Wheee! WC: 305 {3 points}

Melee wanted to be like her dad and try out some duties, even at such a young age. She would try and find the time she could to wander around the borders with her dad or anyone else in her family. Most of the time when she was around the borders, she would sniff around a bit before breaking out into her playtime. The pup couldn’t help herself. She wasn’t able to keep herself from not playing. She was still a pup and pups loved nothing more than some playtime. She had such a simple life but it was enough to please her and bring more joy and happiness in her life.

Melee woke up at home and smiled happily. She loved her family and her home, especially now that it was getting colder, but she felt that she still had her duties to attend to. She raced out of her home and towards the borders near the river. She did her usual thing of sniffing around to see if anyone was nearby. So far the pup didn’t catch scent of anything, which was good seeing as she didn’t know how to deal with strangers coming near the borders. The girl knew though that she would have to be brave and cautious. Perhaps if she was lucky she could find another pup wandering around to play with. She didn’t want to have just Range to play with.

Melee sat along the borders for a while before she decided to go and look for something to eat. She was getting hungry and she wanted to try and catch something. The pup sniffed around the area she was sitting in but didn’t catch the scent of any prey. She didn’t even know how to hunt, but she was determined to find something and try to catch it.

Wandering alone this time didn't seem as bad is it was last time.

This time she was older, tougher. The months that she had stayed with Geneva built up invaluable strength. Even so, Bindu thought grumpily, nothing could end the relentless cold except for four walls and a fireplace. The wolfdog trudged onward.

Bindu sniffed hesitantly at a skull-sized rock on the ground and decided that she had imagined the strange smell on it. She moved on, paws ambling clumsily in the cold.

There was no real plan in her mind but to head west, where she'd heard there were more wolf packs. Bindu had only ever known her desert home and Phoenix Valley, and wanderlust consumed her. During the weeks of recovery, the teen missed out on her childhood. Now she wanted to make up for it.

That odd smell jumped out at her again, this time on the brown skeleton of a bush. Bindu paused and took in a deep breath, but a flash of movement interrupted her thoughts. Her big black eyes darted up. There was a puppy standing nearby.

It was a chocolate color, small, and fluffy. Bindu was instantly reminded of Grace and her silly purple blanket. But this pup was not Grace. This was a stranger, the girl told herself. She called out, "Hello?" The puppy's mother was sure to be nearby, and Bindu didn't want any trouble. Better to be safe than sorry.
Where am I?

No problem <3 WC: 321 {3 points}

Melee spent a bit of her time wandering around looking for some prey but was coming up with nothing. She scanned her eyes around and finally caught sight of a hare bouncing around in the distance. It was looking for a meal just like she was, except now it was the prey and she was the hunter. The pup crouched down as her instincts were beginning to kick in. She was already stalking, but making quite a bit of noise. The rabbit was on alert and began to hop away. The girl began to dash after her meal as it began to run away. She would have been able to catch up to it if it weren’t for her small body and empty stomach. She stopped and panted as she watched the prey slip away. She whined from her hunger and went again to look for something easier to catch.

Melee paused when she heard someone calling from the borders. She turned around to see the female looking at her. She looked like a calico cat but bigger. She smiled and walked over to the stranger, curious about her. She didn’t look like she was from around Dahlia de Mai and she wanted to learn more about her. The pup stopped to the feet of the loner and wagged her tail playfully. ”Hiya!” She was so happy to meet someone who was older and not in her pack. She would now be able to get to know the area around her. The girl looked behind her, curious as to what had caught the wolf’s eyes. She didn’t see anything behind her and shrugged off the feeling.

Melee bounced about as she waited for the loner to turn her attention to her. She wanted to play now that someone was here. Judging from how she looked, she assumed that the female was not a threat to her or the pack. ”Who’s you?”

It's a Christmas miracle! Big Grin but in all honesty- sorry for the delay. :C

The teen stumbled backwards as the puppy bounded up to her, a little torrent of brown fluff and energy. It -she- squeaked a hello, but Bindu was at a loss for words. She had been taught by her mother not to talk to strangers, and with good reason, but apparently that ideal was not shared by the indigenous wolves.

The puppy asked for Bindu's name- for a second or two, her mind went blank and she just stared dumbly with big, black eyes. Strange puppies on strange lands did not do well to calm her nerves, which were running high from wandering alone. Food wasn't easy to come by in the cold, and the cold itself was turning out to be a major challenge. Bindu's fur was not meant for cold weather, and in a lupus form she could do very little to change it.

The wolfdog snapped back to reality and answered, "Bindu Epals." Out of habit, she shot back, "What's your name?"

As the seconds ticked by, Bindu became more and more genuinely curious as to who this pretty little thing was and why she was all alone- the hybrid couldn't smell another female -like a mother- nearby, although the smell of wolves was everywhere and she may have missed it.

Bindu remembered her own mother sometimes, but she tried not to. Her mother, of sheepdog descent, had become a harsh woman to control her herd of strays and defend them from neighboring hostiles- the red wolves- while raising a child single-handedly. In light of such circumstances, many wolves would consider her mother a hero, but Bindu's own memories of her were more often bad than good. She mostly remembered her mother as a tall, unsmiling figure, who was beautiful but heavily scarred.

Seeing the puppy all alone made the wolfdog wary of such a mother lurking around, but she told herself not to worry so much. Any mother of this friendly little thing couldn't possibly be a threat.

Melee was curious as to why the loner was backing away from her. Did she do something wrong or anything that would scare her away? There wasn’t anything she could think of. Was it perhaps her overly outgoing mood that had her taken back so much? The pup nodded and then backed away so that she would feel a bit more comfortable being near the Dahlia de Mai borders. Now that the moment calmed down a bit, she took a moment to look over the older female more. She had an interesting coloration to her body and they looked very nice. She loved how the white and brown looked along with her black hues along her back. She also liked how it looked like she had a black ring hanging around her neck. She was still confused as to why she was being so silent to her. The girl was happy to her the loner tell the pup her name, but then she went back to being silent. She smiled and wagged her tail as she sat up tail. ”I’m Melee Soul” She paused and then relaxed her posture a bit. She wanted to go over to the female and play with her, but she wanted to get to know her more so she could figure out the story of why she was so quiet. Perhaps she was a shy kind of wolf. She must not have met others who would be able to break her out of her shell so that she would be a bit more talkative. The brown pup looked back to the loner and stood up. She was eager to go back to finding her meal and wondered if she would help her out. She sure hoped so or she would have to go back hungry and beg her parents for some food.

Melee smiled as she turned her back to the loner and began to sniff the air once more. Still she wasn’t able to catch the scent of any prey nearby. The pup turned around to ask Bindu for help, but she was already around looking for something. Was it possible that she knew the pup was looking for food and she was helping her look now? That’s what she thought until she noticed that the loner wasn’t moving around with her much. Was she looking for something else? She looked around to try and see what the female was looking for. She wagged her tail and looked to her, cocking her head in confusion. ”What you looking for?” She would wait for her to answer before she began to look around again for some food. She finally caught onto something and began to wander along down the borders. She noticed a little rodent moving around. She crouched down and smiled before she licked her lips and began to chase after it. It wasn’t long before she tripped and lost sight of her prey. She shook her head and folded her ears down as she waited to see if it would come back, or if she would be able to find something else to chase. She was definantly not a good hunter.

Bindu was startled when the pup backed away a few steps, leaving more room to breathe, move, stare- almost as if it had read her mind and adjusted to ease her discomfort. It seemed that this pup was not only friendly, but polite. An uncertain smile crept onto her muzzle, and the nervous monster inside of her stomach started to melt. She started to like this brown pup with the strange eyes, the one who gave her more space and was smiley.

”I’m Melee Soul” spoke the tyke. The wolfdog nodded in acknowledgment, and the careful smile lingered. She remembered that Jefferson's second name was 'Soul' as well -maybe the two were related somehow. But she decided not to ask the child about it, because they were far away from Jefferson and the valley and therefore the subject was irrelevant.

Melee stood up started to sniff around, and Bindu watched absently. She was still trying to scent any other wolves in the area, though now it was more of a unconscious habit than because of urgent concern. If she hadn't shown up yet, Melee's mother probably wasn't looking for her cub. The teen let her mind wander until Melee spoke to her and the world snapped back into focus. "Hm? Oh- sorry, I'm just not very familiar with this territory," Bindu answered. "A little nervous, is all."

The 'calico' teen trotted after Melee, who was tracking something -and by the sudden disappointment on her face a few seconds later, Bindu could tell that the girl wasn't very happy with the result. Though she barely knew the puppy, Bindu was seized with the urge to help her out. "Are you hunting?- would you mind if I joined you?" the hybrid asked quietly, hoping that she would be able to catch the tyke -something-. Besides, the teen hadn't bothered to eat for a while now, and was growing hungry herself.

Melee was glad to see the smile form on Bindu’s face. So far she seemed to be nervous about something so it was nice to see that she was now relaxed and had a smile on her muzzle. The pup nodded back when the loner did, happy to see her in her better state. She could tell that her new friend was in a bit of thought but what about? All she did was tell her her name. She wondered if there was something about her name that caught the female’s attention. She had not known about the extention of her family name, so she didn’t know that there were other siblings to her as well as others that had the second part of her name. ”Whatcha thinking about?” The girl watched her new friend as she continued to sniff around the pack lands. She was still not sure of she was really just nervous about being here or if she was just looking around for someone in particular. She tried to shrug it off, but her curiousity kept being brought to the surface. She looked around to see if there was anyone around that might have been making her feel so nervous. She didn’t see anything and looked back to the calico teen. ”Thewe is no one awound. Why you still newvous?” She wagged her tail as she waited for her to answer.

Melee couldn’t help but feel disappointed as she failed to try and catch something. She wanted to learn how to hunt so that she could try and impress her dad by catching something all on her own. The only problem in her case was it was hard to run with her defect. She was beginning to hate her birth defect and wondered why she had to be the one that was born with it. She began to whine as she heard the loner coming behind her. She turned her head and folded her ears down to her skull in disappointment. She was sure her new friend could see she was upset about her failure to catch something. She pirked her ears up when Bindu offered to help her hunt. She smiled and wagged her tail once more. ”Weally? Would you weally help me catch something?” She began to sniff around for something they could try and catch, but she couldn’t smell anything. She gazed around with her multi colored eyes for anything that moved and she would be able to use for food. She would share her food with her new friend, but first they would have to find it and hunt it down.

The girl was startled by Melee's inquiry. Her mind was a tangled mess, like a spider's web after rain; the question, so simply put, overwhelmed her. Lots of things drifted below the surface of her mind, more than just the mural of scents draped over the land and air, more than the bright-eyed child bouncing along beside her. She blinked once and cleared her throat, but, thankfully, the chestnut-furred pup interrupted before she could spit out a word.

Melee's second question was easier to answer; nevertheless, Bindu had some trouble explaining herself. Where were the words that expressed her constant discomfort with everyone, everything? She was doomed to worry for the rest of her life; worry about the weather, about strange wolves, about new things and old things as well. A weary sigh escaped from a slightly parted jaw. The hybrid would never stop being nervous, but how could that be put into words for a pup to understand? "I'm not sure. Kind of silly, I guess- I just worry a lot," the teen confessed.

Melee seemed excited about catching some prey. Bindu grinned. "Of course," she nearly purred, her tail wagging happily. The company was refreshing, even if Melee was younger than her, and Bindu was eager to help.

Dark pools of night scanned the area carefully, trying to locate a twitch or piece of movement that would give away lunch. She tried to see everything, to move quickly for her little friend's sake, but fatigue clouded her black sight and made her steps sluggish. Regardless, when Bindu caught a promising whiff of rabbit, she was up and moving in an instant, glancing back to make sure that Melee was following.

Melee could not help but giggle at the answer she was given to her question. She sure did seem to worry a lot for someone who was much bigger than she was. She smiled and stood by here. ”Don’t wowwy. Thewe’s nothing you need to wowwy about. If anyone comes by then I’ll tell them that you’we my fwiend and I let you in.” She then turned back and was ready to go hunting. She wanted to be able to catch something before it got too dark out. She was sure that as long as Bindu stuck close to the pup then she would not get in trouble for being inside of the Dahlia de Mai pack territory. She was just happy to have some company around now.

Melee followed closely behind her new friend, watching her as she moved along, looking for something that they would be able to eat. She could not see anything in her vision, though she was much smaller so it was understandable. She just wanted to try and help her find something. It was quite clear that she would not be able to chase the prey and keep up with it. She kept tripping all the time which was enough for her food to get away. She wondered if Bindu saw anything yet. The pup stuck her nose into the air to see if she could try and smell something. She was not the greatest tracker so she could not really smell anything either. Her ears folded down as she felt like a failure of a hunter. She just wanted to be able to hunt like any normal wolf. The girl stopped when she looked ahead to see a rabbit just sitting there ignoring them. She nudged the loner and pointed over to the rabbit with her paw. ”Look! There’s something over there we can eat!” She got quiet and then lowered herself to the group. She did not want to attract any attention to themselves. It was now up to the calico if she would be able to catch it.

I <3 your writing style. Melee is adorable.

Melee made up for what Bindu lacked in her exhaustion, piping up to point out a rabbit. Dark eyes fumbled for a second but located it, sitting serenely, like a little statue in the coldness. The girl almost laughed to herself. She didn't understand how this prey, so small and weak, could sit in the open when there were bushes and other forms of cover all around it- but she was grateful. Though she wouldn't admit it to Melee, the teen was not a very good huntress and probably couldn't have found -nonetheless catch- any food in thicker parts of the forest.

Her senses turned sharp like a knife; her slim figure pressed against the frozen ground, poised for the hunt. Making no sound, the girl closed the gap between hunter and prey, every muscle intent on success. An ear twitched. It was almost too easy. Before the rabbit had a chance to leap away, Bindu plucked it off of the ground and ended its life in a mercifully quick squeeze. She felt a little dizzy- probably because of fatigue- but she straightened up and deliberately walked back to where Melee was huddled, rabbit in her jaws.

Melee's aid in the hunt made Bindu look down at her with admiration in her doe eyes. The child's acute senses were humbling, because the girl knew that on her own she simply wouldn't have detected the bunny. It was Melee's keen awareness that killed the prey; the pup, though little, deserved it the most. Bindu's jaws parted in the slightest and a bundle of warm fur dropped to the ground at the little one's paws. Dots of red were beginning to stain its gray-and-white pelt. "Go ahead," she urged with a smile, and sat down to rest in the bitter cold.

Melee smiled as she watched Bindu’s hunting skills in action. She knew the loner was much better than her and would actually be able to catch something. She folded her ears down as she watched. She feared she would never be of any use to the pack because she was a terrible hunter. With her bad paw she was sure she was going to do nothing but stumble every single time she tried. She was sure that once she was older, her brother would not even bring her along because she would not be able to hunt right. She closed her eyes and shook her head, trying to get rid of the idea. She knew her brother. There was no way he would treat her like that, or at least she believed that. The pup opened her eyes and watched her new friend successfully catch the prey. She jumped with excitement.

Melee bounced around happily as the loner came back and brought the rabbit to her. She couldn’t believe that this female actually helped her. She looked down to the rabbit in between her paws and began to gnaw at it. The meat tasted so good that she could barely stop to even talk to her new friend. She looked up to her in between bites and then looked back to her meal. She couldn’t just keep all of this for herself. She pushed the rest of the rabbit towards Bindu. The girl did not care if the food was from her pack lands. She just wanted to make sure that her friend was just as well filled as she was. She smiled as she sat back down and waited for the loner to try some of the prey they caught together. She was sure her pack members would not mind.

The wolfdog politely averted her gaze as the pup began to eat her catch, a quietly delighted smile on her gaunt face. For once in months, she felt like she'd accomplished something, made a difference, rather than being cared for and a nuisance. Dark pools of night focused on a rock, but for all they saw, the rock could be a perfectly cut diamond. Bindu was excited.

When the sounds of eating ceased, her sight returned to Melee and the rabbit, or, what was once a rabbit; it was now a pile of red meat, fur, and bones. The pup was staring up at her warmly, a smear of red on her cheek. She nudged the carcass a little closer to Bindu's dainty white paws and then paused, as if waiting. It was remarkable how much could be collected from a silent exchange such as this- somewhat guiltily, the young woman began to eat.

Her jaws parted and chewed with some protest, weak from disuse, but her stomach sang praises. Yet, the teen only took a few bites, and left what little remained of the rabbit for Melee to finish. Sitting next to her, the child looked strangely tiny, like a fluffy doll. "Thanks," she murmured, feeling full and satisfied. "You have very keen eyes, Miss Melee."
