1. “Get outta here! We don' wan' you here! Get!” The voice of the pale grey wolf rang out in the early morning air. Layla jumped back, stung. She had followed the older adolescents in hope of play. Sometimes one or two would take pity on her and tussle around for a bit. But now she faced a wall of unfriendly and – for some reason – fearful eyes. “Get before we make you.” The grey wolf – the only one that had spoken so far – stepped forward menacingly, head lowered and teeth bared. Though young, Layla knew that he ment business. Fur bristling, the young female stumbled backwards, almost tripping over her own paws in her haste to retreat. “I- I just wanted -” the grey male snapped in her direction, cutting Layla's words short. The pup cowered against the cold ground, fear making her unable to move. What did I do? she wondered. The grey male, a six-month old named Aku, growled at her, the fur on his back beginning to rise. “I said leave.” A small squeak escaped Layla's mouth and she shut her eyes and turned her head away. They were gonna kill her. She knew it. Warm breath ruffled the fur on her neck. Aku's voice whispered in her ear. “You little bitch. How dare you show your devil eye here. Go back to your cave and rot there.” Then silence fell. Layla stayed curled up, frozen in fear and unable to move for what seemed like hours (but was probably only minutes) before she opened here eyes. They were gone. Turning her head so her good eye could observe the rest of the small clearing, the three month old pup gave a sigh of relief. Gone. She didn't know why they hated her. Aku especially. He hated her so bad. She knew that he wasn't the only one though. A lot of the wolves hated her. Mommas and Papas and pups, they all whispered behind her back and avoided her gaze. It hurt, sure. Layla was strong though. She could handle being alone.

2. Dalek shivered as the cold breeze bit through his fur. He didn't belong in the mountains, but really had nowhere else to go. After the fight with that male, he had had no choice but to flee the valley. The deep bite wound on his neck still stung painfully when he moved. If his choices were to be torn apart by a fox, or to freeze to death, he'd choose the latter. Not that he wanted to die, just the fact seemed inevitable.
As the sun dropped, so did the temperature. Dalek rose from his somewhat sheltered position behind a rock and shook himself. Shelter. Either he would find that, or be a fox-sicle by morning. Starting off at a slow trot, his russet fur like a flag against the grey and white of the mountain, the young male chose a direction at random and searched for anything resembling his nice comfy den at home.

A scent caught his nose, the musky scent of another fox. Curiosity sparked, and Dalek followed the scent, now moving silently so as not to alert the other. He was shivering again by the time he found the cave where the scent led him. It looked warm, but Dalek dared not intrude, especially after his last experience with a strange fox. Huddled just outside the oh-so-tempting shelter, he waited; not willing to leave the thought of warmth and companionship.

3. The lean hare nibbled on grass, constantly alert as was the way of prey animals. His long ears stuck straight up, twisting around like satellites perched on his head. His eyes were constantly surveying the sky and ground, and every couple of steps he would rise up on his large hind legs and look around. His pelt bore many small scars, trophies from fights with other bucks for mating rights. And hey - some does put up a pretty good fight too. He had some nice scars from females he had mated with. The buck paused in his chewing for a second, realising that the doe he had mated with this season would be near her birthing time by now. He wished she had let him stay and help defend the young until next breeding season, but she had wanted none of it. Ah, that doe was a fighter.

A sudden shadow flashed over him, and in a heartbeat, the buck was off. His powerful hind legs pounded at the ground, while his smaller front legs handled the steering. Hares can reach up to forty-five miles an hour, and he was a prime example of his species. He flew across the ground, dodging brush and rocks. Finally, he skidded to a stop in the shade of a protective bush, panting. Exhilaration pounded through his body - Domino loved to run.

After a few minutes, Domino carefully came out of hiding. With a wary glance at the sky, he continued with his lunch, sniffing out any edibles that the ground had to offer

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
