A beautiful summer day had settled upon the Crimson Dreams lands, probably one of the last few of the season. Summer was just passing its peak and the end would be swift to follow, autumn right on its heels. Through the recent warm summer days, Ehno had begun looking forward to the cooler temperatures of fall. The Marino preferred the happy medium between the two harshest of the seasons, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying truly beautiful days like today. The air held a comforting warmth and the sky above was the perfect combination of blue skies and idly floating white clouds here and there. It was perfect for the little outing he and Savina had planned for the day.

There had been a number of small, old boats to be found here and there in the pack lands. Perhaps each of them used once upon a time to float casually about in the lake or along the calmer parts of the coast line. When his sibling brought up the possibility of taking one of the old boats out themselves, Ehno was filled with that old adventurous excitement once again. The Italian man hadn’t gone out to sea since he had arrived in Nova Scotia two years ago (had it really been that long? Time surely was swift). While the little adventure the Marino’s were to set out on today would be on a much smaller scale that his previous sea-faring journey, he was confident that he would enjoy it just as much. It felt like it had been so long since the two siblings had spent time together, just the two of them.

Ehno had spent some time within the last few days readying their boat for the water. It was a task he had attempted once during his stay on Santander’s docks, but he had been met with little success due to his lack of general wood-working skills at the time. Now the Marino’s various projects in his little workshop served to guide him through it this time. If wasn’t long before he had the boat all patched up and had smoothed out its time-roughed edges. They had managed to bring the boat to the calm shores of Riunione Beach today, and Ehno smiled with satisfaction as the boat slid easily into the water. Amber gaze drifted over it for one last inspection, and satisfied, he turned to his sister and waved her over. “Ladies first,” he said, holding the boat steady so she could easily step inside.

sounds good to me! Smile 300+

Savina didn't mind the summer, even if at times her dark coat made her a little uncomfortably warm. She much preferred to be too warm than to be too cold, and even after spending two winters in Nova Scotia she had not gotten accustomed to the frigid lows that the temperature dropped to here in the winter. Knowing that soon enough the weather would be making that turn, she wanted to spend as much time out in the warmth as she could manage. She was so thrilled to have such a beautiful day to spend some one-on-one time with her brother. They hadn't had the chance to spend much time together since getting over their rough patch, and now that those hurts were healed she was eager to reconnect. The Marino woman had wanted them to do something special, and taking a boat out on the water seemed the perfect idea to her. Her first sea voyage had been anything but pleasant, but this would only be a small trip on a much smaller vessel, so she hoped that she would find some enjoyment in it.

Ehno had managed to fix up one of the old boats on their lands and today they had taken it down to the beach to try it out. Even though she was a little nervous about it, she thought that taking it out on the ocean sounded much more fun then just floating it around on the lake and was happy that her brother had taken to the idea as well. Ehno had always had the more adventurous spirit, and when around him she couldn't help but to get a little infected with it. Though she didn't worry about him leaving so much anymore, taking small adventures like these would help to keep his wandering spirit placated she thought. Savina wanted her brother near, but she also wanted to make sure he was happy. He slid the boat into the water and seeming satisfied with it, beckoned her over. Her stomach did a bit of a flip as she walked over and clumsily crawled her way onto the floating vessel. The feeling of floating on the water brought back distinct memories of her voyage over from Italy. "Wow, it's so weird to be on a boat again, especially one so much smaller." It was a little intimidating, but she did like being able to see what was going on around her in the water.

Ehno grinned as his sibling stumbled her way into the boat, holding the side of the small, wooden vessel as it rocked in the shallows from her movement. Finally they had been able to set aside some time together. They could reconnect, have fun, and forget about all the responsibilities and tasks that awaited them when they returned. It would be nice to just forget about everything for a while and just enjoy each other's company, listen to the sounds of the sea and feel the gentle rocking of the boat.

"The smaller ones are much more fun," he commented. As exciting as the large vessels they'd crossed the ocean were, little sweet adventures on boats like this provided more variety. Everything could be seen by simply sitting and enjoying the view, and small rowboats like this couldn't be taken too far out to be surrounded by the monotonous view of sea on all sides. Ehno lifted one leg over the side of the boat and gently pushed it a little farther from the shore before stepping in completely. The boat rocked slightly with the sudden added weight, but it was quick to settle back into a gentle stillness. He settled himself into one of the little bench seats and reached down to grab the two oars he made when fixing up the boat, offering one to Savina. "Let's get this little guy out on the water, shall we?"

She had been eagerly awaiting today. Some distance had grown between her and Ehno after everything that happened those months ago and she wanted to stitch them back together. For a while after she had found out about what he had done with Naniko she hadn't been sure if they could ever go back to the way things had once been between them. She hadn't wanted it to ruin their relationship but it hadn't been an easy thing to cope with. Still, time more or less healed those wounds to her heart and she knew that they could move on past what had happened and work to get back to the place they had been before. Savina knew now that nothing would ever change the love she had for her brother. They were too closely connected to let anything pull them apart forever.

"This definitely seems like it will be more fun. Though considering the voyage I had before, it won't be too hard to be more enjoyable." Not only had she been stuck below decks alone the whole time, but then the ship had also been sunk in a strong storm and she had been washed out to sea. "I'm warning you though, if we see a single storm cloud, we're turning back immediately," she said jokingly. While her words were meant as a jest, there was a vein of truth running underneath. They both had too much to lose to risk themselves out on the water if a storm came up. Ehno pushed the boat out a little further before he climbed in himself. As the vessel rocked Savina gripped the sides tightly, but let her fingers relax as it settled again. Then she took the oar her brother handed to her. "Let's," she said with a smile. "Though you're going to have to show me how." She knew the oars were to paddle the water, but the specific technique for it wasn't something she was familiar with.

It seemed like forever since the two Marino siblings last spent time together, just themselves. Ehno would be foolish to pretend that that wasn't his fault; the issues with Naniko and the lengthy time he had spent away from home to raise his pups when they were small had created quite the rift between the previously close-knit siblings. While the problems between them had seemed to pass, there was still much Ehno had to deal with. Learning about Nani's disappearance had left a bad taste in his mouth, and he found worrisome thoughts often plaguing his mind now. He couldn't help but entertain the thought that she might have left the lands because she'd fallen back into her drug addiction, and it was for that very reason that he couldn't bring himself to share the news with Savina. He was certain that she would come to the same conclusion, and he didn't want to have to face the "I told you so" that would accompany it, unspoken or otherwise.

As much as the thoughts still worried him, he'd managed to push them aside for the day, looking forward to reconnecting with his sister. He grinned at their familiar playful banter. "Ah, but riding out the storms is the most fun!" he joked in turn, offering a fake frown before playfully sticking his tongue out at her. All joking aside, Ehno knew that it probably wouldn't do them any good to find themselves out on the water in this tiny boat when a storm hit. The Marino had a feeling the weather would hold onto this calmness for the day though, and his thoughts turned their focus on the simple and pleasant afternoon they would share together.

Ehno nodded as his sister requested that he show her how to use the oars, holding out the one he held in front of him to properly display how to hold it. "It's easiest to hold it this way," he said, before lifting it over his side of the boat. "It makes it easier to push it through the water." He dipped it into the water, demonstrating how to use it. "Like this." He straightened up and turned his focus back to Savina. "If you take care of that side, and I take care of this one, we should have a smooth and straight ride away from the shore." He smiled at the simplicity of it. Nothing at all like managing the large Spanish vessel, that was for sure.

She didn't really ever ask her brother about how things were with his children and their mother. Sometimes she felt bad, and guilty, for not inquiring after the welfare of her nieces and nephew, but it was one of the ways that she had learned to cope with the situation. It was not that she didn't care about the four children her brother had sired, not at all, she just still had a hard time accepting the fact of the other half of their parentage. Savina would never be able to forgive or forget what Naniko had done, and the farther away from the subject they stayed, the better. Besides, she trusted if anything of great importance came up that Ehno would share it with her. Part of her still wished that at least some of the kids would decide to come live with their other half of the family at some point, but that had not happened. It was hard to feel connected to them when she had only met them once.

Today was about them though, and not the problems that had driven a temporary wedge between them. Savina wanted to focus on happier subjects, and she was certain her brother did as well. There had been more than enough drama between them as of late, now they needed to enjoy the simple pleasures of life together. The Marino matron snorted at her sibling's retort. "Ride a few out alone in the belly of a ship and then you tell me if you think it's so fun," she responded, sticking out her own tongue at him for good measure. Gods, she had missed this. Joking around with him, teasing one another. It warmed her heart, to know that they hadn't lost this completely. Hopefully nothing would ever happen to drive them so far apart again.

Savina paid careful attention as Ehno explained how to row the boat with the oars to her. As he demonstrated how to hold the oar, she looked back at her own hands and adjusted her grip accordingly. Watching as he did an experimental stroke, she smiled. That didn't look too difficult at all. "Alright, I think I should be able to manage that. Let's get going!" she exclaimed. Gripping her oar carefully she dipped it over to her side of the small boat and began to row as her brother had instructed her, hoping she was doing it right.
