A rare social twinge for Hotaru

Word Count → 533

At last, it was done. Before going to the festival, the blind wolf had Fawkes keep his eyes on a dying Eastern Red Ceder. According to him, the tree had been tall and thick, which was perfect for what Hotaru had in mind. After returning from the festival, the grey wolf had been delighted to find out that not only had the tree passed, but it had fallen down of it's own accord. Hotaru had woken up early that morning and brought with her a variety of tools. The most notable tool was the large hand saw, although it would be extraordinarily difficult to use without the help of another. Luckily, a member of the pack had spotted her in the woods.

Hotaru wasn't really familiar with many of the pack members, so it didn't surprise her that the large male was a new face. He had introduced himself as Thomas and was one of the most polite and kind wolves Hotaru hed ever met. Although like most, once he figured out she was blind he had become awkwardly careful around her. The shift in behavior always bothered Hotaru because she felt like people were pitying her, and it wasn't a comfortable feeling either. Despite their feelings, both wolves not only managed to cut the tree into several decent sized logs, but they had managed to move four logs nearly a quarter of a mile back to Hotaru's house. After that, the male had left and returned to his normal duties.

Once the task of moving the logs was complete, the carver had set to work. She had spent the rest of the day carving, hacking, sculpting, painting a bench out of the logs. The legs of the bench were made out of one of the logs that had been cut in half to form two thick disks. The second and longer log had been cut in half to make two long boards, one of which was used to make the seat and the other was made into the seat back (although it had to be thinned). The seat back stuck out at a small angle to make it more comfortable. The angle was due to the wedges Hotaru had placed on the vertical boards that held the back up and glued it to the base. She had used wooden pegs to keep everything together and had painted it with a special oil to help prevent weather damage.

Hotaru stood back and admired her handy work, or at least pretended too. She couldn't really see it, but she knew what it looked like because she was the one who had built it and enjoyed standing up for the first time in hours. The grey wolf had placed the bench just outside of her house. She had positioned it close to her carving boulder and left it at an angle where it would not only face the boulder, but it would also face the road. Hotaru would often sit on the boulder to carve, and the time with Juliet had made her think about her social life, or lack there of. In the interest of being social, Hotaru had decided to make the bench.
