p.

Deep blue eyes looked out into the trees that surrounded the Manor. There was nothing to be done here, and no with no one around the pup felt lonely and a bit lost. His mother had told him he could leave the sanctuary of the house’s porch and explore the pack’s land but he was reluctant to go off on his own. Sand and cream chin sat on the porch, between two dark tinged paws, and his ink dipped nose inhaled slowly and deeply. A heavy sigh huffed out of his nostrils, so roughly that he felt the itch to sneeze and he crinkled his snout and gave a high pitched a’choo. Alder shook his head, eyes wide with surprise and he looked around to see if anyone had been startled by his loud noise.

There was no one. The pup frowned, ears falling to his head and he placed his chin on now crossed front paws. No one wanted to play with him, it was the only conclusion that the quiet natured youth could come to and he didn’t blame them for making their conclusion. He wasn’t too fun, not liking to wrestle like his brothers or climb tree branches and play in the dirt. He liked to dig and romp around, but he knew that coming home with dirty paws would be frowned upon by his mother. Though she never yelled at them, he still wished to please her.

With a whine the pup rose and took the steps from the porch quickly, stopping when he got to Earthen ground and looking around once more. No one. Cobalt eyes looked up, then behind him. Still, no one. He waddled with a rolly polly belly and walked away from the large house into the out skirted trees that were planted just beyond the yard. Dark nose fell to the ground and he looked for his own adventure, a small one he concluded.

! Sorry about the delay! >.< Stupid Biology... Also, what are those cute little animals in your table? xD Sheep?

Element gazed from his spot in the tall grass to the large and surprisingly intact manor. Back in Halifax, most of the buildings' plaster and weak walls had been rotten to the core, vines and moss creeping about on their new home. This was not such a case. The building stood tall and proud, its red brick structure threatening to block out the sun. Element admired it from afar - recently, he'd become interested in human architecture. He'd found from reading the books in his new library home that they made them using their remarkable hands, hands that some of the canines around had. He wondered if they would replace the humans, with their intelligence and capability.

Suddenly, however, a high pitched sound abruptly jolted him from his thoughts. Whirling his head around, he tried to find the source of the noise. By now, he placed it under the 'sneeze' category - and from a small animal, at that. A rabbit? He didn't think they sneezed. And bird sneezes sounded more like a short huff, anyway. Perhaps it was someone else?

Element closed his eyes and opened his mouth, drawing scent from the air. There was definitely someone else here - a canine someone else, to be exact. All doubt was erased from his mind as he saw a small, round puppy wander up the steps to the manor and sniff about, as if he were looking for someone. Ah-ha. As the curious little pup wandered down the steps and into the thin layer of trees that dotted the yard, Element watched on. He wasn't too far from Element himself, now - in fact, the pup was snuffling his way towards him. Deciding to end the 'suspense', he rose from his perch in the tall grass and wandered up to the little wolf. Element knew by now that in Souls, if you didn't find canines everywhere, they would find you. It was best to make friends when they presented themselves. "Hello."

thats not a delay!! XD

Alder felt like there was something, something out there in the wilds beyond the front porch. It was something that Alder would normally just forget, hide the feeling and try to ignore it. But he was ready for a little adventure, feeling like he was fairly prepared to deal with all the dangerous things that might be linger around his home. The pup had walked these grounds almost everyday since he had opened his eyes. It was his home, and he had learned everything that might be a bit dangerous. Such as the geese, the white and orange accented birds were things that did not enjoy being talked to. They squawked and yelled and chased little wolves.

There was nothing else for him to worry about, and the scent that he hadn't known before did raise any red flags. It brought out the small bit of curiosity he owned and the large pawed pups sauntered through the grass with his nose low and snuffling. What was it? He wondered, tail high in the air and waving as his small brain worked. It wasn't until there was a voice that Alder came to an abrupt halt, eyes looking up. He cocked his up as far up as he would with a normal adult wolf, knowing well that it was not a puppy voice that he heard. There was no one there, and he blinked at the sky.

The masked pup lowered his gaze, seeing that there was someone else in front of him. A great bubble of excitement swelled withing him, and his tail wagged low behind him. It had pointed ears, little triangles that seemed thinner then any ears he had ever seen. His head was round, small and his entire pelt looked like one big sheet of black. Blacker then anything he had ever seen. Eyes of bright grass, brighter then the jade of his big brother. He had never seen one up close, but he knew this was a cat. And it spoke to him. He didn't know what to say, not sure what to do. His ears fell to his head, his body lowering to the ground. Blue eyes looked up, a smile on his face.

I'm Alder. He said, remembering what his mother had said about how simple meeting others could be if he just gave his name.

Alder's so cute! <3

At first, the puppy craned his head up - Element realized, amused, that he expected an older wolf from the sound of his voice. But as he realized that his new companion was actually his height, he lowered his eyes and excitement shone through them. Element smiled. This puppy obviously had never seen anything like a cat before - the sounds from the geese nearby told him that he had experienced other species, but he also knew from the wonder in the pup's eyes that he didn't know what a cat was. He reminded Element of Naryu. The two puppies, although from different Packs, certainly weren't very different at all.

"I'm Alder," the puppy spoke, and Element saw that Alder had bright blue eyes. The cat nodded courteously to the puppy. "I'm Element," he said. "It's nice to meet you." He raised his head and took a look around the surrounding areas. He had never been this far south before; he always lingered in the upper part of Souls, until now. He wondered what pack this was; the scent was like wildflowers and wood all mixed together. It was a pleasing smell, but not one that gave the black cat any clue as to what pack this was. If he didn't have a good sense of direction, he would have thought it was one he already visited. Dahlia de Mai, perhaps, by the two pups' similarities. He looked back to the puppy and decided to bring the topic to that of where they were;

"Is this Dahlia de Mai territory?" he asked. He was sure it wasn't; he was too far southeast for that. But perhaps the puppy would correct him - and if not, perhaps Element's directions really were more mixed up than he remembered.

Alder could hardly believe what was happening. It was the sort of thing he had dreamed about all his young life. The cat spoke to him, real words that he could understand, not just the meows and purrs that Alder knew that they said from stories. Kitties were something he wasn’t supposed to chase, as his mother had told him that geese were not to be chased either when he told her of the events that played out between him and the orange billed bird. He could chase bunnies, squirrels even though Alder would never ever consider chasing them. He wanted to get to know them, seeking their friendship. But none wished to be friendly, until now.

Element he thought. The first creature beyond the canine species that had finally given him his name. Blue eyes grew round and wide, pupils ink black and glistening with wonderment. The pup didn’t know what to say in response to the cat’s words, it was extremely nice to meet him as well but the pup could only wag his tail in response. His round puppish body was on the verge of shaking at the conversation that he was having with Element. He was even enjoying talking to Alder! The mask pup couldn’t imagine a better situation and it was up to him to make sure that he continued to do so.

He tried to think of something to say, something smart and interesting and that would make the cat want to talk to him. Should he talk about the weather? Or about blue birds, or that he had found a snail? As he debated on what topic to bring up Element asked a question. Alder shook his head, No sir, His smile faded at the blink of an eye, worried that the feline was looking for this Mai place and not for his home. es Crimson Dreams. This es where I lives. The masked boy spoke. He still wanted Element to stay and not simply disappear to go off and look for this other place. Wheres do you live? He asked as politely as he could.

I am so sorry for the delay! Dx School's been rough.

Element watched as the young puppy's sapphire eyes grew large and round, sparkled with wonder, as the ebony cat spoke to him in a friendly manner. He fondly remembered himself as a kitten - he, too, was amazed and in wonder at all the creatures in the world. He, too, loved to find new things and meet them, up close and personal. And he, too, wanted to know as much about the world as was possible. And now, looking at the pup's wide blue eyes and smile, he was reminded of those childish days with a warm feeling.

"No sir. Es Crimson Dreams. This es where I lives," the wolf puppy spoke with minute tones. His smile faded, and there seemed to be a slight worry in his bright blue eyes. What was he worried about? Was Dahlia de Mai a bad place in Crimson Dreams? He remembered that the Inferni and the Dahlia de Mai territories had a spat over something - he wasn't sure what, but he did know that a war between two such powerful and plentiful packs wouldn't be something pretty. And it would undoubtedly harbor hostile feelings for months, if not years. But his doubt cleared away - the pup couldn't be worried about something like that. He was too young to understand wars, to understand horror and death and all of that. No, perhaps he was just worried about something else.

"Where do you live?" The puppy's voice came again, and Element reflected on the question in amusement. A few months ago, he would have told him that he didn't live anywhere - he was a roamer. A wanderer. But now...now, it was different. He had found a home in the old human city, and that was where he intended to be. "I live in Halifax, in a library," the ebony cat said with his voice of silk. He nodded towards the manor. "Halifax has a bunch of buildings like that. A library," he said, "is like that. It's filled with hundreds of books of all different types." All different types - Element remembered stumbling upon a book by Robert Frost, the man who wrote about the world ending in fire and ice. He remembered discovering part of T.S. Eliot's 'The Wasteland' and reading about his interpretations of humanity and sanity itself. He remembered the nonfiction, historical books he'd read - he remembered it all. It was like he'd uncovered masses of knowledge, an entire world of things he could discover day after day. It was wonderful, and he was proud to call it home.

no worries!!

The Dreaming puppy was quiet as the black cat spoke. His mind was still buzzing with great excitement, but he had gained and learned much from his mother. She had showed him many times what it was like to sit and listen to other, to speak softly and with an even tone no matter the situation. Of course he was not a disciplined as she was, nor did his little puppy mind understand what it was to draw peace from the natural balanced world around him. But he was able to at least sit with his round rump planted and no longer wiggle around like a newly weaned whelp.

Element spoke, and his pointed ears stood straight and poised at they took in the words. Alder’s deep bright blue eyes looked at the grass greens that the cat held. He had not known a beast beyond his own kind that held eyes with such vivacity, and it was hard for the impressionable pup not to get lost in their striking hue and the bright intelligence that lived behind them. It was his words that the Petty Officer needed to hear, and when he answered Alder was please to hear that it he was not leaving to seek of the Mai place.

A library? Alder thought silently and thought of how his momma had explained that he and Oak and Cypress were to learn how to read once they were old enough. She had shown them books she had got for them, the one with pictures of frogs and goats and giraffes had been his favorite and he couldn’t wait to be able to read all about them. For now he needed to simply learn from his mother. You must likse books. Alder spoke up only after the feline was done. His tail still waved behind him, and his eyes wandered around the cat ever once in a while as if he feared that he would forget this moment so how or that Element would scurry away at any moment. I’ms going to learn to read. The pup spoke brightly, Soon He added, nodding his head and looking a bit worried that Element wouldn’t wish to speak with him because he didn’t know already.

"You must like books," Alder told Element, and Element gave him an endearing smile. To say that Element liked books was like saying trees liked to sway in the wind, or that fish liked to swim. They liked to do these things, of course, but it was more than that. To Element, it was more than a simple fact of 'he liked books'. But he was glad to see that the pup was observing him.

Element himself took a closer look at the pup. He looked innocent - the very being of a small and curious mind. That was good. He sat patiently while Element answered his questions, although Element thought this was more of a proper upbringing than a genuine calm in the puppy's mind. Alder seemed very polite - more than some puppies he could think of, Element thought with amusement. No, Alder was a very charming puppy - Element was very glad to see that there were such wolves in the world. It gave him a feeling of hope.

"I’ms going to learn to read. Soon."

"That's wonderful," spoke Element, the black cat meaning his words. "There are so many wonderful things in the world of books. You could learn a lot - and there are fun stories in there, too." He pondered for a second, then pulled an idea out of his mind. "Would you like me to tell you a story?"

Big Grin

Blue eyes blink from beyond the dark furred mask that lay across his face. He was taking in every little bit that the cat gave, each word, each feline smile, each twitch of a whisker. His short life had taught him that such moment in life were rare, for most species beyond his own would run away from his approach, and the pup was certain that he would never forget the meeting he was having with Element. The book reading cat was something rare, the young Dreamer knowing this but instinct, and he felt his chest swell slightly at the thought that he had chosen Alder for his newest acquaintance.

The encouraging words made his tail wag a little more fiercely. His eyes grew deep with wonderment, blue pools that soaked up ever little word that the cat spoke. He hadn’t thought about the fun stuff, and didn’t know much more then the big book of animals that his mother had showed him. She had told him stories, always did when they were fighting to find sleep, but then he always ended up fighting the heavy daze so that he could hear the end.

Alder nodded his head at Element’s question. He felt that he was beginning to shiver with excitement once more and tried not to wiggle in his seat.

Heh, this is the first story that came to mind. xD

Element thought, thinking of stories he'd read in the library that were appropriate for a small pup exploring the world. His mind wandered across several fairy-tales he'd read, but he didn't think they were very...realistic. They ended well enough, but he could tell this puppy hungered for something more, something to satisfy his young curiosity. Something more than the fake, happy endings that the nursery rhymes gave.

His mind wandered to a particular story - a battle of good against evil. Sometimes the evil triumphed, but in the end...the good won. It wasn't black and white - it wasn't innocent. But it wasn't an evil tale, either, and it was one that gave him hope of this new world, hope that strayed into his heart the very instant he'd read those lines he remembered from when he was a kitten -

All that is gold does not glitter,

All those who wander are not lost.

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring

Reforged shall be blade that was broken

And crownless again shall be king.

It wasn't until he'd uttered the very last word that he realized he'd recited the poem out loud. Giving a look to the puppy, Element decided to pass on a tale of the humans - a tale that had touched him in such a way that he couldn't go back. A tale that gave him hope and happiness, and one that he wished to give to this puppy so that he, too, could spread it. And perhaps he would read it himself one day.

"Let me tell you a story," Element said, "of adventure and danger, of friendship and loyalty, of treachery and the battle between good and evil." And then he launched into a tale - a tale of the adventures of Frodo and Sam and Aragorn and Gimli and Legolas, as they traveled across the lands to the darkness of Mordor to destroy the Ring. When he remembered the exact words of the author, he recited them - and when he didn't, he filled in with sentences he thought would be best. His tongue danced across his mouth, excitedly reliving the adventures of the hobbit and his friends. He told the sadness, the happiness, the adventure - he told the tale that he had been told as a kitten, so, so long ago.

its perfect!

The other stories that he was told had never started like this. The words wrapped so perfectly together, the pause of each line drawing him into the next. Alder looked on with wide wondering eyes, his tail swishing the in the grass with a mind of it's own.He couldn't have guess the sort of story that Element might choose for him, and as the lines heightened his curiosity they took him from a place he felt was close to his center. He spoke of lustless gold, deep roots and ashes but when he ended with a springing light and a new blade and a crowned king Alder felt his little heart racing and the fur on the back of his neck prickled.

He was silent, knowing that it was rude to interrupt. But he was wordless, breathless even as the feline jumped into the story and took Alder to a time and place far beyond the one in which he lived. He wasn't frightened at first, listening at the edge of his seat yes, but the place and time seemed to be a pleasant one. Such things changed, and the masked but began to learn that bravery was not such a thing always born to a beast, but given through trust and awoken by friendship. The timid pup flinched at some parts, and smiled at others, but he remained silent still, enthralled and enchanted.

As Element told the epic tale, he felt himself growing excited. He was repeating the words of a great human long dead, long gone, but yet still speaking through Element's mouth. And this pup was reliving every bit of it - the battles, the beautiful, wonderful shows of bravery, the strong, tightened bond of friendship, the power of love and the way staying together and staying strong could transform something so useless - so hopeless - into something full of wonder and awe and spirit. He told the tale of the Lord of the Rings, and it was through him that the story lived on long after humans themselves were gone.

When he had met Alder and began talking to him, it had been morning - the sun had just risen and had been crawling, like a snail, towards the top of the sky. Now, hours later, after the last words of the tale had sprung from Element's tongue, the sun was far past its beginning point, and Element guessed it would set in only three or four hours. He was surprised at how fast the time had passed - and then wasn't so surprised as he recalled the shortened, but still incredible, tale he had told. He remembered most of the words the great author had said, and that he hadn't, he replaced. But it was enough. Enough to relive the tale that had been told to him as a kitten, and enough to pass it on to this young puppy. He smiled at the young thing, a knowing smile that was passed on from one who knew to another.

"Time flies by fast," he said. "Did you like the story?"

The day melted away, passing so easily when normally Alder would watch the moment tick by with such a sense of awareness. Yes, he worried about many things and the passing of time was one of them. The growing lad had begun to understand that time was not endless, and that if he were to grow along with the rest of his litter and become a wolf to be proud of he needed to use ever moment the Sun provided. But not today. He let the story over take him and let the day float away and belong to someone and something else. He gave it to the characters Element shared with him, and with their bravery and unbreakable friendship they used it to show Alder that he was not alone in his hopes for being more then what he was and that the timid could still be heroes.

Alder wagged his tail as the cat’s voice drifted away at the end. He wanted to hear and know more, and wasn’t ready to let the character he now felt so close to slip away. The black feline questioned him, and the pup took a moment to realize that it had been directed towards him and not part of the epic narrative. Oh, yes. He said with a rapid and repetitive shake of his head. Thank you for telling it to me. His voice was still filled with excitement and true awe. He watched the cat, young mind still not realizing that it was quite late in the day and he should go bounding off in the search of his brothers and mother.

Thanks for RPing with me! <3 <3 Sorry I've been so slow...School's kicking my butt. xD

"Oh, yes. Thank you for telling it to me."

Element smiled to himself. It was clear that Alder had liked the story; the expression of awe on the puppy's face as well as the almost sad surprise that the story was over told Element that the story had made that much of impression on the young wolf. He hoped that the impression was more than just the wonder of the story, although that had been great in itself - but the story taught a lesson. It taught that you didn't need to be the leader of a pack, or the strongest person, or have the most things. It taught that it was your heart, and what was in it, that mattered in the end - that the heart of the good conquered that of the evil, which didn't even have one. That's what the story taught, and Element hoped that Alder remembered that.

But for now...Element looked out at the almost setting sun and looked back to Alder. Of course, the small puppy would have lost track of time during the entire story...so Element smiled at him. "I'm very glad you liked it," he said. "I liked it as a kitten, too." He looked out at the sun once more and then back at Alder. "But perhaps it's time to go back to your pack - you wouldn't want your mother to worry, and neither would I." He winked at the puppy - a secret, just between the two of them, of how they'd spent the day.

yayy! Thank you too!! I'll close this Smile

There were moments in his young life that were already too important for him to forget. Small notions or memories that would stay with him instead of being let go like the less important. Unknown to the pup this story that Element had told him was going to stick with him for the rest of his life. In an almost unfortunate way. For the bashful and timid pup would not know how to be as brave as the characters the feline has spoken about. But it would allow his to dream, and such a thing was more important then anything else.

As Element reminded him of his mother's wishes his pointed ears straightened and he gave a hurried nod, Yes, Sir. He replied in a hurried tone. Anu would be looking for him, the masked boy was certain of it and he didn't want his mother to worry. Thank you. He spoke slightly sheepishly one last time before turning tail and running towards the large house the pack shared with this new task in his mind. But the story crept back, playing at the fringes of his consciousness and as his puppy paws moved he couldn't help but think again of the black cat and his story.
