The moon arched into its throne in the middle of the bright sky, surrounded by what seemed to be millions of tiny, pinprick-sized stars. The lunar orb was less than halfway full, and it looked like a smile of a Cheshire cat smirking in amusement. Though it was thin now, it was gaining more light, and it won't be long until it was rounded and full. Though it was a spectral sight, with frost lining the ground already and the rays of the moon catching in the tiny shards of ice and making them sprinkle brilliantly, the lack of the warm of the sun made the air crisp with the bitter cold. If one was stuck out in middle of this chilly, winter's night without being prepared, it wouldn't take long for nature to reclaim their gift of life and leave behind the frozen over shell of the soul. It was serene beauty with an counterpart of deadly ugliness, as equal and different as day and night.

Mountains sprawled across the the northern land of 'Souls, collective known as the Halcyon range. Their foothills were dead with silence as the winds rolled down from the mountains and bended over the tall grasses and small flowers that managed to grow in the cold season. Anathema's territory lied near the Phosphagos Foothills, and their strong, bold border markings made it clear to all who pass it that they were there. It was eerily quiet, besides that high chirps of crickets, though no other natural noises occurred. But, though it seemed to lack any life, something stirred the frozen grass and pushed aside dainty flowers.

A figure was starting to approach the mountains at a even pace of a slow trot. It seemed to be canine, with large ears and a lean body layered with good muscles. It looked, at a glance, like a coyote, with it oversize ears and narrow muzzle, but if you look closer, it had mixed traits of wolf, dog, and the said coyote. Judging by his size and frame, the hybrid was a fully grown male, not curvy enough to be demeaned a woman. His coat was a taunt copper brown, with patches of lighter fur under his underbelly, and darker fur that brandished over his back to his tail. His fur length was medium, which was more than enough to protect himself from the buffeting winds; they passed over harmlessly over his first layer of fur, while the second coat kept his skin warmer than some.

The male stepped further into the foothills, his paw pads tickled by the soft grass that brushed against the bottom of his paws, but they were also tingling with excitement. The hybrid stopped once a breeze carried a stronger scent of Anathema than before, signaling that the borders were not so far away. His tail, for a moment, twitch with the ghost of a happy wag as he thought he scented someone familiar from his memories, one of the many guardians that took care of him, but it was mingled with so many other smells that he couldn't clarify his hopes. Though he was curious of the land before him, having heard that canines had taken a home inside of the mountain, he wasn't stupid, and didn't dare take another step that would take him closer, perhaps too close to the borderline. He had to be patient, and wait for one of the Anathema members to show.

SIRIUSSSSSS <333333333 :]] Also, your writing is beautiful! My apologies for the long post; I wanted Naniko to discover the hot spring on this side of the mountain. wc: 1,162

She hadn’t been sure about leaving the den at this time of night, but was now glad that she had. The female had been meaning to scout the northern pieces of the mountain so that she might decide how much territory she would claim next, once the pack reached the 20-member mark, but hadn’t found the time or energy to do so yet. She had found herself wide awake in her den after only a few hours of sleep, her insomnia returning and preventing her from falling back into her dreamlike state. Naniko’s mind was often full of thoughts when she tried to go to bed, making her unable to sleep at all normally, so even the few hours of sleep had greatly helped.

The leader padded swiftly through the dusting of snow that covered the majority of the peaks. It had taken her a few hours to find a safe and reliable path over the hills. The pack’s dens, meeting places, and main living areas were underground and they had not yet found a way through to the other side of the mountain, leaving her to cross completely over the top of it to reach the northern side. The two main entrances were on the southern side. She had been hoping to find a wooded area to the North of the mountain, an area that she could claim that wasn’t dead from the fires that had claimed her last home.

She still remembered the fear that those fires had instilled in her; for a good time after that the female had been afraid of the flame, jumping at any spark or bright flash. During that fire she had come across her heavily pregnant sibling Dierdre and had helped her through the birth of her two sons, Apollo and Sirius. Her adopted sister had told her to go ahead of her and find a way through the flames and then return, but when Nani had come back to the area that the cinnamon wolf had been, she had disappeared. The pups had still been there, though, and she had taken them with her to safety. She had never figured out exactly where Dierdre had gone to, though she had been told that the wolf’s daughter Addison was running around the lands. She had met one more of Dierdre’s children as well, more recently, a little copper pup named Grac.e.

The scents began to change as she came back down the northern face of the mountain. She took in the scents of charcoal from the burned territories to the north, but something else was bothering her nose on this night. An odd smell had caught her attention and her eyes searched over the ivory landscape. Smoke? She traveled a little farther down the valley that she was walking through, ears perked and nose twitching. Not smoke…but…steam? She hadn’t experienced steam that came out of the ground in her lifetime, just the kind that came out of her mouth on a cold day, and was surprised by it. Naniko put her nose directly into the stream of it, sniffing at it. The air was warm as it drifted around her face, warming her. Where was it coming from?

The large, unshifted luperci had to search a little harder to find the source of the steam. She could see more of it in the distance, nearly hidden by a large collection of boulders, but she managed to find an area to squeeze her body through. If she could get through then it was likely that every other pack member would be able to as well. What she found behind the rocks made her eyes widen even further. Water? She stared at it, unsure of what she was seeing. Most lakes and ponds were frozen at this time of year, but this stuff wasn’t. It was bubbling slightly in places too, which confused her as well. She leaned down over the medium-sized pool, staring into it. Warm air was rising from this as well.

She only vaguely remembered hearing the word that described a place like this. She must have heard it long ago. Hot-spring. Naniko didn’t dare slip a paw into the water - without materials to dry her fur off with, she would freeze before she managed to get back home again. And she still had more scouting to do. The Angela added this place to the map that she was working on inside of her head, charting where it was at on the side of the mountain so that she could return to it at a later date. She squeezed back through the hole in the boulders, then, starting back down the mountain side.

It wasn’t long until her nose caught another scent. She was nearing the borders of their pack, she knew, but had only come across another canine on this side of the stretch on a very rare occasion. The lands beyond the mountain were burned black beyond recognition, and she didn’t expect that any canine, wolf, coyote, or both would wish to cross them. Perhaps whoever it was had come from the north and had moved down along the bottom of the mountain until they had reached this portion of it, though. That would have them bypassing much of the burned lands. She was lucky to have noticed them; how long would they have waited on this side until a pack member had smelled him?

She stopped when she spotted the figure. It was a bit foggy out and she couldn’t see him too clearly. The winds of the mountain were unpredictable and she caught little bits of his scent every few moments. There was a place in the back of her mind that tugged at her thoughts, telling her that this smell was important to her in some way, but she wasn’t sure what way that was. She began to walk once more and approached him slowly, warily. They’d had an intruder from Inferni recently and one could never be too careful. She was in her four-legged form for the mountain trip and didn’t have her weapons on her, making her feel slightly more vulnerable.

Now that she was nearer she could make out more details of the outsider. Her eyes narrowed, nose twitching and working to identify the scent. ”Si—Sirius?” He had looked very different when he had left, his coat boasting the colors of youth. It looked as if it had matured since then. But his eyes were the same. His last name sprung into her mind immediately, the name of her father’s mate, the wolf who had cared for her and Dierdre as pups. ”Sirius Revlis.” She hid her excitement, unsure if she was seeing things or if she really had identified the hybrid. She hadn’t seen him since his youth, since the day that he had disappeared from Twilight Vale. Much had changed since then. The female watched him quietly, waiting for denial or affirmation.

Table by Sie OOC: Thank you. Big Grin And, its okay~ <3 sswm: 667

As the moon started to descend slowly from its peak, Sirius couldn't help but let out a drawled out yawn, his apple green eyes scrunching up and lips pulling over his white teeth tiredly. He had be traveling about two weeks and a half from the neighboring New Brunswick, and he usually only slept for about six hours every night so that he could get up early that morning and trek further into 'Souls. He was also lugging a small bag of belongings he wanted to bring, and a guitar, though he left those nearby in a patch of frosty grass so it could be a more formal greeting with Anathema. He reached the borders faster than expected, he didn't want to wait until morning and camp so close the borders, since that would probably tick off Anathema, though he didn't know for sure. But, the Revlis male didn't want to take any risky chances, and it was better to stay up, until someone came and not to find him snooping around their territory.

While he waited, he looked up at the mountains. Though the night blurred out most things, the tall outcrops stood sharply against the dark, rich indigo. He remembered seeing these mountains when he was a pup, even being told that he was born on them. Their tops were laced in snow, and Sirius wondered if it was colder up there than down on regular level. If that was so, he was grateful for his furry, copper fur; he would probably suffer from freezing to the high heavens if he fur was as short as a full blood coyote. His wolf blood outnumbered all the others running in his streams, though it seemed that coyote was dominant in his body features.

A fresher, stronger scent of Anathema rolled down to Sirius on a breeze that strayed off course, and the man quickly looked for its source. It did not took long, though, and he spotted another canine. It was what looked like a female wolf. Her fur was as white as the snow that covered the Halcyon, and the woman seemed to radiate a power like the glow of the moon. It was hard to see her, as it was for her to see him, through the fog. Her coat blended into the mist so greatly that it seemed that was a ghost, but the scent that clung to her was the one Sirius came across earlier, which smelled reminded him of early childhood memories of speaking foreign languages.

As the woman approached closer, she seemed to recognized him, and called him out at first by his first name, then his full name. Even the sound of her voice was etched into his mind from the many days he was taught Italian and French, despite the slight change of tone from age, and he knew for certain who this was. "Naniko,"he greeted back warmly, his pale green eyes shining as bright as a star with happiness. She was one of the many that took care of him and Apollo during his first year of life, and even if he spent not much time with her, Sirius had not forget her. "Its so good to see you again." His own voice has changed as well, grown out of the high squeals that he would produce as a pup, and was replaced with one of a man. It was true that Sirius was glad to see someone he was close to, since he felt out of place in New Brunswick with his mother and newly found mate. Though he had heard that some canines from a pack where his mother lived came here and made a pack, he didn't think Naniko would be here, though he wasn't too surprised.

^_^ And actually, Grace’s player has given her up…and she will be an NPC in Anathema, hanging around with Naniko and learning about the pack and its ways until I can get her a player again. wc: 297

Normally she would have been on the complete other side of the territory at this hour, checking their southern and western fronts, but for some reason she had chosen to come over the mountain this night. It really was luck that she had found him at all, a tiny speck in the expansive border of Anathema. She looked up at the moon but could barely see it through the fog that was settling over the lands. She became shrouded in mist for a few moments at a time, blocked partially from view every couple of minutes despite their closeness.

”Did you come to find me? Or...are you perhaps seeking safe passage?” She wondered aloud. The female didn’t mind either; she didn’t know if he had known about her pack or that she had formed and was living in Anathema. ”I was exiled from Crimson Dreams…or..I guess you’d remember it as being Twilight Vale. I left for a while and came back to form this pack, Anathema” She explained. It would give him a basis of knowledge, at least.

She didn’t know how to describe what she was feeling. Excitement, of course, but she also felt a bit unsure about his purpose. She wasn’t sure if she should try and hug him or not and simply continued to stare at him through the mist. It was odd that he had shown up at her doorstep after all this time. Maybe he had come after his half-siblings. ”I heard that you were alright from Grace – she came to live here recently, just a few days ago. She said that her sister had taken her from Dierdre and brought her to these lands.” Hopefully he knew who she was talking about; she hadn’t thought that the copper pup had been lying.

Table by Sie OOC: Aw, someone needs to roleplay the cutie D: Sirius wants to have fun family time with her~ sswm: 442

Sirius was glad that someone showed up on the borders, since he feared that no one will come until morning to find him sleeping while sitting up. But, he was even more joyful that it was unsuspectingly was Naniko. "I have heard rumors flying about that a new pack formed in the Halcyon mountains." In fact, a few packs formed in his absence. He had also heard of them, though Anathema, being the freshest and most interesting to him, not to mention being the closest, he wanted to check it out. He had heard that the D'Angelo's populated most of the pack, and wondered if Grace was somehow here with her family, and would had to admit that he wondered if Naniko was here as well, though he hadn't heard of any news of her. Though he knew her for the time she was with her mother until Addison took her away from Dierdre's lack of care, he felt that she was the closet family to him (though Naniko was like a parent to him), since he haven't heard a word about Apollo, as much as he disliked him as a puppy.

He at first raised an eyebrow at the unfamiliar pack name Crimson Dreams, which Naniko cleared the confusion by saying it was formerly Twilight Vale, but he kept the uncertain expression. "You were exiled? Why?" Sirius' curiosity about the outcome of his half-sibling was cleared as Naniko confirmed that Grace was indeed here, and he wanted to see her. The last time he saw her, she was barely two months old, and that was when his other half-sister Addison took her away. But, he could not just charge into Anathema's territory to go searching for her. "Yeah. I lived with Dierdre and her new mate for a while, in New Brunswick." He wouldn't call Dierdre "mother", for the sake she wasn't much of one; having growing up in three different packs and various different guardians, he wasn't quite sure who was his mother or father, and he didn't have many memories of his true mother as a puppy until she met her with Cerulean.

"Anyway, how are you doing? Anathema doing great?" Sirius did not just guess that the white woman's pack was doing great; he knew it as sure as the sun was bright. But, he was interested in the pack's going-on's, also how Naniko was up to herself.

Yeah! I got her put back up on the Open Character's list. :] Feel free to have them begin to walk into the territory or have Naniko walk with him to get his things, then go in. Hehe! wc: 526

Sirius would of course be welcomed into the territory with open arms. Family members were always welcomed as long as they weren't there to start trouble and as long as leadership was notified that they were there. She had chosen to forgo many of the rules that she had experienced in other packs, hoping to keep the environment safe and welcoming. Naniko was very strict about trespassers and would-be joiners who were foreign to her, but was very lax and welcoming to family and friends. She hoped to find a medium there. She had come up with an idea for a pack rule that had seemed to please the members; if they ever chose to leave the pack then they would be welcomed back without having to rejoin the structure. They would likely have to start at the bottom of their tier again and work their way up, yes, but as long as they were back and willing to pledge their loyalty to Anathema then she would welcome them back. She had came and left from many packs in her life thus far.

So the male had come looking for the pack. She gave him a toothy grin, pointing to the mountain territory with her nose. "Well...come and see for yourself, boy. You're welcome here." She didn't know if he had brought any things with him, and waited to see if he would say anything about it. In the meantime she considered his question about her exile. She had felt it unjust at the time but was now glad to be rid of the Crimson pack and its wolves. "A pup of Savina's got into my belongings and got sick. I was stabbed in the back by my would-be friends and sub-leaders and driven from the territory because I had left my bag on the floor on accident" Naniko wouldn't have wished such a thing on a pup back then, but felt rather impartial about the entire incident now. She couldn't care one way or the other if the pup had turned out to have gotten messed up because of her drugs. Maybe the thing shouldn't have been snooping in her bag.

He had also inquired about the pack and about her health, and she gave a chuckle. "Yes, I'm doing quiet well. I've been reunited with my long lost sisters and live here with two of my sons, my sisters, and a collection of other family members as well. The pack has grown since it began a few months ago, and we are nearly twenty canines strong. A female gave birth to a few new puppies, as well, so we will grow even more in the coming months." She didn't mind providing Sirius with this information; he was one of the few that she would trust with information of that nature from the get-go. He had always been a smart boy...she could use that if he chose to stick around. "I lived with a cult-pack in New Brunswick...I know that the trip here isn't easy. Come inside for some rest and we can discuss things further. How long do you plan on sticking around, boy?"

Table by Sie OOC: I was unsure of how Squirt exactly looked like, so I imagined him as a transparent squirrel Big Grin sswm: 546

Sirius frowned, though it seemed unaccustomed to his what seemed to always be cheerful face. Naniko explained why Crimson Dreams had banished her, and he automatically felt that it was wrong, his heart lurching from what seemed wrong for that pack to do. If anything, it was this Crimson Dreams' fault to let their pups dig in personal belongings and have no consequences for it. Though he wanted to voice his annoyance, he simply brushed it off as Naniko continued to speak. There was no need to chatter all night like noisy squirrels about thinks that were obvious.

And, as if on cue, something crawled up Sirius' leg and rested on top of his shoulders, though the weight was light. Squirt! He hadn't seen his little buddy since the day before, when he ran off to do something, and the man didn't question his companion's motives or why he runs off. But, he did worry about him when he had awoken that morning and not to see the little critter, and moved on without him since he had a feeling that Squirt would find him without a problem. The ghost sniffed at Naniko from the safety of his friend's shoulder cautiously, and Sirius whispered under his breath,"Its alright, she's family. She won't hurt you." The squirrel stared at the man for a moment, as if he was thinking it over, and suddenly leaped off of his shoulder.

He carefully scurried over to Naniko, and the time he was hidden in the grass he was able to be seen by the woman. He sat down about a foot away from her, gazing up at the big, white wolf with beady eyes. "Naniko, this is my friend, Squirt,"Sirius spoke for the squirrel, as the little creature watched the she-wolf. He kept the introduction short, since the cold was starting to get to him. He even nearly sighed with relief as Naniko offered some rest for the tired hybrid. Sirius was then quickly reminded that he had some things somewhere nearby, and murmured,"Hold on one moment." He ran off to grab his things, with Squirt running behind him and latching on to his tail. After he picked up his stuff and carried it in his jaws, and went back to the waiting D'Angelo with his squirrel friend perched on his head, which seemed to be a usual place for him.

He managed to catch Naniko's question, and had to stop and think about it. How long would he stay here? Would he leaped away from this pack like he did all the others when he was young, or would he finally settle down and finally make a home? He truly didn't have a right or wrong answer at that moment, but then a thought came across his mind that made him certain. Naniko was in this pack, better yet she was the leader, and Grace also seemed to be here. Sirius could already see himself finally fitting in with a pack that wouldn't judge him on pass decisions. His lips pulled over his teeth in a bright smile, and he spoke certainly,"As long as I am allowed."

He took her explanation of her past without words, of what had happened to her between the last time they had seen each other and this day. He had told her where he had been as well, and she was satisfied with his answer. Grace had said much the same. She'd said that her sister Addison was living in the Phoenix Valley pack, where Naniko had once sought refuge herself, a pack that she felt would be good for the girl if she had come from the same place that Grace had. Naniko didn't know what was wrong with Dierdre exactly, why all of her children kept popping up around 'Souls, but she wasn't going to complain.

Something odd was happening, she noticed, as he began to speak to someone else. Squirt? She didn't remember ever having seen the ghost-creature before, and her eyes widened when the spirit made itself known to her. He reassured it and it came a little closer, seeming to investigate her. "Er..Hello, Squirt. You're welcomed to stay too" She offered. Hopefully the spirit was peaceful and wouldn't disturb the other members. Sirius was off again in a flash, returning with a bag, and she began to walk with him into the territory.

As long as he was allowed, eh? "Then forever." She answered. "You'll always be welcomed here, Sirius" As family, he did not need to go through the blood-ritual that she put all new members through. She combined blood with them to show the strong bond that they would have with each other as fellow packmembers. Family members of current members and returning members did not need to go through this ritual, and were often accepted without question.

You can also start your own thread and see what kinds of interesting characters turn up for you. If you haven't already, please update your profile with detailed information on your character -- it'll help others get a feel for him/her, which in turn will help generate thread ideas.

You can also start doing other cool things like:

  • Earning Word of the Day points, which can get you custom titles and even icons!
  • Fulling requirements for the Catacombs, our IC and OOC achievement system.
  • Participate in general chats and discussions in OOC Garbage.

You can find general roleplay help and guidelines, as well as a wealth of information on our werewolves and the 'Soulsverse on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once though! The guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference for various aspects of the game.
