Coming soon. Camping rare spawns in WoW and writing Big Grin.

The grass was spongy beneath his feet: damp, laden with dew. A thick fog was rolling slowly across the field, encroaching from the dimly-lit forests surrounding the hidden oasis. The moon, half-obscured by cloud cover, bathed his face in an eery glow that pronounced his pale complexion. Slowly, he approached the altar erected in the center of the field.
Four stone pillars jutted out at awkward angles from the ground surrounding the altar, tapering to sharpened points at their peaks about four feet off the ground. Atop each spike rested a human skull, old and weather-beaten. Between the four pillars lay an elevated stone slab, six feet by three feet. The grass around the slab was withered and dying, and the crevices of the slab held evidence of dried blood. Behind the altar was a pile of bones, human and animal alike.
Kevin knelt before the altar, bowing his head solemnly. He had been absent from the sacred ground for too long, and had begun to feel its call again since his wife's death. But he had to wait - he needed the beetles to do their work. It takes a long time to strip the flesh from a corpse, and the altar would accept nothing less than a pristine offering from a deceased worshiper.
Her death had taken a toll on the entire clan. Forty three years was too short for a woman like her. She had brought Kevin into his new life, as she had so many others. She mediated family arguments with patience and wisdom, and guided many rituals herself. And she had loved him - she had shown him more love than he had ever thought the world could hold. She took him from an abusive relationship, which had followed an abusive upbringing, and brought him to people who cared for him, to people who would die for him. And he wished so honestly, so selflessly, that he could have taken the bullet for her.
With her death, the family was falling apart. In the few weeks since her passing the family had already split into two, and there were further divides. Three members had left. Kevin had been wobbling between the two splits, praying secretly that they would work out their issues and rejoin each other in her memory. He was given much by Elaine, but he didn't have her strength, her power of will, and under his leadership the coven would disintegrate completely.
He unzipped his jacket and reached in to the right breast pocket. He drew out three small bones, the largest approximately an inch long, the other two slightly smaller. He transferred them to his right hand, and reached into his pocket again. He withdrew a golden band, his hand trembling.
A whimper escaped his lips, breaking the chilling silence. For a moment he was paralyzed, unable to act, unable to speak, unable to open his eyes as a wave of memories washed over him. Flipping her hair, stroking his cheek, the taste on her lips, the feel of her fingertips softly pressing into his back and neck. And then he broke down, dropping to his knees, cradling his lover's ring finger and wedding band in his hands. He rocked back and forth, crying uncontrollably, barely able to breathe, sucking in sharp, shallow breaths between sobs. For what felt like hours he knelt on the ground, clutching his hands to his chest. But when he finally regained his composure, the moon had barely moved.
With bloodshot eyes, muscles trembling with exhaustion, he rose and stepped towards the altar. Gently, carefully, he laid his left hand on the altar, and with his right hand he arranged the bones in a line on the center of the slab, raising the ring to his lips for one final kiss before placing the golden band around the largest of the bones, the base of her finger. And then he knelt, and he prayed. He prayed for his family, his coven, everyone he loved. He prayed briefly for himself, for the lords to fill him with the strength to guide him out of the darkness surrounding him. And he prayed for Elaine.

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
