Anyone and everyone welcome Smile Just if you're not a wolf Soran knows or a member of CD the old girl might be a bit nervous, just as a warning Smile. Set on October the 13th. WC: 888

The nights were drawing in far more quickly now that the autumn had come, long gone were the lazy evenings when not a single star could be seen until late into the night, at nine or ten in the evening, long gone were the hazy nights, watching the sun set, the warmth of the air around you being a little stifling. Now the cool of autumn had taken hold of the lands, a chilled breeze was blowing through the lands, rattling at the slightly open windows of the large manor house; whistling through the increasingly bare branches of the surrounding trees. The evening itself was clear as clear could be, suggesting that the night itself would be a cold one, but for now the night had only just fallen, the sun having finally given up it's battle with the horizon, being out of sight now, the sky was an inky blue colour, not quite the true black of night yet. Stars were visible in the sky tonight, tiny pinpricks of light hanging in the velvety canvas of the sky, the night was lit by the large full moon that hung lazily in the sky, being slow moving and fat. The house itself cast a long shadow across the grass as the moon steadily rose to its true, high position. The land seemed sleepy tonight, there seemed to be no animals gathering food in the last of the evening's light, nor were there any calls from the owls that were waking to hunt, all around the land was still and silent, save for the whistling of the wind and the creaking of the old wood of the house. A dark figure sat on the porch of the house this evening, gazing up from under the eaves at the night sky high above her. Soran had been sat here for a while, just staring into the sky, lost in deep thoughts; on one side she had found that her former pale mate wanted her still, that she returned the love that the sable female had for her, this was more joyful to the dark Aedile than she could explain; on the other side lay the war, the treachery of Aniwaya, the capture of Cambria, her granddaughter's mate, the attempted kidnapping of Robin, her patchwork great granddaughter, this filled the sable female with incredible amounts of fury. The conflicting emotions had been wandering through the ebony female's mind all day, she could not bear the idea of her young granddaughter being unhappy, she had lost her mother to the Aniwayans and now she had lost her mate, Soran hated to know that she was in pain, she wanted to tear the world apart to make her happy once again.

The truth was that she would be unable to do that for a long time, her arm rested in a makeshift sling that she had created earlier in the day, it was rudimentery, being made from a torn bedsheet, but it was sufficing for now. Soran had sustained the stab wound to her left arm only a few days before, when she had marched down to Aniwaya to look for weaknesses, planning to enter the lands and reclaim the young girl who her granddaughter so loved. This plan had been scrapped though as she watched the large male that had kidnapped Anu try to kidnap her own great granddaughter, the small patchwork girl wriggling and screaming in his arms; the sable female had been incandescent with rage, filled with ire and a firey poison that not many of her pack mates would have known existed within her, a battle had been waged and Soran's own knife had been turned against her, being plunged deep into her upper arm, the agony had been indescribable. Had it not been for Scarlett, Robin's companion, a large mare, they might not have gotten away with their lives, she had been the one to fight the male off in the end, to finish the fight, then the three had run; Soran had lost a lot of blood that day, but Robin had been returned home safely and that was all that had mattered to the ebony matriarch. It had not occured to the dark female how much work her left hand had done until moving her arm had become painful, her mane had had to remain loose today, the curls and waves falling about her shoulders, she had not been able to play her flute either; at least she had the knowledge that the wound would heal in the end, the muscle had been damaged, but Haven had bandaged her up before she had left Cour Des Miracles and although the sable female herself was no healer, she could sew. The wound now had a row of wobbling stitches in it, they would help it to heal she was sure, it was covered in a bandage and her arm was in the sling, she believed that she was doing the best possible thing she could for it. She dared not shift into a form that required four legs though for fear of putting too much pressure on the healing leg, but she would be there when the reckoning day came for the psychotic leader of Aniwaya and his creul grey henchman, oh yes, she would be there.

-quietly steals thread- :3 wc:405

The Marino had set out in the late afternoon with the intent to do a little hunting. Despite a couple of hours spent prowling around in his swift lupus form, the male was largely unsuccessful. He’d had half a mind to usher forth a howling call to see if any of his packmates would be interested in joining him. Ehno found himself hesitating, however, staring out through the trees considering the idea. In the end he had decided against it. Everyone was still on edge, some were wounded, and all were weary. While trying to gather a larger hunting party might have made for a welcome distraction, he was almost certain it would only turn out to be folly. Small hunts would sustain them for the time being, and their stores within the manor still plentiful. There would be other, better times when their thoughts were not made heavy with all they were going through.

So the male resumed his solo hunting attempts for a short period. When he turned out to be just as unlucky then as he had been earlier in the day, he decided to call it quits. By the time he threw in the towel, night was fast approaching and the sky was beginning its change to darker tones. He took the time to shift back to his optime form before turning for home. The Italian traveled a familiar path back to the manor, hoping to find something there that would help fight away the dark thoughts that threatened to return. Perhaps he could hole up in his workshop.

As he approached the manor, the sight of another Dreamer sitting on the porch greeted him. He recognized her as someone he had seen around the territory before, but her name escaped him at the moment. She had familial ties to someone in the pack, didn’t she? His niece’s earthen-hued mate, wasn’t it? He wasn’t sure. The Marino ascended the porch steps and took a seat beside her, nodding in greeting. In close proximity it was more apparent that she had been recently injured, her arm held up in a makeshift sling. “How are you doing?” he asked, motioning toward her wounded arm. The question was meant for more than just her physical wellbeing however. The war was taking its toll on all of them, that much Ehno was intimately familiar with. The weariness in his sleep-deprived body made that much clear.

Yay! Thanks for jumping in on this Smile WC: 861

The sable female stared up at the stars, wondering what it was like from up there, the high altitude must have provided a wonderful view of the lands, the female's jade eyes gazed up at the velvet sky, how different it would be if she were a star; although she knew that there would be no life there really, the stars were simply burning balls of gas that hung millions of miles away in the sky, they were not the sentient beings that wolves fantasised them to be, they were not watching over the lands, they simply existed, burning like the earth's own sun, warming the planet's surrounding them. The ebony Aedile was exhausted, she had been getting steadily more worn by the war, like a stone that had been in a river, if it were not for her family being here then she might have not managed to keep as stable as she had been doing so. The female had not been sleeping again, staying awake until all hours of the night and rising incredibly early in the mornings, usually she stalked the borders with her hunting knife, or in her Secui form, but now she could not even do that, she would be of no use at defending the pack at this moment in time. Using her good arm she brushed a tendril of mane from her face, catching the long strand between two of her fingers and twisting it between her long sable fingers, something she often did when she was deep in thought, or when she was particularly worried about something, at now she was involved in both. The dark female did not know what to do, she might have managed to rescue the little patchwork girl, her great granddaughter, but Cambria was still trapped within Aniwaya, she could not bear the idea of the young Marino girl being there, who knew what they might be doing to her. This was another blow to her bronze granddaughter as well, Mati had lost her mother and her mate to the western pack, Soran could not bear this, she felt so guilty that Anu had been captured; having arrived too late to rescue the grey Praetor and now Cambi had been kidnapped, it was all too terrible. Aniwaya had a lot to answer for and Soran wanted to be there when their comeuppance finally came, they deserved the punishment that she was sure would be doled out to them soon enough, the sable Aedile would enjoy every moment of watching it, she would help as best as she could, but her injured arm prevented her from fighting too much.

This reverie was broken as a male came into view, walking across the lands, for a moment the jet pelted female's ears flattened against her skull, her upper lip curling to expose her teeth, but then the ever vigilante winds changed and Soran caught the male's scent, he was a member of the pack. As he came into view properly, the moonlight catching his features as he stepped out of the deep shadows that were now claiming the lands, the dark pelted Aatte recognised him; she had seen him around the lands and the house before today. Unfortunately she could not remember his first name, but she was fairly sure that he was one of the Italian family; the Marinos, this proved the male to be trustworthy in the green eyed lady's eyes, she trusted and respected Savina, so her family were deserving of the same trust. The male came into view and nodded in greeting, sitting beside her, Soran dipped her own dark head in greeting back to him. He spoke and the female let out a slight sigh, where to begin on how she was doing? Her arm was injured, who knew how long it would take to heal, her granddaughter's mate had been kidnapped, her great granddaughter had almost been kidnapped and the large male that had tried to carry out the crime was still breathing, these were all things that the sable female could not feel happy about. However she had fallen in love once again, even though she had had to break the news to Charm and her family seemed to be warming to her, these were all things to be grateful for, she was a mixed bag of emotions at the moment. Not wanting her tale to sound too much like a sob story she instead decided upon a happier answer.
"Oh I have had far worse." The dark lady replied, gesturing to the scar across her face with her good arm, smiling at the male. What she had said had been true, she had almost died before and the attack from Hollow had been far more painful and humiliating, however she had never been stabbed before, it had been a terrible experience, one that she did not wish to repeat any time soon.
"I'm Soran by the way, Soran Aatte." Soran said, offering her good hand to the male to shake, she smiled at him, it was nice to have some companionship when she was in one of her frequent boughts of insomnia.

Of course! Big Grin wc:477

Ehno did not often consider the stars or what might lie beyond them. They were out of his reach, unattainable, unexplorable, and as such, deep thoughts regarding them did not often cross his mind. What would be the point? Perhaps there were gods out there, who could say? The only thing Ehno truly believed in was Fate, and oh, was she a fickle being. She would grant them peace and happiness, allow them comfort and safety, and without warning she would take it all away. Throw them into chaos and confusion and watch them squirm. The Marino did not know how long Fate would choose to torture them like this, but he knew the Dreamers could not handle it for much longer.

While there had been physical conflicts already—his packmate’s wounded arm a prime example of this—this war was almost certain to see more bloodshed. While the male himself had remained untouched during previous raids, he knew that wasn’t likely to remain true for long. His patience for playing the defense was slowly beginning to grow thin. His fighting skills may have been poor, but he could not stand these attacks against his Dreamer family for much longer. His anger encouraged him to retaliate, and he would gladly do so, given the chance. The Dreamers needed to take action. But time and patience was required of them, lest their attack turn into nothing but folly. Until then, he would sit tight, able to do nothing more than agonize whether there would be another strike against them.

After a moment with a sigh left hanging in the air, the dark-furred woman offered him a somewhat positive response, citing that she’d seen worse, as evidenced by the scar that lined her face. There was a story behind that scar, like any other. Ehno, despite his typically peaceful ways, had his own fair share of stories displayed upon him. She introduced herself but a moment later. Soran, yes, that was her name. And she was an Aatte as well, certainly related to Mati and Haven. It was a pleasant surprise; he hadn’t expected to be meeting anyone from the non-D’Angelo half of their heritage after all this time. He returned her smile and took up her offered hand for a shake. Piacere, Soran. I am Ehno Marino.”

Their greeting completed, he pulled back his hand and brushed some of his hair away from his eyes before letting it fall once more to his side. “It is admirable of you, to be holding up so well in times like these.” A tired smile clung to his lips. “One can only hope the fighting will end soon… and our family safely returned to us.” A niece and nephew still remained within the clutches of AniWaya, a fact that filled his heart with more and more dread as each day passed.

Is it Ehno that had a litter of pups with Naniko? WC: 1007 Apologies as everyone said, I am long winded XD

The sable female herself was a great believer in fate, she herself had seen too many twists and turns of her fickle nature not to; often it seemed that she would give the sable female everything she wanted, love, friends, a pack, a home, only to make it all the more painful when one or more of those things was ripped away from her. It seemed that the cruel mistress that controlled the wolves' lives was softening though, the war had brought good as well as the terrible bad, after the ebont pelted Aedile had rescued Robin it seemed that Haven, her grandson was warming to her and of course her former mate, Deuce had returned and the pair had fallen back into their routine of being so inconvieniently in love with one another; perhaps fate only deemed acts of cruelty worthy of the naive and trusting; after so many years of incredible joys and devestating sorrow Soran was neither of those things anymore. She trusted those in her pack, her extended family and she trusted her blood family, but she was far less likely to be trusting of a stranger nowadays, especially with the current war, anyone that called at the borders was met with a cold, armed version of the usually soft natured matriarch. She had become softer and more gentle in her older years, but the war had brought out the furious venom that her father had passed on to her through his genes, she preferred to be the sable great grandmother that she was, but sometimes the situation called for her to be more steely than she had been, like the war; and beneath the soft exterior Soran had enough steel to arm a battalion. How could she not when she had been through the hardships that she had endured in her past, it was a wonder that she was not a colder wolf, practically a hermit. The sable female smiled at the male as he spoke, shaking his hand gratefully, pleased that he seemed as willing to talk as she did this night, it seemed neither of the pair could sleep, the male's name was Ehno, Soran scanned her memory for who he would be, he knew that he was a Marino, finally she settled on him being Savina's brother, yes that made sense.

The scar that Soran gestured to had been given to her by her father, it was true that she had seen worse trouble in her life, her father had been a psychopath that had hated all black pelted wolves, he had tried to kill her because of her own charcoal pelt, instead he had killed her mother, her adopted mother and her adopted brother in the pursuit of the sable Aedile herself. She also remembered the war between the Inferni coyotes and the Syemv wolves, brought about in part by the male who had fathered two of her litters, she hated him, loathed him and therefore loathed Inferni after it's treatment of the Syemv wolf pack, the pirates had been forced from their home and then they had been so depleated in numbers that they had had to join with Chimera to become Aremys, Soran had liked being a member of the pack, but had hated being forced to leave her home. The dark pelted female's ears turned as the male spoke, her expression was far softer than it had been only moments before, she had been ready to attack him after all, now he was simply a friend that she had yet to know well, so she listened with intent to what he had to say. He said that she was admirable, to be holding up so well, a weak smile crossed her lips and she adjusted her arm in it's makeshift sling, the aching was not relieved no matter how she held it she found.
"You would not remember, but in the old lands, before they burned there was a pack named Syemv, I belonged to it for many years, I loved it there, it was my home. Then Inferni, the coyote pack attacked us, they drove us from our pack lands. I am living in gratitude that we are strong enough that that had yet to happen to us, but I assure you, I would die before I saw an Aniwayan wolf hunt our lands or sleep in our manor house." The lady replied, as honest as ever, she could not help the way that she felt, she would indeed die before she allowed harm to come to this pack, it contained too many that she cared for, too many that she considered family. The ebony lady smiled at the male as he spoke again, saying that he hoped the war would end soon, that they would regain family members, at this the fae's eyes darkened, she could not bear the idea of young Cambria being all alone with those wolves.
"I agree, I hope that the war will soon be done with, I have not been a warrior for many years and it is not something that I had hoped to return to. And I hate the idea of young Cambria, there all alone, it is another blow to the heart of my granddaughter, Mati, you no doubt know her. To lose one's mate is terrible, but in such a fashion, it is indescribable. I hope that she is home soon. I recieved this wound when I was spying, seeing if there was a weakness in Aniwaya's defences, to try and get her home, but my great granddaughter was being kidnapped, I moved in to save her and was stabbed with my own knife." The dark Aedile said, a weary tone in her voice, she looked at the male once more.
"Let us not dwell on such troubling things, at least for a moment. Tell me of yourself Ehno, how long have you been here?" Soran asked, hoping to change the subject and calm the rage within her chest, at least for a moment.

Yes ma'am, he sure did. And no worries. XD Guess it's inspiring me to write somewhat lengthy posts, haha. wc:622

Ehno’s was a typically kind soul, one that did not hold up well in times such as these. That much was evidenced by his insomnia of late and the upbeat façade that was crumbling more with each passing day. He wasn’t meant for war, for all this fighting and subterfuge, but he would do what he needed to protect those dear to him. As such, he had to focus on embracing his seldom-shown violent side, let his protective anger take him where it would. Still, this hardly worked to turn him into much of a fighter. He relied on brute strength and feral instinct while dancing the violent dance, a method that tended to leave much vulnerability in his defense to be exploited by more experienced and skilled fighters.

Soran proved to have had more experience dealing with strife than the Marino had, explaining some of what had happened in the past in the old lands. The Patrician knew little enough of the lands east of the mountains. Many souls he had met had come from there, like Naniko, chased westward by wildfire. And according to his new coal-furred acquaintance, those lands had seen their share of bloodshed as well. The familiar name of Inferni came up, proving to have been just as violent in the past as it had been in recent years. It was just further evidence to the Marino that the majority of the clan of coyotes was trouble and to be avoided. The Aatte woman confided that she would rather die than let the fate of her old home befall Crimson Dreams. Ehno nodded, tone severe as he spoke. “I feel much the same way. I would fight to protect my family to my last breath.”

As the dark-furred Aedile said, Ehno imagined that his niece’s kidnapping must have been especially hard on Mati. He knew the Church girl cared for her deeply. Having her taken was truly tough on them all. “Yes, I fear I won’t be able to relax until I see both Cambria and Gotham safely back within our borders. None of us will.” He feared much for Cambria—his gentle niece would likely suffer terribly from the experience. She had already faced much more hardship in her young life than any wolf as kind and gentle as she deserved. And her dark-pelted brother had been within AniWayan clutches for so long that the uncle was beginning to fear the worst. The boy was strong though, brave. He had to believe that the young man would stay strong until he could be freed. “I am glad that you and your granddaughter managed to get away safely.” Things could have easily turned worse than just a stab wound in that situation. He couldn’t bare the thought of it.

Then, his companion made the wise decision to turn their discussion to less bleak topics. “Yes, you’re right. Dwelling on these troubles will do us more harm than good.” He nodded tiredly, running his hand through his hair once more. A distraction from these thoughts would be just what they needed. “I’ve been here a few years… three, at least.” He sat up straighter, thoughts drifting to the more peaceful past. “Came on a ship with some sailors from España. We came ashore here, had a bit too much to drink, and I was left behind.” He laughed at the memory, shaking his head slightly. It had been some time since he had recalled the drunken revelry that was responsible for his permanent change in location. “A bit worrying, at first, but it seemed to work out for the best.” Even if they were facing dark days now, there had been many more enjoyable ones in the past.

Ah! I'm slotting together all of the changes that had happened since I left finally XD. That makes Ehno and my other character, Robin related then, he'll be her aunts and uncles father XD And I'm glad that you don't mind the rambling too much.

The ebony female had seen much hardship in her life, she had lived a long time after all. She had been alive for well over eight years now, she had seen much joy and sorrow in her time on the planet. She had had many good things, her litters of children, falling in love with Deuce and Summer, meeting all those that had become friends when she had been young, friends that had lasted a life time. Then again there had been such terrible times as well, the dark Aedile had seen many friends die, she had also been attacked, she had seen wars and rapes and attacks, but her entire life had not been all sorrow and misery. The sable female watched the male as he spoke, nodding in agreement, she knew that it was most likely a view shared by the entire pack and not just this pair, the wolves here loved their home, loved their family, loved their friends that were here with them, they would never want to see any harm come to any of them, the wolves would fight to protect what they loved. Soran was glad that she had found a pack of noble wolves to live amongst, she would not have been able to abide living with a group of wolves that would ignore such troubles, that would desert at the drop of a hat, at the very moment that any trouble began to surface. The ebony female was proud to be a part of this pack, this family, she respected all of her pack members greatly. She smiled as the male spoke.
A very noble stance to take Ehno. Family is very important, now more than ever, I will admit that I am saddened that my daughters have chosen to arrive in such a time of hardship, but then again it has given me a further reason to not give up on our struggle against the Aniwayan wolves. I would not want them to have to endure the fate of leaving their home as I did. The female replied, she could not help but find a great respect for this male, he seemed to share her view that one's family were important and needed protecting at all costs. The sable female's ears swivelled as the male spoke again, watching him with careful jade eyes. He agreed that he would be unable to sleep until the time that Cambria and Gotham were returned, the sable female had never met Gotham and she had only ever seen Cambria around the lands, but she knew of the girl's connection to Mati and that was enough to make her family in the sable Aedile's eyes, in her heart. The truth was that she had no idea that Gotham had been taken as well, her ears flattened against her skull and her eyes widened with something close to shock.
I did not know that Gotham had been taken as well, when did that happen? She asked, her tone confused and saddened.

The male said that he was glad that Soran and Robin had gotten away safely and Soran smiled softly. She was grateful too, the large grey male could have killed them both, he most likely would have done so had it not been for Robin's horse, the pale mare that seemed to be a second mother to the girl, they would have been killed more than likely. She had fought the male off, even a male of his size had not been able to tackle both females and the mare at the same time. It was most likely luck that the dark female had been recieved such a minor injury in the scheme of things. She shifted her arm in its sling once again, wincing slightly at the pain when she moved it.
Thank you Ehno, if it had not been for her horse I am not sure that we would have escaped with our lives, but she is safe now and that was all that matters, this wound was a small price to pay for that. Soran replied, smiling slightly at the male. When the male agreed to change the subject Soran was relieved, it was much easier to talk about happier subjects with the male, dwelling on the war was simply hurting her heart, thinking about Cambria being there all alone was making her miserable, there was nothing she could do tonight, there was nothing that she could do with her injured arm at the moment. The male told her the story of how he had arrived here and she laughed, he seemed to have landed on his feet at least, arriving at just the place to find his sister. But how very funny that he had arrived in such a way, the sable female hoped that he did not see it as a bad thing.
Oh dear, well it seems like fate wanted you to be with your sister. Had you fallen asleep and they had left while you were asleep? The lady asked, still chuckling slightly.
It reminds me of my old leaders, they were Russian pirates, ended up in the old lands and never left, they very much liked their wodka The lady replied, mimicking her old leader's accent at the end of her sentence playfully.

Haha, yes indeed! That makes my character Lucia, Ehno's daughter, Robin's aunt, then. Maybe one day when I'm able to bring her back in, we'll have to have a thread with them. ;D wc:572

Family was something he would always stand for and protect, something that had been the cause of plenty of trouble for the male in the past. For years, he had believed it a simple thing to always stand by the side of his family, but then he had the misfortune of his family turning against each other. He had needed to be here for his sisters and their children, but then Naniko and he had children of their own. Splitting his time between Crimson Dreams and Phoenix Valley had been a trying time for him. He wanted to please everyone, and wound up losing trust from both sides. As far as Naniko and Savina had been concerned, he could not spend time with one without disappointing the other. He supposed that at this moment he was grateful that his children did not dwell in Crimson Dreams with him. They had faced their own crisises, but at least they did not have to face this war.

Soran seemed to believe that family was just as important as he did, something that pleased the male greatly. She expressed that she did not wish this hardship on her daughters, did not want them to lose their home as she had. “They will not have to face that,” he said, a solemn promise. Soran and her daughters were a part of Crimson Dreams, and that made them as good as family. There might not have been much the Italian male could have done on his own, but he knew the entire pack would rally to protect its own. The Dreamers would not stand these transgressions for much longer.

The sable woman seemed surprised to learn that Gotham had been taken into AniWaya’s clutches as well. He nodded solemnly, amber gaze fixing on her jade eyes as he explained the situation. “Yes… He’d gone missing some time ago. Apparently he went off on a one-man rescue mission.” The Marino shook his head, a grimace marring his features as he thought about it. That nephew of his was brave, that much was clear. Would that he had been successful… “Needless to say, his plan had not succeeded.” They would get him back, though. He and Cambria both would be safely returned to their home if it was the last thing Ehno did. Yes, thankfully Soran’s time spying with her great granddaughter had not gone much worse than it had. More hostages were the last thing they needed right now.

She seemed to find as much amusement in the story of his arrival as he had. Si, it seems like it was one of fate’s kinder moments. Somehow all of us wayward Marino’s were meant to make our way here.” He laughed, a tired smile remaining on his features. As to her question, “Ah, yes, that’s about the gist of it. Scrambling out of that cave to see the ship already on the horizon was certainly a shock.” She shared a tidbit about her old leaders, Russian pirates who apparently had a fondness for the drink as well. The mental image of them garnered a chuckle from the male. “It sounds like they would have gotten along well with my sailor friends.” From time to time Ehno would wonder what had become of those Spaniards after all this time. They were a rowdy and fun-loving bunch who seemed married to the sea. Even now they were likely still sailing.

That would be good Smile I didn't realise that you played Lucia as well. Apologies for the rambling again XD

The sable female had been caught in the tear between a family as well, at the moment she was unsure of where to turn. On one side were the majority of her family, her blood family, her grandchildren, Mati and Haven were on one side, along with the Crimson Dreams pack as a whole, Naniko had betrayed them in the most horrendous way, she had almost killed a pup with her carelessness. But then again Soran had always seen Nani as her daughter, she had known her for almost as long as she had been alive, she had grown up alongside the Aedile's eldest son, she had been a daughter to Soran, she had given her four wonderful grandchildren and now she needed help rather than scorn and hatred, the dark female had fallen victim to a drug addiction herself in her youth, she knew that Nani needed help rather than hatred, but she could not tell anyone that. And now she was stuck in the situation of having Naniko angry with her for rejoining the dreaming pack, although Soran was unsure where else she would go, here she was close to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, this had been her home for a long time and she had not considered going anywhere else, her friends were here and so was her family. Soran knew that when the time came for the twins to come to her, either set, then they would come here first, she could not be anywhere else lest she missed them arriving. The dark Aedile's heart was torn between the two sides of her family, between wanting to help Naniko and wanting to be with the rest of her family, she felt that she was betraying all of them by being with the other. She had expected to return to the 'Souls lands and find her family all together, perhaps not all together, after all Conri had committed an atrocious crime, something that even his mother, the sable Aedile who loved him more than anyone, could never forgive him for, he had attacked Naniko so cruelly, she could never stop loving him, the motherly bond was enough to make sure of that, but what he had done disgusted her. But she had been hoping that the rest of her family would have been together, her grandchildren and Naniko, ready to hear her explanations, it would have been rocky at first, but they could have made themselves a family again. But there seemed little hope of that now.

The male spoke then, promising that Soran's children would not have to endure the fate that she had done in the past. He spoke with such conviction that the dark Aedile could not help but believe him, to trust him, she honestly felt that he meant what he had said, that he would protect this pack just as she would. After all they were all family here, well as good as family anyway, Soran herself was loosely tied to the Marino clan now, the union of Mati and Cambria making them in-laws in a way.
"Thank you, that means a lot to me, I will of course help defend your family to the end." The sable female replied, her tone honest, she would indeed help protect the Marino clan, she would protect all of the dreamers, they were her family now. She listened as the male explained what had happened to Gotham, Soran let out a soft sigh as he did so, it seemed that many of the dreamers were becoming prone to fool hardy actions, they were all brave, but truly what they were doing was silly, even Soran herself had been sucked into the trap of trying to attack an entire pack alone. It was strange what war did to wolves, the lengths that they would go to to rescue those that they cared for. The dark Aedile sighed again, running her right hand through her curled locks for a moment, before looking back at the male once again, her green eyes meeting his yellow ones.
"I was about to say that he was silly for attempting something so dangerous, but who am I to talk of that, I was planning on attacking an entire pack on my own, had it not been for Robin I would not be here. She had not been with me, she had gotten lost on her way to Crimson Dreams and had been playing too close to Aniwaya. Gotham was very brave to attempt what he did, I hope that he is alright." Soran replied, genuinely meaning what she said, the male's actions had been foolish, but they had been undeniably brave as well. She reached over with her good hand and caught one of Ehno's, holding it and giving it a gentle squeeze, hoping to comfort him.
"We will get them back, they will be safe, I promise you." The lady spoke as she squeezed the male's hand, she moved back again and stared out into space for a moment, thinking how awful it must be for their dark leader to be without her children.

The jet pelted Aedile smiled as the male began to talk about fate's kinder moments, she laughed a little as he spoke of the wayward Marinos.
"I see, I suppose fate has some moments of kindness, although she can be a little bit of a cruel mistress." The female replied, a small chuckle passing her lips. The male then spoke of what had happened when he had been stranded here, seeing the boat already on the horizon, Soran smiled a little, thinking that although that situation must have been terrible, but then would have come the sudden silver lining that would have made Ehno feel a lot happier at being here. The dark female laughed as the male said that Rurik would have gotten along well with his sailor friends, Soran nodded and smiled as he spoke.
"Yes, I think that they would have gotten along very well, Rurik was a very good leader, but he was indeed very Russian and very piratey." Soran laughed as she spoke, smiling at the Marino male.
"How long did you travel with the sailors?" She asked, suddenly filled with curiousity, she herself had never been on a boat before, she found the concept of sailing rather interesting.

Haha, yep! Luci's next in line to be brought back in. :] And apologies for my post being so short in comarison. ;P wc:510

The Marino nodded as she spoke her thanks and offered her own honest promise to protect his family as well. It was this sort of kindness and dedication that made all Dreamers one big family. To a man as family-focused as Ehno, this was greatly reassuring. It was what gave him hope that they could all get through these trying times. “We will all get through this together,” he said. The words were solemn, but a slight smile tugged at his lips. He had to have hope, or he would go insane with worry.

Soran admitted that ideas of a foolhardy solo attack had been on her mind as well. The appearance of her granddaughter had prevented that, however, an apparent twist of fate that brought her back home in one piece. As foolish as a move as it seemed, the Marino man would have been lying if he said that such an idea hadn’t crossed his mind as well. Something made him hesitate, though, and he had not gone ahead with any suicidal one-man attacks. He sighed, nodding in understanding. “I think that thought has crossed all of our minds at least once. The idea of striking on my own seemed tempting at times.” Dark times, where the worry and anger threatened to consume him whole.

He squeezed her hand in return as she spoke reassuring promises to him. “Thank you,” he said quietly. They would get them back. They would be safe. Those words had been a reassuring mantra told to himself time and time again through these past few weeks. As he sat there on the porch, he repeated them a few times in his mind. They would be safe. They would be safe. They would be safe.

The Marino couldn’t help the short, bitter laugh that escaped his throat as Soran referred to fate as a cruel mistress. “Isn’t that the truth…” he agreed, shaking his head slightly. The mistress’s moodswings of late had been swift and harsh. When she wanted kindness, she gave it to them in spades. But the same could be said of her cruelty. Ehno had been through enough to know that to be true. The same could certainly be said of the dark-furred woman beside him. But what could they do but follow through with Fate’s whims and attempt to make the best of things?

The Aedile agreed that her leaders and his old friends would have made swift friends. As she referred to the leader Rurik as “very Russian and very piratey,” he couldn’t help but laugh light-heartedly. “Well, he sounds like a load of fun.” He grinned slightly, thinking back to his time with the sailors. “Hmm… I was with them a good couple of months. Spent time working with them in Santander before we set sail. We were supposed to be journeying to a place called Freetown, south of here. A storm took us farther north than intended and we stopped off shore here to wait for it to pass.” And when it did, oh, did they celebrate.

Don't worry about it, I worry that my own posts are far too excessively long sometimes XD And that would be rather cool Smile

The sable mother was getting increasingly worn down and exhausted by the war, she did not sleep well at all anymore, in fact she was usually padding around the lands at this hour, stalking the borders constantly, making sure that their home was safe, she had even stalked around the house more than once, locking doors and closing windows, making sure that the other wolves in the pack would be able to sleep soundly in their beds, knowing that they would be safe. She had not intended to become a one wolf pack protector, but some how it had happened. The Marino male looked at her and spoke and a smile tugged at the corner of the ebony Aedile's lips, the words were comforting and gave her hope, it was true that the whole pack were in this together. Although that was a saddening thought, it was also a good thing, the whole pack were united as one, they would outnumber the horrid wolves sooner or later and then they would finally be able to put an end to the savage rule of the cruel Alpha of Aniwaya. The sable female nodded.
"Yes, I am sure we will all get through this together and come out the other side stronger and better wolves for it. Hopefully it will end soon and we will be able to move on with our lives. At least we know that all of the pack will stand together. It gives me courage to know that at least the strength of the whole pack is together on this issue." The dark pelted female replied with a smile, looking at the Marino male, her tone was as honest as always, she was the kind of wolf who tried to be as honest as she possibly could be. The male said that the idea of going off on a solo rescue mission had crossed his mind a few times, the truth was that it was tantamount to suicide, the sable female realised that now, but at the time the fury that had been boiling in the pit of her stomach had clouded her judgement, she had been single minded, entirely focused on the idea of getting Cambria back. She supposed that she should have been grateful to the cruel mistress of fate, she had lead Robin to the Aniwayan borders and had stopped the sable female being killed, for that was what she would have been had Robin not turned up. The dark pelted female had received a small injury compared to having her life ended, really she was incredibly lucky.
"I don't think that you should attempt to go alone Ehno, I know that I am hardly one to speak, but I don't think your sister's heart would take another blow, the risk of you dying is too high." The sable female replied, feeling a little hypocritical handing out the advice that she was.

The female smiled as the male thanked her, it was a weary smile, but at least it was a genuine one, a smile was not something that was present on the dark female's face very often at the moment, at least not a genuine one, the stress of the war pulling her face into a worried frown far more easily than it created a smile. She knew that the male must have been going through an awful time, to lose and niece and nephew to the other pack must have been terrible, she herself was not blood related to Cambria and was going out of her mind with worry for the young girl, she could not even begin to imagine what Ehno was feeling. The male replied to her comment about fate with a bitter sounding laugh, Soran understood what he was feeling as well. Fate was indeed a cruel mistress, some days it seemed that she only gave wolves happiness so that the misery would be all the more potent when it was all taken away from them. That was often how Soran had felt when she had found herself in her darkest times, it always seemed that everything would get a lot worse before it got better; there would be a terrible tragedy, such as Summer's death, then there would be a further horrendous thing, like when Soran had discovered that she was pregnant by her mate's murderer. Hopefully fate would be tired of seeing the wolves squirm and give them something that might bring a little happiness into their lives.
"Hopefully she will change her tactics sooner or later, I think we are all more than deserving of some happiness." The black pelted female replied, giving a soft sigh and rubbing her good hand across her weary face. The male then seemed to perk up as they spoke of the wolves that he had travelled with and Soran's own former leaders, she smiled as well, perking up, the happier subjects were just what the pair needed no doubt, to be carefree and happy just for a moment. She laughed a little as she male said that his friends would have gotten on well with Rurik.
"Oh indeed I do think that they would have gotten on very well," Soran replied with a laugh. The male explained what he had been doing with the sailors and the sable female nodded as she listened.
"What work were you doing with them?" Soran asked, suddenly curious about what kind of work sailor wolves found themselves doing.

Hey, I never have a problem with long posts. ;P Keep 'em comin' if you like, haha. wc:464

He nodded in silent agreement as she discussed how the pack would stand together against the common threat against them. Yes, that much was true. The Dreamers were one big family, and family stood to protect its own. They would be stronger for all the hardships they had to face, as she suggested. The only trouble was getting through this in one piece. And as the days ticked by and their family still remained within the clutches of the enemy, he found that harder to imagine. They had already been cut so deeply with each raid, and he worried about what would happen to them should this war continue on for much longer.

Ehno remained silent for a short moment as she offered her advice, knowing the words to be entirely and painfully true. She may have considered herself a hypocrite, but to Ehno, she was only speaking from experience. She had attempted a solo assault. She knew the risks, knew the danger she had put herself in. If anything, she was one of the most qualified to remind Ehno that he would have to back down until the Dreamers could make a concentrated assault. She knew what could happen otherwise. “You are right, there is no way I could take such a risk. To even consider it…” he shook his head. Soran was right. Savina would be devastated if he were to get himself killed like that. His ebony hued sibling had already faced enough in this war. Her best friend had been kidnapped, two of her children remained hostage… he would not add his foolish death to that list.

She spoke more on fate, and the Marino could not agree more. After all this time, there was only so much more they could take. “Yes, we certainly are. And it cannot come soon enough,” he added, glancing skyward. Fate, wherever she was, he certainly hoped she was listening. A change in tactics to bring them peace and relief was more than welcome. Maybe she would be kind enough to grant them that much.

He grinned as he thought back to the days he had spent on the Spanish docks as a youth. As much as he had adored his time in Rome, he had to admit that those days in Santander had been some of the favorites of his year-long journey. “On the docks I got started with a bit of ship repairs, and learning some of how those huge boats worked.” He remembered the awe he felt when first standing on the wooden decks of the ships pulled to shore. “Once out on the sea I helped with upkeep and kept it running smoothly. I suppose that’s probably where my fondness of carpentry stems from,” he realized with a slight laugh.

Ok dokie then Smile Sorry for the wait on this.

The sable female had been through a lot in her life, she had seen wars, births, deaths, all manner of things, she had had three litters of pups and they were all grown now, the eldest litter had their own children and Haven had even given her great grandchildren. The sable female had survived a lot in her life, this was something that gave her a little hope over the war at least, she had made it through much more horrible times, especially when she had been younger and not able to cope with the smaller problems, let alone a mate and pups dying; with any luck this would pass swiftly and the wolves would be alright once again. This was a more prolonged, slow burning issue, but it did not infuriate and hurt the Aedile and her pack any less. Soran smiled slightly, nodding along, her smile was weary and her eyes did not quite catch the smile, it was there, hidden but deep beneath that there was still the exhaustion and sadness. At least the pack had a strong familial bond, they loved one another, they trusted one another, they were family to one another and they would protect every member with the care that they would provide their own flesh and blood; at least that was what Soran hoped, it seemed that Ehno felt the same way about the pack as she did. The male spoke and she nodded again, she was weary but attentive to what he was saying; she could not be, she was so glad of his company tonight, she had already realised that she would be getting almost no sleep and to have someone to wile away a few hours with was a blessing. It was funny that even in the most dark of times there could be the occasional glimmer of light, it was true that when wolves were put under extreme pressure like this then they could show their most noble sides. The dark female just hoped that the nobility would be enough to carry the whole pack through this, they would carry themselves through this with grace and dignity, they were proud and brave, they would win and survive. The male seemed to know that a solo attack would be dangerous, the sable female was very pleased about this, she could not bear the idea of losing another pack member, her friend. She moved and rested the hand that was attached to her good arm on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze, trying to be of some comfort.
"I am glad that you see it that way, I know that it is very hard to consider not rescuing the wolves. But I assure you, we shall get them back, we shall unite together and bring them home. I will not rest until they are home." The sable female replied, hoping that the male was not feeling useless or anything of the sort. He was an important and valued member of the pack in Soran's eyes.

At the mention of fate Soran glanced upwards as well, staring into the sky, hoping that wherever fate was, that she was there somewhere, that she was listening and that she might smile upon them, grant them some shard of hope, some luck in this situation. The sable female looked back to the male as the subject rested upon the sailors again. It seemed that Ehno was a carpenter and that he had enjoyed it greatly, Soran was rather ignorant when it came to ships, having only the knowledge of Rurik's boat and then pictures that she had seen in books; some of them had seemed impossibly large, they were vast things that carried hundreds of humans here and there, the sable female's mind boggled as she thought about it. It seemed that Ehno had seen the large ships up close, that must have been amazing, the dark Aedile could just imagine standing before one, staring up into the sky, tilting her head back as far as it would go and still not being able to see the top of it; she had always considered the house to be enormous, a feat of human engineering, but a ship, that would dwarf the house, it must have been spectacular. She smiled at the male, curiousity now dancing in her jade eyes.
"That must have been amazing, I do not know much about boats myself, do they require a large crew? The big ships I mean. Have you been on one of them? I can barely imagine those ships, they always seemed so incredibly vast in the pictures that I have seen of them." Soran replied, suddenly very curious about the idea of ships, this was a gap in her knowledge and she had already decided to ask Ehno the required questions until she felt that she had filled the gap.

S'okay. wc:392

Part of him did feel useless, being unable to go out and do something to fix this situation right away. If only he had the power to end this, the power to swoop in and rescue those who had been taken captive against their will. The protective man felt a constant need to be doing something proactive. It was what fueled his sleepless nights and kept him going despite mental and physical exhaustion. But he had to keep reminding himself that he was doing what he could here. Crimson Dreams needed protecting. Its members needed to be on high alert, else they could find themselves loosing even more to the raids of the enemy. Until the Dreamers could find some way to rally against their tormentors, he knew the most useful thing he could do was remain here. He didn’t like it, but he had learned to accept it. “Thank you,” he said to her, offering her a soft, tired smile. She was right. They would make this right.

He smiled as he thought about the ships. Si, it was fantastic. I was lucky to have been able to experience it.” The Marino’s year-long journey through Europe had been one eye-opening experience to him. He had been but a yearling, venturing away from his roots in his traditionalist birth pack and into the wide world of the Luperci. The cities had astounded him, the various places and peoples and things a far cry from what he had grown up with. The docks had always been his favorite, where he could see the ocean, smell the salt in the air, and listen to the sounds of fisherman and sailors alike going about their work. It was no surprise then that he had leapt at the chance to join them when he had arrived in Santander. He nodded again, recalling the large ship that had taken him across the sea. “The ship that had brought me here was indeed rather large. There was quite a lot of us running about to keep things running smoothly. For mealtimes we created quite the crowd below decks, but we always made a fun time of it,” he explained, unable to help the slight grin that decorated his lips. The rowdy sailors certainly had known how to make a good time out of anything, he had to admit.

I am so sorry for the wait on this, I have had some rather frustrating internet issues last week and this weekend Sad

The dark Aedile loved this pack more than she could describe to anyone who was not a member, she supposed that most wolves that were in the ranks of any pack would feel the same, the need to protect and keep their home and loved ones safe. Soran had feared that she wouldn't feel that this was her home when she returned, but she had easily fallen back into her old routine, her old habits, her family were beginning to warm to her and she was extending her own family with her pack mates, each and every one of them were beginning to grow as close to her as her own family within her heart. She hated the idea that the young wolves had been kidnapped as well, it was true that they were not blood related to her but she was very fond of Savina and could not imagine how the sable leader was coping, Soran herself would have been a wreck had she been in the situation herself. It was true enough that her own children were for the most part missing, but she did not know what had happened to them and that was the only thing that gave the sable female hope, she did not know where they were, but then again she did not know that they were in danger; as Savina knew with her children, this was something that gave the ebony pelted female hope, her children were tough and with any luck they were living out peaceful lives somewhere. Not knowing was key to Soran's sanity in this situation, at least she could force her imagination to see them being happy and peaceful, loving someone and having pups of their own somewhere; well with the exception of Dhalia, her life would more than likely be far from peaceful but no doubt that would please the red girl more than anything else. The dark female smiled at the male as he thanked her, giving a gentle nod; she had been sincere when she had spoken, she wanted to protect the pack and the members that lived here. The dark female would not rest until the children were back within their home, where they belonged, away from the cruel male that had taken them away from those they loved. She would not rest until they were home, with their mother and uncle once again.
"I would not worry too much, if they are anything like their mother then they will be tough enough to look after themselves, at least for a little while, I hope so at least." The dark female replied, looking at the Italian male with honesty behind her eyes.

She smiled as the happier subject returned, listening to the male speak of ships and adventures in lands that she had only ever read of was fascinating to the dark female. It was true enough that the Aedile had been a traveller and a wanderer herself, seeing many different things and exploring many lands; it had not always been by her own choice that she had wandered so far for so long, but she would not exchange any of her experiences for anything, not even a peaceful life. She smiled at the Marino male as he spoke, it must have been fantastic for him to have been so far and traveled so much. The dark female would have loved to see what he had, the lands that the humans had called Europe must have been wonderful to experience. She nodded in agreement when he said that he felt lucky to have experienced it all, she thought that he was very lucky as well, she would have loved to have seen what he had done.
"Oh yes, I can imagine that it must have been wonderful, I would have loved to do something like that when I had been younger, I think I am a little too old and comfortable here to do it now though." The lady replied, laughing a little as she mentioned that she was far too comfortable where she was to begin moving now; this was true as well, Soran was a very honest wolf, despite the war she could not imagine leaving the lands, not ever, this was her home; it had always been her home, it had just taken her a little while and a lot of wandering to realise it. She listened as the male spoke of the busy life that he had lead, that they had filled the hall when gathering together to eat. Soran could just picture it now, she assumed that it would have been much like Syemv when they had gathered together for a pack meal, it had always been loud and filled with music and drinking as well as everyone sating their hearty appetites. She laughed a little at the memory of the happy times she had had when she had lived there.
"It sounds like it was a wonderful experience, was it all men, where did you go when you were travelling, did you go all across Europe before you came here?" The dark Aedile asked, using her logic to question the male, the other large land mass seemed a logical place for the brown male to have visited.

No worries luff! :] wc:386

Soran offered encouraging words that his family would be fine. That’s what he wanted to believe, but sometimes it was just so hard. "Si, we Marinos can be a hardy bunch,” he admitted. They had all seen much strife in their lives and moved past it, grew stronger from it. This would just add to their strength in the end. “I do worry for Cambria the most. Such a gentle girl, and she’s already faced so much hardship.” He shook his head, not wanting to think about it. While he did worry for his nephew as well, he knew the young man would be tough enough to hold his own. Perhaps he would be able to protect his gentle sibling.

He grinned as she claimed to be too old and comfortable to go off traveling. “Oh, I’d like to imagine that one can never be too old for adventure,” he teased. While he had to admit, he himself was too settled into this life here to uproot it again for travels as well, he knew that if he ever had the opportunity to see more of the world, he would be glad to seize it. The Marino could hardly ever rule out adventure from the future. Perhaps Soran could learn to not be so quick to dismiss it either. “You never know where life will take you.”

The sable-furred woman offered him another volley of questions about his time traveling, and he couldn’t help but smile as fond, old memories came flooding to the forefront of his mind. That year spent wandering had been one ofhis best. He had seen so much and learned so much. “Mmm, yes, the ship was full of rowdy men,” he began with a laugh. It had been one testosterone-filled journey across the sea. “Before that though, I did indeed travel through a good portion of Europe. Took off from our home pack in Italia, Monti Sabini, and made my way to Roma.” He shook his head, smiling widely as he remembered. “A big, bustling city. It had been such a shock when I first arrived there, to see so many canines around, and nearly all of them in their two-legged form all the time.” Monti Sabini wolves, while all Luperci, rarely ever utilized any form other than their basic lupus.

I have had a thought, I shall PM you about it, it's a little bit of a plot.

The ebony pelted female smiled at the male as he agreed that the Marino's were tough, she nodded. She knew how scary Savina could be when she was threatened, she also knew a mother's need to protect their children, the need to make sure they were safe and the inexplicable blood lust that washed over them when they knew that they were in trouble or being hurt. That multiplied by Savina's temper would surely ensure that the dark female would get her children back and that they would be returned unscathed. The ebony Aedile smiled at the Marino male, although her face fell a little as he mentioned Cambria, Soran knew that she had a gentle nature, she had been told in the past. She also knew that the young girl had been through a lot, Naniko's foolishness and drug addiction leading to the young girl almost being killed, but she had come through that and made herself a good life, hopefully this would be a similar thing. The ebony pelted female looked at Ehno with gentle green eyes, she managed a weak smile.
"I know that poor Cambria has been through a lot, Naniko is pretty much my daughter, so Savina was quick to explain why she was not permitted into the lands, she told me what stupid, horrid thing she had done. I am so sorry that Cambi had to go through that. I do care for that young girl you know, she is Mati's mate of course, that makes her as good as being bonded by blood in my eyes." The sable female replied, smiling at the Marino male, her tone completely honest as she replied, she meant every word that she had said, the young female was as good as family, she would have been so just by being Savina's daughter, but being Mati's mate as well made her even more important to the ebony pelted female. She thought on the young brown pelted girl, she had been told that she was more of a delicate flower, Mati seemed to be the tougher one of the couple. Perhaps there would be less worrying if it had been the bronze girl that had been kidnapped, but then again that would have fueled such a deep rage, an insanity in the ebony pelted female that she would have been killed attempting to get the young girl back, she would have been slayed fighting the guardians away from her rusty coloured girl.

The male then said that no-one was too old for adventure, she smiled at the male, it was obvious that the Marino male had meant that comment for her. She let out a soft laugh as he said that. The truth was that Soran, although she wanted a quieter life now, was never going to be past adventure, she somehow always found something to keep the excitement going in her life, the truth was though that now she was comfortable within her life here, she did not want to travel too far away.
"Now adventure is something that you can never be too old for. But travelling on a boat would be too much for me I think, I would not want to be too far away from my home, not now, I am just getting settled in once more, besides with the war I could not leave the lands. Perhaps one day I might feel differently, but for the moment I am staying firmly put." The sable Aedile said with a hearty laugh, smiling at the male now, he seemed an intelligent and kind soul and Soran was greatly enjoying killing some time with him beneath the stars. The male spoke again and Soran laughed as he said that they were large rowdy men, that sounded like the stories that she had been told of strangers before. He then spoke of his travels, crossing across many lands it seemed, seeing wolves in their bipedal forms had been strange for him he said; that was something that the ebony pelted female could relate to, she herself had been entranced by the Luperci in their Optime form when she had first seen them. She had had no idea that they existed, let alone that she had been one, they had never been spoken of in her birth pack and she had not even known that she could shift until she was almost two and a half years old.
"I did a fair share of travelling in my youth. And I remember the shock of seeing bipedal wolves for the first time, I had never known that they existed, before I was born a large black Luperci came to our pack and killed many of the members, so even speaking about shifting was forbidden, I lived in ignorance. I remember seeing them for the first time, it was fascinating." The ebony pelted female replied, smiling at the male, although she had revealed something of her dark childhood, she did not often speak of her time in her first pack, mostly because she had been ostracized daily, her father, the Alpha, believing that all black pelted wolves were evil and encouraging the wolves in the pack to shun the dark Aedile, her own father had hated her and tried to kill her.
"Do you miss it? The adventuring and travelling?" The green eyed lady asked, turning her head, her long curled mane tumbling over her shoulder as she did so.

Hehe, pm'd you back! wc:516

“Yes, that had been a rough time for her,” he agreed. A rough time for everyone, truly, due in no small part to Ehno. Getting involved with Naniko, having pups with her despite all that she had done… he had certainly caused everyone involved plenty of heartache at the time. All the same, he knew that given the chance, he would not change his behavior. But there was no need to get into that now, so instead the Marino moved his thoughts to something else. Soran claimed that Cambria was as good as family to her, and as far as Ehno was concerned, that made Soran his family too. “Well, I think we are lucky to have you in our family,” he said with a smile. Their conversation on the porch this evening had led him to believe that she was a strong, kind woman who was fiercely protective of her own, not unlike Ehno himself.

Her words summoned a warm laugh from the male, who nodded in understanding. “Oh, yes. I have to agree, even I wouldn’t be so quick to take off on another grand adventure such as that. I have my family here, and their company offers more than any journey could give me.” Even when the war would come to an end, the Marino male would not be so quick to leave his home here. He’d been in these lands for years now, and it was likely that he would be here for years more. “But as you say, there’s always the possibility for it in the future,” he said with a wink. Life would take them all where it would.

Ehno listened quietly and attentively as Soran shared her own journeys with him as well. She too had been unaccustomed to shifting where she had come from, though while for Ehno it had stemmed from Monti Sabini’s strictly traditionalist views, it seemed that Soran’s pack had much darker reasoning behind it. A tragedy had befallen their pack, but it seemed that it was before Soran’s time. She remembered being fascinated the first time she’d seen canines walking upright, and Ehno had to admit that he’d felt much the same. The Marino looked down at his hands, stretching his fingers and closing them into fists a few times experimentally. “It really is an amazing thing we do, changing forms like this.”

The Aedile offered him another question, and he considered it for a moment. “I suppose I do, sometimes.” Adventure seeking had been such a big part of his life, going out to see the world when he was just a yearling. There had been so much for him to see, so much for him to do. Even now, there were times when he snuck away from the packlands for a little solo adventuring, but it was never anything as grand as his journey through Europe. “I probably miss the thrill of it the most. But I’ve traded that in for a calmer lifestyle, and I can’t say that I regret it.” Yes, when the lands weren’t shocked by war, at least.

Yay! I think that this is a good plan that we have Smile

The ebony pelted Aedile had never felt particularly old, she had always been young at heart and willing to join any of the younger wolves with tasks that they had been doing, for a long time she had been head huntress of Syemv and so she had developed a enjoyment of many energetic tasks. Soran was always willing to help with anything she could, including the war, perhaps that was why her face and physique was still fighting showing signs of her true age, a few small silver flecks were beginning to appear along the line of her facial scar, but other than that she was fairly young looking. But the knowledge that her grandchildren were old enough to have mates and indeed pups of their own was something that reminded the Aedile of her age, but that was not something that bothered her, she was proud of her family, she was pleased that they had fallen in love and found themselves their own little families. To the dark female it was something of a rebellion against her father, he had wanted her dead, so every breath that she took was a rebellion against him, this was only furthered by her having her own pups and in turn them having their own families, she had been seen as a harbinger of death by her father and she had created such wonderful life, he must have been turning in his grave to know of her success despite all of his attempts to make sure that she failed, that she died. The sable female nodded as the male spoke, saying that times had been hard for Cambria, it seemed that they had been awful for the young girl and Soran did sympathise. Then Ehno spoke again and a smile touched her lips, what he said warmed the green eyed lady's heart, it was more than a delightful thing to hear. It seemed that the Marino male considered Soran family, she considered him to be as such as well, the whole pack was as good as family to her, but now, through Mati she was bonded properly to the Marinos and that made the sable female happier than she could describe. She loved the idea that her family was growing and extending, proving that the bonds of blood were not the only thing that could create a family.
"Thank you, I am very glad to have your family bonded to mine, it is an honour to be a member of your family." The dark female replied, watching the male with a warm smile upon her lips.

Then the conversation turned back to the subject of adventure, this was something that the dark lady liked greatly, she supposed that even though she had not thought of her times travelling as adventure at the time, she looked back on most of them with great fondness, she realised now how adventurous they had been. The male seemed to agree with her opinion, that although adventure still had a lure, that although the ebony female had a wanderlust; that they could not leave at this time, that these lands were their home and they could not abandon them, especially in such a time of need as this.
"Yes, this will always be my home, it is funny in all my wanderings I never really thought about this place, but I always ended up back here, like this was where I was meant to be. I finally realised that this was my home, that it will always be my home, I think that this place and I are bonded by some strange ties." The Aedile replied, smiling at the male, confessing her love for the lands to him, she could not hide them; anyone that knew the sable female knew of her love for this place, knew that she had finally decided to put down roots in the place. The dark female nodded as he spoke again, saying that the future could always hold possibilities, she agreed with that as well, if there was one thing that Soran had learned from her time wandering over the long years of her life, it was that fate took one down many strange paths with winding turns.
"Yes, I suppose that we can never truly know what will happen in the future, all we can do is hope for some goodness in it." The lady replied with a smile, moving to brush her mane from her eyes again as she did so; the dark curls could be quite unruly when her mane was down, which was why it was usually secured in a neat braid that trailed down her back, alas, with an injured arm she could not tame her mane.

She could not help but be comfortable in this male's presence, it seemed that he was a kind, good-hearted individual and Soran was pleased to be spending time with him. Little did she know that he had fathered children with Naniko, that would have made the sable female see him as family even more, although she could not be exceptionally open about it she would always see the young pale Angela of Anathema as her daughter, just as Nani saw her as her mother. She did not realise just how close the bonds between herself and the Marino male seemed to drift. She smiled at the male as he spoke about how amazing it was that the wolves were able to shift forms.
"I agree with you there as well, it is really rather bizarre that we are able to change forms, but it is something that is wonderful as well." The dark female replied with a smile, wriggling her own fingers as she did so, having noticed the male clenching his hands as he spoke. The dark female listened again as the male spoke, saying that a part of him seemed to miss the travelling.
"I cannot say that I myself miss travelling, at least not at the moment, though I must confess if my travels had been as exciting as yours then I might miss them indeed. But yes, the calmer lifestyle, the more peaceful time is something that I would never trade." The female replied, her tone warm and honest, a small flicker of envy for the male's wondrous travels dancing in her eyes though.

I agree! Big Grin wc:421

Ehno would have been surprised even just a few years ago to learn just how big his family would become. The Marinos had been a small clan to begin with, just the wayward siblings starting a new life in a strange new land. But slowly, their family seemed to grow. Savina and Kansas came together to join their small family with the extensive Sadiras, and before long they had pups of their own. Before long, Ghita and Ehno both had children of their own, and their family continued to grow in many ways. It brought them closer to people like Soran, and for that he was grateful. “It is an honor for me as well.”

The Aedile spoke of her strange ties to the land, and Ehno could not help but agree. “This land does have a sort of magnetism, doesn’t it? It certainly pulled us Marinos in from all the way across the sea,” he said with a laugh. Yes, this place certainly had a way of attracting people from all over the world and bringing them together. Perhaps that was part of the reason why Ehno enjoyed it here so much. It was different from the places he had been in Europe, very much so, but that did not make him love it here any less. As Soran said, all they could hope for in the future was some goodness, and he hoped that his land would oblige them.

The woman agreed that their ability to change forms was a wonderful, if bizarre thing. It allowed them to do so many things, see many places. Indeed, had they lacked the ability to change forms like this, Ehno would have never left Italy. Sailing without hands would be an impossibility, though it did make for an amusing mental image. “An invaluable skill, indeed,” he mused as he gazed at his hands. Soran seemed to be doing the same.

Travels and adventure seemed to be more of Ehno’s forte than Soran’s, as she did not miss the excitement as he did. Perhaps it was as she said, and this was due to the scope of experiences he’d had while adventuring, but maybe some were simply not made to seek the thrill of travel as much as others. Regardless, they both had a fondness for the more peaceful lifestyle, and that was what mattered. “There is nothing better than spending peaceful days here with family.” Now if only these days of strife would end, they could experience it in full once more.
