She was pissed off at the whole thing. How could he be dead? The thought of it seemed like a fairy tale to her, like some sort of sick joke. Rio stormed out of the cave into the night. She didn’t exactly have a plan of where she was headed, but she didn’t care. She wanted to be far away from Anathema and far away from her mother, Naniko. She just wanted to crawl up into a ball and lay there forever, despite all the bad shit he had done to her.
The night had a chill to it, but the coldness didn’t bother Rio. She couldn’t even feel it. She marched to an unknown place, whimpering quietly with her tail hung in a stiff, low position. She was uncomfortable with this subject and she didn’t know how she would live with it, let alone deal with it for right now. Her ears were forward with anger, but they also wanted to be flattened with fear and sadness. Fear because she was afraid of seeing his ghost, maybe, and sadness because of the whole situation.
She kept walking without paying much attention, and something tripped her. She fell almost flat on her face, and rolled over to crawl into a fetal position in the soft, crisp grass. She laid in that position for a good while whimpering like a pup. When she felt a little better, despite the empty hole she felt in her heart, she climbed onto a nearby rock and sat there with her knees to her chest, her arms folded on top of them with her head buried in her arms. There was an occasional jerk and a whimper, but other than that she was pretty still and quiet. She was oblivious to the world and everything around her. She was trapped in her head with all the bad thoughts and the crazy information she found out that night.
