WC: 437 OOC: Set January 21st? Sound good if not i'm willing to work with it :3

It had been a couple days since Jiva had been back. His mind was elsewhere now though. He didn’t know if he fit in anymore. He didn’t think that living in Cour des Miracles was for him, even if he had so much family there.... maybe that was the reason why he didn’t want to live there. He did know he wanted to live close enough to visit, but where? There were so many packs around, it was hard to choose from. He let his paws wander as he thought. He had never really gotten used to his optime form, only used it to help shape the hair on his head, but he rarely used it for much else. He liked moving about on four feet, it just felt so natural, so he could be seen today just as his kind had started out. On his four paws. He was trotting up the mountains, not thinking of where he was heading, but making sure he kept good footing because there were parts of the mountain that were too dangerous.

Jiva had not encountered any other mountains so to him this was the most unique of the world around him. It was cold, but he was made for it being both tundra wolf and part husky, it was hard to tell he had much dog in him other than the color of his fur and the tell tale husky mask. He let the breeze stop him a few times but he continued forward to hurry along the path. Maybe he could find a decent cave up here to sleep in? He was used to living in a cave, though one that was far less natural. The cave he was born in was natural itself, but the floor and everything, it had been modified. There was a wooden floor and eve a door at the entrance of the cave, so wind didn’t come in. His mother had gotten quite cold easily. His father had modified the cave rooms to be less breezy as well, but Jiva liked the breeze. Sure it was cold at times, but that was how life was and to feel cold stone on the bottom of ones pads, well that felt great to him. He had his nose to the ground sniffing out an area, seeing if there was a possible cave nearby. It shouldn’t be too hard with mountains being the way they were and having their own natural caves. Jiva didn’t really need anything big anyway, after all he was a young bachelor who had no ties to anyone at the moment.

21st is fiiinnnne Smile

Zalen was beginning to regret how far he had strayed from the heart of the pack land on his own. He had gone out the evening before to do his usual marking rounds when he had caught the scent of something that set his fur on edge. It was clearly the scent of a big cat, and he knew it was not Noah’s little bobcat friend, which had chosen to sleep in a large tree near the den. No, this was a cougar, a danger, and when Zalen had decided to track the scent for a while he realized that it lingered here, fresh smells mixing with fading ones. A large feline predator on the pack-lands was not good news, and he knew that he had to find and chase off the cat, and make it clear that it was not welcome here. Not only was having a predator nearby dangerous for the lives of all the pack-mates, but it was also hunting here which meant it was basically stealing food from the mouth of New Dawn.

Zalen, still high from his feelings of superiority and domination as alpha, foolishly had decided to go after the cougar himself without returning to the den and asking for help from the other strong males of the pack, such as Shandom or Thoirni. It was his folly, and he was beginning to realize it, especially now that the sun was starting its downward descent in the sky, and the slowly falling snow made visibility that much harder. He was becoming nervous, for he had tracked this mountain lion all night, and now, its scent seemed to have run dry.

He was nearly about to give up, admit defeat and decide to chase another day when he came upon the bloody remains of an elk. The body was frozen but the blood fresh, and the meat was half eaten. Cautiously Zalen moved to the kill to sniff at it; it reeked of cougar. Warily he scanned the trees around him, but heard and saw nothing; he assumed that the cat had left its kill here for a later meal, which meant it would be back. If he could ambush it, maybe he stood a chance in his Optime form.

With the decision made, Zalen shifted into his two legged form and found a rocky outcropping nearby to hide behind. Once there, he hunkered down, taking some time to braid his long mane and tie it with several long blades of dried, dead grass. He waited then, silently, the only indication of his presence being the breath that rose in the air from his nostrils. He was not worried that his scent was now clearly around the carcass, for he knew that the cougar would pay it no mind. Once the cat showed itself, Zalen would mount the peak of the rock and jump down upon the feline, hopefully scaring it enough that it would not stay to fight but run off never to return.

He waited for some time before a sound came his ears. Keen apple eyes peeked through a crevice in the outcropping to see a large, and very well fed female cougar exit the tree line and saunter over to the corpse. Zalen’s ears flicked back against his head; she was large, larger than he had expected, but in this form he still outweighed her. Still, a cat’s claws and teeth were sharp, more so even then a Luperci’s, and for a moment he wasn’t sure if he would be able to take her.

But any chance to escape silently was lost when the cougar halted in its licking and gnawing of a rib bone to sniff the air, and then her golden eyes trained themselves directly on his outcropping. He ducked low, hoping she could not see him, but it was of no use, she knew he was there. Slowly, crouching low like felines did when they stalked, she started slowly towards the outcropping. This was his only chance and it was do or die now. Quickly, Zalen clambered to the top of the rock, his hackles, tail and ears erect, making him look a large as possible. He opened his mouth wide, white teeth gleaming as he let forth a deep and dangerous snarl at the large cat.

For a moment he felt that his threat display might work, as the cougar took several steps back and crouched as if it was planning to spring away. But then it sized him up, and made the decision that it could take him, and it returned with a vicious threat display of its own, letting loose that classic cougar call. So they would have to fight then. Zalen let forth a quick but loud howl before he sprung downwards towards her.

OOC: Jiva will jump right in :3

As the sun got lower Jiva started to find his cave searching was going to be cut short and he would just have to sleep in the open. Jiva didn’t really mind that. He had done it before and would do it again, though a cozy cave would have been nice for the night. He liked staying warm and secure, knowing he was hidden from other possible predators. He moved slowly through the mountains, knowing how treacherous they could be. He had smelled a cougar not long ago so he had skirted away from it, knowing any caves would be occupied by one. Just as he was about to give up the search he found one. And it was nice and small too. Moving around the outside of the cave, he held his nose to the ground to make sure it had not been occupied recently. It seemed its last recent visitor had been a fox, but the scent was so old. It might have been used as a nesting for a mother or something. In either case he moved into the cave. This would be his temporary home for now. Making a few scratching motions at the ground he let his scent be known. This was his cave until he decided when he would be leaving.

That was when he heard it. The cry of a cougar, then.... the unmistakable howl of a wolf. This was a wolf in need, and Jiva got up, his heart thumbing. The other wolf was fighting a cougar? He listened for calls of the wolve’s companions, but there was none. Jiva took no time to waste and headed straight for the sounds. His legs pumped, and he hoped he wasn’t too late. He had after all kept away from the scent of a cougar not too long ago. The battle had already started when he came to the scene, and he growled menacingly at the cougar, waiting for a good time to jump in. He was willing to help out another wolf, even a stranger, against these big beasts, who had shown nothing but malice towards wolf kind since the beginning of time.

You can PP the cougar.

Zalen collided with the cougar as if it was made out of stone instead of fur and muscles. He dug claws in but the cougar immediately shook him off like he was nothing more than some annoying insect. Zalen landed on his feet a ways away and the two squared off with each other, snarls and hisses melting together into the sounds of war. Zalen charged again, but the cougar dodged him easily, feline reflexes much more advanced than his own. She then swiped at him, and he jerked away, her claws barely missing the fur on his chest. He countered with a swipe of his own, and managed to slap the cat hard on the withers before it jumped away.

The cougar then attacked more ferociously, meant on making this conflict come to an end quickly, she jumped at him, long thick tail waving behind her like a banner. She swiped at his legs and he lost his footing, falling to the ground, and her paws came down towards his face. He rolled away just in time, the snow attaching to his black fur in clumps, weighing him down. He pounced, jaws attaching to her foreleg before shaking. She screeched at threw a blow on his back and it was like being hit by a bull. The wind was knocked from him as he was sent flying back into the paws of another wolf.

He looked up at the newly arrived male with surprise, but with his eyes pleaded, Help! He said hoarsely, before turning to face the cougar again. It was already coming towards the two. Zalen dodge again and nipped at the cougars flank, canines grazing it's flesh and tearing a wound. The cougar let out a snake like hiss and turned to him again to swipe.

OOC: Lol he's not exactly skilled hehe

Jiva had got there in the midst of the fight and it was a whir of blows between wolf and cougar, and Jiva couldn’t find a good time to just jump in. That was until the black male was thrown into him and the man pleaded. How could Jiva say no to such things so as Zalen got up and went after the cougar Jiva waited for her back to be to him, to be entirely distracted and that took seconds as Zalen took a bite out of her flank, Jiva inexpertly growled and ran at the cougars face, trying to go for her neck, but he missed and got her other flank, but at least it was something, and they had teamed up on the creature. Seeing as Jiva was the last to attack it, and quite close, the cougar lashed out at Jiva, who nearly slipped and fell off the steep landing. His heart raced as he recovered this mistake and he counter attacked the beast, trying to find a soft spot on her body, but most of her was pure muscle, there were few soft spots and Jiva only knew that of the prey he killed, not the skilled hunters that haunted the forested mountainous areas. Jiva took his chance at her throat again, but she only defended it, with a far quicker and more agile attack that left a scratch on his nose, yelping he lept pack. He wasn’t the best wolf to come into play but he was a distraction nonetheless, he just hope he would live to tell the tale. The cat lunged at him, dropping him to the ground, she was close to grabbing his face, as he moved to cover his neck, his teeth bared, he instinctively pushed at the cat with his back legs. He caught her midriff which was by far the most squishiest part of her, and kicked her off, or tried to, she was strong and not near a weakling.

OOC.

The male with the mismatched eyes did not miss a beat, though it was obvious he was young and not as skilled in the fight as Zalen might have hoped. Luckily, his clumsy attacks managed to distract the cat enough that it did not rip the ebon Alpha to shreds. Zalen could tell the cougar was becoming desperate, not because it felt that the new wolf had added much more of a threat but because it was getting tired and annoyed. Zalen knew that it’s attacks would be more vicious now as it would seek to destroy them both, in turn he would have to be just as vicious.

Finally a chance revealed itself when the cougar turned her full attention on the newcomer, knocking him to the ground. Zalen raised himself up onto his back legs, reaching is full height, and as the small male managed to push her off him Zalen caught when she hit the ground. Like a snake one of his large paws darted out and enclosed her about the throat, and with all his might he lifted the cat up. He barely could do so, for she was heavy, and nearly stood at his height would she have been able to shift as he. His claws dug into the flesh of her throat, sending out streams of crimson down onto her chest. She wheezed out a hiss, but her eyes were frightened. He opened his mouth and let forth a beastly roar into her face, one that both howl, both scream, a sound that only a Luperci could make.

She got the hint, for when he threw her off the sharp embankment as she had done to the male moments before, she quickly found her footing and ran full sprint away from the two of them, in the direction of the boarders. Zalen made sure to make chase for a moment, but then stopped. Exhausted he collapsed to the ground, a hand going to the most injured part of him, his chest, which he believed must have been bruised by the force of her blows. Luckily it was nothing serious. Then, turning to look at the male, he spoke, Thank you my friend, I don’t know why I thought I could take her on my own. He then laid for a few moments, panting and trying to regain himself.

Once he did though, he got back onto his four paws in a dominant stance, which was quite effective in Optime form due to his size, therefore he did not put much effort on it, I am Zalen Damaichu and you are on my pack lands. I cannot thank you enough for your service to me and my pack mates. Tell me brother, what is your name, and is there any way I can repay you in kind?

Jiva was thankful for the black male, for alone he couldn’t do this alone, and he watched in awe as he rolled back onto his feet of the strong man. He was as strong, if not stronger than his father, it was hard to tell without Niro there, but he doubted even his dad would take on a cougar, though he did try to take on a full grown moose at one time, losing his pinky in the end. Panting he watched as the dark male chased her for a short while then fell down. Jiva hurried over to him to see if there were any injuries, showing that he was in no way of authority, bending lower than Zalen. He still had his innate instincts, and they were telling him it was best to use them.

“It isn’t a problem, I would never leave another to fend for themselves against those beasts.”

He said after eyeing him, to see if there were any external injuries. There seemed to be none though the man was clutching at his chest. Jiva sat down on his haunches catching his breath, listening to the introduction. His heart sank to his feet when he heard he had in fact moved past the borders of a pack, this man’s pack of all things.

“Jiva Takekuro, and I do apologize, I didn’t think about moving on your lands, if you would allow me to leave without punishment, that’s all i can ask for.”

Jiva knew how territorial his fellow wolves were, and he wasn’t sure how strict this man was, but he looked like he could be offended with the wrong words. Then he hesitated.

“There was no pack here when I left, what is it’s name? And can you tell me about it?”

Jiva asked thinking just a little information would suffice, then he would find his temporary home. He was most concerned about being over the borders but the call of a wolf in need seemed far more important until now.

HOMG DONE WITH SSWM!!! Aaaand this thread XD

The man, despite Zalen’s exhaustion and minor injuries, still genuflected to Zalen, and the Alpha greatly appreciated the gesture. He righted himself then, but continued to sit, as the male introduced himself as Jiva Takekuro, Takekuro? As in, Niro Takekuro? Zalen asked. It was amazing that he had even remembered the name, but Orin had arrived several days prior, and she had stirred up the memory of the Mohawk sporting bird man. How funny it would be that another relative of his had arrived in New Dawn just in the knick of time. And then, Jiva nodded in the affirmative, and said that Niro was in fact his father. Zalen smiled, Ah, I met your father many moon’s ago, he was a fine man of the Court. It seemed as if all members of that family eventually wound up here, if not for a short amount of time.

Zalen nodded as Jiva explained that he hadn’t known of another pack’s existence here, Not a surprise, we have only been here for about a moon’s turn. The pack is called New Dawn, and it is led by myself and my mate. If you wish to join us, I would have you in an instant, for despite the dog in you, you are strong. Zalen hoped he wouldn’t offend the young man by calling him a dog, but the markings about his eyes were undeniable. Still, he looked more wolf than anything else, and so Zalen accepted him as a brother.

Zalen then stood, but only on all four legs rather than two, as this form afforded, But I cannot accept you now, I must return to the heart of our land. Please, consider my offer, and then come back at another time. Then, Zalen walked over to the boy and nuzzled his large dark head into the boys fur, Thank you again, Jiva. And with a kind smile Zalen turned and ran off into the woods, trying not to show the limp in his gait.
