Element didn't think so. Most times, the wolves spoke of their packs with a fierce and loyal love, as though they couldn't imagine being in any other place or doing any other thing. But he was sure there were some canines out there that didn't feel completely at home with their pack - how could there not be? It was almost a given. Element himself wouldn't feel at home immediately after joining a pack of what was mostly strangers. He was no stranger of wolf hierarchy; although he was obviously never in a pack, he's heard of the way newcomers were treated. Mostly they were handled with a polite welcoming, but the newcomers were the lowest of the back. The lowest of the low, even. They had to claw their way to a decent spot, being completely faithful to the pack as they did so. Element would never want that kind of life - he wanted to live for his own happiness.

This wasn't to say that Element was selfish - far from it. Element enjoyed helping others if he could find a way to do so. But he didn't understand why someone would want to put themselves in a position where they were looked down upon, only to work for others' happiness and none of their own. Element was a firm believer that the purpose of life was to be happy. And how could you be happy if your happiness came from being a servant to others?

Element looked at Keychain in doubt. Perhaps she was feeling the same doubts as he was about pack life - and she was actually part of a pack. Although he was sure they all supported each other, he was aware that pack life wasn't just cloudfluff and moonshine. It was a long road, a road that many creatures wouldn't be willing to walk. To Element, it seemed slightly pointless - wouldn't they all be happier if they were all equal in the pack? But then again, the canines had a different way of thinking of things - far different from Element's version. Perhaps Keychain had a similar way of thinking, and perhaps not. He would just have to wait and see.

WC: 108 - possibly the shortest post on 'souls? XDD Maybe so...sorry I'm lazy this week X3

Key smiled at the cat and marked a X in the bottom right corner. She was a little scared that she wouldn't beat the cat, since he was very smart. Probably a lot smarter than her, even though she was not the dumbest thing out there. She waited for Element's next move. Inhaling and exhaling normally, there was nothing bothering her at this moment. Keychain yawned quietly, but she wasn't tired. Far from it. It was just that she had only awoken, what, thirty minutes ago? She didn't want to think about it too long, and then she took her attention back to the tic tac toe game.

Sorry for the wait! Grah!

Element saw Keychain's move and marked an O in the top left corner of the tic tac toe board, blocking her way to a three in the row. He liked this new kind of game; instead of physically challenging, like many of the games he'd played as a kitten, it was mentally challenging. Element loved to play mind games; quizzes, puzzles, anything that exercised his mind and kept it as in shape as with the rest of himself. He sat his rump in the dust and stared out at the blue sky, noting with interest that this Inferni territory was less populated with trees and grass than any other territories he'd seen so far. It reminded him of a sort of vegetative desert; the land with no trees. The thought entertained him for a while.

He thought back to his birthplace; it was rather far from here, and he wondered what made him come here in the first place. If he never did, if he'd followed his siblings instead, would he ever have met Flower? He doubted it. His life, his own personality, would be incredibly different. Element wondered for a while if it was fate governing his ways, or simply the way things were. Did he really have free will? Or was everything he did and thought destined to be? Did he really know what was to happen? Did his subconscious know what it would do next? Or would the mysterious dilemma of fate stop his yearnings for the truth and submerge his life into a frenzy of uncertainty and recklessness?
