The Harlots Flock Like Hummingbirds

Anyone welcome! Big Grin Any wolf from any pack, but please be aware that if you're not a member of CD or someone that Soran already knows that she's jumpy and armed... But she's a pussycat really, so if you're nice to her she'll soon calm down. (Unless you're an Aniwayan on another raid, in which case she might bite, scratch, claw etc. XD)

It was late at night, midnight had come and gone, though the first glimmering lights of dawn had not yet begun to shine in the sky. The moon hung fat and full in the night sky, providing enough light to see by, at least for those with keen night vision, here and there clouds wafted lazily across the sky, being caught by the breezes that blew higher up in the atmosphere. It was a little gusty on the ground as well, the usual light zephyrs were stronger than usual, forcing the tree branches to wave irratically, disturbing the birds that slept there, every now and again an annoyed chirrup could be heard over the soft whistling of the wind. Other than this the lands were still and quiet, the terror of the incident only a few nights past not seeming to have affected the tranquility of the place at all, although it had obviously affected the wolves that lived here, creating a nervous tension and a distrust of strangers. It had affected Soran in bringing her insomnia back to the surface, since she arrived here she had found herself able to sleep once again, but now she found herself laying awake, staring out of the terraced doors of her room, night after night she had tried to sleep and night after night the blissful release of slumber had eluded her. So the tall female had risen from her bed this night, taking only the sharp hunting blade with her, attatching it to her thigh with the straps on the leather holster for it; she had paced about the house first, checking the corridors, making sure that everyone was safe while they slept. She had climbed stairs and closed windows and doors, making sure the manor was as secure as she could make it. Finally when she found that this still did not tire her out, the notion that her family and pack slept safe not bringing any comfort, she ventured out of the house. The jet female took long strides, making sure to shut the front door securely behind her as she left, wanting to make sure her pack were safe. Luckily for the partician she had always been able to function on very little amounts of sleep, so she had her wits and wiles about her as she made her way into the packlands. Raising her head for the merest moment she gazed at the stars, wondering how they could be so peaceful when they could see the turmoil below them, the troubles being faced, this was of course fanciful and the sable lady knew this, the stars were nothing more than burning balls of gas, millions of miles away; sometimes knowledge could be a curse, it would have been comforting to think of the stars as sentient beings, watching over the lands with a careful eye.

The female began patrolling the lands, making her way to the border quickly and then beginning to follow it, sniffing the air cautiously as she went, not wanting to be caught by surprise. She scanned every inch of the lands with jade eyes as she walked, her velvety ears constantly moving around, searching for other sounds amongst the whistling of the wind. She took long strides as she walked, reaching down she unclipped the safety catch that held the knife in place, meaning that she could pull it from the holster quickly. She then began to braid her hair as she walked, pulling it into a long plait to prevent it from getting in the way should there be any need for the sable lady to fight; she secured this with a strand of leather that she had had tied around her wrist. Soran was now a pacifistic creature by nature, in her youth she had been more keen on fighting, but now she was a gentle soul; but this was not something that was entirely gone from her, when someone put her family under threat, her loved ones and her pack, she could still fight, she could still be vicious, she would defend the pack with her life if she needed to, she had too much here to lose it all now. No, she would defend this pack to the end. As this thought came to her she found that she had reached the river, the area where the attack on the lands had begun. She stood there for a moment, staring into the dark water, her eyes narrowed and she sank to her knees, Anu had raised her grandchildren when their own parents had proven unworthy, she had protected them, Soran owed her a huge debt and she had not even managed to protect her from the wolves who had invaded their lands. If the female could cry she would have been by now, staring into the water, raking up the earth either side of her as she knelt there, long nails dragging across the ground as she did so. The dark female could not help but feel guilty.

This looked lonely! :3

Word Count:

Parker often enjoyed the lull of nighttime more than the hectic daytime. Both had their appeals to her, but she had become accustomed to brief naps throughout the day rather than a full period of rest. It meant that she got to see the best of both worlds. For purposes of drawing, cloud watching, and general time spent outside of the manor, it was better to be awake during the daytime. For almost all other purposes, the nighttime was more appealing to her. It meant that there wasn't a constant presence of other wolves. Most wolves slept at night. It was why the AniWayan raid had been planned for that time. There might be some out and about, but the majority would be asleep in their beds. Even once rallied, they had lost wolves that were captured by the cursed AniWayans. War sat at their borders, a war that she was sure they could win. With her fierce mother at the helm of the pack, how could they ever lose? Though she hoped it would be a more peaceful agreement to end the war, rather than bloodshed. Parker didn't want anyone to die.

Tonight was a good mixture of dark and light. The moon shone brightly enough that she could see clearly around her and she was moving quietly through the woods. She had mastered moving almost silently since she was very young. Quietness was a personality trait that manifested itself in every motion of her body. Stillness, quietness, and a tendency toward the optimistic. Despite the loss that they had recently experienced, she was more concerned with peace and keeping those around her happy than she was with the war to come. There were others who were better suited to the art of war. She herself was a pacifist in general, though she would defend herself when it came to it. If the pack needed it, she would go to war for them. Dearly did she hope that it never came to that, though. Especially because she knew that her mother and brothers would be at the head of an assault; Gotham and Silvano couldn't help it, the ferocity beat hot in their blood. It was something that she had not inherited, it would seem. It had not yet risen to the surface if she had.

Her thoughts turned over and over as she walked, mostly just feeling comfortable walking and mulling over her feelings. Parker was attentive to what was happening around her, though. Especially given the pack's current state of affairs, it would be unwise to feel safe just because she was home. So it was that she noticed Soran when she might have usually missed the dark female's presence. Her nostrils flared, affirming that it was a packmate. Her fingers raised in a greeting, wondering what the other Crimson Dreams member was doing out and about at this hour.

It was lonely! Thanks for noticing Smile Sorry about the wait on the reply, it's been a hectic few days of moving stuff/ pets XD

The sable female was sat in her misery for some time, umable to stop her mind from wandering over all of the sorrow that had been welling in her chest. In truth she should be happy, she had found Charm, Deuce had come home and her granddaughter was finally warming to her, but so much had happened in the past few days, there had been so much sorrow, so much terror; she could not help but feel responsible for it, if she had been within the packlands when the fight had begun would things have turned out differently? Had she been there would she have been able to keep Anu from being captured? Would she have been able to attack that great grey male that had carried her off into that canoe? She was determined that she would see him again and that he would feel no mercy beneath her hands when she did so, it had been what she had shouted that day when she had seen Anu being carried off in the boat, and she had meant it, she would make that male rue the day he ever chose to cross the borders onto her homelands. She was simply staring into the dark water, jade eyes fixed on the point where she had seen the boat sailing away with the mother of her grandchildren aboard, she wished more than anything that she had been able to do something, the pack had managed to get little Fia home at least, this was a blessing, but she wished more than anything that the leader was here as well, it broke her heart to see her bronze granddaughter so lost without her, to see Savina having to take on the responsibility of caring for the whole pack alone. This was a burden that Soran knew much about, when Aremys had been formed she had found herself the Gamma wolf in the pack, there had been many a time when the leadership had fallen to her, and although she had been glad to do it for her pack, her family, she knew that it was not an easy task to undergo, she did not envy Savina at this time. The guilt washed over her again as her face contorted with sorrow, still staring out into the cold, unchanging waters of the river. She let out a heavy sigh and rubbed at her jade eyes, she could not cry tears of course, but this was a habit that she had picked up from reading so many human books, when humans cried they wiped their eyes, and Soran often did the same without noticing that she was doing it.

The flash of a white pelt caught Soran's eye and she turned sharply, her dark lips curled over her sharp teeth and her ears flattened to her skull as she stood, her hand reaching for the handle of the hunting knife, pulling it from its holster swiftly, revealing the long, sharp blade. A growl began in her throat as she looked at the stranger, this mysterious girl that was on her pack lands. How dare she! Was she a spy from Aniwaya? For her sake she better not be, the ebony pelted Patrician was unsure how she would react if she did indeed turn out to be a spy, or worse still, another raider. It was at this moment that the wind changed slightly, blowing a scent filled zephyr towards Soran's nostrils, she caught the smell of the pack immediately. How silly she felt now, she was far too jumpy for her own good, she gave a sigh and returned the blade to its holster, her eyes loosing the poisonous fire they had had only a moment before, her ears moving back to their rightful position. She closed her mouth and swallowed hard, feeling a fool; she could barely believe it herself that she had reacted in that way, she had been peaceable for the longest time now, but the war was beginning to stir the old fighter within her, she did not want to be that way, but it was necessary at the moment. But still, she had reacted too quickly some might say, though if truth be told she would have needed to act that quickly had it been an invading force, but it was not, it was a lone girl, a member of the pack. The sable female's shoulders slumped as she looked at the younger female. Her face changed again, this time into an apologetic smile.
I am sorry about that, I hope I did not startle you, with the current war I am perhaps a little more jumpy than I might need to be. Soran said quickly, dipping her head in a sign of an apology, before raising her head to look at the pale female once again. She managed a warmer smile now, this girl was no foe, she was a member of the pack, she was practically family, it would not do for Soran to seem cold and unfriendly now.
My name is Soran, what is yours? She asked, bowing her head again slightly as she introduced herself, trying to be even more polite now that she had acted so threateningly towards the younger girl, she felt very foolish and hoped that this pale female would accept her apology.
