Something Different

Moonglow had spent the last several days dithering. She'd taken to haunting the borderlands of Dahlia De Ma, several times crossing into neutral territory only to come back before she got more than a couple miles. The problem was that she, well, liked it here.

There was little that reminded her of home and kindness seemed a common trait. She wanted to stay, to have a pack again. The young female turned a small tight circle in place before curling up at the base of a pine tree in sight of the end of pack territory. Moonglow was not hungry, but she was torn.

Accepting other wolves as pack would be dangerous. What if something happened again? Moonglow huffed a sigh, she didn't want to think anymore. A cloying blanket of depression began to drape itself over her. What did it matter if she liked it here? They would never be family. Her family was dead and she was alone.

Completely, totally alone.

And she always would be.

Moonglow closed her eyes and fell into darkness.

Barely a moment passed before the little knot of fur at the base of the tree began to change. It was a smooth transformation. Just the gradual shift of muscles growing thicker, bones shifting just so and fur growing. When the wolf had become a full secui she rolled to her feet and shook her fur out briskly. She also began to stretch.

Limber and comfortable in her own skin once more, Nightfall snorted, ears disdainful. Moonglow was such a pathetic little nothing. She was also dreadfully dull, always moping and whining. Nightfall dismissed Moonglow from her mind and began stalking forward, silent as a hunter ought to be. She felt better than she usually did when she was free to do as she wished at last. Food must be plentiful here.

Wonderful.

Nightfall grinned, showing just the barest gleam of ivory fangs. A hunt sounded delightful, she even felt well enough to play. There was nothing quite like the terrified squealing of prey, after all and it'd been far to long since last she'd caused it. Golden eyes glinting in anticipation, Nightfall began moving deeper into Delia territory.

Spring was in the air, so finding prey was easy enough. A couple minutes of stillness, a rustle in the grass and viola: one dazed rat beneath her paws. Not the most glamorous of beginnings, perhaps, but the little rodents were always amusing. Nightfall shifted back eying the creature before picking it up gently but firmly in her jaws. A moment ticked by before the rat began to squirm, Nightfall tightened her hold.

The rat squealed, the female snorted in amusement and squeezed again, another squeal. Tail wagging the secui sank onto her haunches and gnawed at the rat in her mouth, making it into a living toy. She had to be careful, if she bit down too hard it would die and that would be no fun at all. After one particularly loud squeal that may more aptly be described as a shriek Nightfall dropped her rat onto the ground. It lay bleeding and panting exactly where it landed. She nudged it with a paw, it twitched so she nudged it again only harder.

The rat made a pained noised and writhed in place, she could only assume it was trying to get away. Nightfall dropped a heavy paw on it but it just grew still, barely alive. Bored, Nightfall picked it up and bit down, killing the animal with a crunch. She swallowed it and decided to try and find something a bit bigger this time. The smaller animals never lasted very long. How boring.
