THE rain spattered the lanky creature who was hunched over, desperately trying to light a cigarette despite the wetness around him. He fumbled with it and finally gave up, tossing it into waters around him, muttering a curse word as he did. His bright eyes, as blue as the sea, gazed without really seeing. He’d come here after the steady flow that had retreated from the burning of Bleeding Souls, but still he could sense the newness of it all. He’d followed the newcomers actions, inspecting the new packs from their borders, never enough of a fool to run right in. Still, none piqued his interest. And so, he would remain a loner, because he’d never really thought of himself as more than that. Cain, the lonely German immigrant.

HIS long fingers played with the sand and the grasses embedded within it, having sat down to rest. He couldn’t smoke now, it was too wet. The sand stuck together from the rain which continued to fall steadily, soaking the wolf dog and his prized dreadlocks. On his back was a small pack that carried all of his possessions. He’d never been one to need much for satisfaction. The fall of the rain mixed with the crashing of the ocean was soothing. The entire lands were really something, he thought to himself, alone on the Quartz shoreline. Maybe he’d stay for awhile, if he found that the places and people kept his attention.
