Oceanside

The shattered coast carved a rocky path across the border, waves crashing against it with fervor and seeming distaste. Salty brine lingered in the air, a mist heavy over the oceanside, and the late afternoon sun turned what should have been blue water to an odd assortment of mottled green. Birds soared overhead, squawking as they dove and pulled the bodies of fish from the surface, but otherwise the air was silent.

A pair of oversized paws held firm to the rocks, the mottled brown pup leaning forward to stare down at the ocean. Ever since Vigilante had welcomed the orphaned pup into Cour des Miracles, he couldn't get enough of the vast ocean that lay alongside the coastline. It was a strange entity he had never seen before his time in the pack territory, something that fascinated him and make him anxious all the same. He would go down to the shattered coast and sit, watching the water for hours but rarely trying to get near it.

The amusement faded as the sun started to set below the horizon, a yawn pulling from the pup's muzzle as he clambered down from the rocks he used as a perch. The air had cooled down from the closeness of the water, causing a faint shiver to run down the spine of the young one. Yes, it was time to go 'home', where it was warmer and he didn't have to deal with the brine clinging to his fur. He shook himself as he started to wander back, half-tripping over his paws from the effort. He broke into a brisk, bouncy jog, crushing small plants and bugs beneath his paws in the process.

As he neared the homes of Cour des Miracles, his oversized paws tripped him, sending the young one sprawling in a red heap on the ground. 'Ouch...' he groaned, ears flattening against his skull. A sigh left his lips as he dragged himself back to his feet, tail limp, and swatted the ground in frustration.

WC: --- OOC: hope you don’t mind me joining in. Also your table's a bit hard to read at the end ; ;

Niro was grumbling to himself, he could not sleep, normally it would be his hurt paw but it was something else, something he was worrying about. His friend Amaranth was on his mind constantly. She’d been in emotional pain, as well as mental, he could tell, but as much he tried he wasn’t getting through. Not to mention he did had an annoyance on his back. The bird refused to leave the wolf’s side since he had been injured so even his late night strolls tended to have the bird on his back.

Niro didn’t know exactly where he was going this evening, he just wanted to move his legs from sitting all day, He hobbled through the grass. His back leg was still thickly bandaged, though his front one had only a few wrappings on it. He felt little to no pain from it now, though he had some bouts every once in a while. He noticed some movement in the distance and saw a young pup tripping over its own feet. He felt bad for the pup and moved over to him.

Hey there are you alright?

He asked, as he was within earshot, he’d never met this wolf before, and he wasn’t sure if he was a part of the pack, he looked him over though to make sure he wasn’t hurt, he didn’t want to ignore an injury if he could help it.

He grunted as he saw dirt fly from the ground, his paw leaving a shallow indent on the earth. He hated being clumsy, tripping over himself and sprawling out, looking so ungraceful. He was too young to understand the concept of grace, but he knew that he felt stupid when his paws sent him headfirst onto the ground. Kam heaved a sigh, slumping forward in a slow lope, stopping at the voice of a stranger.

He turned and frowned at the older wolf, gray with a ridge of black fur along his head and feathers sticking out of it. The pup had never seen him before, and the anxiety that had been present on meeting Vigilante returned as he faced this unknown wolf.

'Fine,' he replied, his voice tense. Warily, he stepped towards the male, sniffing at the air between them before sitting down carefully. 'Toes hurt.' It wasn't really a response so much as a basic statement, but it made him curl the toes on each oversized paw and grimaced. He didn't realize until that moment that his toes hurt after he tripped, or after walking along the Shattered Coast. As the flexed them, the joints popped a little.

His muzzle wrinkled at the sound, prompting him to stop and shake his head, turning his attention back to the stranger. Cautiously, he trotted over, still sniffing at the air. 'Hi.'

OOC: Sorry ti took me so long and it’s so short ; ;

Niro watched as the pup took his quick look at him, he was scared, something Niro would expect from a younger wolf, he gave him a reassuring smile though, feeling bad he had to be the witness of an embarrassing act.He looked slightly conscerned when the pup stated that his feet hurt, he wondered if they were from tripping over himself, he looked down calmly.

May I see them?

He asked a concerned air in his voice. He did hope that he didn’t have to bring the pup to Alaine, though he’d do it if he had to, then Marahute popped over his head to see who Niro was talking about, the golden eagle stared at the little pup, but made no motion that she was on defense, in fact this was the first time in so long that she was actually more interested in another wolf than defensive. She made a small noise, one he rarely heard, though he rarely heard her make any noise. He was happy that she wasn’t actually trying to make anything harder for him this time, but as he found out, it was very rare to see an eagle anywhere near a wolf, he may have been the first wolf to actually have one.

My name is Niro Takekuro, and this fine feather is Marahute, she won’t hurt you.

He said, introducing himself, and watched the pup to see if he too would make his own introductions.

His ears twitched, flopping to the side before straightening atop his head again. The stranger was causing him less anxiety each moment he stood there, as Kambujiya realized he wasn't a threat. Instead, he smelled familiar, like the lands around them; the pup assumed he was part of the Cour des Miracles after a moment of remember where he was. Though he was grateful for being brought there, he was still disoriented from the loss of his mother and siblings and found meeting new people to be difficult.

The male asked to see his toes after Kam had complained of them hurting and he warily reached out a forepaw, spreading his toes out to try and make seeing between them easier. "Hurt alot when I fall," he explained, his shoulders shrugging as he lowered the paw once more. The sight of the bird that popped up behind the male's head startled the pup, who shuffled backwards, creating a wall of dirt against his rear. His eyes widened, but the eagle didn't seem to pose a threat, making a noise instead of lunging towards Kambujiya.

Though it caused him to relax, he didn't let his guard down, even as introductions were made. The wolf was Niro, and the eagle was named Marahute; Kambujiya wondered why a bird would need a name, but didn't voice his curiosity. Instead, his tail thumped the ground lazily. "'m Kam. Live over dere," he stated, nose turning to the direction of Vigilante's home. He had tried not to leave the King's presence for long unless told to stay put, still uneasy around everyone else, even those who lived nearby.

WC: 341 OOC: Catching up slow and steady, hopefully next week won’t put me back too far I had not being able to reply right away >.<

A quick look revealed to Niro that the puppies toes were perfectly fine, just a little soft from walking on the rocks. In the back of Niro’s mind he told himself that they would toughen up when the boy got use to them. Niro’s did. He gave a satisfactory nod, and then felt a pang of sadness. The paws were too big for the boy, but Niro was sure he’d grow into them. He just didn’t know what to say to the boy about it. But Marahute’s presence once again marred an answer Niro would have to give. He felt bad as Kambu shuffled back.

There’s nothing to fear, she won’t hurt you. She’s actually very interested in meeting you.

The pup had reluctantly introduced himself and pointed out where he lived. Anyone in their right minds knew that place. So the pup was an orphan? Or just visiting? Niro wasn’t going to ask in fear that the puppy would take offense. He smiled at the thought. Vigil had taken in his mate’s children, one in particular that Niro enjoyed the company of, and now he was taking in someone he didn’t know. The thought made him think of Amaranth and what she thought about the whole thing. But he brought his mind back to the task on hand, meeting the new member.

It really is nice to meet you Kam, I live over in the Chien Hotel. Which is over there somewhere.

He said pointing his nose in the direction of the large building he lived in. it had been home to him since he’d come here and he was rather itchy to get out of there. He didn’t mind the company but he wanted a place of his own soon. He wanted to look like a wolf who could hold his own rather than living in a structure that was made to hold many. He wanted to build his home with his own hands.

So where are you headed to? I’d like to accompany you if you’d like it.

He picked himself out of the dirt mound he had made, slowly stepping forward again to sniff the air around Niro. He claimed Marahute was interested in meeting him, but Kambujiya was unsure. After all, it was a bird of prey, and he had only seen them from a distance. Reluctantly, he gave a nod to the bird before giving an introduction and pointing in the direction he lived.

Niro replied with his own home, something called the Chien Hotel, and motioned in the direction it sat. The pup turned his eyes toward it, but didn't really understand. There were more places around the Cour des Miracles? He hadn't taken time to explore as most pups might have, nervous about his new living arrangement. Curiosity sparked in his mind and he almost smiled. "Shen's a funny word." The french accent was difficult for him to reproduce, and the word came out horribly strangled rather than sounding how it should have.

He saw nothing wrong with it, though. To him, it was just another word and he said it as he heard it said. Shen, Chien. The differences would only be noticed when he was older.

The older male asked where he was going, and he turned back towards him. "Dunno. Home?" He hadn't thought that far. He knew he was going in the direction of home, but the destination was too far in the future for his mind to grasp. "You come wit me, yeah. Okay!" The anxiety was gone, quite suddenly, replaced with excitement as he bounded forward, tail wagging fiercely behind him.

WC: 303 OOC: wow finally got a 300+ word in lol

Niro couldn’t help but laugh at the sudden comment about the hotel’s name, not the way the pup had pronounced it, but the context it was in. He had in fact thought the name was rather funny as well. It was not a word Niro had ever been used to saying himself as he’d always lived with the English down south. Much of the world around him now had so many different languages it had… well still was, mind boggling.

You are quite right my young friend, it is a funny word.

He said, his laughter stopped now. He watched as the pup started moving, so home is where Kam was going? Well if the pup wanted to go there Niro was fine with it, though he doubted he’d go inside with the pup. That was when the little thing started getting all excited, Niro couldn’t help but grin at this, as he moved forward, Marahute felt that Niro didn’t need protecting from the pup and flew up into the sky where he knew she was more comfortable at that moment. He moved behind the tail wagging pup hoping he wouldn’t go to fast for the cripple. He still had to walk on three legs and one of which still was a bit sore. Niro couldn’t imagine the sight of him as he hobbled along after the puppy.

So do you remember where you use to live at all?

Niro asked curiously, not thinking that something must have happened to the pup that he was here in the miracles pack, and since he lived with vigil, then he must not have his parents with him. That sudden thought made Niro feel guilty for asking, hoping that the story wasn’t tragic for the puppy and he didn’t make too big of a mistake… again.

His ears twitched and quirked as a sense of pride welled up. Of course he was right! The thought made his tail swish from side to side rapidly. Anything resembling praise brought out a pleasant change in the young pup, turning him from the quiet and reserved youngling to a boisterous and affectionate child. As the laughter stopped, however, he turned to look at Niro; half of his mind had to make sure that the male was still following.

He was.

Satisfied that Niro was really going to accompany him, he turned back to his path with a bouncy gait. He didn't notice that the older male walked with an impairment, and as he grew impatient, Kam ran head and turned around, returning to Niro before repeating the action all over again. The question posed to him made him stop in his pawprints, ears shrinking against the top of his head.

"Yeah...we had'da warm dirty place," he explained, trying to recall the den that his mother had made for her litter. His brown eyes squinted, nose twitching as he thought. It hadn't been too long since he had been away from it, but his young mind had trouble with recollection. All the same, he shook his head and looked at his new friend. "I get'sa live here now. S'okay, but no momma."

The joy seemed to leak out of him, tail falling as he swiped a blade of grass that stood straight on the ground. The thoughts of his mother weighed heavy on his heart as he picked up a plodding pace towards his new home. "Where you live a'fores, Niro?"

Niro was happy the puppy took the praise well, he knew that meant a healthy mind, which he wasn’t worried about, but it was always a good sign. He followed in near silence until he asked his questions. He imagined what the pup was talking about. A warm dirty place? Could it have been a den? That was the best Niro could think of. Though Kam’s comment made Niro’s heart sink, he didn’t have a mother? Niro knew first hand what it was like to live without parents, though he’d had them for his first six months, he was able to learn how to hunt and fend for himself before they had been either killed or chased off. He’d not seen them since that day though. His heart twinged for the puppy. He didn’t seem too entirely sad though, Niro was sure that Vigil and Ayita were taking very good care of him. He couldn’t help but smile as the puppy pretty much showed Niro how slow he was going, though he was doing the best he could to hurry his tail up.

Oh I was born a very far ways away from here, it’s the southern lands, so far south that it never got cold and it never snowed. We didn’t like it there, there were bad wolves there, ones that had taken my parents as well. Me and my sister decided to come up here, and so we had a long boat ride up the shore to get to this wonderful place.

Niro said, he wanted to make it sould like a story but he was never any good at those, Orin had told him so and she was the expert on stories and books, he was just a falconer. He was enjoying the puppie’s company, remembering the first pup he’d met here, and that was so long ago. His heart warmed thinking about her, and the game they’d played together, though he doubted it would be the same with this pup he was interested in what he would turn out to be. what life held for the reddish pup in front of him.

Sorry for the wait. @.@

He grew tired of pacing back and forth very quickly and stopped a bit ahead of Niro to wait (and catch his breath). Curiously, he tilted his head to watch the older male, only then realizing that he seemed a bit at a disadvantage. Was something wrong with his leg? He wasn't sure, since he had never been faced with injury; it was as new as any of the sights around him at that moment.

The talk of homes made his mind turn away from the possibility of a wound on his new friend, ears perking up happily. "Long ways away?" The idea that there was anything other than the place he was now was astonishing, almost fantasical, but the notion of 'bad wolves' was distressing. Kambujiya glanced around uneasily, his ears falling back again. "Bad wofves? Why they bad?"

As he cast another glance over his shoulder, he inched closer to Niro, seeming fearful. If there were bad wolves around, maybe he shouldn't have wandered away from his new home. Perhaps he should have stayed where he would be safe instead of where they could get him. And if they took Niro's parents away, maybe they took his momma too. He slumped ever so slightly into the ground, forlorn.

"Mama go 'way. Big scary big thing make me 'n Army 'n Lissa 'n Mari go 'way too. Hurted Tholie." He cast a glance at the ground, the memory of the dead pup still fresh in his mind despite the time he spent away from his home. His brother and sisters had disappeared, though he was unsure where. Somewhere else, though. He didn't think they'd followed him.

Shaking his head, he looked back to Niro and then to the sky. "Where Marahute go?"

Niro was glad the pup had stopped to catch his breath he didn’t want him tired out too soon, though he was sure he could carry the little guy home, though his injury was bad, he was not too crippled to catch up quick enough. The question made Niro nod, he knew that puppies didn’t know much about time and distance, so he didn’t try to explain just how far it was.

The other wolves were bad because they hurt anyone else, they’ve hurt my sister, and me. They hurt my parents too. Bad wolves attack, good wolves defend.

He said, trying to make himself feel better for the blood he shed, though the pup didn’t know about it and Niro doubted he ever will either.

I’m sorry to hear about your family, I really am, but you’re safe here, we have a knight, he protects the borders so that no bad wolves can come here and hurt anyone.

He said, though he had faith in Haven, he wasn’t sure how just one man could keep out all the stray wolves but so far inside the borders have been quiet, the only problem he’d seen had involved im and Anatoily, but that was in many ways Niro’s own fault and he deserved the scars he had on his front arm and shoulder.the shoulder wound was not visible as his thick winter fur was coming in but his arm showed where he’d been bitten through the bandaging. Niro looked up at the sky where Marahute disappeared, thinking she was probably trying to attempt another hunt. He looked at Kam and smiled a little.

She got hungry I think. She’s probably going to try to hunt. Have you ever hunted before?

He asked, he wondered if the pup was the type that wanted to hunt, he’d be happy for it as they didn’t have as many hunters in the pack as he’d hoped, but this was only a pup he wanted to see what enthusiasm he had or if he’d understand just yet what it was. Some pups didn’t know until they could change, but others were sooner like him. He was taught by his father before he had been attacked, and Niro wasn’t a horrible hunter, he had prided in it himself, though he now had a reminder that too much pride meant punishment.

The pup listened to Niro as he scanned the skies, trying to understand the concept. Good wolves defend. Bad wolves hurt. His nose wrinkled; he was too young to understand morality, but he would remember that information as he aged and it would help shape his ideals of the people around him. The lands Niro was from weren't explained anymore, other than being classified as 'a long ways away'. Kambujiya accepted it, not interested in them so much as the bad wolves who had hurt Niro's sister and parents. His ears tucked back against the top of his head while his eyes came back down to study the gray male as he spoke.

He apologized for what happened to Kambujiya's own family, though the pup wasn't sure why. The mention of being safe there relieved him of his anxiety, and the knight piqued his interest. "Whassa knight, Niro?" He was quieter than he had been previously, the sadness that had enveloped the area wearing on his emotions. With cautious steps, glancing to land around them, he moved closer to Niro. The absence of the bird of prey made him uneasy; Marahute gave a sense of protection despite being so small.

Niro smiled just a bit at the pup, who smiled back and glanced around again. She got hungry, I think. She was hunting; did he want to hunt? Kambujiya hesitated before answering, unsure. No, he hadn't hunted before, but he knew his mother had. "I not go hunting. Momma does. She said we getsa go sometime, when we got bigger." In truth, he was curious of the process. He knew she had to go hunting a lot, and she came back with blood on her fur and an unmoving carcass of some animal. There was a lot of blood; it made Kambujiya wonder where it came from.

Niro could tell Kam was trying to understand, and it was good, because that meant he was listening. Niro smiled at the pup and wanted to see the poor orphan grow to be a fine wolf, which meant Niro would have to be less careless in his own actions, though he didn’t have his own role model to look up to, but that was no excuse. He also forgot that Kam didn’t have Niro’s sister either. He grew up with the stories of knights. He smiled hoping to explain well;

A knight is a hero, a good wolf who helps those who are helpless, they know how to use a sword, and fend off any bad wolves, they save those less fortunate than themselves and think about their pack before themselves. They are someone that is worth looking up to!

He said, though Haven wasn’t the shiney knights in the story books, he was pretty much telling the truth about what he thought Haven was. He’d been very chivalrous, he was kind, and he was stern, he knew that when Haven brok up the fight between him and Anatoliy. He smiled at the pup a good answer, he seemed interested in it enough.

Well maybe one of these days I’ll show you a thing or two about it. I’m the huntsman, though I haven’t been able to help I normally provide food for everyone who can’t provide for themselves.

He said, not to mention winter storage of food, though he was a hunter not a gardener, so any vegitables theyd’ eat was a source they would probably get somewhere else. He was proud of his profession, but as anyone could see it was also a dangerous one. Thought he was injured more out of his cockiness than the actual misreading of a hunt.

BIG apology for the severe and ugly shortness of this post. Definitely not in my best light.

The pup's ears perked, as much as they could, when Niro started to talk about the knights. Something out of faerytales, the Knight was a hero. Someone to look up to. Someone strong, who helped the helpless. The idea was so fantastic in the pup's mind, arousing a smile from him.

"Kam wanna be a knight! I gon' be a knight like the other knight! Gonna be a strong knight!" He bounced in excitement, tail wagging from side to side vigorously. It was a wonderful idea! He could be a knight, when he got bigger, he was sure! The excitement invigorated the pup, all fear of the 'bad wolves' disappearing.

Hunting was a good subject for him to cross into, especially with Niro. As he explained he was the huntsman, Kambujiya paused to listen in his joy over the hope to be a knight. "You gon' teach me be a hunter toos? I think dat gon' be fun!" He giggled at the idea, pacing back to Niro and rubbing his shoulder against the older man's good leg out of affection.

3 Points OOC: Kam is too adorable!!!

Niro saw the excitement light on Kam’s face and then his sudden call to be a knight. Niro smiled at that, thinking Haven might have an apprentice or smething soon enough. It was never too late to start training for something like that. But he knew little of being a knight. He was a hunter, and a little self defense that Anann had taught him, the rest was all instinct, fight to live. Nothing more than that.

Maybe you can be one, our knight, Haven, he may be able to teach you? You will know who he is when you meet him, trust me.

Niro had been a bit intimidated by the man when he fist met him, but he became more at home with the swordfighter as he learned more about him and got to know him better. He laughed a little when Kam said he would have fun hunting. Niro had fun hunting, but it wasn’t always very pretty, he wasn’t goint to tell Kam that quite yet, just smiled a bit.

I even taught my birds to hunt with me, well one of them, but he isn’t really happy with me right now.

He said, talking about the bird that Kam had not met. The one who he had neglected while he’d healed up. Marahute was still young and he hadn’t gotten the chance to teach her how to hunt, and track like he had with Tobias. He would soon enough though. He felt the rub and looked down from his small daydream to feel his heart melt for this little pup who was showing him affection. Something he hadn’t gotten since he’d seen his sister last… which had been not too long ago but still he missed it all the same. He smiled happily, glad that the puppy was feeling more at home with Niro.

He felt great, talking about such fantastical things like the Knight. Kambujiya was bubbling over with joy at the idea, and a new determination entered his mind as Lunenburg came into sight. He would be a Knight, even if no one wanted him to. It was every child's dream to be something in fairytales, even if it was unachievable. That was the beauty of being a child, something Kambujiya took full advantage of once given the chance. "Maybe you can be one. Our kniight, Haven, he may be able to teach you? You will know who he is when you meet him, trust me." Niro reassured the pup, creating a bigger smile on the rusty wolf's face. "Yah? Dat be nice! But..." His voice paused, uneasy, and he shifted from foot to foot. "What if I not get to meet him?"

The fear was a strange one, but the little wolf was firmly sure that he might never meet the Knight named Haven. He sniffled at the thought; it might ruin his chance to be a Knight for the pack. On the subject of hunting, the fear disappated quicker than snow on a warm tongue and he was all smiles once more. He was sure that he would love learning how to hunt from Niro, leaning against the older wolf's foreleg to itch his shoulder. "You gossa lotta birdies? Birds is scary." He shuddered slightly, looking around uneasily.

"Why you like havin' birdies, Niro?" As he asked the question, he twisted his head towards the Hunter, tilting it to the side and wagging his short tail behind him. The birds were just as strange as the unicorn Vigilante had shown him in the Lunenburg stables, but others seemed to like the horses because they could be ridden. Birds couldn't be ridden, could they? "Do you rides the birdies, Niro?" His eyes widened slightly at the question.

+3 ooc: :3 fun stuff!!

Niro could see the wonderment in the puppies eyes as he imagined, though Niro had not promised anything to the boy, he knew he had planted some kind of seed.

Oh I’m sure you will meet Haven, he’s everywhere, it took me a while since I’d been busy, but he’s always around somewhere.

SNiro said letting the boy know that the knight would definitely come around to seeing the boy. At the change of the subject though, Kam did perk up and though he was interested in hunting it seemed he wasn’t fond of the birds Niro kept, it was ok though, Niro wouldn’t push anything on anyone who didn’t want it, and Kam would never have to interact with the birds if he didn’t wish to.

I have only two right now but I hope to have more, they can be scary, especially wild ones, which you should never ever go near, but one of my birds, they don’t hurt others, because they are a part of the pack.

Niro explained hoping it ebbed the boys uneasiness, he could understand why a little pup could be scared, raptors were known to kill off any pups as competition for food, so it was a wild instinct of being afraid of the large birds. Kam’s next question made Niro have to think a little. They’d walked a few feet before Niro could give the little guy a good answer.

because, they are beautiful, they are free, they can fly the skies, and walk the lands, dive in the water. Birds are very great creatures, and I think they can have a bond with wolves as you can see with Marahute.

Niro wasn’t going to admit it but when he was a puppy he wanted to have wings and fly, he wanted to be a bird of the sky, the predator from above. Then he had to laugh, ride the birds? He couldn’t help it he shook his head,

No I’m afraid not, there aren’t any birds big enough for even a little wolf to ride, but I think that I would love them much more if I could.

The gears in the pup's mind worked over and over about how he could be a Knight like the other one, who was revealed to be named Haven. He would have to get older first, he was sure, but it would be great. He would get to go from being some lazy puppy to a Knight, to someone who protected other wolves from scary things in the pack territories. It would fun, he was sure of it! "I'm sure you will meet Haven. He's everywhere." Though it wasn't a promise, he certainly used the reassurance to back up his hopes and dreams.

Hunting provided a good way to distract Kam, the topic encompassing his entire train of thought when it came around. It seemed perfectly normal to him that Niro would be a huntsman; he wanted to be a huntsman too, taking that moment to use Niro as a role model. The only thing he found strange were the birds. He hadn't been raised with any animal other than his siblings, and they were all wolves. The horses had been strange, but they served purpose. The birds were just...strange.

So he asked the questions that were on his mind. Why did Niro have the birds? Did he ride them like the others rode horses? The first answer was, of course, unsettling. "They can be scary, especially wild ones, which you should never ever go near." It meant that the birds might be dangerous, and he suddenly wondered where Marahute had gone again, not because he wanted to see her, but because he was anxious that she might try to eat him. As Niro continued to talk about the beauty of the birds and their freedom, Kambujiya kept watching the skies. Untile Niro's laughter eased his nerves. "No, I'm afraid not. There aren't any birds big enough for even a little wolf to ride, but I think that I would love them much more if I could." Kam giggled at the image, still uneasy but offering a bright smile to the older male. "That'd look funny!"

+3 OOC: so cute, wanna wrap it up in a few more posts? ^^

Niro could see the little cogs working in the puppies mind as they walked in silence for a little while. Sometimes he wondered what went on in a puppies head, it seemed as though it was many years since he’d been one himself, though in fact he was only a bit over a year himself, but he still felt old, knowing he’d been through so much already.

Birds also have a great view, and if they are trained right, we don’t have to actually look for our food, the bird will find it for us, and all we have to do is hunt it down.

Niro said, nearly forgetting the main part of him actually owning the birds. They had their own work, like the horses, the had a part in the wolf’s life. They were sufficient hunters, though Tobias still hunted only for himself, Marahute had brought him a mouse once or twice, which Niro thought was good, and he wouldn’t have to train her as hard as he had to train his other bird.

It sure would look really funny, to sit on a bird, though I have heard there are birds far away from here, that are big enough for even me to sit on, but sadly they can only run.

He said thinking of the fabled ostrich that lived a continent away, to see something like that would have been a dream to Niro. To ride on one would have been something else all together.

Do you have a favorite animal? I know many love horses, and me with my birds, there are some who even like lizards.

He said in a whisper as though it was some kind of big secret, he wondered if the boy had ever thought about other animals other than wolves but he wasn’t sure if the boy was at that stage yet where he would care more about other things than his own little space. He did notice the pup had looked around after he mentioned to keep his distance to wild birds.

Marahute will not hunt you. She likes you as a esteemed colleague, and she won’t ever hurt anyone else.

He said hoping the assumption he made about Kam making sure that Niro’s bird didn’t attack him was right.
