Appearance:
Ezequiel's appearance is a fairly even mix of his two heritages, the twin bloodlines combining to give him a distinct appearance. From his Border Collie ancestry he has received his fur patterning and general body structure, while the Jackal blood from his fathers side of the family has served to reduce his body size somewhat, as well as giving him the characteristic pointed ears and long, fluffy tail of a jackal.

Like the rest of his Collie relatives Ezequiel's fur has a Tri-Colour pattern. He had the characteristic white colour of a collie, with this white extending up his muzzle and opening out a small amount above his eyes. The rest of his fur is a glossy black, with a tan colouration around his eyes, on the inside of his ears and on his cheeks. Ezequiel also has several tan markings along his body, such as the tip of his tail and his feet. However the most noticeable is a large tan dorsal stripe running along his back, another hand down from his jackal heritage.

Ezequiel's eyes are dichromatic, with each eye being a different colour, creating a striking yet disconcerting effect when looked at. His right eye is a cold ice blue, with flecks of a darker blue slowly becoming more predominant towards the centre of his eye where they form a small, dark ring around his pupil. In contrast his left eye is a warm amber, lightly tinted with gold. Like his right eye the alternate gold colouring slowly grows stronger towards the centre, with a small golden ring around his left pupil.

Ezequiel's body is a mix of his parents, combining the height of his mother with the lean, strong body of his father. While not especially high by the standards of most species, compared to which he would be described as of average height, for a jackal hybrid Ezequiel stands unusually tall.
Like his sister Ezequiel carries the tribal tattoo of the Isoko Jackal tribe on his left arm, done in black ink. The tattoo is a spiralling design, vaguely circular with three points and a variety of curls and points. The tattoo is framed inside a perfect circle of removed fur, created via light burns.

Unlike his sister however Ezequiel has chosen to adorn himself with more than the traditional tattoos of the pack. His back is adorned with a second design, of a similar tribal theme to the Isoko tribe tattoo, though with no particular meaning to it. This tattoo is vaguely shield shaped and is located on his dorsal stripe. Like with the tribe tattoo, burning was used to remove the fur, however unlike the tribe tattoo this burning is exact, with no untattooed flesh visible, which creates an interesting effect when the tan fur meets the black ink. Third is a jagged design running down his right arm in dark red ink, fourth a dark blue butterfly in the back of his left hand and Ezequiel's final tattoo is a circular celtic design done in dark green ink, dedicated to the memory of his mother, that is placed over his heart. All of these tattoo's share the characteristic precise burning that is indicative of Anita's work.

In terms of clothing Ezequiel wears a pair of baggy black trousers made from a tough fabric and lined with pockets and held up with an old human belt he managed to find. Ezequiel usually leaves his torso mostly bare, though he does always wear a leather bandolier slung over it. Ezequiel also wears a Celtic ring he inherited from his mother on his hand at all times, wearing it around a thin chain on his neck when he shifts into Lupus or Secui.

Ezequiel takes his self appointed role as protector of Anita very seriously and is fairly heavily armed as such. The bandolier he often wears is generally lined with throwing knives and has a holster for a bladed staff. The staff is another hand down from Ezequiel's mother and is made of matte black lacquered wood, with Celtic knots and lines carved along its length and a straight blade at the end.

History

Ezequiel and his twin sister Anita were born to Cara o'Cain and Abassi Isoko, two canines who couldn’t have been more different. Cara, an Irish Border Collie, was born into a traditionalist pack deep in the forests of Ireland. From an early age Cara sought to leave the relatively small island that was her home and explore the world. On the other end of the spectrum was Abassi, a proud member of a reclusive tribe of jackals that could trace its lineage back several decades before the destruction of the humans.

The two met by chance one day. Abassi's hunting had taken him far from the tribe grounds, Abassi preferring to make long hunting trips by himself as many of the tribes hunters did, when he encountered Cara, who had sailed south to Africa to explore the land. Abassi fell in love with Cara at first site and, managed to convince her to stay around the area. Over the next few weeks he managed to woo her, bringing her gifts and food.

Unfortunately the Isoko tribe had very strong views about mating with non jackal. A strange and reclusive tribe they believed that other canines were unclean and that only jackals were acceptable mates. There was a history of the tribe killing half-breed children that had occurred before, along with their parents, so when Cara became pregnant a few months after they became mates Abassi convinced her to move into a set of winding caverns he had found, which the two nicknamed the Warrens.

Ezequiel and Anita grew up in these caverns, the twisting passages and cosy caves composing their entire world. As the children grew up they learned about both their respective heritages, Cara teaching them of her Irish roots to fight off her homesickness while Abassi taught them the Isoko ways in the vain hope that the tribe would one day accept his children.

Following this line of thought when the children were a year old Abassi gave them the tattoo of the Isoko tribe given to children when they became yearlings and started to make discreet enquiries to the tribe. Unfortunately these enquiries were not discreet enough and many members of the tribe became suspicious, discovering the Warrens just after the twins reached a year and a half in age.
One night while Anita was sleeping a commotion on the main cave woke Ezequiel. Confused he crept down the tunnels to see what was going on. In the main room of the warrens Cara had been knocked unconcious and a group of the tribe's warriors was beating Abassi. Eventually the warriors forced Ezequiel's father up and gave him an ultimatum, kill Cara or they would kill the children.

Abassi was torn between his mate and children but eventually chose the latter over the former, killing Cara just as Ezequiel poked his head into the room. Managing to stay out of sight by luck Ezequiel watched in horror as his father slit his mothers throat, only to be stabbed in the back by the jackals. Correctly fearing for his life and that of his sister Ezequiel woke Anita and fled, using his knowledge of the tunnels in the warrens to evade the jackals.

For the next half a year Ezequiel and Anita fled north, a kill-squad of jackals dogging their steps the entire way. Ezequiel was never able to bring himself to tell Anita that their father had killed their mother and instead blamed both the deaths on the tribe jackals. The tribe jackals believed that the twins, with their mixture of tribe and non-tribe blood, were abominations that must be killed. By luck and rapidly gained skill the two managed to make their way north, crossing the channel to England by hiding away on a cargo ship.

The two made it to England safely and for a while they were safe and happy there, blending in with the locals. But then things took a turn for the worse when the jackals managed to track them across the channel and started searching the city for them. In a last ditch effort to escape their pursuers Ezequiel and Anita boarded a ship, sailing to Canada.

Personality

To the casual observer Ezequiel comes off as rather cold and immoral, often seemingly disinterested with other people, especially if they are not important to his goals or plans. The casual observer would be half right; Ezequiel cares little for the majority of those around him and is not above being openly derisive of one that he dislikes, but that derision does not extend to physical violence. Threats of physical violence yes, but not the actual thing. However Ezequiel is very dedicated to that which he feels is his duty and will not hesitate to use violence if he feels that it is necessary and is often vicious when doing so, which adds to his immoral appearance.

Only a few people actually see the real Ezequiel. The hybrid has little time for those he does not care about and gives off an aloof air towards them, occasionally giving them a small bit of interest if they can prove useful to him. Ezequiel is slow to warm up to somebody and see them as a friend, but once he does he is a loyal and protective friend who will kill to defend those he cares about without a seconds thought.

When around friends Ezequiel lets his guard down a bit, allowing himself to become more relaxed. While Ezequiel shows a gruff nature to most people to those he cares about he is kind and caring, though his tendency to assume that nearly everybody apart from himself is an idiot sometimes causes him to mother his loved ones unnecessarily. While Ezequiel enjoys spending any time around those he cares about he tends to prefer more practical activities, such as sparring or shared useful tasks as opposed to simply messing around with friends, though he will not say no to doing so.

Ezequiel's sense of humour is sarcastic, mocking and often dark. The hybrid draws heavy amusement from the failures and trials of those he dislikes. Despite this he will generally stay his tongue despite his amusement, preferring direct confrontations to insults and whispers if he feels that a confrontation is necessary.

Ezequiel is extremely close to his sister and has styled himself as a guardian for her beyond his natural protectiveness, any violence or unkind words toward very provoking an aggressive or even violent reaction from him in an instant.

Ezequiel only has a few hobbies that he practises simply from enjoyment and not through necessity or practicality. Ezequiel is generally much more open to conversation when he is enjoying himself with one of these activities, and if speaking to somebody that shows skill or interest in the same activity then he is much more likely to have a civil conversation with them off the bat.
Ezequiel enjoys wood carving. While he first learnt as a practical matter in other to make traps and shelters he has gained a liking for making trinkets and baubles just for the enjoyment of it. Ezequiel has also tried his hand at other forms of crafting such as stone or bone and found similar enjoyment, though he lacks the tools to pursue these, though he does tend to dabble in crafting furs and leather when he has the materials.

Ezequiel is also a fairly decent artist and practises this whenever he has free time. The leather binder that contains his supply of paper and several pencils is one of his most treasured possessions. Ezequiel's love of art also shows in the tattoos which he covers his body with. While Ezequiel is not the one to actually apply the markings, that task being trusted to the capable hands of Anita, he designed them all, with each one having a meaning to the hybrid.

The shield shaped tattoo on his back is a observation on his own personality, representing his tendency to mother and protect those he cares about. The jagged tattoo adorning his right arm is for his father, the violent pattern and red ink a reference to how the man's violence tore his life apart.
The other two tattoos designed by Ezequiel have more pleasant connotations. The Celtic design circling his heart is placed for his mother, the green ink both a reference to her Irish heritage and her own fondness for the colour. Similarly the dark blue butterfly on the back of his left hand is dedicated to his sister, the shape inspired by her fascination with the delicate insects and the colour chosen for her liking of it.

Ezequiel is extremely interested in the Celtic background that he shares through his mother, with the dog in question having come from a group that had resurrected many dead human traditions and beliefs. Unfortunately Ezequiel's interest in the subject does not match his knowledge; information about the group and their beliefs has proved elusive in Ezequiel's searches and the hybrid never made it to Ireland before situations forced him to change his path and sail to America.

Ezequiel is a very capable acrobat and is proud of this. While Ezequiel is a extremely capable runner his skill truly shows itself in his ability at climbing and jumping. It is a common comparison made that Ezequiel tends to move like a cat might if it could shift, the hybrid navigating trees, mountains and urban environments with an uncanny ease.

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
