Hehe ^_^

The sand felt hot on his paws, but as soon as he really started to dig it got a little cooler. Gideon looked up at the big ball of fire in the sky, wondering. He always felt warmer when he was out in the sunlight, and the light came from that big ball. (This made sense to him because when the big ball went away, the light went away too). And it always seemed hotter outside when the big ball was unobstructed by clouds. Hm. He dug a little deeper, and the sand got even cooler. Cold! Was the sand this way because the big ball hadn't been able to touch it with its light and make it warm?

Gideon continued digging his hole as he thought, sand flying out everywhere behind him. He was concentrating hard on making something that would be big enough for him to sit down in; he'd been playing at the beach for most of the morning, but now it was getting a little too hot for him to want to continue playing. He got the hole to a big enough size and flopped down inside of it. The waves weren't too close to his hole yet, so he felt safe with laying down in it for a good nap.

Aww Gideon is so cute <3. WC: 563 {5 points}

Layla was just casually sitting at home sitting on the couch and reading through her herb books. She gazed outside her window and noticed that sun was shinning brightly and it was right about noon time from what she could see. Perhaps it was a good time to head out for a bit of lunch and maybe catch up n her reading outside. Layla figured that it would be good to hit the beach and then catch up on her reading. As Layla went and got her satchel from her room, she checked her closet. She had another outfit that she was dying to try on. She wanted to go there in lupus form so she figured she’d just pack the clothes if she decided to turn into her optime form. She grabbed the clothes off the hanger and folded them before placing them in her satchel. She smiled as she grabbed her satchel and headed downstairs to pack up her books. She packed them in nicely and she was ready to go.

After getting some cooking supplies and spices as well, she figured she’d be able to cook at the beach. She headed out to the backyard and grabbed a few things of wood and then returned to her kitchen to get some matches. She put them in her satchel and then headed out to her front yard. Now she was completely ready to go. She got down to the bottom of the stairs and swung the satchel around her neck. Seeing as it was a bit heavier than normal, perhaps it would be best to use her secui form so it didn’t feel too terrible as she carried it along. She shifted her body as her fur got thicker and her muscles got stronger. She was now in her some-what bulky secui form. She had the everything she needed and was finally ready to hit the beach.

As she wandered along the trail to the beach, she wondered if there would be any other wolves there who could share her company. She could try out her new cooking skills for whoever was there. She carried herself along until she made it to the shoreline. Boy did it sure look beautiful. Layla couldn’t wait to begin her little cookout on the beach. She used her massive body to jump onto a rock and set down her satchel. From what she could see the tide was lower so her stuff wasn’t going to get wet anytime soon. She gave her neck a rest before she gave the shore a gaze. Something caught her eye. She hopped off her rock and moved over towards it. To her surprise, it was a pile of sand. Another wolf was nearby, very near actually. She peered over the mound of sand and saw none other than Gideon. He was so cute curled up and napping. She had to admit, she admired Gideon and felt like he would be her own pup. She smirked and moved over to his front side, looking to his sleeping gaze. She positioned herself so that the sun would make her look like a shadow. A playful little trick never harmed anyone. She moved her fur so it stood up and made her look menicing. She lowered her head to his ear and whispered, her voice sounding raspy and dark. ”Wake up Gideon”

Aw! Layla is awesome tooo <3

He was having some sort of a dream; his whiskers twitched and legs spasmed every few moments as if he were trying to run. Occasionally his mouth opened and brow would furrow, lips opening to give a small guttural sound. Gideon felt safe in Dahlia, safe enough to sleep for a little while at any location inside the packlands. Conor did a real good job of protecting all of them, he felt. So away he dozed, mind a-whirling inside of his dreamworld.

The pup was awoken by the sounds of paws nearby. He blinked a few times and stretched his legs out as best he could within the cramped confines of his hole, looking sleepy around. Then a voice! The voice made him jump, ears going back, a half growl-half bark coming out of his mouth. He was so surprised! Gideon leaped out of the hole and backed up before he realized who it was, only having seen a shadowy outline against the brightness of the sunlight.

As soon as he realized who it was he seemed to become a different pup altogether, tail going down, ears returning to their normal position. "I...I didn't recognize yew, Miss Layla! You surprise-ed me! Whatchoo do that for huhhh?" He asked all at once. Gideon's tail began to wag slowly, sweeping the sand behind him. "Whatchoo doin' out here? You found a hole to sleep in too? Is cooler in da hole! You can use my sleeping-hole if you ever want to, I'll share it!"

Well Gideon is cuter lol. WC: 457 {3 points}

Layla stood and waited for the young pup to wake from his little dream. She snickered a bit as he jumped and moved back. It wasn’t long before her little trick was over and he realized who she was. She moved over to his side and couldn’t help but laugh.

"I...I didn't recognize yew, Miss Layla! You surprise-ed me! Whatchoo do that for huhhh?"

She laughed and nuzzled the little pup. ”Aww come on Gideon, I can’t have a little fun with you. I was just having some fun.” Layla was so happy to have Gideon in the pack. He was a cheerful little pup and brought joy to her every time she saw him (of course she’s only seen him twice though). She began to wish that Gideon was her own pup. She would care for him as if he were her own. This thought parked another question. Where was his real mother? He had seen him around with his Aunt Bris but never with his mother. She figured something must have happened to her. She didn’t want to bring any bad memories back to the young pup so she kept quiet about it. She moved her ears up and her orbs to the pup as he spoke again.

"Whatchoo doin' out here? You found a hole to sleep in too? Is cooler in da hole! You can use my sleeping-hole if you ever want to, I'll share it!"

The thought of a nap before eating was not such a bad idea after all. She licked Gideon and then nodded. ”I actually didn’t come here to take a nap. I came here to have a little cook out lunch on the beach, but a little nap before then sounds good.” She looked to the hole and then gently pushed Gideon with her tail. ”Stand back Gideon.” Once he was a good ways out of the way, she began to dig with her front paws. She looked behind her and saw nothing but sand flying into the air. She made it so that the hole was a bit deeper and wider so that it could fit both her and Gideon. She then remembered she still had her stuff sitting on the rock. She ran over to it and grabbed her satchel’s strap in her jaws. She then carried it over by Gideon and set it just outside the hole. She then looked to Gideon and smiled. She lowered herself into the hole and curled her legs under her body. She laid a bit on her side and then looked to the hole. She left a spot near her chest for Gideon. She waited until he was laying with her before she licked him gently again.

The sun seemed to make him feel really tired. He thought about running into the ocean to shock himself awake, knowing that the water would be nice and cool, but thought better of it when Layla started to dig. She was going to take a nap with him! His tail wagged even faster. He'd come up with a good idea, and he was really proud of that. Gideon answered her as she dug, nudging her back before she began. She could dig so much faster than he could; wow! "It was pretty fun. I'll hafta scare you back sometime, heheee"

She ran back to get her bag, and he looked at it curiously. What was in that bag, he wondered. She'd probably tell him later! Layla was down in the hole laying down by the time he was finished wondering what was in her bag, and she motioned for him to join her. It didn't take much convincing for the sleepy pup to agree, laying down in the cool sand next to his packmate. Her furry tummy was very comfortable to lay against! It didn't take him long to fall back into his dreamy state, small snores coming from the whelp every few moments.

Layla was happy to see that Gideon was as happy to be with her as she was to be with him. He was always a cheerful little thing and would enjoy is company any time of the day. Gideon was like family to her and would protect him and care for him in any way he could.

"It was pretty fun. I'll hafta scare you back sometime, heheee"

It was just like mother and child to her. She was willing to play along with the pup with the game she started. She smirked as she wagged her tail playfully. ”I’ll be looking forward to it Gideon” She watched as the pup moved down into the hole after her and curled up near her chest. Her smiled grew as he quickly fell asleep. She smiled as he went off into his dream land and Layla yawned quietly as well.

She looked back over to the sea as the waves came crashing down on the shore. She closed her eyes and then thought back to her years of puphood. She remembered her mothers gentle licks as she was curled up with her. She yipped happily before curling up as Gideon did. She opened her eyes and moved back to reality. She was a full grown wolf now. She moved her orbs down to the sleeping Gideon. She may not have been his real mother but she would love nothing more than to treat him as one. She leaned her head over and to his ear. She wasn’t sure what his mother sounded like bust she spoke sweetly and gently. ”I love you Gideon” She moved her head back down and onto the sand near Gideon’s head. She couldn’t help but smile wider as she closed her eyes once more. She wasn’t asleep yet but she soon would be.

He didn't hear the femael's motherly words as he dozed, falling into a deeper sleep than before. Gideon was awoken more gently this time by the sound of crashing waves and gulls overhead, and he stepped up out of the hole to stretch and yawn. He arched his back like a cat, front paws out in front of him, toes outstretched. Mmmm! He had really needed that nap.

The youngster turned to Layla, watching her sleep for a few moments. She had such long and bushy fur! He wondered how she survived in the sun. He had been told to keep cool by staying in the shade, that his coat was black and because of that factor he would be a lot hotter in the sun. She was a mix of colors, but her coat was much longer than his.

The pup nudged Layla with one paw, trying to get her to wake up. He didn't know how long he'd been asleep (It could have only been five minutes, who knows,) but he wanted her to wake up! She had mentioned a fire, and he was starting to feel really hungry...maybe they would catch something and then cook it! He was interested in hunting, definitely...and also very interested in fire. He'd have to get her to show him how to make a fire.

For the first few momemts Layla couldn’t even get herself to sleep. She wondered if the young pup even heard her or even thought it really was his mother. She moved her head back up and looked to the sky before she flicked her tail a bit. The sand on her side was building and it was beginning to itch a bit. She shook off the feeling and then looked back to the sleeping pup. She smiled and laid her head back down near the pup’s head. Soon after she yawned, she closed her eyes and fell asleep. As she slept, she dreamed of the future. There was a male standing there with her in his optime form as she held her pups in her arms. She looked down to them and she could have sworn one looked just like Gideon except with a little white on him. She smiled and nuzzled the pup as it began to push on her a bit.

She yawned and woke up to find little Gideon pushing on her and waking her up. So he was affecting her dreams a bit too huh? She actaully enjoyed that dream she was having. She followed the pup’s lead out of the hole and stretched out her limbs. She then shook her fur to get all of the sand off from under her belly. Being in her secui form she was a bit bulky but her fur surely was much more comfortable for the pup to lay with. She then turned to her back and looked inside. She figured now would be a good time for starting the meal, but there was one problem. She had no meat. She knew it would be tiring to try and hurt a bit of meat by herself. She then looked to Gideon and smirked. She figured while he was here she could show him how to hunt and help her catch some food.

She looked over to Gideon and montioned for him to come over to her with her tail. She began to head away from the beach and towards the forest. She figured this would be a bit fun. As she waited for Gideon to arrive, she looked around for a bit of prey. So far there was nothing around. Once she knew the pup was at her side, she turned to him and smiled. ”So Gideon, wanna help me catch a few things?” She then noticed some birds all close together and near them. She quietly lowered herself to the ground and looked to the birds. They were perfect and would make good practice for Gideon on hunting things that can easily fly away. She turned to him and whispered. ”Here we go Gideon. Birds are a bit harder to get because they can fly away. So if you wanna get them you’ve gotta be quick and quiet. Watch carefully.” Being in her secui form it was a bit hard to be silent but she managed to get in range of the birds. She then licked her lips and pounced at them. She managed to grab one on her first go. She kept it in her mouth and snapped down on it to kill it. She then came back to Gideon and smiled. As she licked the blood off her lips she looked around. Not too far away there were some smaller birds. She looked to the pup an led him a distance towards them. ”Why don’t you try now Gideon?” Layla sat down quietly and watched to see what the pup would do.

Gideon noticed her shaking the sand out of her fur and he followed her example, shaking his fur out too. The shaking took him a little off balance and made him a bit dizzy, and he side-stepped a few times before regaining his footing completely. The pup grinned at her after this, wondering if she had noticed his embarrassing display, but not really minding.

She asked him a question about helping her catch a few things, and he nodded enthusiastically. Of course he wanted to help! She had been so nice, taking a nice long nap with him..he'd help her with whatever she needed. Plus, she was his friends. Friends helped each other out too.

The pup crouched down and watched as she ran at the birds. She made all of it look so easy...he frowned, wondering if his attempt would be quite as successful. Soon enough it was his turn and the whelp tried to do the same thing that she had done, sneak up on the birds...but it didn't work out. The animals both saw and heard him coming, already on alert from Layla's attack, and flew off across the beach.

Easily defeated, the pup looked back to Layla. "Is dere anyfing else that we can eat? They know I was there" He said sadly. Maybe they could get something easier to eat...something that couldn't fly away from them. "Unless you want me to try again, 'cause I can try!"

Layla was glad to see that the young oup was eagar to go hunting with her. She figured the pup hadn’t learned how to hunt yet and teaching him how to early would give him a chance to practice and get better at his skills. She smiled and then looked to the bird she had in her mouth. She rushed back over to her stuff and gently laid down on a nearby rock so that no sand would get into where her teeth marks were. When she came back she noticed Gideon was taking a shot at it. She watched as the birds flew away and the little pup quickly gave up. Well this wouldn’t do. She wasn’t about to let Gideon give up so easily. She moved over to him and lowered her head down to his. She nuzzled him gently to acknowledge that he tried. She thn paused ashe spoke to her.

"Is dere anyfing else that we can eat? They know I was there"

Layla slowly lowered her rear to the pup’s side and thought for a moment. Was there really anything else around here besides birds? She went through the list of prey but none really lived around the ocean. She let out a small sigh and and shook her head. ”I’m sorry Gideon but I don’t think there’s really any other prey around besides birds…” She then moved her head and looked over to the beach. There were some seagulls and they didn’t seem bothered by the two wolves being there. She smirked at the idea of letting Gideon try and get them. She flicked her ears as she heard him continue.

"Unless you want me to try again, 'cause I can try!"

She smiled. She was glad to see that Gideon had the fighting spirit and was ready to get up and try again. She nodded and then slowly rose up onto all fours. She leaned her head down to his ear. ”Glad to see you’re in high spirits Gideon. Come on, follow me.” She began to lead him back down towards the ocean and then stopped at a distance. She held her paw out in front of the pup’s path to get him to pause with her. She looked to him and then looked ahead at the gulls. They still hadn’t begun to fly and weren’t even bothered by the wolves. She lowered herself to a crouching position and thus began her little lecture. ”Here’s the trick Gideon. See these birds are a bit easier to get. They’re not really bothered by us being here so it’ll be easier to get closer to them. Now, feel the sand under your feet. It’s soft so it’ll make any noise made by your feet seem silent. Now, take note of the position I’m in. Crouching is good because once you get in range, you use your back paws to launch yourself at your prey. Here, I’ll show you a bit.” She walked carefully and made sure to maintain her position. She only went a few steps ahead of her before she laid down in the sand. She looked back to the pup and nodded towards the birds. ”Try now Gideon. I’m sure you’ll be able to get one now. Aim for…” She looked amoung the birds and smirked. She made one of her claws come out and pointed towards a small one with it. ”Try and go for that one Gideon.” She then laid her paw back down in front of her and watched to see the pup’s next move.

They should catch a few fish XD or eat something from the tide pools maybe XDD

They went back toward the gulls. She wanted him to give it another try and he would do his best...but he was new at this! Gideon had tried to catch littler prey and had used techniques like that, but those prey animals hadn't seemed to be as smart as these gulls were. They were tricky little fellas! He just had to be smarter than them. The pup watched her example and focused, matching his movements to hers to practice. He tried to leap a little bit, using his back legs more than his front ones, and was surprised at how far he could get. And how high!

At her urging he crept slowly closer to the group, hiding behind a large seaweed-covered rock. He was so close to them...he could see everything that they were doing. One looked right at him, blinking its eye, but didn't fly away. he wondered if it wasn't really seeing him at all...if it had really bad eyesight. The male moved his head very slowly to look at the rock next to him, then down at his own paws. Aha! he was the same color as the rock, just about. Maybe his coat was helping him.

The youngster took a deep breath to try and rid himself of some nervousness, then dug his claws into the sand just a little bit. He was very near the bird that Layla had specified and he used his back legs to propel himself forward toward it, aiming to pin it with his paws. He stretched his paws out in front of him and watched as they covered the bird up before it could fly away.

He felt a little crunch and realized that he had broken some of its bones; he lifted up one paw after he landed, holding it with the other and looking at it. It squawked at him angrily, trying to flap its wings, as the other gulls took off into the skies. "I..I hurt it. I don't want to hurt it, I don't want to eat this one! I want to keep it. I think it hurt its wing..." He let up on the pressure a little bit and the bird flapped more; he could see that he had indeed broken its wing. "If it can't get away..I could keep it couldn't I? I want to keep it as my friend. Couldn't I do that, Layla? I can't eat him. I think I want to name him...hmmmm. Fred!"

Layla watched as the pup was practicing what she had shown him. So far he seemed good at it and would make a fine hunter one day. Even if he was just a pup now, it was good to learn these skills at a young age. Gideon was about the same age her father began to teach her how to hunt. Looking back on it now she was glad her father started her out that early. It was then when she recieved the feathers that she wears from her father. They were from the first two birds that she ever caught. it was a proud acomplishment for her and her father. It was what made her the hunt she is today. Her orbs moved from her daydream to the pup who was now working on stalking his prey. so far he was doing well and keeping her lesson in mind. It was wise of him to move along the rocks. Blending in with one's surroundings was an important aspect to catching prey. He was soon in enough range to attack and catch his first bird. The mistress waited in excitement as he leaped at the bird.

Gideon's next move surprised Layla a bit. He was able to grab a hold of the bird's wing and bite down on it. Shae was happy to see that the pup was able to catch something, but he then couldn't end it. She watched as the pup began to panic and complain about hurting the bird. The mistress wasn't surprised to see the pup acting this way. At his age, why would he want to harm an animal? Perhaps it was best to just let the bird go, but not until she got something. It was what Gideon asked her that shocked her a bit. He wanted the bird to be his pet. Was that even possible? Would the bird even allow itself to be near a wolf and be friends with it? Oh well, there's a first for everything; although, it was probably best to bring up the option of what he could do if he couldn't keep it. "Hmm maybe. I don't know if that'll be possible Gideon. Do you think your Aunt will let you keep a pet bird? She may not but I guess it wouldn't hurt to patch up his wing."

Seeing as the bird's wing was most likely broken, it wouldn't be too hard to catch it; although, seeing as she was in her secui form, she may harm the bird more just catching it. She quietly moved back over to her satchel so she could grab her clothes. Seeing as she had waited long enough, it was good for her to change into her optime form. A low growl passed through herlips as she heard her bones cracking as her muscular body shortened to her thin optime body. Her hair grew longer as she grew taller. The mistress was now in her optime form, but naked. She quickly searched through her satchel and grabbed her clothes. She quickly slipped into them before returning to Gideon and carefully picking up the bird. She held him until she got back to her bag. Layla sat down crossed legged so the when she set the bird down he wouldn't be able to run. Once that was done, she dragged her satchel over and grabbed the aloe ointment she carried around with her. She figured it would help to heal the bite marks in the bird's wing. Once that was done she patched it up with her bandages and smiled. "There you go Gideon. 'Fred' is all fixed."

Thank you again for the beautiful table ^_^

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

As the older wolf fixed Fred up, Gideon set about looking for something to use to keep the bird close. Maybe a piece of string, something that he could tie around one of its legs to keep it near him. It would be easy enough to find food for the bird; they just ate fish, right? Thanks to Layla, Reverent, and Bris, Gideon was becoming quite the fisherman...he could definitely feed this bird!

He came back with a long piece of string that he had found in a small pile of garbage farther up shore. Until the bird got used to him, he would have to keep it tied up so it wouldn't wander away. Or keep it in one of the rooms. The pup spat the string out in front of Layla, tail wagging. "Fred!! FREDDDD!! You're fixed up, Fred! Thank you Layla!" He said happily to the animal. It looked up at him with wide, unblinking eyes, obviously unsure of what was going on.

"Fred is my new friend, Layla. Like you're my friend!" His tail wagged. "I can go without supper this one time...just so I can keep my new friend. Maybe I should look for some things that he likes to eat...in those tide-pools! And maybe we'll find something for ourselves to eat in there too." He said.

Layla was glad to see that Gideon was contributing to helping the bird. While he was racing around looking for something, she carfully plucked off one of the bird's tail feathers. Seeing as the tail feathers were the longest, they were ferfect for an accessory, but not for her of course. As she noticed Gideon coming back, she slipped the feather into her satchel and awaited the pup's presence. He had found a string she could use to keep the bird near them. While she didn't exactly like the idea of holding animals against their will, this was the only option if she was going to monitor the bird's wing. She smiled as he thanked her and gave her the string. Carefully she tied the string onto the bird's leg and the other end onto one of the logs she had. Knowing the bird would be scared as to what was going on, she gently pet the bird's head and kept his wing out so the bones wouldn't be damaged anymore then they already had been.

Layla couldn't help but wag her tail in happiness as Gideon called her a friend. Friendships were easier to make in packs. Gideon was so caring to care for the bird so much. She nodded at his suggestion to getting the bird some fish, except he wouldn't have to go without food. She still had some with her and she wouldn't mind sharing. "That sounds like a good idea Gideon. Why don't you go fish for your new friend and I'll cook something for the two of us." Of course that something was the other bird she caught before. She took the remaining logs and laid them on top of a nearby rock, seeing as the sand was not going to keep the fire going. She stacked the wood and then used the matches she brought to start up the fire. While the fire was going, she began to pull the feathers off the other bird. She had her back turned to 'Fred' so he wouldn't have to see her tearing apart another bird. Once that was all done, she would set the meat aside and wait for Gideon. Her orbs peered up and over to the pup as she yelled out. "Oh Gideon, once you come back, I have a a little gift for you!"

He ran back toward the tide pools, looking down into them. There were tons of little creatures in there! Each one looked different, too...some looked kind of spiky, the type he didn't think he'd like to touch...but some looked smooth. Other creatures looked as if they were moving inside of seashells; they had legs that stuck out of the shell, moving them along beneath the water.

He could also see a few crabs, a creature he knew a lot about. He'd met many crabs before! Gideon put his paw into the water, watching to be sure that he didn't touch any of the spiky things, and flipped a crab up out of it. He crunched it with his foot, watching to be sure it wasn't moving, then went for a few of the small fish he could see inside of it.

He had a few snails, clams, crabs, and fish by the time Layla was finished plucking the bird and making the fire. He carried them over to her one by one in his mouth, depositing them next to her. Once he was finished with that the boy sat down, pulling off one of the crab's claws and offering it to Fred. "You think these foods will be good, Layla?" He asked. "And where did you learn to make a fire? I always wanted to learn that"

Layla watched as the pup moved back to the tide pools to get some food for his new friend. The mistress could tell that the bird was not all too excited about being around a bunch of wolves, but hey maybe it was alright with it. Layla was still going at the bird as she turned her head to peer over to Gideon. It seemed her and Reverent's fishing lessons were sinking in. He was already catching mush more than he did when she first met him. Perhaps he'd be a better fisher than hunter. Surely there were other wolves in the pack who could teach him more fishing and then he'd be perfect. Once she was done watching Gideon, she want back to the bird. She had to admit the feathers were a bit hard to get off. She would have to make bird a once a week meal seeing as it was hard to clean and just get to the meat.

Once she was done cleaning the creature, she noticed Gideon coming back with a lot of stuff. He had a variety of seafood, and all that was for the bird? Surely it was a bit too much from him but if it made Gideon happy then she was not one to argue. Th emistress looked around for something she could use for the bird to hold it over the fire. A couple of sticks would have been nice. She sighed a bit as she noticed Gideon taking interest in the fire she made. Was it odd for a pup to be amazed by fire? Actually no, Layla was the same way when she saw her parents making one. She was so young then that she had forgetten how to do it. It was actually thanks to Conor that she remembered and began to actually cook her food instead of eating it raw. Her smile reformed as she looked around for some sticked. "Oh it's not much really. Conor showed me how when he came over to visit. He cooked me some yummy meat." Obviously that was not the best thing to say to say in front of a living bird but it was just to tell him how she learned. She could tell he was eager to learn how to make a fire. She patted the pup's head and laughed a bit. "Maybe when you're a bit older and it's ok with your Aunt, I'll show you how to make a fire"

Now that Gideon was in good view, now was the time to give him her gift. "Gideon, could you do me a favor and turn around?" By that she meant turn so his back was to her. Carefully she pulled the feather out of her bag and moved it to where Gideon couldn't see it. The mistress took the hard end and took a bit of Gideon's fur. Carefully and painlessly she tied the feather in with his fur. She smiled and then moved away from him. "Alright Gideon, here you go. My gift to you."

What part of his fur did she put it in? :3

She explained that Conor had been the one to show her how to make a fire. Gideon thought that this was interesting; Conor sure did know a lot! He was glad to know that the leader of the pack was smart and had a lot of skills. And if he had shown Layla that, then it meant that Conor was a good teacher, too. He wagged his tail and nodded when Layla said that she would teach him sometime. They would have to ask his Aunt...hmm. He wondered what she would think of it!

She asked him to turn around and he did. He felt a tiny pull on his fur and fought the urge to turn around and see what she was doing. After a second she was done and told him so, and he tried to turn his head back to look at it. "What is it?" He asked.

Although Layla could see the willingness to learn in the pups eyes, she was not going to teach the pup how to make a fire until his aunt said it was alright. Fire is dangerous if not handled properly and she was not going to be the one to bring Gideon home hurt because he was messing with the fire. Only with Bris permission would she teach the little one the handle something this dangerous.

As the fire was still building up its flame, Layla was just trying in the last knot of his hair to the feather when she told him to turn around. She was sure the pup would like her gift, although he asked what it was. Was it not obvious to him? She moved the feather to where he could see it and smiled. ”Here, it's a feather that fell off 'Fred'. It symbolizes your first catch, even though it wasn't a kill. It'll also be a sigh of friendship. This way your bird friend here can tell which wolf you are.” The mistress thought it was a good idea to gift the pup for catching something and now she did. As she sat back from him to let his sort out his new gift, he mind wandered back to the time her father did this to her. All she was able to catch was a small bird, but her father gifted it to her anyways as making a big step in becoming an adult. She would have to be able to hunt on her own. The she wolf remembered how happy she felt after she got that gift from her father. She closed her eyes to take that moment to remember all the times she had with her father.

Layla was broken from her trance by the warmth of the growing fire on the rock. It was ready for cooking time. Layla then rose to her feet to wend over to her bag. She grabbed her and and was ready to cook the bird. She smiled and moved her orbs to Gideon's pile. ”Would you like me to cook something for you Gideon, or would you like to have some of the meat I have?”

Layla was such a good teacher and instructor. She would do really well someday when she had pups of her own. Gideon smiled brightly at her. She always kept him in such a good mood, even when the bad thoughts started to creep in on him. Gideon didn't like it when the bad thoughts came...he tried to ignore them...but sometimes it was hard to. He sometimes couldn't stop thinking about his mother and siblings and father. About how his mother had passed away, how he and his siblings had become separated.

"Can we cook everything?" He asked. He hadn't had much cooked food before, and wanted to know what these things would taste like. He played with the feather in his fur a little bit, letting it flutter in the breeze. "I really like this feather. And I'm glad that it'll keep Fred close to me." Gideon's tail wagged quickly behind him.

Gideon was a joy to be around and this time with him was no exception. Layla was glad to see how excited he was to receive the feather from her. He was in such a positive mood and made the mistress even happier. After seeing what Gideon was like, she couldn’t wait to have pups of her own and interact with them like this. Perhaps even her pups would be able to hang out around Gideon. The she wolf was sure that he and the pups would make wonderful friends. Perhaps there would even be some things that the pup could teach her children. He would definantly make a good fishing teacher.

When he asked if everything could be cooked, she smiled and nodded. ”Sure it can Gideon. I’ll even cook up some of the things you caught. Before she moved to her bag to get her cooking supplies, she reached out and grabbed the bird’s broken wing. So far it seemed to be doing well, but it would be a while before it was fully healed. The thing that puzzled Layla the most was how the bird even felt about all this. He was a wild animal and not exactly the best animal for a pet. Would he even follow Gideon or would he want to just fly away once he was set free? She was glad to see that having the feather was a good idea for the bird to tell which wolf was Gideon, but would he even stay around? All would be told when they finally let him free.

After checking the bird’s wing, she pulled her back close to her and got out all her cooking supplies. She grabbed her pan and spices. As she placed the meat and some of the things Gideon collect onto the pan, she tilted her head back to the black pup. ”Would you like me to add any spices? I got salt, pepper, and lemon pepper. Either of those strike your interest?” She spiced up the steak at least and waited on Gideon to see if he wanted any. Once everything was ready to go, she would hold the pan near the fire and watched their lunch cook nicely.
