OOC Thread dated June 7 - Alaine!

Twenty-four hours. Time was a funny thing now. It had been acting up ever since she gave birth to her beautiful children. Actually, longer than that even; perhaps ever since she had become pregnant. Usually the hours felt painfully long, but only when it was least convenient. When she was enjoying her time with her daughters the hours seemed to fly by. But never did a day ever seem normal. She was pretty much convinced that she would never see a “normal” day again. Yet, resilient as any young mother was, the Takekuro woman was adjusting quickly.

It had been less than twenty-four hours since the woman reentered the Court for the first time in months and reunited with her brother. So recently had the silvery man met his nieces, and how recently the cloudy woman met her nephew. The world swept them up after their tearful, heart-wrenching moment in the woods. It hadn't taken long for all of the pups to demand a meal, and for Orin and Niro to decide it would be best for them to let Vigilante know of Orin's presence. The gracious King granted her permission to stay in the Court for a few days, despite her now dreaded status as a lone wolf. Orin was determined to make herself useful to her former pack in return for their generosity.

Though she wished it weren't so, her brother had to attend to duties and leave her side for a while. Orin would have happily tagged along had it not been for the daughters that needed her attention. She could have found a sitter, but Orin reasoned that she did not want to burden the pack any more than she must. Mostly, though, she did not want to let her daughters out of her sight. Remembering the garden's tenancy to weed in the wet months, the wolfess soon found herself within the gated sanctuary of the Chien Hotel. The familiar clank of the old iron gate latching behind her was soothing to the soul, and the thought of her pups having a safe perimeter to run and play in was twice as pacifying. She watched with a genuine smile as the two girls ran into the garden and admired the stone hotel.

“I used to live here,” she said to her girls, following their path. When they responded with 'Oohs!' and 'Really?' Orin nodded. “This was my first home when I first arrived on this province.” She noted the confused looks on her daughters' faces. Yes, she was still working to smooth over the lies she had told her children, replacing them with the truthful stories that the girls deserved to know. “I have much to tell you, my little fairies. And it'll all come, in time. Your Uncle and I used to have rooms side-by-side, actually, though he doesn't live in his anymore, either. Perhaps my old room is still vacant?”

When her musing died her eyes met the pups' eager faces. She was powerless to resist. “Okay, okay. We can take a peek inside. Might as well go now before we get dirty from weeding. But,” she held up her index finger, signaling the importance of the pups' full attention. “We are NOT to enter any rooms that are occupied. If you make a mis step, you apologize immediately and leave the room. And Titania, furniture is not a chew toy. Only your sister.”

With that, the girls nodded vigorously and promised to be good. Then the trio, led by Orin, began to climb the stairs that led to the hotel's entrance.

Word Count → 3+ :: ALAINE, Y U SUCK SOBAD

Things seemed to be settling down in the life of Alaine Winters.

For so long, it seemed, normalcy was a thing to be strived towards - An intangible desire for complacency, that lingered just out of reach. Always it seemed the world had other plans in store for the lithe woman; She was a mother again now, creator of two wrong pups and lover to one of the most powerful men in this land. Yet, normalcy; It came frequently these days, filling her with dread. For she had sought it so long that the Winters woman had forgotten how to savor it, and when it came she found herself dreaming up terrible ways in which it might be shattered and pulled away from her once more.

For now, there was nothing to be done about it. Her job demanded attention as always, and with the wet months on the doorstep, it was important to begin drying and powdering her old herb stocks and compiling new ones for the coming Autumn. While she had dallied in her kitchen for hours, the work was dreary and mindless, and the Apothecary sought a brief respite in the darkness of her room. She napped without dreaming, and the blackness behind her eyelids was soothing, but empty.

She woke suddenly to the sound of the gate. As was always her initial reaction, Alaine glanced about the room for her children, and suffered a moment of panic when they were not to be found. However, she quickly remembered the reasons for their absence - Elvira, the spiteful creature she was fast becoming, had stormed off in a tantrum earlier that day and would undoubtedly be sulking somewhere about the hotel. Elijah, her beloved wrongling prince, would be at the stables with Nana. He seemed to spend the majority of his time with the fat broodmare, and it gave the busy mother a relief to know that her son was being watched over.

Stretching loosely and rubbing the weariness from her eyes, Alaine opened the door and stepped into the hallway, almost bumping in to the two little girls who had reached the top of the stairs. "Oh!" Came the sound of surprise as emerald eyes glanced at the two unfamiliar children. They lifted then, to meet the eyes of the woman behind them - In spite of her changes in physical appearance, Alaine recognized her dear friend instantly. For a moment, her face froze; Was she dreaming still? Then a joyous smile spread over the weary healer's maw, her arms flung open wide to embrace the other woman should she allow it. "ORIN!"
