you think you're in control

The Waste.

Taxi wasn't entirely sure what she had planned on doing once she got here. Her parents had all but banished her from home after finding out she'd been sleeping with the alpha male (who was a good five years older than herself), and the poor ol' chap had been anything but pleased when he'd been caught. She snickered softly at the thought, remembering the look on that innocent boy's face when he'd walked in on them. Taxi wasn't sure if she'd ever seen anybody so mortified in her life. Oh, but it was worth it.

She remembered the first time the alpha, Ethan, had treated her so nicely. He'd told her she was the most special girl in the world, and she didn't hesitate to believe one word of his speech. Soon, the two were spending more and more time together, and he brought her gifts. Ah, the wonderful gifts! Trinkets, feasts, you name it. All she had to do was ask and she would receive. Of course, there was certainly something she had to give up, but she didn't mind that. Quite honestly, that was half the fun. Another snicker escaped her lips, and she already found herself brightening up since her parents had told her she was going to have to leave. Ethan had seemed sad, but not heartbroken. Not that she expected him to be, of course. She was only a little girl as far as he was concerned, although he certainly didn't seem to mind taking advantage of her.

That was it. She liked it when somebody else thought they were in control. He thought he had her under his finger, but all along she'd been getting all the attention she could ever want. With a sigh, she continued walking, not really having any particular direction to go (in life or otherwise). She'd always preferred her bipedal form, and wasn't about to give it up just to travel a bit.

What territory is this set in? Since the forum technically includes three, it's a good idea to state which one so people don't get confused. :]

------Anselm lay quietly in the cover of some brush, curled tightly into a ball. Occasionally an ear would twitch to catch the sounds of the forest, and every so often one blood-red eye would open to glare at the world outside of his own mind. The "hiding spot" was not the best, as the spring had done a piss-poor job in encouraging the damned bushes to grow some leaves so far (in his humble opinion), but he found it better than laying in the middle of the open entirely. He couldn't wait for another month or two--then the forests would be thick and plentiful, and maybe everyone else would get drunk off of the sweet scents of the flowers and go frolic in a meadow. A meadow that was very, very far away, of course.
------The breeze shifted, and his black nose began to flare. Somebody--a female--was nearby. Both eyes opened now, and he stared hard into the distance in all directions. Stretching out some into more of a sprawling position, he then straightened his posture and stared ahead. Both ears were pressed forward in mild annoyance--what now? With any luck it would be somebody from Inferni, but he couldn't pick up the tell-tale pack scent. Great. The de le Poer remained where he was, still and as silent as the earth beneath him, and watched with waning interest as a shifted female strode into view. The young wolf was trim and perhaps pretty, and she certainly looked quite full of herself--it was in the way she carried herself. Body language was a powerful thing. Giving a faint snort, he laid his head back down on his paws, hoping that she would just go away. He had better things to do (not really) than entertain some cocky teenager.

My mistake, sorry. x_o

She heard the soft snort, and immediately froze in her tracks, sniffing the air and looking about for who had made the noise. It wasn't terribly difficult to spot the half-obscured figure of a male behind a bedraggled bush. Idly, she wondered why anybody would a) be hiding behind a half-dead plant and b) scoff at her for apparently no reason. Taxi quirked a brow at him, her pale yellow eyes trying to figure out what he was doing and what his intent was. When nothing seemed to be apparent, she didn't hesitate to walk over and crouch down to his level.

Her backward-jointed knees cracked softly as she squatted, but not painfully so. It was probably due to all the traveling she'd been doing the past few weeks. It was really starting to take a toll on her. You wouldn't happen to know anything about this neck of the woods, would you? she asked, putting on her sweetest and most innocent (yeah, right) voice. A smile appeared upon her face, hoping that he wouldn't just disregard her and refuse her any kind of information. Surely he had something to offer... and she was more than willing to offer something in return.

's ok. Tongue

------Anselm's jaw remained tightly clamped as the female spotted him and came over. She stooped down to his level, and he watched her carefully for any sign of threat. She was dangerously close to Inferni's newly claimed soil, and her question provided him a perfect window to explain this. "Yeah, I do. If you go another hundred meters in that direction, you'll be stepping onto freshly claimed land," he grunted in explanation, gesturing in the direction of Inferni with his nose. "It's not exactly something I'd recommend," he added, leaving the partial threat, partial warning to hang awkwardly in the air.
------Even Anselm had a shred of rationality in him. For now, nobody would be punished too greatly for overstepping the newly laid boundaries, much less getting "too close." A verbal warning would suffice, but let it be known that only a fool would choose to disregard the red-eyed wolf. They couldn't be expected to telepathically receive the information from the cosmos that the relatively unmarked boundaries were now claimed, but they would be expected to take the news to heart, and tell all their friends. He wasn't evil, after all--he was just fiercely antisocial. This was likely painfully apparent for the dark female, who was met, for the time being, with nothing but silence.

She listened, then nodded. Quite frankly, she wasn't interesting in being attacked and mauled to death. Nope, not really at the top of her list of things to do once she'd gotten here, that was for sure. Thanks for the heads-up, she replied, Are there lots of new claimed lands I should know about? she asked, wondering if this was some kind of newly-discovered territory she was walking into. For all she knew everybody had lived here since birth. Of course, she wouldn't be so stupid as to believe everything she told herself, so she pushed that theory aside.

As she made herself more comfortable, twisting and turning so her legs were out in front of her and her arms kept her propped up, she wondered why this guy seemed like such a badass. Or rather, why he acted like one at all. Being a badass was all good in theory, but one certainly couldn't have a whole lot of fun that way. It was all stern looks and angry bites all the time—not exactly something that Taxi considered to be "fun" in any sense of the word.

------Whoever she was, she didn't seem confrontational. She was not defiant and seemed to have reasonable questions, and Anselm relaxed a bit, slowly growing less annoyed. The prospect of interacting still failed to delight him, but at least he wasn't being hounded with idiodic remarks or dealing with an asshole (poor her, on the other hand...). "I guess so," he said with a shrug. "There was a fire somewhere outside of this immediate area. Nearly all of the residents who did not perish have been moving in here," he remarked, at least somewhat surprised she had not been apart of that. The whole region had been largely uninhabited for some time, and that was the reason that he had moved here to begin with.
------That left open some other questions--namely where she had come from, then, but he didn't care enough to ask. As long as there weren't hoardes of others trailing behind her for some damned reason, she'd probably have little impact on the ecosystem or social structure of the area. He certainly couldn't imagine that massive disasters would strike two places at the same time, or that all of the victims would wind up in his home. Such a situation would defy logic. He still failed to understand how an epic fire had sprung up in the beginning of spring, when there hadn't even been a dry spell. Little did he know, but his cousin was directly behind the mess. Perhaps some things were best left a mystery.
