Symera Villisca
and the rat's in the cradle

Symera was glad that the issue with Halo had been resolved. She hated thinking that the woman that she saw as mother had seen her as a burden. While she was nowhere near as talented as Halo was Symera at least had drive. She had the will of a warrior even if she didn't have flawless technique. She was still learning though. She didn't always manage to get up as early as Halo did to go training but then again Symera often spent her time scouting for stinkies to annihilate. That often left her out and arriving back at odd hours which caused her to miss training. It wasn't because she wanted to but generally because she was dead tired after tangling with a wolf. All she wanted to do was bring her battered body back to her bed and sleep. So her lack of constant training showed in marks upon her flesh. But none had been too severe just yet. Though still the injuries nudged at her mind that she should see about getting a weapon as Halo had. the least of her injuries had come from the time when she had borrowed the blade and had mostly kept the wolf at bay. But generally in the heat of the moment she was too high on adrenaline to ever notice that she had received lacerations. That tended to be noticed after she had slept off the fatigue that came immediately after the adrenaline had fled her body.

Symera had netted herself a smaller wolf sometime around midnight or so and had dragged it back with her. She dumped the body in her room and crashed upon her bed to sleep for a few hours. She was going to en up taking care of butchering it after she rested for a bit first. She wasn't as gifted as Halo was at separating fur from flesh but still she attempted it. Granted when she did it it looked like a hack job, especially when she waited until after she slept to do anything with the body. By that time the stiffness had set in and made the task difficult. Of course Symera didn't realize that this was the reason for the difficulty but simply thought it was like all things, that she just wasn't anywhere as talented as Halo was.

So after sleeping for a couple of hours Symera rolled from her blood stained bed and retrieved the cleaver that she had found within the kitchen of the manor at some earlier date. She went over to the body and used the large knife to remove the head from the body. It was something that she would deal with later. For now she had the rats to care for which meant that the head would have to be fussed with after that. She wasn't certain how this skull would look upon the borders with all the larger skulls. Maybe instead she could give it to Halo's children that she had come to think of as her siblings. After all Symera had enjoyed the hat made out of the skull, even though it ended up on the borders of Inferni, and had worn it proudly. There were ever occasions she she removed it from the border to wear it again for a short period of time before returning it. Actually that was how she carried new skulls to the border, wearing them upon her head until she got there with them. So yes, she would have to clean up the skull to give it to Oblivion and Amnesty to share as a hat. And maybe she could manage to sneak them the eyes to eat as she had done on occasions before.

With the head removed the cleaver was placed back where Symera kept it. She pulled out a hunting knife and then returned to the body of the wolf. She had made the mistake one to cut it open in her room and wasn't about to do that again. So with the knife in hand she also made to pick up the body of the wolf to carry it down to the basement. She paused at the top of the staircase, before ever going down to the main floor, to consider if she should try to sneak the pups down with her as well. When Oblivion and Amnesty were left within her care she enjoyed taking them down to see the rats and letting them help her feed the hoard by holding them up so that they could drop in chunks of meat for the rodents to devour.

Symera ended up deciding against it. For one, she didn't know if Halo was with them and two, she didn't have a spare hand to carry the young brood. So Symera ended up going to the basement alone. She yawned on the way down, still tired from the limited amount of time that she had slept but also unwilling to remain in bed all day long. She couldn't be lazy after all. It was already bad enough that she often missed training so she couldn't let the rest of the clan think that she was some lout that spent all their time lazing about in bed.

Once in the basement she placed the body of the wolf upon the floor and cut into it there, allowing for the innards to spill out onto the cement floor. The small girl used her knife to cut the entrails into smaller portions before setting it aside for the moment. She took the chopped up organs and dropped the pieces into the cages, smiling tiredly as the rats fought amongst themselves for their portions. It always delighted her to watch the rats scramble around for the treats that she dropped in with them. It had become something of a routine now. Whenever she had a new body she ended up cutting it open in the basement to first feed the guts that spilled out to the rats then undertook the task of trying to skin the wolf to get to the rest of the meat to feed to the rats, allowing the rodents to act as some sort of living garbage disposal.

The smell told her what she needed to know once she had started to descend down the stairs. Pale whiskers pulled back as she crinkled her muzzle at the indelicate odour penetrating her olfaction. Symera’s intention and purpose could not be questioned, but there were errors in her ways that Halo did not particularly approve of. The Triarii didn’t want her mansion’s floors to be fouled by reeking guts and their spilling juices. The jagged lines of the Lykoi’s teeth were visible as she entered the reeking room where equally reeking rats were stuffed in solid cages.

”You should butcher the wolf outside,” the older woman suggested in an overbearing tone, serving it cool along with a grimace of fleeting disgust. But that was what had to say about that. Slender fingers brushed against the small purse she so often carried attached to one hip, but didn’t reach to open it. Amnesty and Oblivion were somewhere upstairs taking care of themselves – or so she assumed. They were good children, and she trusted they wouldn’t get in too much trouble while she was away. The mansion was home to many, but members should have the brains to keep their doors closed so that intrigued, young minds didn’t decide to go exploring where they should not.

”You hungry, darlings?” the woman purred, scarlet eyes turning to the cage with her savage beasts. Such a shame that they were never used. Crouching beside the metal prison, she teased hungry, angry rodent snouts with playful fingertips. They would have loved to tear at her sensitivefingers, had she only allowed them to. Dinner was on its way.
