The autumn was now well underway in the lands, all around the leaves were falling from the trees in droves, fluttering in the breeze and falling to the ground with a steady increase. Soon the trees would be bare, devoid of the brightly coloured fading leaves and then winter would not be far away, bringing with it ice and snow, the chilled time that was difficult for many. The small animals and birds suffered particularly when the winter rolled around, then their food became scarce, which was of course why many birds migrated south to the warmer climates for the winter time. But the animals that had chosen to stay in the lands and face the cruel winter were now working hard to collect food to store for the months of scarcity ahead. The sky was a clear and endless blue today, with not a single cloud marring the perfect cerulean. There was a strong breeze blowing through the lands, which was simply adding to the speed in which the leaves were falling. In the midst of this Soran was sat perched on a low rock, she was further away from the house than she had been for quite some time, she was no longer as tense as she had been, the war finally being over had relaxed her a lot. For the first time in a long time she was sleeping properly once again, the insomnia was almost gone it seemed, no longer was she walking the lands at all hours of the night, holding a constant vigil, padding all through the lands at all hours, under constant guard. But she had had a good night's sleep and this morning she was in a good mood, a much more relaxed mood. The sable female knew that she had a lot to be thankful for this day, her granddaughter's mate was home safely, her daughters were safe as well, Rain had fought bravely in the battle. And Soran had found herself in love once again, she was mated to her former lover, something that made her happier than she had been in a long time. The sable grandmother was finally at peace with everything around her, the lands were safe, her friends and family were safe, the pack was safe, there was a lot to be grateful for.

The ebony Aedile had brought her flute out to this clearing to attempt to practice playing, her arm had been injured in a fight with a guardian and was still sore. The knife had damaged the muscle, the injury was healing, but it was healing slowly. When she moved it it was still incredibly painful, it would twinge and ache every time she attempted to do something with it. But she was determined to play her flute today, the arm was still bandaged and in a sling, but she was sure that she could manage a few notes at least. The dark pelted female reached into her canvas satchel and rummaged around in it until her finger tips touched the familiar cool metal tube. She pulled it out and held it in her good hand, she smiled softly, before attempting to take her arm out of the sling. She winced at the pain as she did so, but succeeded, even if the ache made her hiss slightly. The jet pelted female put the flute to her lips and winced again at the pain, but this was a case of mind over matter, she would manage this, even if it did hurt. Soran began to play a soft tune on the flute, having to pause every now and again as the aching in her arm made her wince. This was something that was upsetting to the dark female, she loved playing her flute, it was something that she did to calm herself down, she did not know how she would cope if she found herself unable to play. She attempted to persevere with it, the dark mother looked across the lands as she did so, a soft twinkling tune being emitted from the end of the flute. This was how she wanted to be, nice and calm, without the arm pain if preferable of course.

Terra laid out on a rock, a few feet away from another pack's territory. Travelling had seemed to have given her a taste for wandering, though being with people still made her the happiest. Sighing contentedly she soaked in the few rays of sun that warmed the sky. It was comfortable, not worrying about food. Winter was coming again, making Terra wonder about what winter would be like. Would it be as cold as she remembered? Would it be filled with days of hunting, hoping to come across even a stray? Would stories be told?

The softest sound reached her. Terra twitched her ears to hear it better. It was as if the wind had grown a voice, and decided to sing. Terra was tempted to join in with her own song, but the music made her hesitate. It was a beautiful song, peaceful, yet an almost melancholy sound echoed underneath, as if the singer had witnessed terrible things. It couldn't be the wind making that sound.

Stretching Terra began to pad towards the noise. Nervous about the boundaries she shifted into secui form so she could defend herself better. Straining her eyes Terra stood at the edge. Almost out of sight an old wolf sat, blowing into something. The beautiful music came out of it. Terra stared in awe. Never before had she seen something so wonderful. An ache filled her chest as she watched.

Hey Smile

The ebony pelted female was lost in the music, well she was attempting to get lost in the music, the truth was every time she managed to become really focused on what she was playing she would move her injured arm too rapidly and the pain would cause her to emit a hiss of pain from between her teeth and she would wince with the sudden sharp pain in her upper arm. It was getting a little frustrating for the ebony wolf, she adored playing her flute, it was something that she could always turn to no matter what mood she was in, it was an instant killer for boredom, it would help calm her down, it was a good accompaniment to happiness and now she was struggling to complete a tune. The lady played a soft tune as she stared out into the lands, she had realised that resting her elbow upon her knee seemed to lessen the aching in the torn muscle, it was a start at least, she had not noticed the small spots of blood on the bandage that covered the wound. The blood was coming from a small part of the wound that had reopened itself, it would be nothing, it would just require another stitch, it was nothing that the dark pelted Aedile would be unable to handle. The sable mother was enjoying the brief respite that the ending of the war afforded her, afforded the pack, it had been a stressful few months and to be able to rest again, to pursue things that made them happy was something wonderful, something to be cherished. Soran just hoped that it lasted long enough for everyone to enjoy it, she hoped that there was not another dramatic event just lurking around the corner. The green eyed lady thought all of this as she played, gazing out across the lands as she did so.

At that moment Soran noticed a brown pelted female standing not very far away, just at the edge of the borders. She was in her Secui form, something that made the sable female nervous, after all it was the form that afforded the most strength and the best fighting stance. The sable female's eyes narrowed and she stopped playing, she was unsure what to do, surely fate would not have brought a trouble maker here so soon after the war had been finished. She stared at the female, her eyes narrowed, she was silent as she watched the girl, finally a zephyr of wind caught the dark woman's nostrils, carrying with it the scent of Cour des Miracles, it was a very faint scent, but it was present; this suggested that the girl was not a threat at all, the relations between the Court and the Dreamers had always been very good, especially now they had fought alongside one another in the war, the sable female relaxed visibly, there was no need to worry, even a newcomer would not be stupid enough to arrive at another pack and start trouble. She raised a dark hand, her good hand, towards the female that was stood on the borders.
"Hello there! Come on in!" The female called, a smile crossing her lips for a moment, she beckoned the girl into the lands; she was fairly sure that this wolf was a newcomer to the lands, the scent on her fur was the scent of a pack, but it smelt fresh. No doubt the younger girl would want to make some new friends and now that the war was over Soran was more than willing to be a new friend to someone.
"I'm Soran and this is Crimson Dreams, who are you?" The lady added, smiling at the girl still, hoping that she was not here to cause any trouble.

With the warm welcome Terra shifted back into her lupine form. Bounding forward she stopped at the foot of the rock. Tail thumping eagerly she grinned up. I'm Terra. What is that you're playing? It's very beautiful. The old wolf was obviously quite friendly, so Terra felt perfectly fine asking her questions. Rolling over she laughed at the sight of the leaves falling down. It was her second autumn, and seemed even more beautiful to her than her first, not that she remembered it well.

Carefully so she wouldn't hurt the old wolf Terra clambered up beside her. Calmly she looked across the lands. It was nice to be invited into a new pack area, but she was still feeling too relaxed to explore. The weather was just perfect for lying there. Ears pricked forward Terra studied her new friend. She seemed very wise, and was just perfect for such a day like this.

Sorry if it's a bit short.

The sable Aedile watched as the young female shifted forms, back into her Lupus form, this was something that made the dark female let out another sigh of relief and caused her to smile, it seemed that she was correct for trusting the girl, she was not here to cause trouble. There was of course the issue that she was a coyote wolf hybrid, her body making that obvious, had she smelt of Inferni then this conversation and meeting would have happened very differently, but the sable female trusted the Court and accepted their choices; she doubted that they would have allowed a coywolf that behaved like Hollow into their ranks. Then again Hollow had been a wonderful trickster, gaining trust from almost everyone before he revealed his true personality, perhaps this girl was the same? But then again the girl was young and the ebony pelted dreamer could not bring herself to be too suspicious of the hybrid, after all she was not much older than a pup. Soran smiled as she approached, yes, she would give this young brown female the benefit of the doubt, if she proved to be untrustworthy then she would deal with that in due course, but she would not be aggressive or rude to the new member of the Cour des Miracles pack. The girl arrived at the dark female's feet and introduced herself, the sable female smiled as the girl introduced herself. She also asked what Soran was doing and the sable female smiled, playing a quick tune on the flute before replying.
"It is nice to meet you Terra, I take it that you are from Cour des Miracles? This is a flute, it is an instrument that the humans used to play, to make music." The dark female replied with a warm smile, finding herself amused by the girl's actions, watching her roll and look at the falling leaves, yes she was still very young, the sable female could not bring herself to not trust her simply because of her bloodlines.

The girl clambered up to sit next to her and the sable wolf shifted her weight slightly to make sure that there was enough room for the girl. She seemed a very friendly creature, making herself comfortable next to the sable Luperci without much effort.
"What brings you here today then Terra?" The sable female asked, looking out across the lands, laughing slightly as a leaf fluttered from a tree and landed on the end of her snout. She shook her head and gave a little laugh, shaking the leaf free, smiling at the younger girl as she did so.

Terra was impressed with the ease that Soran played the flute. The instrument seemed so delicate! I'm exploring the lands. It's all new to me. I couldn't resist coming when I heard your music. It was so beautiful, almost like a spell. Terra grinned, remembering the fake spells she had played with her friends. They had never worked, but it had been amusing making the strange symbols and singing together. She could only hope that she'd make friends just as dear to her as they had been.

Could you show me how it works? Terra wasn't terribly interested in learning how to play it, but the mechanisms of it were fascinating to her. The old wolf appeared to be a little hesitant about her shape. It was probably because she'd first arrived as a secui, but it bothered her a little. Maybe Soran would be more relaxed if she was more like her. Carefully Terra stepped down before beginning to shift into her optime form. The lengthening of her body was always a bit of a shock to her as she felt her body force her to stand up. Shaking her head she snorted. Terra appeared more wolf like in this form as well, something she was trying to get used to. She had known she had wolf blood, but the appearance of it was shocking. What else could be hidden in her that she didn't know?

She had been raised as a coyote and was afraid of losing that part of herself, but as long as she followed her instincts that wouldn't happen. This time Terra sat on the ground, looking up. She was still small, but she didn't think there would be enough room now. She could see the flute better too.

Sorry for the wait on this.

The sable female watched the younger girl as she spoke, it seemed that she was a reasonable creature, Soran was now sure that she had been right to trust her, after all one could not assume that all coyotes or those who shared coyote blood were evil and bad. The Aedile still had a lot of bad feeling towards the Inferni pack and towards coyotes as an extension of that, this was because the Inferni wolves had attacked her home previously, they had driven them out. The ebony lady did not hold a full hatred for the coyotes though, not for all of them at least, her children held coyote blood and she loved them dearly, she had also met perfectly reasonable and pleasant coyotes in the past, but she found it difficult to give up her misgivings sometimes. Soran nodded as the girl spoke, saying that she had been exploring, that made sense to the older female, being new to the lands must have been exciting, the sable wolf herself had explored the lands when she had arrived back here and that had been after a relatively small absence, to be here when it was all new would require some exploring indeed. The dark female smiled at the younger girl, she complimented her playing, the female grinned at the compliment, it had been rather lovely for the girl to say. Soran herself was a fairly modest creature and had never thought herself wonderful at playing the flute, the truth was that she was fairly talented when it came to her, but her modesty prevented her from seeing it herself. It was wonderful to be given such a compliment though, the dark lady warmed to the female a little more, she seemed pleasant enough after all, there was no threat to the pack from her.

"Well thank you very much, I do not think that I am perfect yet, far from it actually, but thank you for the compliment. Where have you been exploring so far? How long have you been in the lands?" Soran asked, smiling at the girl, the compliment had caused her to blush a little, but now she regained her composure.

She watched the younger girl with careful green eyes as she hopped from the rock, shifting carefully from her Lupus form to her Optime form. Soran had always found watching others shift rather interesting, of course she had seen it many a time now and it was usually the same; but still the shifting of forms was rather fascinating, watching the limbs and back lengthen, watching a mane grow, seeing paws change into hands and feet. It was something that was a little awe inspiring, for a moment the dark female thought back to the young female that she had met at the borders only recently, she herslef was not a Luperci and had watched Soran with huge curious eyes as the sable Aedile had shifted forms. It had renewed the jet pelted female's interest in such things, having seen Blind's reaction had made her see the shift in a new light again; it was in truth an amazing thing, after all it almost completely defied logic and nature, it was a wonderful thing. The sable female used her good hand to brush a curled strand of her mane from her eyes, watching the girl as she sat before her. Terra asked her if she could show her how the flute worked, Soran nodded, a small smile still playing on her lips.
"Of course I can, here, can you see this piece here, this is where you would blow air into. Then you press your fingers down on these holes here and that creates different notes. You may have a closer look at it if you would like to?" Soran offered, leaning down to the younger girl, offering the slender silver tube out to the half coyote, so that she might have a proper look at it, the dark female always found that she preferred to hold things when she was examining them, so that she could turn them this way and that in her hands and look at them from every angle.

Happily Terra held the flute, turning it over in her hands. The metal was smooth to the touch, much nicer than she would have expected. She was happy to hold something so amazing. Studying it Terra saw the holes she had talked about. It was still odd to think about it making the noise she'd heard, but it was clearly true. Terra preferred singing though, as rough as it was with her mixed voice. She couldn't match the coyote's joyful songs as her voice tended to skip through the complex parts, and she fell apart when she tried to howl like a wolf.

I went west and explored the castle up there. I came through an area with lots of woods and rocky areas. There's lots of game and hiding places. It took a while, but I'm used to the traveling. In fact, it might take a while for me to adjust to not traveling! Terra laughed before handing it back. If your flute playing isn't perfect, what is? It truly sounded like the wind had grown a voice to her, making it difficult to picture something better.

I ever so sorry for the wait on this again, I have been having some internet issues.

The sable pelted female watched the girl with careful jade eyes, the young girl was pleasant enough indeed, Soran was glad to speak to the younger girl; she was pleased that she welcomed the girl into the lands, it seemed that despite Soran's dislike for coyotes there were indeed exceptions to her opinion of them, she liked this younger girl. It was not often that the dark female would trust anyone with her most prized possession, the silver flute, in fact it had even taken a lot of coaxing from her youngest litter of pups to be allowed to play with it; the truth was that the object had been the most constant companion in Soran's life, she had lost contact with friends, family, enemies even, but the flute had always been at her side. It was not that the ebony Aedile did not trust others with it, it was simply that she was really incredibly protective of it, she had never seen another like it and she could not imagine what she would do without it, she did not know what she would pass the time with otherwise. She just did not want to lose it, it was always at her side in her canvas satchel. But now she was in the Crimson Dreams lands she had grown more relaxed once more, she trusted those that she was in the pack with and she trusted those from other packs, this was now why she was more relaxed with allowing others to look at it, to show others. Terra would probably never know what an honour it was that she was being allowed to see the silver instrument, but now she was home once again Soran was happy to offer it to the half coyote to look at properly. She smiled as she handed it over, watching the girl's reaction with calm and comfortable eyes, enjoying that someone had taken such an interest in the instrument, it was Soran's pride and joy, along with her children, mate and book collection of course. She was glad to share what little knowledge she had of human instruments with Terra though if she wished to know about them.

The dark female's ears swiveled as the girl spoke to her, telling her of a castle that she had explored, Soran herself was unsure where that was, but she knew that the lands were large and spacious and there were many treasures and interesting places across the lands. She nodded as the girl spoke, she too was a wanderer by nature and it had taken her a little while to adjust back to staying in one place for any length of time herself. She smiled at the girl.
"I know that feeling well, I did a lot of travelling in my time, it has taken me a while to adjust to being able to stay in one place for any length of time. Though I found that once I felt at home in a place it got a lot easier, perhaps it will be the same for you, once you settle into Cour Des Miracles you might be able to slow down. Where about was the castle that you visited?" The dark Aedile asked, smiling at the younger girl, she had never seen the castle after all, it piqued her curiosity, it might be a good place to visit when the sable female had some time to go wandering and exploring once again. The dark female's ears turned to catch the sound of the girl's voice once again, smiling as she asked what her playing was if it were not perfect; Soran was rather grateful for her ebony fur at this moment, it hid the blush, the warming in her cheeks at what seemed to be yet another compliment. She smiled at the girl.
"That is very nice of you to say so, I still have a lot of practice to do before my playing is perfect. Humans practiced for many many years before they were considered very good at what they did. I cannot imagine what it must have sounded like, it must have been wonderful." The lady replied, smiling at the younger girl; what she had said was true, she could barely imagine what it must have sounded like, a whole orchestra together with those other instruments, those strange stringed ones and many other instruments as well.

So flute playing could sound even better! Terra was impressed by the idea. If this small piece of music had sounded like the wind had began to sing, what would it sound like when it was even better? Grasping at the idea Terra imagined the wind, voice soft and alluring, beckoning to her. It was pretty good, though probably not what the flute would actually sound like. The bit Terra had heard was very beautiful, but she couldn't picture it differently. That would change with time though, if she heard the instrument be played more.

The castle's south of Cour des Miracles. It's pretty rocky and overgrown. I'm not sure what humans used it as, I think it might be a training ground for soldiers. Her feeble explanation was the only way Terra could imagine anyone wanting to live inside cold stone. She knew about clothes now, but beds were still fairly new to her. As far as she was concerned the mattress she slept inside was a lucky find, rather like a den dug out with dirt. It was nice and warm, but blankets had never occurred to her.

Do you still travel? The wolf was old, but if she still got around Terra would love to travel with her. the sights Soran must have seen intrigued her. The wolf was so wise. The knowledge Terra could gain from her was vast. In just a short span she'd already learned about the flute, and that there were instruments that could create that kind of beauty.

Sorry for the wait on this! It has been a bit of a hectic week here.

The ebony pelted great grandmother watched the girl as she looked at the instrument. Soran was perhaps a very accomplished player of the instrument, but she had found music that she could not believe could be played, she had seen scores of music that had been so complex that they obviously required more than one flutist, more than one member of an orchestra to play, the dark female had always been sure that together that music must have sounded wonderful, but she had never found anyone that would be able to play with her, it was a shame, she would have liked to have created music that seemed to have so much complex beauty. The tall female watched as the girl seemed lost in thought, perhaps she was imagining what the music would sound like, the dark female herself often tried to imagine what it must sound like as well, she thought that it must have sounded like what she heard whenever she saw when she saw Deuce; the pure heart song of joy whenever she saw her pale mate. It was like an angel's choir when she saw the female, that must be what the music would sound like when everyone played the pieces together. The ebony Aedile smiled at the younger girl as she watched her thinking, then the female spoke, her lips curling into an easy smile as she did so, her ears turning to listen to what she was saying. The female said that the castle seemed to be something of a training ground for human soldiers, the dark female nodded, that sounded about right, after all many humans lived in castles and when they had moved out they often changed into places where soldiers trained, where they practiced away from others, so that they could be completely focused on what they were planning, what they were required to do.
"I see, that sounds rather interesting, perhaps you could show it to me sometimes, I would like to see it, old human buildings have some wonderful hidden treasures, I like them; although I find it rather strange, thinking that we are treading the same floors that they had walked along, so, so long ago." The female replied, still smiling at the younger girl.

It was true that the ebony female was fascinated by old human buildings, she had a great fondness for her own home, the grand manor house that stood in the centre of the dreamer's home lands, it was an impressive building, towering high into the sky, providing a warm shelter for those who cared to stay there; it was also filled with many hidden treasures, things that had been left from when the humans had resided there; a wolf could find many useful tools if they cared to look. The young coy wolf asked if she still travelled and the female paused for a moment, musing over the idea, although she now had a home, a home where she felt safe and useful she supposed that she did still have a wanderlust. After all she travelled north often to see her pale daughter, but that was not the only reason, sometimes the female simply wandered to the north just for the sake of wandering.
"I suppose that I do still travel every now and again, I often go North and visit a pack there, and see a few friends that I made there. How about you? Have you ever travelled to the north of the lands?" The lady asked, smiling at the younger female as she did so, brushing a strand of mane from her face as she did so. She was interested in what the young female had seen on her travels, it was always nice to meet someone with a similar habit for having wandering feet, a lust for travel, often they had some of the most interesting stories to tell.

OOC: I feel horrible at writing compared to you! My posts are so short!

Terra grinned up at Soran. I haven't actually been north yet. I'm planning on it, but for now my hands are full just learning the area around my pack! The pull to travel was still there though, and Terra had no doubts that soon she would be well versed in all the packs in the land. It was in her nature to push, and continually learn. Hearing about Soran traveling up north lit a spark in Terra's heart, burning with the wish to see what Soran had seen. No matter how rough the terrain, Terra would push herself. Her paws were well callused from travel, so sharp stones and broken paths wouldn't slow her down. She was free to go wherever her heart wished.

Calming down from the thought Terra looked back up at the older wolf. I'd love to show you the castle. Maybe you could show me the pack that's further north? A bargain's a bargain. If she showed Soran the castle it was only fair in Terra's mind that Soran would show her something special as well. Meeting more of the old wolf's family would be a treat, if they shared the same traits as her. Even if they didn't Terra loved meeting new people. The only worry would be the fact that Terra couldn't cause trouble. She didn't want to concern the old wolf, so bothering her family was definitely out of the picture. That meant no stealing as well. Terra sighed to herself, remembering the feel of success as she took Dresden's dagger. She'd returned it, of course, and learned a couple things about fighting with a dagger on top of that.

Oh no, you write wonderfully as well, I am just a rambler, you manage to get lovely posts into nice compact writing Smile

The sable Aedile had travelled all over in the past, she had been all over the lands here, along with the old lands; the lands that had burned in the terrible fire. She had been further afield as well, she had always been a wanderer, but that seemed to be something that ran in her blood, her children were also wanderers, only her youngest litter lived within the lands, the rest had travelled from their birthplace to explore new lands, as had two of the dark lady's grandchildren. It seemed to be something that she had passed along in her genes, a kind of restlessness that could not be quenched unless one's feet were moving, unless one seemed to be going somewhere. Soran herself had always found that her feet took her wherever she needed to be, even if that was not where she had been planning on going, nor indeed wanting to go. That was how she had ended up back here, she had not really intended to return, the lands were littered with terribly painful memories for the dark Aedile, memories that she had tried to squash and force to the back of her mind over and over again; alas often she had found that they would not be forced out of her mind. But still she had begun to wander without really thinking on it and her feet had found their way back here; well firstly they had taken her to where she needed to be, the old lands, her old home, they had taken her to the graves of her eldest children and her dear friend, she had sat beside them and mourned, mourning as she had never allowed herself to do before; somehow this had reminded her that she was squandering the gift that she had been given, living healthy children and grandchildren, it had made her realise that her work, her life here was not done. When the ebony pelted female had arrived she had found that her work here was indeed far from done and she had immersed herself in making amends and beginning to patch her family back together; there had been a time when she could not have dreamed of coming back here, but now... now she could not imagine being anywhere else.

The truth was that the sable female had indeed remade her life here and it was wonderful, her grandchildren were beginning to warm to her once again, she had discovered that she had great grandchildren as well, she had found her place within a pack again and best of all she had opened her bedroom door on the morning of her eighth birthday to discover her former mate standing there, the pair had easily fallen back into their old life and now they were making up for lost time; just as in love with one another as they had always been. Here Soran felt that she had a good life, that she had a good family and that everything was falling into place; she had a good role within the pack as well, she felt that she was helping others and looking after them. Especially as she was meeting new wolves that she felt she could take under her wing as well, like young Terra who sat before her. The dark female smiled at the young girl as she proposed her idea, she nodded her ebony head as she spoke, indeed it sounded like it would be more than a fair trade.
"That sounds more than fair, yes I should like that, there are many packs to the north, although I have only been to a very few of them. When would you like to set off on this expedition?" Soran asked the younger girl, still smiling at her.
"Tell me Terra, why did you leave your old home, if you do not mind me asking?" The sable female added, wondering suddenly why a girl who seemed to friendly and pleasant had chosen to leave a home and come here. Not that friendly and pleasant wolves did not come here, Soran was just wondering why it was that she had left what must have been a happy home, it must have been to create such a nice young wolf.

OOC I has a table!

Traveling with another person was a complete treat for Terra. She'd spent so long alone, and sharing what she saw with someone else would be nice. She wagged her tail at the thought of the expedition. How about after winter sets in? I don't want to leave my pack until it's set for the coming snow.Terra looked up at the older female, unable to keep the grin off her face. If this kept up she'd be feeling sore! Soran seemed to prefer her optime form as well, so Terra would be getting a lot of practice in this form. Details of the trip skimmed through her mind. The castle would be the first stop, though she wouldn't show Soran the den that Terra had given to Augustus. After that they could travel north, acquainting herself with the various packs. That way if she got kicked out of her pack she'd have somewhere to go, not that she was planning to do anything that would lead to that.

Soran's next question was more difficult for her. Leaving the home she'd loved had been painful, and she didn't have any friends that supported her. The customs were rather strange, and she didn't know many of the seemingly basic things the other canines did. It was hard. My pack didn't have any luperci in it. When I shifted the first time it was a complete shock. I couldn't stay after that. The balance wouldn't work. No one would be able to challenge me, and that was wrong. I had to leave. Not for the first time Terra imagined what her life would have been like if she stayed. The honest truth of the matter was that all the coyotes took advantage of what they had to be the best. It wasn't cruel, it was survival. Leaders couldn't be weak, and only practice would allow them to develop the skills they needed. If she did try to stay she'd be forced to rule the pack, or be shunned for not using her abilities, letting it become a weakness instead of a strength.

Sorry for the wait on this dear! It's all been rather hectic and strange at the moment. And yes! That's a rather lovely table indeed Smile

The sable female watched the young girl with careful eyes, she seemed nice enough and as she was a member of Cour des Miracles so in Soran's eyes she could be trusted. The dark female reached out a hand and took the flute from the young half coyote, she turned the silver tube over and over in her hand as she watched the young girl, smiling at her a little as she did so. The dark female smiled at the younger girl, the idea of travelling with her would have been more than pleasant, yes indeed, it sounded like it would be very nice indeed, it seemed that the coywolf would be a very good guide for the area around Cour des Miracles and Soran wanted to explore those areas more, especially now that her great granddaughter was warming to her, she wanted to know the lands better so that she could find faster routes to go and see her family. The sable Aedile lover her grandson and her great grandchildren dearly and anything that might allow her to be closer to them would be wonderful. She smiled as the young female said that she would like to travel in the Winter, that she didn't want to leave her pack until she was certain that they would be ready for the upcoming icy month. Soran had lived through many winters, both here and in other lands, she knew what was coming, times would be hard and they would also be very cold, the Nova Scotian winters were usually quite harsh, apparently there had been a fierce snowstorm last year, Soran wondered if the young female had seen a winter like it, she wondered if she would be ready for what was coming. The ebony Aedile was pleased that the smaller female seemed to care so deeply about her pack, wanting to make sure that the pack would be ready for the winter before she went on any trip. The truth was that the pair of wolves would be away for some time if they were to make a proper tour of the northern lands, it was a long walk to get there after all, let alone the time that they might spend visiting other packs and potentially making friends.
"That sounds like a very good plan, it will be a long walk to the northern packs, several days at least, we can make a proper tour of it. So it will perhaps be sensible to make sure that the packs would be ready for the winter before we go, yes, that will be for the best." The ebony female replied, thinking over her own pack, yes she would need to make sure that they were ready for the harsh winter before she left. She had responsibilities after all, she needed to look after them.

She smiled at the younger girl again then, she seemed like a kind and thoughtful soul, Soran had to admit that she was looking forward to their little outing, she could imagine that this girl would be a rather wonderful travelling companion. She listened as the girl told her tale about why she had left her old pack, there seemed to be a trace of sadness in her voice, it all seemed a shame, Soran knew what it was like to be shunned for having something no one else did, for the dark female it had been her ebony pelt, it seemed that sometimes the wondrous gift of shifting could also be a curse.
"I see, that sounds like it must have been very hard for you. Did you have no idea that you had Luperci blood then? Was your pack very traditional, fighting for ranks and the like?" The ebony pelted female asked, her tone was very soft, she felt bad for this poor girl, it seemed that they had a lot in common, if only it had been something happier rather than something which had caused so much sorrow. The Alpha of Soran's birth pack, her father had been a psychotic, he hated all those who had a black pelt, when Soran had been born her had killed her mother simply for carrying her in her womb, he had attempted to end the Aedile's own life time and time again. Luckily he had failed, but even though he was now dead, even though the sable female was safe from his tyranny, his evil, the burden of the lies he had told her all of her life; his hatred for her had followed her for many years. It had not been long since the sable female had realised that she was not the evil, vile creature that he claimed she had been. It had taken her a long time, but finally she was free of his burden and she was happier than she had been in a long time.

So they would take some days to travel through the northern lands. It was going to be quite exciting, though she still had no idea about the exact time when they would head out. Terra's ears perked at Soran's words. They contained a trace of sympathy in them, which she thought was odd. Terra had been very happy with her childhood. Pain only came after the shift, and that wasn't from her pack, but from the struggle to survive on her own. No I didn't have a clue what I was. My scent was attributed to my wolf blood. There's been hybrids, but they're not common. Wolves were more likely to drive us off than mate with us. It was a simple truth in her mind. Wolves and coyotes were different, so there would be conflict.

Being a hybrid meant she had more freedom in that sense. Terra could easily cross the boundaries between wolves and coyotes, understanding both sides. This didn't lead her to feel isolated though. Instead it was a gift. Growing up where curiosity and tricks were emphasized had allowed her to see it that way. I never thought about it being traditional or not, but there was fighting for ranks. It didn't happen often though. Her pack had been her entire world back then. Terra had vaguely understood that there were those that were different, but she'd been too young to fully grasp it. Ranks hadn't bothered her either, due to the lax nature of the pack. All of them followed the motto of 'do it if you can get away with it'. Even those higher ranked were victims of the games the younger ones played.

Sorry for the wait on this hun! I have been super busy over this last week!

The ebony pelted female smiled as she thought on the adventures that the pair might have when they would embark upon their journey to the Northern lands. The jet Aedile had always enjoyed travelling, she had always had a wanderlust, the idea of visiting the packs to the north of their own homes stirred the old feelings of excitement, she was looking forward to going to the north once again; partially for the travel aspect and partially because she had many loved ones in those packs that she would be able to visit. Her eldest daughter, Naniko was the leader of Anathema, it would be good to visit her, after all it would be Soran's youngest adopted grandchildren's first winter, she had a feeling that her pale daughter might need help with the three boys as they discovered snow. Also in Ichika Na Ho-en was her stepson, it would be good to see the young grey male again, to see if he had managed to overcome his stutter, also it would be a good chance for the sable female to tell him about his mother, the chances were that he had not seen her nor heard the news that his mother and the Aedile were back together and very much in love once more. That was one of the troubles of living so far away from all of the rest of his family, the chances were that the silver male would not have heard much news of the lands, the dark female had not had a chance to travel to see him and the chances were that his mother, the pale female, had not managed to travel to see him either. For a moment the charcoal female felt a pang of guilt, she had been neglecting him, she had been to see her own daughter but had not managed to travel the short distance to see her mate's son, this was something that would have to be remedied, perhaps when Terra and herself adventured towards the north then she would be able to stop and see him, to make sure that he was safe and well. Soran smiled at the younger female as the potential of seeing family members that now lived so far away stirred the old excitement in her once again.

The girl began to speak, explaining that her father had been a wolf, that made her mother a coyote, she said that they had assumed that the difference in her scent had been from her wolven father. What she said after that made the dark female raise her eyebrows in surprise, saying that wolves were more likely to drive them off than mate with them, Soran had never thought of her race as being the aggressors in a fight; having too many painful memories of fighting with the Inferni coyotes and seeing their cruelty towards wolves first hand. She had always thought of the coyotes as the aggressive, bad enemy, it had never occurred to her that the coyotes saw the wolves in the same light, it was a sudden shock to the sable dreamer. She nodded as the girl spoke, her face softening a little, her eyes sad as she realised that perhaps her hate was unfounded, perhaps the wolves and coyotes were not so different after all. The dark female was still untrusting of coyotes, she assumed that she would always feel that way, the injuries were too evident, the emotional scars still ran too deep for the ebony woman to forgive completely, although the notion gave her the idea that perhaps she would be able to forgive them one day.
"I had never thought of the coyotes as seeing the wolves as the enemy, the aggressors. Here it has always been the other way, the coyote pack here are rather cruel and vicious, they drove my old pack off of their pack lands. I had never thought that a coyote pack would be any different, it is nice to know that some are different. I am sorry to hear that you had troubles with wolves, did you often have problems with them in your pack then?" The motherly sable female asked, watching the girl with careful green eyes; this conversation had brought many revelations for the ebony pelted female, it seemed that one never stopped learning, no matter how old you were. The girl spoke again and Soran's ears perked up to catch the sound, wanting to see what else the young girl had to say on the subject of her old pack. It seemed that perhaps they were not that different from the packs of these lands, fights still occurred but not very frequently, that was how it was here, sometimes wolves would fight for rank, but it was a rare happening, somehow it seemed that the packs here had grown out of it in a way.
"I see, did anyone want your rank then? Is that why they worried? Or were they scared that you would forcibly take leadership of the pack?" Soran asked, looking the hybrid over as she said that, the truth was that she could not imagine the young female taking anything by force, she seemed a sweet and caring soul.

Terra chuckled at Soran's words. I wouldn't say they were the aggressors. They just didn't like scavengers. Or thieves. She'd grown up on tales of thieving raids where coyotes would outsmart their neighbors and return with a glorious prize. The truth of the matter was there was no true anger on either side of the packs. Hybrids were rare due to the negative interactions, but just as often they'd pass each other in peace, the wolves not worried about the coyotes scavenging the food and the coyotes not starving. Terra had even had a chance to play with a wolf pup once, though they'd both gotten in trouble for it.

Her ears drooped at Soran's next words. I didn't tell anyone. I left as soon as I shifted. Her voice was low, hesitant to speak. Terra knew she could have tried to hide what she was, but it wasn't in her nature. She would have told her pack, forcing the path that Soran described. The only choice was to leave before that happened, too strong willed to struggle against her inner self.

So sorry for the wait on this! I have had no internet for ages and then I have been trying to get things sorted for when Soran joins New Dawn, I hope you've had a lovely Christmas.

Soran nodded as the young coywolf explained that the wolves had not been aggressive towards the coyotes, that they simply did not like scavengers, that made sense, any wolf would not like others roaming around taking food that in their mind belonged to them. Soran did not really think that all coyotes were scavengers, but perhaps she was wrong, perhaps that was why the Infernian's had attacked Syemv all of those years ago, perhaps they had thought that there would be tastier morsels to gather in the pirate's lands. Maybe not of course, maybe they were simply aggressive, Hollow had been there after all, he was very good at twisting things to cause tension, to make wolves hate one another, perhaps whispering enough poisonous words in the coyote's ears had been the trigger for all of the violence that had happened. In that case the coyotes had certainly been aggressive, they had been merciless and it had been a dreadful time for the pirate pack, they had lost their home, loved ones and almost all of their possessions, it was not hard to see why Soran was distrustful of coyotes, she could never quite bring herself to forgive Inferni for its misdeeds against her and those she cared for. She looked at the young female, a small forced smile crossing her lips.
"I hope that they were not too cruel to you, why did your pack scavenge, surely there were enough of you to hunt?" The lady asked, her smile becoming more relaxed as her curiosity bubbled to the surface once more.

Soran was sure that this girl would be very good travelling company, in fact she was quite looking forward to the journey that they would be taking together should everything go to plan. She smiled again as she thought on it, it seemed that she would have some very good stories to share, perhaps the pair would be able to keep one another entertained for a long time, telling one another of their adventures and journeys, they had both travelled a long way, surely there would be many good tales to tell. The girl then explained that she had never told anyone that she could shift, that she had simply run away as soon as she had discovered that she could, a small wave of sadness for the girl washed over the dark female, how awful it must have been to feel stuck in a situation like that. Her ears dropped with sadness a little for the girl, to feel that she could not confide in anyone must have been terrible for her.
"Why did you not tell anyone Terra? Were you sure that they would not understand? Sometimes wolves... and coyotes alike can surprise you. What would have happened if they had not been able to handle the news well?" Soran asked, bubbling with questions, feeling sad for the young girl.

"Speech!"

Terra laughed softly at Soran's next question. Cruel? They didn't have a chance to be. We were good at what we did. As for needing to, I don't know. I know my pack was large, making it difficult to keep fed. I know that we didn't always work together as a group. But I was too young to know much else. Thieving and scavenging was what I grew up with. I didn't know about hunting until I was about four months old, and even then I only went on the one hunt with the pack, working to bring a moose down. It was more of just what we were: tricksters.

Terra wouldn't apologize for this light hearted way of viewing other people's properties. It was what she was, a thief and a scoundrel. Terra had been happy living that life, and wouldn't give it up simply to please others. Soran's next question though, was a lot harder. Deciding to dodge the question Terra turned the question around. I wasn't exactly thinking. Too young. What were you doing when you first changed? Terra had no problems talking about why she left the pack. The feelings attached though were a lot harder. Raised as a liar telling her feelings were difficult, despite the tell tale signs her body gave off without conscious thought.
