Sorry for going missing for so long! Things here have been... well let's just say really not great.

It was late evening, although the sky around seemed light, the thick blanket of snow was reflecting the moonlight with a strange yellow glow. All around the land was quiet, a soft breeze was blowing across the pack lands, bending some very small branches as it passed them, but still there came no sound. The sky itself was an endless blanket of stars, for once it seemed endless and without depth, almost like it went on forever, incomprehensible, unimaginably vast above the snow covered lands of New Dawn. Here and there the gnarled trees stretched high into the sky, devoid of leaves they seemed twisted and broken somehow, all in all the lands was peaceful, serene. A dark figure sat in the middle of all of this, bent almost double upon a snow covered rock. She seemed to be focusing intently on something near her feet. This figure was of course Soran, the sable female sat quietly, hands working furiously on her foot, she had stepped on a very sharp stone that had been hidden under the thick blanket of snow that covered the ground; and now she was attempting to dig it out, in this weather infections could be a killer and the dark Beta wolf could not risk something like that. No, not at the moment, young Zalen and Titania needed her to be in the best shape that she could be, they had invited her here to use her council after all and she intended to be the best help she could be; that could never happen if she were delirious, laying somewhere mad with fever all because she had not taken the time to pull the small shard of stone from her foot. Finally long nails found a place to grip and with a quick motion the ebony pelted Beta pulled the small item from the sole of her foot. She raised her head and smiled a little, moving to brush a strand of her curled mane from her jade eyes. Now that that task was finished with the sable lady would be able to concentrate on other things, musings that needed to be thought on.

Bright green eyes scanned the landscape as the dark female thought, this pack was now a month old, the pride she felt when this thought came to her was very hard to force down. However she barely knew anyone here, she had been feeling less than friendly for the past few weeks and so she had kept to herself, greeting the pack members as she passed them but not really stopping for any real interaction, she had kept working with her duties though. But now, now she felt that she could perhaps be a more social member of the pack again, she had been seeking comfort in Deuce of course, cuddling up to her, curling herself around the pale female like a cat, but she had not been the most friendly of wolves, now that would have to change, she would have to make an effort with the others. After all the sable Beta had left her old pack and her family to come here, there was no point doing that if she was going to waste it, to become a recluse. So with a small smile the dark female rose to stand, shaking her head and allowing the long braid that most of her mane was restrained in to thump against her back lightly, a smile graced her lips as the feathers that she had placed in it; gifts from her daughters; tickled her lower back. With a renewed sense of purpose the dark female marched towards the communal sleeping area, perhaps she would find Deuce, Zalen or Titania and tell them of her plans to be a more friendly creature from now on, to rid herself of her hermit like habits, or perhaps she would meet a new wolf here in the snow, perhaps she would be able to make her new start happen as soon as possible.

OOC: hope you don't mind me jumping in Smile

Jiva had been out near the den, though not too close as to make the leaders or any of his pack members nervous. Tobias was not a wolf and therefore not allowed in the den, though he roosted high up in the trees quite happily and comfortably. Jiva wanted to do a little training with the hawk before settling himself down. He was not normally in his optime form, but to train the bird it was something he felt he should do, after all it was the only way he had learned how from his father, and in turn the only way the bird learned from Niro. Jiva was teaching hte bird to come to barks and growls rather than the piercing whistles his father had taught the animal. He would make a bark to send the bird away, and then a short yip to bring him back.

He was in the middle of doing this when a woman caught his eye, she was as dark as Zalen but looked older, and she held authority to herself so he stopped what he was doing and knelt on his knees and lowered his head. If he were in his lupus form he would have rolled over. He was getting use to showing those above him their dominance over him. His only problem was he was in the middle of training and Tobias was coming at the young man’s arm and missed entirely falling not so gracefully to the ground. The bird got to his feet and shook his feathers back in place and gave Jiva a very unhappy look, but he hopped to where he could glide up to the young man’s shoulder and settled himself there. The redtailed hawk then preceeded to look straight at Soran. It was his way of figuring the woman out, his one eye looking at her as his head constantly moved to keep her in focus.

No problem whatsoever! Thanks for joining Big Grin

As the sable female walked she became vaguely aware of a series of sharp barks and yips coming from nearby, the dark lady paused for a moment, a sudden pang of worry crossing her chest, perhaps there was some trouble within the lands? Was it a cry for help or a call to arms, but soon this was soothed by plain logic, no, these sounds were far too regulated, too similar, it sounded almost more like chanting than anything of a more serious nature. The sable female turned her head to one side slightly with amused confusion, what one earth was one of her pack mates doing? With her new found feeling of wanting to be in the company of others the dark female decided that she would follow the sound in order to go and see who it was that was making such noises. The sable female's ears turned, the silver hoops in the tip of her left ear glinting slightly in the moonlight as she did so; they were one of the few things that she had kept, something slightly human, but she did not see anything wrong with them and was not even sure that she would be able to take them out even if she wanted to, they had been in for so long now. Soon enough her velvety ears caught the sound and Soran began to pad towards their source, a slight bounce in her step as she did so, her tail wagging lightly; after all this was her home, these wolves were her family, she ought to get to know them and now, all of a sudden she found herself wanting to more than anything. It did not take the sable Beta wolf long to find the source of these barks and yips, a soft smile crossed her lips as she saw the young red male, he seemed to have some kind of bird of prey with him, and if the sable female was not mistaken, he was attempting to train him. This was something that piqued the older wolf's interest indeed, she had never seen this done before, in all truth she had never even thought that it might be possible to train such an independent animal to behave in such a manner; it all seemed rather clever to the green eyed lady.

As she approached it seemed that the younger male had spotted her, he dropped to his knees and bowed his head, the sable female smiled slightly, she was still unused to receiving such behaviour from the lower ranked wolves within the pack, though she had to admit that she liked it, it made her feel respected and that made her feel needed. It also gave the convenient tell that this male was a member of her pack and not an intruder, no other would behave in such a way, then again she hoped that no other would have made it this far into the lands unnoticed, soon enough the dark female was close enough to catch the male's scent, sure enough he was indeed a member of the pack. The dark female winced slightly as the bird collided with the male, feeling a little sorry for the sky hunter, but he seemed completely unabashed and clambered onto the male's shoulder, she noticed that he was watching her with a very careful eye. Soran smiled softly as she approached, looking down at the male's bowed head she spoke,"Thank you very much for, what I might admit is a wonderful show of respect, you may stand now though if you wish." she said, her voice warm and friendly.
"I am Soran Aatte, I am the Beta of our pack, I have not seen you around before, what is your name?" She asked, her tone remaining as inviting as it had been just a moment ago. She could not deny that she was pleased to see a strange new member of the pack, it showed that the pack was growing and that was just what they needed, they needed more numbers, to be strong and be a proper family to one another. She was pleased that New Dawn was growing in numbers, it showed that her gamble and the gamble of Zalen and Titania had paid off, they really were all going to be alright.

OOC: I wish i could match you in wc I feel like i'm lacking XD

Jiva had been new to the pack but he was learning quickly what was expected of him, or else he wouldn’t be in the pack for long. They were strict just like wolves should be and the young man wanted to prove himself worthy. When she spoke and allowed him up. Jiva stood up to his full height, which wasn’t too bit, though he still had room to grow, he was reaching just over seven feet now. He smiled graciously towards her as she introduced herself. In a quiet voice he spoke to her;

“My name is Jiva Takekuro ma’am. I’m new here, I have been here a round a weeks time. I am glad to be a part of a pack who knows when enough is enough. Oh and this is Tobias. He is my friend. He was caught by my father over a year ago, but he’s been freed since my father has left the lands. It seems he wanted to join me for a while.”

He smiled. This was all true. The hawk had found Jiva, in one of his usual haunts near Cour des Miracles, and decided to stay with the young man for the time being. Jiva didn’t know if he would stay or not. He would be sad if the bird left but the red tail was free to come and go as he pleased and this pleased the small bird of prey very much. It pleased Jiva that Tobias wanted to join him where he went. Jiva’s curly tail wagged back and forth. Though he was mostly wolf his mother’s husky side seemed to show in color as well as the curly tail of the husky, but this bothered Jiva little, though he wished he was a full blooded wolf like his father, he was proud of who he was all the same and he would prove to his pack members he was a reliable hunter and protector of the pack.

Oh no, don't feel that you have to match me XD I am too much of a rambler sometimes I think XD.

The sable Beta had missed this she suddenly realised, she had missed the interaction of others, she had only really been allowing those that she knew well close to her and with the pack being in its infancy still there were not many that she felt that she already knew that well, the select few she had kept close to her heart though. Now it was time to branch out though, she had always been such a friendly creature, she had been the one to take young wolves under her wing, to greet them at the borders and teach them the ways of the pack, she had been the one that was happy to give advice and always willing to share a meal and a few tales. Something had happened to change that though, she herself did not know what, something had simply changed within her and for a few weeks she had kept her interaction with those who she did not know well down to a bare minimum. But now she was ready to be a proper memeber of the pack once again, after all one of her key roles was to ensure that all those in lower ranks were performing their duties and to keep the pack morale at the highest that it could be, she could not very well manage that if she was not around to speak to those wolves that held the lower ranks. No, this was her duty and if she confessed something that she was once again looking forward to performing. She smiled at the young male's bowed head, he seemed a nice wolf indeed, she had always been the kind of wolf that considered all those who were in a pack with her to be extended family and it seemed like she would have no trouble feeling that way about this young male. The male stood at her invitation, she realised that he must still be fairly young, he seemed to still have some growing to do, in fact he did not stand much taller than the willowy Beta, she was herself only an inch short of being seven feet tall herself after all. She smiled in return to his smile and her velvety ears turned to catch the sound of his soft voice. He introduced himself as Jiva and she nodded, the smile still on her lips. It seemed that he had only been here a week himself, well that would make sense, the sable female had been deep in her seclusion at that point, no wonder she had not seen him before.

She smiled as he introduced the bird, explaining that his father had caught him and then released him, but somehow it seemed that the small bird of prey held some kind of loyalty to the red furred male and had stayed with him; this seemed rather strange to Soran, she had not expected a bird of prey to behave in such a way, but she had to confess that she thought that it was a nice thing.
"I see, well it is very nice to meet you Jiva and you as well Tobias, it is nice to see that you have such loyalty towards Jiva here." The sable female replied with a smile, thinking for a moment how wonderful life could be if all creatures were as loyal to one another as the pair that stood before her. What wars could have never happened? What families would still be together? It was a wonderful though, and yet at the same time a rather saddening one. Soran quickly shook herself free of the reverie that she was falling into, not wanting to slip away into deep thought when speaking to someone, especially when that someone was a new member of her pack. Again she smiled at him, her jade eyes flicking to look at the bird every now and again.
"What made you decide to come and be a part of our little family then Jiva? And how are you finding it here so far? I must confess that I feel bad for not having greeted you earlier than this moment." The coal pelted matriarch spoke, her voice still as soft and warm as ever, something of a motherly tone entering it. She was of course the wolf who mothered everyone.

OOC:

“It is nice to meet you too ma’am.”

Jiva smiled at Soran, bowing his head a little and the bird shuddered his wings a little, in short a way of saying he was pleased with her words. Tobias could understand a few words of high speech, though could not speak it. Jiva had been born amonst the birds and as a pup had met Tobias, who surprisingly didn’t attack him as a natural enemy. Marahute must have been a part of that reason, though Tobias had never showed much interest in Jiva until the day they met up again near the mountains. He was sure that the hawk roosted up in the trees when he was wild, and he must have missed the days where he could get as much meat as he wished just by scouting the area, perhaps that was a reason he came to Jiva, it was possible that he would have done the same if Niro had been the one to cross Tobias’ path.

“Well, I have been traveling a bit since I became a man, and I found that using my instint and letting myself be a wolf made me feel whole. I didn’t know there was a pack like that until I helped Zalen with a cougar and he told me about this place and when he mentioned my cousin , well I had to come. I didn’t expect her to be a leader though.”

He said, thinking of his very pretty cousin. He was envious of Zalen, though he did not wish to be mates with his cousin, but Zalen had the perfect mate it would seem. Jiva hoped to have one like that someday, but that was neither here nor now, and he was still a pup in mind and body and spirit and he wished to stay that way for some time. Love was for those who were old, but he wouldn’t mention that out loud to anyone.

I am so, so sorry for the wait on this! I have been super busy :S Also... i just realised that Jiva used to play with Soran's great granddaughter Robin Big Grin Somehow we should get that mentioned lol.

The sable female smiled at the young red male, he seemed very pleasant indeed, polite and kind hearted, already the ebony lady had taken a bit of a shine to him, little did she know that her patchwork great granddaughter had taken a shine to him when he had been a lot younger than he was now, he had been an excitable ball of fluff then, it would have boggled the young Aatte's mind to see him now she was sure. But still the sable matriarch did not know this. The dark Beta listened as the younger male spoke, she smiled as he said that he had been travelling since he had become a man, the truth was that he was indeed an adult, but the dark female was already eight years old; she could not help but see a few of the younger members of the packs as being barely older than the small bundles of fur that had been racing around only a few months before. She smiled at the male though, wanting him to see that she respected him, even though in her eyes he was still very young; still Titania was barely older than a pup and Soran trusted her with her life; though that might have had a lot to do with her sable almost-son loving her and trusting her so dearly, she trusted his judgement almost above all others. The dark female nodded as he explained about his travelling and that he had helped Zalen with a cougar, something that could have indeed been dangerous for the young pair, Soran's grandmother and uncles had all been killed by a cougar, at least that was what she had been told by her adoptive mother, apparently it was a story that her mother had told her when she had first arrived in the pack. Soran could not help but be impressed by the males dealing with the problem so efficiently; after all they were both still alive and seemingly without injury; perhaps she had underestimated this young male. Immediately a feeling of remorse washed over her, she was now an older female she realised, she was going to have to stop judging the young ones simply for being young, after all Robin was an incredibly capable young woman now; and really these wolves were not so young, only compared to her and she was pretty old really.

The male pointed out that Titania was his cousin and the sudden realisation washed over her, of course there would be a few of them, she had wondered why the surname had been so familiar to her, but there had been times when wolves had simply adopted names that fitted them and they just happened to be the same, clearly this was not the case. She smiled again at the male, he seemed interesting, even at his young age he had been travelling, that suggested that he would have some interesting stories to tell, the ebony matriarch could not deny that he had piqued her curiosity. Perhaps he had a lot of stories.
"I see, I have done my fair share of travelling myself, I arrived in the old lands when I was two years old, but I have been back and forth for a long time since. Where were you born? I assume you lived in these lands when you were young?" The Beta asked, choosing her words carefully, not wanting to offend him, not wanting him to think that she thought of him as being very young, even though she did; still he was a member of the pack and already she liked and trusted him.
"It must be a little daunting having a cousin that's already the Alphess of a pack, I suppose I'm lucky in that way, I have no brothers or sisters, or cousins for that matter, I have only ever had to compete with myself... and I suppose with my father's view of me." The sable female replied, she had started the sentence with a warm smile, but her eyes darkened a little and she stared off into the distance with the mention of her father; she should not have mentioned him, should not have even thought about the cruel psychopath that had spent so long trying to kill her and everyone that ever cared about her. It was something that she had come to terms with of course, but unfortunately it was something that still haunted her every now and again, something which crept into her dreams and tortured her in her darkest times; she had killed him after all, in self defence, but still she had taken a life, a life that had given her life and that was hard to come to terms with.
