All welcome, one only. Perhaps an adult that knows her, or a sibling? Artemis is in optime, if it's not clear. :3 ♥ 300+

For the first time since she had woken from her prolonged period of sleeping, with the exception of a few minutes each day and the hour she had spent searching for the red rubber ball she had been playing with that day with Denali, Artemis was sitting outside just to be out there. She was sitting on the steps to the front porch, a thick blanket draped across the lap of her thin, weakened frame. It had been a little more than two weeks since she had come out of her sleep without trigger, but the young girl was still doing very little. It was more than simply feeling weak because of the month she had gone without proper nutrition (though her family had done everything that they could) and her body's lack of use. The young silver Marino did not know what she was supposed to do with herself now. Her entire world had shifted with her accident and she was out of sorts, perhaps even depressed, though she would simply term it sad.

The sun was setting now and the air was growing chilly, but she remained where she sat, her thoughts elsewhere. Aimlessly, she rolled the red rubber ball between her hands. Some might say that it was her way of clinging to Denali when she should be trying to accept his absence and move on to better her health, but she did not think of it as that. Artemis carried the ball with her often, though she did not go anywhere. She spent most of her time in her room or in the common room of the manor, though she did not want to speak to anyone, really. The ball served as a way to ground her thoughts. She wished so badly that sh could remember more about the day of her accident. She had been playing with Denali and she had fallen off the roof... But that was all she knew, and she had to be told the latter when she had woken from her coma. She reached up gingerly to touch the back of her head. What had happened? Why had it happened?

Parker was troubled.

This was a common occurrence in the tides of her feelings these days, but they never came easier to her. Nor did her once abundant smiles, but she was trying. For Artemis, and of course her mother. The quiet girl would never forget the sudden surge of relief she felt when those rich green eyes locked with her own tired gold as she sat abandoned to die in that godforsaken hole. The cold had almost overcome her, and had it not been for her mother, she wouldn't be here alive and well today. But no matter what she did, or how ever many times she tossed and turned in her bed, she could not shake the image of those emotionless red eyes from her mind, and the flint of the arrow as it was notched back and aimed at the place right between her eyes. They were seared into her skull like everlasting marks that would haunt her for what seemed like forever.

However, she had more to worry about than her own lack of sleep. Artemis had not spoken much since awakening from her coma, and Parker often spotted her sitting in the common room, clutching that red ball like a lifeline. A great part of her wanted it gone, because if it wasn't for that simple object, none of this would have started to begin with. But like dominoes pushed by fate's hand, it was the catalyst for all of it. These hellish two months that left her drained, and left her silver sister silenced and empty. Artemis falling, Denali running away and his subsequent... no, she didn't want to think of that. Parker couldn't; it hurt too much.

So maybe she could sympathize. Maybe a bit of understanding between them would bring her out of her shell, and help her find the answers she was looking for.

Grabbing her scarf off the banister where she'd left it the night before, she slung it around her neck before trotting down the stairs and out onto the porch. Here she slowed her pace a little, softened her footsteps as not to disturb her sister much should Artemis shoo her off. Her gold eyes briefly flitted to the ball clutched in her hand then to her neck where the other hand rested. Parker made a soft noise to announce her presence, ears lifted off of her reddish-blond mane as she regarded her sister with a glance, motioning to the step beside her in a clear question of: am I welcome?

She felt no pain where her hand rested, touching the spot she had hit on the rock when she had fallen from the roof. Perhaps she would have felt a great deal of pain from it if she had not been sleeping for so long, but as it was, she had escaped the physical pain from the trauma to her head. It was the emotional pain that targeted her, along with the feelings from her weakened state, and she wished so desperately that she could be spared the emotional pain and could feel only the physical aspects. It would not have been awful to break a bone or injure herself in any other way possible if she could only be spared the emotional anguish that came after her awful fall and the events that followed.

The door opened behind her, but Artemis did not turn to look at it, a silver ear flicking backwards to listen for the noises that would surely follow the door opening. It could have been one of her young cousins, off to play, or it could have been any pack member off to do whatever they wished to do, while the young silver girl remained on the porch steps, huddled beneath a blanket and clutching the red rubber ball as if for dear life. The noise she had expected did not come, but instead came a small noise that Artemis recognized as being her sister. Parker had not spoken at all as a young puppy (which had been fine, Artemis spoke more than enough for their entire litter) and she was still quiet now. Her presence was more welcome than most would be, as she did not think her sister would demand answers and she knew that Parker would not be loud like others might.

“You can sit with me,” she spoke, soft blue eyes looking up to the golden color of her sister’s, a color she did not recognize in either her mother or her father. She had her father’s eyes, and her other siblings all had eyes in shades of green or blue, but Parker’s golden color was unique.

Sorry for the tremendous wait. :<

Artemis sat there, unmoving for a time, until her initial greeting registered and she turned to look up with those sad blue eyes. A stab of pain echoed in her heart for her sister, deep and profound. As much as she wished she could, Parker could not fully understand the breadth of emotions and confusion raging in her sibling's heart.
She understood the sadness and the regret, but she wasn't sure how to deal with it herself. Not to mention she wasn't entirely sure how Artemis was handling all of this after being asleep for so long. Denali was dead and gone forever. He would always be a shadow on the walls of her memories, but never within reach to touch or hug like she used to. Artemis was likely feeling that sting, too.

Parker nodded at the soft confirmation and lowered herself to sit on the lower step. She cupped her ears towards Artemis, glancing briefly to the ball again, before returning her gaze to her sister's own. It was not so much an unspoken question, rather an acknowledgment of all that transpired. That same feeling of remorse was reflected in the gentle, sloping lines of her expression; a tiredness that would probably linger until she was old and decrepit. Though the golden girl was usually quiet in the presence of others, something drew her to speak now. "The storm is gone." She murmured softly, reaching out to place a tentative hand on her sister's knee. "But the damage is done." Parker's eyes fell to where her hand rested, wondering if her condolences were enough comfort. If she was doing enough, period.
