I'll be waiting here to meet you

Her head was moaning together with the dead trees as she slowly trotted in-between the trees. In truth she was not, but when she drifted along in her childhood’s scenery she couldn’t help feeling old and used up. Seasons had come and passed since she first had approached this ghostly scenery as a child. If there was one place in this world she would never grow tired of, it would be the haunted forest, which was just as haunted as herself. It felt wonderful belonging somewhere, here. Had she come here to remember or forget? She found herself being an odd mystery at times, not understanding her own actions, just following them and pondering on the way. The problem was that she felt that she had too little to do, she wanted to be of use. She had been alone for more than a year, but being back here and remembering her life as it once had been, it was an alien feeling to not having anyone to provide for. Her children were grown up and gone, and she had no love life whatsoever. Still, she tried not to see it as any issue. It was the time for a slight amount of egoism. Once and for all she had to learn to take care of herself.

A movement caught a couple of gray eyes, and she recognized the small critter. She could afford being a bit childish. Limbs picked up the speed and followed the route given by her brain, lead by her eyes and the mouse. Surprise slowly bloomed in the female as she caught up with the critter without it speeding up. Did it even realize a predator was over it? She produced a shilling growl from within her throat, but the little being kept its steady paste, treating slowly a bit to the left and the right and so on. She gave it a harsh bump with her left front paw, but was not rewarded with any special reaction. She furrowed her eyebrows, a bit taken back by the odd prey that did not care for its superior. As it slowed down its speed, she lowered her head and let her tongue run over it, throwing it off its feet before it once again got up again and continued in a slow walk. So charming. She simply went on with it, giving it licks and small nuzzles as it slowly made its way to wherever it was going, completely ignoring the predator hovering over it.

Dying to meet you
