And so they met

OOC: Dated: 10th January

It had been almost a month since Alonso had last seen Kiara. Ever since she had run away he had hung around the area surrounding Drifter’s Bay more often, hoping to meet her again. Her timely warning about the Salsolans had most probably saved his life and he had been careful not to make the same mistake again. He had spent the last few weeks finding out all he could about Nova Scotia and was now much more aware on the history of the area and its wolves.

It was a beautiful winter’s morning when Alonso’s hunting brought him near Ichika no Ho-en. What first alerted him to the fact that he was nearing the territory was the smell of countless wolves in the area. As he thought back to the roughly drawn picture in the sand, a Luperci’s way of introducing him to Nova Scotia, he realized he was near Ichika no Ho-en’s territory. He could smell it in the air now, the woody smell of the land that he had previously smelt on Kiara. He sniffed his way around carefully, taking care not to accidently cross the border that he could smell. After a while, at a point he thought that the smell of Kiara was the strongest, he settled about ten feet away from the border waiting in the hope that she might pass by as she left the territory. A part of him realized the futility of the exercise, she might leave the territory today or not for weeks. But Alonso had been travelling for days and had yet to meet someone as friendly as Kiara. As he waited, he tipped his head back and howled – calling out to her and the people of her pack.

Every day the arctic wolf's strength was growing, and every day the terrible wounds were healing. Yet she was still weak and her stamina had almost died. She had thought her wounds had been healing wonderfully until her visit to Noah and his pack New Dawn. Even though the pack was so close to Ichika, the hike had worn on her reserves and had left her exhausted by the end of the day. It was then that Kiara had decided to train her body, to get her stamina and power back. She had always been proud of her prowess, but Amy's attack had left her crippled and weak. Kiara would not let herself live like that any longer. So she ran. She ran through Trenton and along the highway, letting the human road take her West and towards the boarder.

Her small trip started even before the sun rose. With the setting moon to guide her path, she set out from the safety of her home. Kiara had to stop often to get her breath, to eat the snow and lay down panting on the ground. Her wounds ached when she ran, the red scars complaining as they stretched with each bound. Luckily none of them opened. Sometimes the highway was broken and she would have to take a detour around it. By the time she approached the boarders, the sun was up and the morning had started. The bright rays made the snow almost painful to look at but Kiara was used to it. When the sun did shine in the winter it would often cause wolves to go temporarily blind. Such things didn't bother the arctic wolf so she kept running.

It was then that Kiara heard the familiar call. The voice of Alonso sounded over Ichika and Kiara's heart pounded. She saw him the day before her attack and it was her last carefree meeting. The snow wolf immediately turned towards the origin of the howl and raced towards her forgotten friend. In a few minutes the grey and red male came into being, his slightly larger form sitting in the snow. Kiara bounded towards him, tail waving excitedly in the air. "Namaste Alonso!" Kiara rushed at him and rolled into the snow at his feet, her tail wagging happily and a grin spread across her face and her paws batted playfully at his chest. She reached up to lick his muzzle in a friendly greeting, the wound on her neck aching a little. She had missed the male.

Alonso had just begun to give up hope when he smelt a familiar scent coming in his direction. The scent was quickly followed by the wolf itself as Kiara bounded towards him tail wagging in the air. Alonso brightened automatically. She was just so happy to see him that he forgot all about the cold and his long wait at the border. He dashed towards her and stopped just as she rolled over in the snow in front of him and licked him. He was just about to return her greeting with equal fervor when he noticed a red spiral scar on her belly. He just managed to stop himself jumping on her and stepped back a couple of paces from Kiara. He moved carefully towards the wound and sniffed it, trying to discern the nature and extent of the wound. It was all new to him, this feeling of worry at seeing how hurt she was, the anger against the Luperci that did it. He unconsciously nuzzled the wound with his nose and gave it a tentative lick. He immediately realized what he was doing and backed away hurriedly incase she misinterpreted his actions.

“Lo siento... I mean… I am sorry. I didn’t mean to…” Alonso finally stopped muttering incoherently and managed to compose himself a little. “What happened to you?” he asked worriedly. As he moved back and took in her appearance completely he noticed two more scars around her neck and shoulder blade. It looked she had been in a fight with a knife and had definitely not come off the better. “She could be a Luperci now” thought Alonso for a minute but he quickly put the worrying thought out of his mind as he sat back with his ears flopped down, waiting for Kiara to respond.

Even though they had only met once, Kiara really had grown to like the multi-colored male. Unlike her solid white body, his fur coat had a variety of colors ranging from red to brown to grey. Overall, he was very handsome. Just as she enthusiastically ran towards him, he too ran towards her. As Kiara licked his muzzle she could see and feel the males body coil and get ready to pounce. For a moment, worry flashed through her face as her wounds came to mind. Luckily Alonso managed to stop himself in time. The happiness in his face disappeared as he caught sight of her scars and stepped back a few paces. The snow wolf held still, not sure how to react as a mixture of emotions flooded her mind. She felt shame, sadness, and fear. She was ashamed that he saw her with such terrible scars, that she had been injured so. She was saddened by his reaction to them and was afraid that he might leave because he was disgusted by her.

Her worries decreased a little as Alonso came back and tentatively sniffed at her wounds and licked the scar on her belly. Kiara was happy to see that he was worried about her and his lick sent shivers down her spin and made her heart race. As Alonso back away again the white wolf rolled over onto her belly. Her tail didn't shake, and her expression was sad. Kiara listened to his apologies, but found herself thinking they weren't needed. She liked the attention, although she was slightly confused by the feeling. However, Alonso's question brought back memories of her attack and she shivered a little as they flashed through her mind. "I got attacked by a yellow dog." Kiara looked at Alonso and saw the question in his eyes. Was she infected? "Oh, ah... don't worry. She used a knife so I wasn't infected.

Kiara stood and plodded through the snow to the mexican male's side. She sat down and gave him a quick lick on the cheek, trying to reassure him that she was okay. "I'm fine really. As if to make her point she tried to push against him with her shoulder. It was meant to be a playful nudge, although it wasn't nearly as vigorous as her last playful attack had been nearly a month ago. Kiara was tired and she hurt a little.

OOC: The little girl trying to play with the big boys Tongue

Alonso gave a little grin as Kiara gave him a playful nudge. Here she was, all hurt and beaten up, and she was still trying to prove what a big, bad wolf she was. It was one of the many things he loved about her. ‘Loved?’ The word took him surprise. Sure he thought Kiara was fun and he did love spending time with her. But the idea of love was still a foreign concept to him. He had loved his family yes… and his pack mates… and his friends. But this; this was a completely new feeling. It made him feel protective, like he could fight anyone and anything to keep her safe. It made him worry; how many more wounds did she have, was she in a lot of pain? He shook himself, trying to clear his head of all its confusing thoughts, and turned back towards her.

“Are you sure you’re okay? Does it hurt?” he asked as he nuzzled her with his nose. She still looked like she wanted a game but he sat down next to her instead and nibbled her ear. Before she had a chance to answer he nudged her and spoke again. “So did you try flirting with a yellow dog and get snubbed for all your efforts?” he teased her. He tried not looking at her directly as he spoke, so as to not get distracted by her pretty sapphire eyes. He continued to hover protectively over her as he spoke and quietly nuzzled her.

Loners are rare among wolves, and if a wolf does become a loner it is normally temporary position. Kiara watched Alonso intently, her sapphire eyes filled with questions and curiosity. Who was he? Where did he come from? Why was he a loner? All these questions and more swirled through her mind. Kiara's thoughts were filled with the male before her. Alonso enthralled the snow wolf, his multicolored coat and spanish accent only adding to all of the things that made him wonderful. Kiara wondered what it be like to live with him, to become pack with such a wonderful male.

Alonso's gentle nuzzling felt great, and the way he nipped at her ear felt even better. Before she could think, Kiara softly muttered, "Feels good." Her eyes were half closed, until she realized what she said. Then Kiara's eyes snapped open and she practically jumped back. She hadn't even heard what Alonso had said, although at some level she registered his teasing tone. "Um...that is...no, I didn't mean that...I mean I did...but, it's not like that...I mean I guess it might be...but no, it's not...that's..." If she was human she would have been blushing from ear to ear. The arctic wolf's mind was in a complete state of disarray.

Slowly, Kiara walked back to Alonso. Her head was low and tail was equally so. The young female was embarrassed to say the least. Kiara nuzzled against Alonso, trying to ignore her fluttering heat. Once again, she stared up at the male with big blue eyes. Her desire to be with him more monopolized her thoughts. "Alonso, you don't have a pack, so why not join Ichika no Ho-en? It's a great place to live, and the canines are all really wonderful. We take care of each other and I'm sure you will fit right in. I mean, I can't let you in. You'll have to ask one of the leaders for that, but, it might be nice if we became pack. What do you say?"

Alonso watched the Arctic Wolf carefully as he spoke. She seemed to be listening to what he was saying, yet the slight glazed look in her eyes as she stared at him betrayed the fact that her thoughts were elsewhere. He continued to patiently nuzzle her as waited for her response to his question. ‘Feels good’ she said suddenly, startling Alonso who had begun to nod off as he waited for an answer. She then appeared to freak out over this simple statement and continued to stammer her apologies for something that Alonso was still not aware off. She looked to be in such frenzy that Alonso couldn’t help but smile. Her cluelessness was entirely endearing.

He continued grinning as he stared at her wide, innocent eyes, her playful smile, her nose scrunching up as it did when she got worried… It was only when he began to pay attention to what she was saying that he froze. “A new pack?” The idea had never occurred to him. He had been happy to discover a new area with wolves that he could forge new friendships with. But he had never considered joining a pack to do so. As a loner he was fully capable of meeting countless new wolves and exploring new areas yet he was never tied to anything - like he could leave if he ever wanted.

The thought surprised him. Did he want to leave? ‘No, not really’ was his answer, for he had grown extremely found of the place and its people. Yet the idea of a new pack scared him. He had lost his entire family in a single event and now he balked from the idea of forming new relationships. It wasn’t just that he felt it would be a disservice to his old family, He was now also aware of the brittle nature of a life and wasn’t sure he was ready to form new relationships only to have them severed by death’s sharp knife. In short, the idea of joining a new pack terrified him.

Kiara stood next to him, her big sapphire eyes staring trustingly into his. How could he tell her that he wasn’t ready for this? That the one thing she asked him to do, he never could? “That’s never going to happen!” he spat out in sudden defiance. “Never bring up the subject again” he said as he turned away and ran. Strange how his life always had such an outrageous amount of running involved. Perhaps that’s all he was good for really.

Overall, their meeting was a happy one. Kiara enjoyed spending time with Alonso and loved the way he made her feel. Other males tried to get on her good side by flirting with her and saying pretty words, things she didn't understand or really appreciate. They made her heart flutter, but there was also a great deal of nervousness that went with those pretty words. Alonso was different, he didn't use shallow words and he even teased her for being silly. His touch was soft and gentle, and made Kiara's heart beat a mile a minute. But this was different, and in retrospect, it really wasn't that bad.

Despite how their meeting began, it seemed to end in disaster. Kiara suggestion for Alonso to join Ichika was not taken lightly and Alonso seemed to panic at the thought. One moment the spaniard was all smiles, the next, he was practically growling at the snow wolf. What had caused his outburst, and why? Those answers were lost to Kiara. All she could do was watch as Alonso faded into the distance. The arctic wolf's sad eyes stared at Alonso until he was out of sight, and they continued to watch for another twenty minutes in case he decided to return. Oh, how she wanted him to return. "Alonso...come back." She whispered. Slowly, Kiara stood, her snowy form blending into the world. After one last look into the distance, she too left.
