He watched Selene's reaction nervously, knowing that she could pull away, make sure that he never touched her again. Her jaws widened, and Hadley flinched, only to realize it was simply a yawn. The heat must have been making her sleepy. It was certainly relaxing. Even Hadley felt more secure, and he was almost always on edge, ready to flinch away and cower. Part of his hair was brushed away, allowing Hadley a more clear view of Selene. Her brown eyes were soft and gentle, not judging his words, not turning into a devil like Amy had.
The small hybrid nuzzled into his chest, and a tentative smile formed at her words. She liked being held. It was alright then. He wouldn't get in trouble for holding her. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling Selene close. Everything would be just fine. For once, instead of seeing a nightmarish world around him, screaming of danger, Hadley saw a flicker of another world. One where beauty could exist without pain to taint it. It let the steam rise and fall softly, not a screen to hide behind, but simply something to watch and admire.
