Two parents-to-be. This is gonna be a cute thread lol. Set at the stables.

She could feel them kicking! They moved! Ruri couldn't wait to show Heath. She'd woken up later than him, as always, for he was up at the crack of dawn to go to the stables. But she had to share this with him! This was just too cool. For the longest time she'd worried that the growing weight and size of her belly had been for naught, but they were okay! The pups were alive and kicking! That phrase really meant something! She was so excited that she'd almost left Soleil behind in her haste to get to the stables. However, she had calmed herself, somewhat, and now she and her cat were walking into the stables.

Soleil took his spot in rafters of the large stable building while Ruri searched for her mate. She could not smell him in the building, though she could recognize the distinct smell of Heath's horses Lumiere, Soucis, and her horse Stark. So, without hesitation she walked to the other side of the barn, closer to the pastures and called out, "Heath! Come here I've got something to show you!" Her nightingale's voice rang out sweetly over the grassy, horse-filled meadows surrounding the stables. Hopefully the Marshal would hear her excitement and come find her. She just had to let him feel their pups moving. At her call the little life-forms had stirred, seemingly in recognition of their mother's voice, sending Ruri into a giggling fit. This was just so exciting. All of the morning sickness, exhaustion and aching feet was worth it for this moment. Of course, Ruri was never one to complain, but it was foolish for her to deny that pregnancy was hard on her. The fact that something so amazing had happened today was one of the many good parts about being pregnant, though.

With her call finished, the lautari headed towards the pasture fence, near the entrance to the barn to give some attention to the large, pale beast that had just come trotting up at her call to greet her. She recognized Stark immediately as he came up to her. She had not ridden him with Heath since getting pregnant, but she had made sure to visit him often so that he did not miss her too much. Now, with one hand cradling her belly and one hand stroking Stark's velvety nose, Ruri awaited the love of her life, to let him get his first chance to touch his children, so to speak.

crazy heath-dad is crazy!

It felt like in an instant his life had changed, and yet the world still turned and the seasons still changed. And yet his small world would never be the same. Heath felt such worry and such excitement for the mother and the unborn that he was almost consumed by the duel feelings. But there was always something from the outside world that called to him, something that needed his attention as well. As much as he wanted to the Marshal could not put his responsibilities to the side and simply watch over the merle collie. Of course she would have tolerated his watching eyes for a mere moment before telling him to keep busy. They needed to wait, for waiting was all they could do at this point.

So the male had come to the stables early so that he could retreat to the cabin before dark and bring a meal with him for his hungry mate. Then he could dote over his beloved and talk to the little round belly, as they lay on the old couch together. He stood in the field, checking on a nameless sandy hued mare that had recently given birth to a bouncing colt. Both were fine, and Heath looked her over with a passing gaze and a soft hand. Lum would be giving birth in the next few months, but Heath would be an experienced father by then. It frightened him, to death actually, but he would have Ruri to help him with the pups and the rest of the pack as well. They would be beautiful and healthy and theirs. And they would love their parents where Heath hated his father.

A voice rang in his ears, calling him and making him turn his head quickly. In the distance he saw the lean silver figure, the bump on her stomach notched out of her silhouette oddly and yet beautifully. Though the tone of her voice did not alarm him, Heath frowned and his brow creased with concern. As fast as two paws could take him the male raced through the field. His breath was ragged, and he kept the worried thoughts from his mind. Heath startled the herd, making them turn and run from his path. The only ones that remained were Stark and Lumière.

What Ruri, what is it? He said to his blind mate before jumping the fence with one clambering leap. He huffed and panted and amber eyes looked her over as if he would spot the thing that ailed her.

lol Heath-dad is cute! ^_^

Soft, ivory hand continued to pet Stark as she waited for Heath. However, it did not take long before Ruri could hear Heath running towards her. Actually she heard the thundering sound of hooves as the herd scattered before the luperci running past them. He ran so fast that Ruri assumed he must have thought something was the matter. An amused giggle escaped her vocals as he finally reached the fence and asked her what she had calle him for. He hopped the fence before she got her answer out. "The pups are moving! I wanted you to feel them," she replied, turning her milky blue gaze towards her mate. Her hand patted her round belly as if to signal to him where to put his hand. The pups were still kicking, in fact they had barely stopped since she woke up. Ruri wondered if this would become a habitual thing for them. It wasn't all that uncomfortable, but occasionally she would feel what she could only guess was a puppy leg pressing against her insides that wasn't particularly enjoyable. However, the excitement over the fact that she could feel them moving far overruled the occasional discomfort.

She knew Heath would probably be really excited. When he had found out about the pregnancy he had been almost more excited than Ruri, if that was even possible. The idea of being parents excited them both, for it would be their chance to love children of their own, to be better than their own parents. Ruri never brought it up, but she knew that when her pups were born it would be her own personal triumph over her mother. She knew her mother would never know that she was even alive, but Ruri knew. Then their was Heath's history with his father. WIth a family of his own he would have pups that loved him, that he could love and raise like his own father hadn't. Such thoughts, however, were not on her mind. She was just too excited to let Heath feel their children moving that all other thoughts were pushed aside.

loL!!

If the coy hybrid hadn’t been covered in fur his skin would be seen as stark white with worry and concern. His paws hit the ground hard, and he straightened to take the closing step towards his mate. The male wanted to touch her stomach, to hold her incase she was to collapse. But he stood still, unsure how or where he should embrace her. Amber eyes looked at her face and he saw nothing that should make him suspect that something was wrong, she smiled and spoke easily news that was far from tragic.

His features softened, his worried frown turning at the corners. Her thin frame carried this litter, and there was strength there that Heath could not see until she told him such things as this. It amazed him, and he wondered how his own mother felt holding him and his siblings at this stage. He hoped there was just as much joy, but knew that there hadn’t been. They were lucky, to have found such love and happiness in their lives. Heath gave her complete credit for all the good in his life, especially now.

The male was speechless, and moved slowly to place his hand on her stomach. It was lined with the same soft fur that covered the rest of her body and yet there was something different here, like she had created a cushion for them. Gently he pressed his fingers through the fur and against the flesh and muscle and waited excitedly. At first it was faint, and he wondered if he had imagined it. But then, he felt the swift movement of a kicking leg and his hand flinched and he looked at her face. Jesus, their strong. He spoke with surprise. Again he put his hand on her tummy to feel them again.

I suck muchly. Sorry for the delay. School is running me ragged and my muse seems to be trying to take a vacation

She sensed Heath's initial worry when he had first arrived. His heavy breathing, and quick movements both told her that he was genuinely concerned for her. Perhaps she would have to be more careful to let him know that nothing was wrong next time she called him. She couldn't help but smile in amusement as he finally relaxed and placed his hand on her belly. Heath's touch was always something that soothed and comforted her, even when there was nothing wrong. He was her mate, lover, protector, her soulmate and his strong hands conveyed all of the feelings associated with those titles to her through the powerful sense of touch. She felt the pups begin to move again as soon as Heath had touched her, and her smile grew wider as one of their children finally kicked out its leg pressing against the hand of its father. Heath's exclamation at the surprising strength of the pups' movements made her laugh. She too had been surprised, for while occasionally the pup's kicks and stretches tickled her, more often than not it seem liked they were trying to play in her womb giving little regard to the fact that they were moving around inside someone or that some of their actions were not particularly enjoyable for their mother. The blind woman did her best to count even the occasional kick in the stomach as a joyful thing as it signaled that the pups were full of vitality just as she and Heath had hoped.

"They really are. I'm not sure why they picked today of all days to start being so active, but they hardly have stopped since I woke up. When I called you they seemed to jump inside me with excitement," she giggled, as she moved both her hands to her belly to rest atop Heath's hand. "I'm so happy, Heath! I felt so relieved when they started moving. I guess...I don't know...for some reason I kept worrying that they weren't going to make it. Granted, I knew they had been growing well enough," she paused and gave her bulging tummy a soft pat before continuing, but I was just worried that something might be wrong. Now I don't feel like I have to worry anymore." She had voiced her concerns, for she knew that Heath surely had concerns of his own. Beings first time parents brought with it numerous conflicting emotions: excitement and fear, excitement and fear being just two of them. First time parenthood would be a good learning experience for the both of them, and it would hopefully strengthen their relationship even more.

She was his world, and those that she held within her were his world as well. They did not take away from the woman’s place beside the sun as his point of orbit, but simply add to the life that she had created for him. It would all just get bigger, wider and filled with more love. But she was the one that brought him this, created such a place. He gave her the credit for all the joy that was about to come into the world. Heath could only try his best to be everything that they needed.

The moved against his softly pressing hand, and the male found that he didn’t want to let go. His need to cradle them was instinctive, instant and he didn’t think that it would ever end. He looked to her face as she laughed, and gave a smile so wide that he felt the pressure in his cheeks. She spoke, and Heath watched her face as she told the new exciting news. This new development brought great pride to the to-be father, and he couldn’t help but wonder how any male could give up their offspring. To miss out on this would have been the death of him, everything (even the small things) were like the moving of mountains. Changing his life, making it better with each soft puppy kick.

Nothing is going to go wrong. he assured her, his voice quiet and comforting. He needed to hear the words aloud himself just as much as she might. Heath’s smile grew tamed, though it didn’t fall to an even line completely. He knew that his worrying wouldn’t be over until the pups were likely grown and still he felt that his concern for them would never end. They are going to be perfect, and beautiful. He said, once again in the hopes of reassuring himself as well. I think they know who their father is. He spoke, his other hand touching her face as he felt the growing pups beneath her soft fur.

Her mate's fatherly pride with every move of his offspring made her giggle. It was just so sweet and wonderful to hear his excitement and know that he was so eager to be their father. He perfected her, made her complete. It would be his strength that would hold their family together most of all, of that she had no doubt. His daily encouragements over the course of her pregnancy had been more energizing than anything else, keeping her going despite how tiring it was to carry around all of this extra weight day in and day out. Oh, how she loved him.

His expressed hopes for their pups were music to her ears, saying what she already knew but was sometimes too worried to remember. His words made her laugh, and she could keep silent no longer, "Of course, they know you. You've talked to them almost as much as I have, and I've told them all about how great you are. I'm sure they are very excited to meet you," she replied, knowing that such speculations were somewhat silly, but she could not help but feel that they were true. It was obvious by the pups' excitement at every word, every touch that they knew their parents. Nature probably had it planned that way, starting the bonds between parents and offspring within the womb so that their family would be even stronger once the pups were born. Of that, Ruri had no doubt.

All this thinking about pregnancy and their little pups inside her womb, as well as their current surroundings brought another query to her mind. "By the way, darling, how is Lumiere doing? Is her pregnancy going alright?" she knew that Heath's beloved horse had been pregnant for much longer than she had, and it was only natural for the young collie mother to be curious about her fellow-mother-to-be's wellbeing.

Heath hadn’t done much in his life, at least that he thought was worthy of mention. It was the household that he had created with Ruri that was his prized achievement. The horses that he tended to and trained were not nearly as important. And though he had overcome the hardships his father had laid out for him since puphood there was still nothing as wonderful and amazing as the life he and Ruri had made together. To be a father himself was a dream, and likely the hardest task the male would ever have ahead of him.

Her words made his heart warm, and he watched her eyes as he cradled her face lovingly. Not as excited as I am to meet them. He returned with a soft voice. He couldn’t wait, to see their faces and to know what it was to touch them and to feel their new life in his arms. The challenge ahead was not seen as a hardship, but something exciting and slightly fear inducing.

Lumière? She is doing well. He questioned at first, surprised that she was even thinking of the mare and beyond her own pregnancy. As a male carrying young within ones self was a great mystery, and his own fixation on their litter made thinking beyond it quite the task. For her to do so easily was astonishing to him. But Ruri always pleasantly surprised him. The Marshal whistled softly for the mare, who was not far and had been watching her favorite canines. You can feel her’s too He spoke, taking the blind wolfs hand from her own stomach to feed it through the wooden fence to touch the round swelling that leaned against the planks.

The roan mare’s dark face lifted, and Heath scratched her stomach as she asked for it. The foal could be felt moving, more so then the two meek beings inside his mate.

The slate and ivory woman smiled as her mate cradled her face, expressing his own excitement to meet their children face to face. It wouldn't be long before he would be able to see them. She did not know precisely how long, but she could feel that it would be soon. Milky blue eyes closed for a moment as she leaned into her mate's touch, enjoying the simple feeling of his strong hand. He would be a great father to their pups, loving, understanding, nurturing. He would teach them so much, indeed in some ways more than she could ever teach them. She did not know for sure, but she hoped that both her children would be born with the full use of their eyes, something she had been denied at her birth. She did not regret her lack of vision, but she wanted so for her pups to be whole, without any infirmity in them when they were born. Heath would be in charge of teaching them things that required eyesight, such as the names of certain things that she could not identify without sight, like the sun and the clouds. She would be able to teach them how to use all of their other senses to the fullest and thus to experience their world to it's greatest extent.

When her mate replied to her inquiry about Lumiere, the collie woman was snapped back to reality, back from the depths of her imagination. Her smile broadened as her mate expressed the wellbeing of his pregnant steed. The luperci mother was glad to hear that her equine counterpart was going through pregnancy just fine. As the mare's approach answered her master's call, Ruri was eager indeed to feel the unborn foal within Lumiere's womb. She let Heath guide her delicate white hand to the horse's distended belly where she pressed her palm gently. The movement of the baby horse inside its mother was sudden, but powerful, much stronger than the movements of both of her pup's combined. "Goodness, and here I thought the pups were vigorous. I can't imagine what it would feel like if their kicks were as strong as that. It'd probably be a great deal more painful!" She laughed, in an almost nervous manner. She would never even think to complain about her pup's quickenings again. Lumiere seemed to have it far worse off than she ever would. Ruri did not dwell on the negatives of pregnancy much, and that was one more that she would never think of again.

The pregnancy felt like a whirlwind, it seemed like just days ago she had been telling him the news and it now felt like at any moment they could be coming into the world. For the mare things were much much longer. It was almost a full year until she would be giving birth. Though Heath did not know the exact date that she and Rem had mated, for he did not like to think about it, he could make a fair guess. But still he kept an open mind around the date, and watched her closer and closer each passing week. Anann helped as well, her experience was priceless.

They stood together, hands on the mare’s belly and Heath smiled as she spoke with surprise. The foal inside did have a powerful kick, and Heath had been nervous for the mare when he first saw her flinch from the discomfort. The Marshal had moved to her side quickly, his large hands placed on her belly and he had even jumped back at the feeling. But both mothers were strong, tolerant of their young and even glad to feel their movements. Heath loved it as well, and he spoke to reassure his mate. She hardly flinches. He paused, looking at the collie with a great sense of love in his eyes. His voice drifted from his lips, Both of you are amazing.

I suck so much for making you wait this long. My brain has just been dead with school lately. I've been preparing for the second year students of my program to leave next week. Basically, it will be the first time my fellow first years and me will be taking care of the zoo and it's animals on our own. Personally I have a mountain lion, a hyena, and a serval to take care of. Learning all of their various protocols has been taking up a lot of my time. My muse wasn't helping either. So sorry Alli-kins! I miss being able to post on Souls everyday. I feel like I'm not as involved as I should be.

The Dauphine was excited to hear that Lumiere took the kicks of her foal with a similar level of tolerance to herself. Heath's compliment made her blush, and turn away for a moment, milky blue eyes closed timidly. When they reopened they were vaguely focused towards her mate's face as she slowly reached both of her arms around her mate and hugged him, her belly forcing her to angle her back a bit forward so she could press her cheek to his. "I think you're the amazing one, taking care of both me and Lumiere. You're going to be a great daddy, Heath. I didn't think it was possible, but I've been falling in love with you more and more since we learned we were going to have pups," her nightingale's voice was quiet as she slowly released her embrace, her soft-white hands returning to her belly. The pups within moved again, actually tickling her instead of causing her discomfort. A brief giggle escaped her lips as she stroked her distended abdomen, as close as she could get to actually stroking her pups. They would be the greatest joy of her life since being mated to Heath.

that must be so exciting!! i know how you feel, work and life are keeping me crazy busy too and i feel the same disconnect. but, vacation will arrive and the busy season will pass and then everything will change all over again Smile

While he felt that his mate was the most contagious, her words spoke of his on strength. But Heath would never believe that what he could do would match her carrying is young. Or that just the fact that he could care for the mare would make him just as wonderful as folding a growing foal within him as Lumiere did. He slowly let his arms wrap themselves around her lithe form, taking in the small and yet moving energy that the friction of their fur brought him. He felt her words to be true, for he had falling in a deep sense of love for her since the moment they had begun this journey. He loved how she changed in order to carry their puppies, loved how she glowed and would love her even more as a mother. Its like starting a whole new life, Heath spoke, letting the idea sink into his own mind as he thought aloud. with them everything will change. It was not a dark and heavy notion, but something that Heath was excited about, and still in complete awe.
