Ookami was wondering around Phoenix Valley like he usually did. He explored a new path today though. It was piled with snow on both sides of it and there were big trees surrounding it. The trees didn't let in much light so it was quite dark. He looked around happily, a new place to explore. He often thought he was still a child the way he got so worked up about the smallest things, maybe becuase he wasn't quite able to express his feelings when he was a pup? He shrugged off the thought and kept trotting along the trail. He passed by a small pond and he stopped to look at it. The sun burst through the trees at this spot, shining fiercly on the water. Some snow feel off the tree above and splashed down into the pond. Some water cascaded upwards and once all big drops were gone a mist remained. The sun reflected off it, creating a rainbow in mid-air. He stared at it for as long as it remained, he wished he could steel it away and keep its happieness locked inside of him to never let anything bad happen again. He chuckled at the thought, That would be a trick.

He kept walking and reached a clearing, it was free of snow and even despite the cold there were several flowers blooming in a corner where the sun reached them. They were bright pinks and yellows. He walked over to them sniffing them gently, ahhh.. a taste of spring. He couldn't wait till it arrived. His stomach grumbled, "I should get going." He walked out of the clearing, following the path he came from. He saw a small rabbit run across the path and he darted after it. It managed to scurry under a bush before Ookami's powerful jaws could reach it. "Dang!" He kept walking, keeping an eye open for another rabbit or deer.

He smelt another wolf on the wind, it was familiar, Kami. He hadn't seen the wolf since he met him at the borders the day he joined the pack. Maybe now they would get to know eachother, another friend seemed like a good thought. He saw another rabbit, and completly forgeting about Kami darted after this one too, it led him straight to where Kami's scent was coming from. It dashed out ahead of Ookami and he lost sight of it for a moment, he kept running though in the direction he saw it go.

OOC: Sorry for the slow reply. Been sick since Sunday x.o WCC: 507

" Its about time." Kami spoke outloud to noone but himself. His head was pointed towards the sky with his left eye clamped shut in an effort to keep out the light. Seemingly studying something for only a moment before inhaling deeply and continuing on his walk. The days were definitely getting longer now and he was glad for it. Kami was not a big fan of winter by any stretch of the imagination. Besides the obvious wet and cold that came with snow, everything else was made just so much more difficult. Though he was sure if had been born with white fur instead of his own black then maybe he would have a different opinion of the season.

Kami had begun to slowly travel further and further away from the borders. Coming in closer towards the heart of the territory as he was starting to meet his fellow pack mates and feeling a bit more comfortable. He no longer walked as though he was expecting some hidden attacker to leap at him from behind every tree. No, he was beginning to feel much more confident that he was in a place he could feel more or less safe. " Hmmm?" he mumbled, his right ear standing at attention as he looked around the frozen landscape. He had just stepped out into a small clearing when the sounds reached his ears. The distinct sound of four paws quickly falling against the frozen ground was not very far off, and only getting closer with each passing second.

Despite Kami's new found sense of confidence, he instinctively took a defensive stance. Lowering his head and folding back his ears as his yellow eyes peered from beneath black fur. Searching for any sign of what might be the creator of the sound that so quickly was closing the distance between them. The thick brush surrounding him only allowing a glimpse of what appeared to be golden fur darting in and out of the trees. What Kami's eye could not see, a sudden shift in the wind brought him all the answers he needed. The scent was a familiar one and something he had not been exposed to but once before on his first night in these lands. Kami's posture had just begun to relax when a small white blur had burst through the thicket directly in front of him. He only had a moment to catch a glimpse of the creature. The rabbit was clearly running for its life as it swerved past the black wolf without even reaction.

" Ookami?" he said as the much larger golden furred wolf broke through the brush in an all out sprint. Ookami's head was low to the ground, all of his sense tuned to searching out his prey. Kami took a single step back as he could tell that his packmate was focused on the hunt and may not even slow down even with another wolf directly in his path. " Ookami?!" he spoke again, this time with a bit more urgency.

Ookami was focoused on the rabbit and barely noticed when Kami called his name the first time, but the second time his senses came to him. He stopped the movment of his feet and he slid on the ground slightly. He popped his head back up with a smile on his face, "Sorry." The rabbit had stopped in the bushes and was breathing so fast it looked as though he would explode, Ookami looked at it, he was lucky he nodded his head slightly and the rabbit hoppped away happily. He turned back to Kami, "Sorry again, I knew you were here but that rabbit... err... distracted me." He was angry with himself because 'Ookami the Great Hunter' couldn't even catch a rabbit, he really needed to get his strength back, but that wasn't going to happen anytime soon if he couldn't get some sleep.

He was panting pretty hard, he had bolted a pretty long distance but he calmed his breathing almost instantly and looked into the soft breeze. The cold air restored his strength and breath and he was calm and not angry anymore... Well, a little angry, just with himself. He once again turned to Kami, "So what are you doing out here?" He was probably doing the same thing Ookami was, exploring the land and finding new scents. He sat down and waited for Kami's reply. He hoped they could be pretty good friends, he seemed like a good wolf and he was nice as far as Ookami knew.

Kami narrowed his eyes as the golden wolf skidded to a stop in front him. The small flecks of snow kicked up by Ookamis sudden halt contrasted against Kami's black fur. Shaking himself slightly to remove the slight dusting he had received as he spoke. " Scou. . ." his voice trailed off as he thought a little more about his wording " Familiarizing myself with the territory." Kami's voice had been clear and blunt as he sized up the much larger male that stood before him. Like all of wolves that Kami had met since entering the Valley, Ookami seemed to be friendly enough " There is more to it then that." Kami thought to himself as he looked into his companions eyes. Something was a bit different with Ookami, something that he couldn't put his paw on just yet.

" And you?" Kami asked while motioning his head in the direction the white rabbit had ran off " Just out hunting? Or were you headed somewhere in particular?" It seemed like a legitimate question at the time. Kami couldn't help but remember that he was the only member of the pack he had encountered that just seemed to travel with no real purpose in mind. While he realized that knowledge of the packs territory was important information to know, he couldn't help but feel like he could contribute a bit more to the group as a whole. Perhaps Ookami would be able to give him a bit more insight on how this pack operates. At the very least he might be able to learn more about the golden wolf himself. Either way, Kami couldn't help but be a bit thankful to that rabbit for bringing about his opportunity.

He cocked his head at the start of his words and quick change of them. He nodded his head and smiled when he realized he was doing the same thing Ookami was doing. He knew it. He smiled, he liked Kami from what he had known about him so far. He seemed pretty kind and seemed like the kind of wolf Ookami could be pretty good friends with. He looked into Kami's eyes, studing him gently, trying to figure out why he had changed his words so quickly. He shook off the thought, Some other time..

He listened to his next question, what was he doing? "Well I was at first just exploring, then I got hungry and saw the rabbit so I decided to hunt... Well, try to hunt." He gave out a light laugh at his faluire, over it now. He hadn't hunted for a while so he was sure he would get back in the game soon. Ookami wanted to get to know this blunt and kind wolf. He wandered what was under his shell. He wandered what was under everyone's shell. He knew Kami must be soft and vunerable, heck. Everyone was soft and vunerable underneath. He smiled at Kami agian, unsure really what to say. "Are you liking it here so far?"

Kami couldn't help but stiffle a small and almost cynical laugh. The small rabbit Ookami had been chasing couldn't have been much more then an appetizer for a wolf of his size. " A meal is a meal." Kami thought as he circled around the side of Ookami. Having become accustomed to hunting as a solitary predator, Kami had no problem catching meals since he entered the Valley. Without the fear of entering a hostile packs territory life had become much simpler for him, but at the same time things had not changed overall. These thoughts were echoing in Kami's head as Ookamis question reached him,

" Its not what I expected." he responded honestly as he walked past Ookami. His back to the golden wolf as he spoke " Rendall, Xeris, Noah,. . .you. Everyone's been friendly enough, but things are just different here." Kami took a seat in the snow, his back still to Ookami as he thought hard about how much information he was willing to divulge so soon. " Where I come from pack members live together, play together,. . .hunt together." his head motioned in the direction the rabbit had ran off to. " Here everyone seems to live a lot like the humans did. . ." his voice trailing off as he looked back over his shoulder at Ookami " And what about you? What do you think of it all?"

Kami's tail wrapped tightly around his body as he tried to hide the X shaped marking burned into his fur. He ment what he had said to Ookami, but it was a dangerous conversation. Kami was grateful for the pack, and he knew in time he could adjust to the lifestyle. He just had a dislike of humans even though he only knew of them through stories and readings from wolves much older then himself. The idea of fellow wolves following in the extinct species foot steps had always seemed strange to Kami, but it was the way of things. His left eye squinting slightly as he eyed Ookami, waiting and wondering where he stood on the topic.

Ookami shook out some snow on his golden coat as he watched Kami circle him. He let out a small shiver as a cold wind went by. He shuffled his paws in the snow and used his butt to dig deeper into the snow, creating a little shelter for the bottom half of his body. He sighed, a little warmer now, then turned his attenion back to Kami. He was thinking, Ookami could tell. He began to speak and Ookami focuased all attenion on him.

Ookami completly agreed with Kami. It was very different from the life he just came from. He watched as Kami sat down with his back to Ookami. He cocked his head gently. His life before sounded much like his. Well, what would have been his if he had not been kicked out of his pack. Ookami nodded in agreement as Kami asked him the question and looked over his shoulder. "Yes, it is quiet strange. The same with my pack. We were all just normal wolves, well almost normal, they didn't shift forms or anything but they seemed to have a.. Nevermind." He deicided to save that story for when him and Kami were a bit closer than just packmates. "But no one was acting much like humans. It will just take some getting used to I suppose." Ookami hadn't really taken much notice when he saw that the other wolves were in their Lupas forms. It was their life, that they had grown up with. For all Ookami knew the Lupas could think that he was strange, for not shifting. It was a weird world with many misfits and different types of... Well everything and others will belive what they believe.

Ookami waited to see Kami's reaction and reply to the things that Ookami spoke of. We have more in common than I thought... Seems that has happened to quite a few wolves here. He thought gently and contiuned to think random thoughts, waiting patenitly to see what the wolf had to say.

This time Kami did nothing to try and stifle the laugh that emerged from his muzzle. " I suppose." he said having been surprised at Ookami's reply. The two wolves seemed to share similar ideas and perhaps even pasts, but yet their personalities were polar opposites. Why was it that Ookami was so able to be friendly and optimistic when it seemed he had so much reason to be bitter and untrusting?

" Your alright Ookami." he said turning around to face the golden wolf once again, a small grin forming on his muzzle as he spoke. " I think I could grow to like you after all. . ." he had meant the words as a compliment, but knew it probably didn't sound that way to Ookami. Over the several meetings Kami had with the other wolves from the Valley he felt his conversation skills were improving. Of course he knew he still had a lot of work to do if he wanted to round that rough edge he couldn't seem to lose. Though Ookami seemed like a very social animal, someone who enjoyed interacting with others. Perhaps spending some time with a wolf like that would be healthy.

Kami sighed as he looked around them trying to find something that he could use to break the awkward silence that had come about due to his previous comment. His senses not able to bring him any sort of help in the situation as the barren forest was deathly quiet. With nothing else to turn to he looked back to Ookami. The wolf had said something earlier that had caught Kami's interest. " You said the wolves of your old pack were " normal ". . ." his voice trailing off as he let the comment sink in before continuing " What about you? You can't shift forms? " the question was blunt. Kami knew he was testing the waters with a conversation like this, but it seemed to be just about the only type of conversation he was able to have anymore. He certainly wanted to learn more about his pack mates, but he figured sooner or later that blunt curiosity could lead to trouble.

Ookami laughed lightly along with Kami. He smiled, he liked Kami. He was a nice wolf from what Ookami had seen, this was a thought that had crossed his mind more than once. He shrugged off the thought, focusing on Kami. Kami was a blunt wolf and spoke to the point, Ookami admired that he didn't seem to mind how he came off. Ookami smiled at him, him and Kami would get along just nicely.

Ookami smiled at his words than cocked his head at what he believed to be a compliment. Even if it wasn't he took it as one. He shrugged off weather or not it was, not really caring. Ookami smiled, Kami was getting better at speaking. When he first arrived he was kind of tense and didn't speak much. But with every sentence Kami seemed to loosen up. Ookami grinned again, him and Kami would make great friends, he was sure of it.

Ookami grinned as Kami looked around, trying to find something to say. He too looked around, he took in the sights and smells all at once. He loved doing this, it made him feel out of control and sometimes that feeling was good. He didn't usually like to feel out of control but when he allowed himself to be out of control he liked it. He liked feeling like there wasn't anything in the world that could bring him back. Kami's voice snapped him out of his thoughts and Ookami's eyes flew to Kami. He looked at him, his eyes boring into Kami's. He shook his head, "No, I can't. Can you?"
