OOC: This kind of sucks, but it for you <3

The weather was unusually mild for September. Some blessing from August had carried over. The air was beginning to get chilly, but it was still comfortable. The gray Whilom felt at peace for the time being. Everything she needed to do was finished for now, so she had no pressing business for now. It was nice to be able to sink into the feeling of relaxation for a little while. Her son, the precocious boy, was keeping his nose clean for the time being. And the girl under her care, Bindu, was slowly but surely taking a turn for better.

In her lupus form, she stretched out contentedly by the twin sparkling surfaces of Mirror Lakes. It was a nice change of pace from the ranch house, where she had been cooped up lately. She breathed the fresh air in, drawing it deep into her lungs. She appreciated the simple pleasure of being outdoors, only for the sake of being outdoors. She supposed she would have to hunt later, but she thought she would possibly try fishing for a change of pace. It was a good day.

No worries! Thanks for starting!

Two weeks; the door had been unlocked for two weeks.

The teen walked nervously and quickly through the thin forest. Her dark eyes were wide and twitched at the slightest sound. A bird or the wind were all very nice and calming when listened to from on the porch, but out here, in the wild, every noise was unexpected. Luckily, Bindu had a purpose. She did not know where she was, but Geneva's scent on the ground was reassuring enough to keep her healed paws in motion.

The young wolfdog almost regretted her decision to follow her caretaker's trail. She didn't remember her journey into 'Souls very well, but the scars told her that nature had not been forgiving. Ever since, Bindu had not been comfortable with the outdoors, preferring her room instead.

But something today made her feel confident enough to venture off of the porch and into the wilderness of Phoenix Valley. The hybrid followed the trail as best as she could, until she glanced up and saw two shimmering lakes on the horizon. A fear of water churned in the girl's belly, but she tried to ignore it and trotted towards the lakes. Geneva must be here.

Bindu saw Geneva before she smelled her. The older wolf was reclined on the shores of the lakes in her four-leg form, or, as Bindu liked to think of it, her 'dog form'. The teen's tail wagged. She was most comfortable with other canines when they had four legs instead of two. As she walked towards Geneva, the girl made a great skittering of leaves and twigs with her clumsy paws, clearly marking her approach. "Geneva," Bindu barked happily, tail wagging a little harder. She was glad to see her caretaker and was also proud that she was able to follow her scent.

The wolfdog pointed this out modestly, pausing when she was a few lengths away from Geneva. "I smelled you, I followed."

Bindu's recovery had not been an easy one. Her mind was fragmented and it was hard for her to trust. But slowly, Geneva had begun to build a bond with the confused wolfdog. She had found that the injured girl was generally inquisitive, something that would aid in her recovery and her eventual departure from Phoenix Valley. Geneva was definitely fond of the hybrid girl, but she knew that she wouldn't stay here as part of the pack. The wolfess had a feeling that her life would carry her elsewhere before she found her permanent home.

She turned her scarred face to regard Bindu, her tail also wagging slightly, brushing at the soft mosses and other flora that littered the shoreline of the twin lakes. She was impressed that Bindu had ventured out this far, but pleased. She no longer had to lock the door where the wolfdog stayed. She had been so unstable, and Geneva had feared for her child, Pripyat. She did not think that Bindu would intentionally harm the boy, but due to the nature of her instability, she had taken every precaution, both for Bindu's sake and Pripyat's.

"How are you feeling today?" she asked Bindu, glad to have her company. Productivity always left her feeling accomplished, but there was also something very rewarding about having constructive downtime. Bindu was recovering well, so she hoped that she continued in that direction.

A tentative smile crept across Bindu's face as Geneva asked her how she was doing. Her fur was carefully cleaned and growing to a natural length, and her paws were almost healed. The girl's big dark eyes weren't sunken into her head; they had a softer shape and had a new brightness to them. Bindu had gained weight rapidly. For once in months, the teen was starting to look her age. But more importantly, Bindu's emotions were settling. And she was thinking good thoughts today instead of bad ones.

There was a moment's hesitation before Bindu answered, "Good." She sat down gingerly on the grass, her red bandana swirling with white lines. Before long, the wolfdog's dark gaze flickered to the lakes. They were very beautiful, but the girl feared them. A watery death seemed to be the very worst kind of death. Bindu could only imagine what it would be like to suck in a great big breath of water-

She stopped herself mid-thought and inhaled slowly. Her eyes came to rest on Geneva again. "Fishes can breath water," she remarked casually, the small smile gone now. An image of small, dark arrows came to the hybrid's mind. She remembered something about fishes ... swimming with them in a cold and wet world. The girl looked curiously at the lakes again, wondering to herself what kind of fish lived there.

Finals + holiday excitement = losing track of time. MERRY XMAS BY THE WAY Big Grin

Bindu's vocabulary was improving, bit by bit. Daily, she seemed to add words to the sentences she spoke. Geneva did not think that she was learning the words from her or from the pack members around. She had to be regaining memory of them. Perhaps one day Bindu would be able to piece together exactly what had happened to her to make her so hurt. Until that day came, Geneva was content to watch her heal. And she did not know if she would ever be able to delve into that mystery; Bindu might not be comfortable sharing. It wasn't her secret to know or to tell, it was only her wish to see Bindu make her path in life however she could in a healthy manner.

"They do. Sometimes I wish I could." It was a little known fact, but when the weather was warm enough, the gray wolfess loved to take a dip in the water. And when she was alone, she loved to swim, sink beneath the water, and watch the world's fragmented rays of light from below the surface. It was such a change in perspective. "What do you want to do today?" Geneva was curious. Bindu was venturing out of the ranch slowly. Maybe she would want to see something or someone. It might aid in her recovery and stimulating her mind to remember new things if she was exposed to something different for a change. But Geneva would not push her. This had to be at her own pace.

No worries. I was pretty busy myself anyways. :3

The teen smiled wryly. She could not picture Geneva swimming and breathing like a fish, although the woman's fur was a pretty gray like shimmering, round scales. Did Geneva like to swim? Bindu had never thought about it, so she'd never asked, and now she was regretting it a little bit. It was weird to think of Geneva having fun when the girl only saw her doing ... motherly things. Definitely not fun.

Bindu thought carefully about the woman's question, her dark eyes glancing around for inspiration. The wolfdog wanted to be outside today, to take advantage of her sudden courage. It might not come back for days and days, and right now the forest looked green and full of sunshine.

While gazing towards a cluster of trees, she saw a twitch of movement in the shadows of the forest floor and was seized with excitement. "Can you help me to hunt forest prey?" she asked. There were hares in the desert, and Bindu knew how to catch them, but one glance at the forest told her that it hunting here was different than it was there.

The dog girl was also curious to see Geneva hunt. The hunt as Bindu knew it was a wild, instinctual thing, and, like swimming, she couldn't imagine Geneva doing it. It was a drastic change from the normal, kind-hearted wolfess that walked through the ranch house on graceful feet.

Big Grin

It was truly a relief to the gray scale lady to see Bindu coming out of her shell. When she had first found the hybrid wolfdog, she had been frightened that she was beyond fixing. But it was clear to her that all she needed was a bit of time and someone to care about her in order to heal. Time could do wonders, but Geneva was glad that Bindu was convalescing here anyway. She did not have it in her heart to leave a creature suffering so much out in the wilderness. She reflected on the day that she had come across Bindu. If she had resisted her offer for help, what would she have done? She cared very deeply for the girl now, and was almost certain she would have followed her and tried to convince her otherwise anyway.

Geneva rose fluidly, stretching her shoulders as she did so. She smiled at the wolfdog and turned to face the forest. She could not scent the creatures, and so her approach to hunting was different. Lime green eyes scanned the forest for tell tale shadows and traces of movement. She saw something out of the corner of her eye and shifted forward, stalking gracefully toward the forest. She looked over her shoulder at Bindu, gesturing that she should follow.

The gray lady did not hunt often with another. Usually, she would hunt alone and only catch small game. She did not hunt often; Jefferson provided plenty for their family. But she did find that she enjoyed to do so from time to time. The Whilom entered the forest as quietly as possible, predatory instinct coming to the fore and her senses on high alert.

The pair did not have long to wait. Geneva heard a rustling just off to the left. She moved deeper into the forest, conscious of the wolfdog hunting with her. Pausing for an instant to make sure that Bindu was behind or beside her, the wolfess let instinct take over and began the hunt.

The gray woman offered a sphinxlike smile and stretched her muscles out. Her watcher eyed her with orbs of black and deliberately did the same. Observation was the best teacher in the hunt, and with eyes as big as saucers, Bindu was a very talented observer and an even better imitator.

The wolfdog followed her elder eagerly, struggling to keep her feet quiet in the excitement as they entered the woods. She was already clumsy, and the many dry leaves scattered made walking quietly nearly impossible. Her dark red eyes glanced at Geneva, who was effortlessly -and silently- gliding through the shadows, gray fur twinkling in patches of light as if little stars were stuck in her pelt. Captivating grace could not be copied, but Bindu at least tried to be quiet.

The young lady didn't realize how well she was succeeding until a dry rustling echoed in her ears like gunfire; her eyes flew to the spot and discerned the noise as prey. Geneva was already on it, changing direction with Bindu in pursuit. In the struggle to soften her footsteps, the teen fell back a little but didn't give up on the chase. What were they hunting, anyway? Was it a rabbit? Probably not something as big as a deer, but she wasn't certain.

Bindu didn't have a preference when it came to prey. She would eat what was provided, whether it were a seal carcass or a black cat's squirrel. So many things were of greater concern, like the cold and scary strangers and flooding emotions; food didn't really seem as complicated. You just put something in your mouth, chew, swallow, and then you could run a little farther. But, in order to fuel her body, Bindu needed to hunt- and this was the problem, no matter how simple eating might be.
