The day had begun bright and golden, the sun at last surrendering some of its heat now that Spring was approaching. The improving weather was infectious, spurring Kansas to venture out of the comfort of Crimson Dreams and set off into the wilderness. He had no route to follow, preferring the mediocre thrill of wandering aimlessly until he came upon something interesting.

He left early in the morning, when the sun was just beginning to shine its vibrant rays. He went north, his path taking him across the beautiful landscape, over hills, through emerald forests and across sparkling streams. The scent of a rabbit once came to his attention and he followed the scent right into an easy ambush that rendered him a small snack. Just as he had finished eating and was licking crimson blood from his pale maw, the sky began to darken, powerful gray clouds obscuring the light of the sun. Though the sudden cloud cover was disappointing, he kept on his way. It started to rain just as the snowy wolf had reached a strange, sparse forest potent with the scent of canines. Wary, he paused, sitting back on his haunches and peering into the unknown territory. It was late afternoon and the rain should have encouraged him to turn back, but there was something about this place that kept him adhered to the spot.

There was a strange energy here, a presence rousing intense anxiety that tore and twisted his chest. Kansas dropped his crown low, icy blue eyes staring aimlessly at his paws and an uncertain grimace on his face. It bothered him that he could not identify what was making him feel so uncomfortable, yet his curiosity was too strong and he could not turn back. The pale wolf lifted his muzzle skyward and sang of his presence, the howl strangely soft in pitch. He did not know what would transpire when a pack wolf discovered him, but he hoped that whomever it was could give him the answer to why he was feeling this way.
