OOC April 12 couldn't resist the idea of another awkward thread together. if anyone else wants to jump in feel free

Word Count → 000

Shadow's words about love was in her head today. She wasn't able to shake it free. More than anything Terra wished that things were more simple. Aylu's words of wanting her as his mate had completely baffled her, but if love was involved it made sense. The only problem was, why didn't she feel it for him? If love was so quick, so instantaneous as Shadow said, why was it that she didn't feel it? There was a powerful draw to him, but Terra was uncertain that it was love she was feeling, and not just a simple connection.

What did she want? Terra wanted to see Claudius, to watch him turn pink and to play with him. She wanted Aylu's protection and sweetness, but was unsure of what it meant. Lost in thought Terra found herself wandering away. Her leg was slowly getting better, but being on two legs now was a lot more difficult. She'd change back if she could, but the pain of breaking her leg with the one shift was enough to keep her remaining in the unfamiliar form. The smell of wolves reached her, and Terra jolted as she realized that she was on Aniwaya's borders. Why was she there? An overwhelming wish to see Claudius struck her again, to maybe clear everything up. She felt good around him, and he seemed to be wise. Well, wiser than her at least. Lifting her head Terra called hesitantly, wondering if he would come, or if she had come all this way for nothing.

Claudius had not expected to hear the sound of Terra’s howl fill the air. If anything, he thought he would one day return to Cour des Miracles to see her again, but that had been nothing more than an embarrassed thought. He knew if he were going to see her, he would have to muster up the courage to do it once more – but not yet. Apparently, however, Terra was plenty brave and hailed him from the borders.

His hands moved quickly to pack up his things. He had been collecting tree sap from spruce trees for use, as his meeting with Hadley had given him new ideas for things to make. Although he could have likely used sap from other kinds of trees, he knew spruce sap to work well with animal fat, making the perfect adhesive. He had twisted a small hole into the spruce tree and now that the days were warming up, the sap flowed better than it might have in the winter. Still, it was slow and sticky work. Claudius hurried to collect his sap and then close the lid of his ceramic jar. It was one of the few he owned, so it was getting to be quite worn. The next task on his list would be to learn how to make jars for storage.

He stowed his items away in his satchel and set off to meet Terra. He was fortunate that he had been setting up his sap collectors nearby, so the walk over only took him ten minutes. The AniWayan territory was expansive, so he would have otherwise left her waiting for a long time.

He arrived to find her on four legs, unlike his two. Adjusting his satchel, he barked to announce his arrival.

“Terra!” he shouted once he was closer. “Ho-ho-w a-a-are you?” he asked after a short pause. He grinned and wagging his tail slowly even though it clunked against his bag every time.

Claudius' scent reached her, sending Terra into a panic. Why did she want to see him? Did she really expect him to be able to give her advice about this? A bark reached her, his white form appearing shortly after. A bag was around him, the soft clanking inside making her curious. What was inside the bag? As soon as possible she'd be sticking her head in there to investigate. Her tail whipped into a frenzy, wagging wildly as she saw her friend. At least, she was pretty sure she saw him as a friend. With nothing but the one description to go on, Terra was still unsure about love. At least she knew it existed now, which was better than before.

Slowly she grinned up at him, an odd match for the blur of speed behind her. I'm good. Found myself in the area and decided to see you. It was rather random, but Claudius had come, so she couldn't have interrupted anything too important. The questions that she had could wait for another time, just glad to see the white wolf and have the chance to play with him again. This time though, she wouldn't be doing anything as foolish as deciding to climb. Or doing anything, really. Her balance was a lot more shaky with half of her balance lost in the broken limb.

...Terra!!! >:{ Also, which leg is it? I didn't have Claudius notice, since I wasn't sure!

Claudius felt giddy when he saw Terra wag her tail in return. He then felt a little embarrassed because that meant he had finally completely accepted that he had a huge crush on the coyote girl, but didn’t really know what to do about it. It would be best if he put on a brave face and exchanged pleasantries, as was expected of him. After all, he was now the host and Terra was his guest. It was only polite and Claudius was loathe to ignore any kind of social convention.

“O-oh,” he replied, still smiling. He nodded and then added: “we-we-ell, I’m gl-a-a-ad… you came… to visit… Have you e-e-e-ver… been to… AniWaya… before?” He would be more than happy to show her around, especially since he did not think Ulilohi would object to him forging a stronger relationship with a member of Cour des Miracles. In the wake of the war, they all likely knew the layout of the tribe from the attack, so it would help a lot if she could grow to appreciate AniWaya and then tell her fellow packmates about it. Of course, Claudius didn’t want to be just friends, but he didn’t need to go thinking about that just yet.

Claudius was just as happy to see her as she was to see him it seemed. Maybe a little unsettled that she had shown up, as pointless as it was. The next time Terra would make sure she had a good excuse prepared, rather than just calling him out because she wanted to see him. He could have things he needed to do, or find her a nuisance for showing up with such a childish reason. Well, maybe not childish, but definitely not something to come and call someone out for their second time ever meeting up.

She shook her head. Terra had come near Aniwaya, but she'd never actually seen it. There had been no need, no true interest in it. The castle to the east had been much more fascinating, full of places for her to frolic through. Touring the pack certainly sounded good to her though. Maybe you could show me around? Eventually she would get up the courage to ask the question she'd called him out to ask, but for now she was just waiting.

Oh man ouch Sad

When Terra shook her head in response, Claudius grinned widely and wagged his tail slowly. Good! He would be more than happy to show Terra around after she had shown him such hospitality. It was only fair to repay her in kind. Plus, he knew the tribelands very well, so he’d be able to show off his knowledge. He hoped she would find the AniWayan way of life interesting enough; they had a number of buildings, which were distinctly unique, so he figured it would be her first time seeing such things. Even if she’d seen anything like it before, he could hopefully dazzle her with his knowledge of the buildings’ construction, or something like that.

“Sure,” he replied. “C-c-c-come with me-e, then,” he added. He gestured with his hand, but then – struck with inspiration – decided to hold it out for her to take. As he was the gentleman and she the gentlelady, it was only fitting. Claudius knew it was a fairly bold move on his part, so he just hoped she would think it cute and not silly. He wasn’t really sure of Terra’s sense of humour, so he just hoped he didn’t completely embarrass himself in an attempt to impress her!

Why he was so delighted about Terra's ignorance of his pack was a mystery. She would have thought he'd have liked it better if she had at least shown a tiny bit of interest in it previously, instead of just showing up because her interest was in a particular pack member. His tail was wagging though, so he had to be pleased enough with her foolish behavior. Or maybe he just found it amusing. That was possible. Terra grinned at the thought, seeing the humor in the situation. How foolish she was, doing this. How absolutely hilarious.

Terra's tail wagged softly as he agreed to show her around. His hand remained out there for her to hold on to, perfect to help her stay steady. Reaching out she grasped it firmly, holding on as she concentrated on moving to his side. She smiled at the white wolf, glad of his kindness. Maybe it wasn't what he'd been expecting, but Terra was glad he'd done it, able to be close to him and put less stress on her leg. Just because it was better didn't mean it didn't still hurt sometimes. Where to first?

When Terra began to smile, Claudius felt himself returning the gesture and smiled happily. He was glad that she was so happy to see him and that she was interested in seeing AniWaya. This would, of course, be no fun at all if she wasn’t interested. She took his arm and they began to walk. When Terra asked where they were going, Claudius considered surprising her, but didn’t really see the point. Claudius himself neither enjoyed nor understood the concept of surprises, so he didn’t want to subject Terra to such tomfoolery.

“Guh-grand-fa-ha-ather’s… Tears. I-it’s a s-e-eries-s of of springs. The-e-ey… a-are dangerous… in the winter… but now tha-a-at… it’s the sp-ri-ingtime… it’ll… be very pre-e-etty… and ni-ice… and… warm if you’d like to… wa-a-arm up.” He hoped that the name would not scare her off; although the tribe claimed that the springs were cursed (and indeed they were, for they held death for any animal that ventured too close), this only held true during the winter. Now, it was a beautiful place and was always so quiet because of its poor reputation among the members of the tribe. Claudius had always liked going there because it was like his own private retreat. Now, he would be happy to share it with Terra.

They walked together, Terra breathing in the various scents from the pack land. Again, it was different from the other packs she'd been to. Thick trees, and the scent of members, but also strangely enough, smoke. It was such a faint scent, just a whiff here and there, but there was a fire on the land, something she couldn't even understand. It wasn't a small fire, or she wouldn't be smelling it all the way out here. Claudius didn't seem to notice though, so perhaps it was nothing.

Grandfather's Tears. What an odd name. She didn't really think about what it meant or anything, having never cried tears. She had been full of sorrow, but Terra didn't cry. Hearing that it was dangerous made her tail wag. A perfect spot to go and see. Warm up? Terra thought about it briefly. She couldn't think of any way to warm up at the water, not unless it had a lovely sunbathing rock there that she could stretch out on. Warm up how?

Claudius was glad that she didn't notice the tautological structure of his suggestion, so he was more than happy to explain how springs worked. Even looking back, he winced at how awkward he'd sounded. The springs were nice and warm if she'd like to warm up? Indeed! Claudius blushed and glanced away, but then looked back at Terra. She hadn't noticed, so he didn't need to think about his silly blunder anymore. He was just being ridiculous now.

“With wa-a-ater,” he replied slowly. He tried to think about how to explain this. Once he had a plan of what he would say, words would flow more easily. He often found that if he paused to consider his words, he stuttered less, so he always tried to do all he could to be as succinct as possible. “They c-o-o-ome from… underground… the water, that i-is. I do-on’t know really… how… it works, bu-u-ut… it’s wa-a—aarm all year round. It’s dangerous… in the winter… because i-it gets very icy… and kind of… creepy… but now… it’s sa-a-a-fe… and very nice. It might help you-ou-our injury… too… and relax it.” It would take them some time to reach the springs, so Claudius hoped that Terra wouldn’t mind chatting with him for a while. Since they walked upon two legs instead of four, their mobility was greatly reduced. Of course, Claudius didn’t want to see Terra injure herself again, and it seemed as though she was favouring her left leg. He hadn’t realized it until now, so he was glad he’d offered her his arm. The walk westward would likely be quite straining if she had to do it alone. Even the walk from Cour des Miracles had likely been quite strenuous, so Claudius would be more than willing to stop whenever she needed.

OOC thanks for giving me another challenge for keeping her alive. shell want to return to the springs in winter now

Word Count → 000

Terra grinned, tail speeding up as she caught sight of the pink color sliding across his face. She had no idea what had caused it, but it was very cute, something she just loved to tease him to receive. Her ears flattened a little as he said that water would be used for it. Water was cold. Getting into it during spring seemed silly, not to mention a little dangerous, threatening being washed away with the spring runoff. Luckily Terra had never experienced that herself, everyone managing to survive her first spring without drowning, though the previous year before hadn't been as lucky.

Her eyes widened as Claudius announced that the water came from underground and would be warm. She'd never heard about such a thing before. Underground water yes, but warm water? Perhaps from a puddle sitting too long in the sun, but this was really amazing! Her tail wagged happily, looking forwards to seeing it. She giggled hearing that it was creepy in winter, leaning into the white wolf. That'll be fun! She looked down at her leg, shrugging. Whether it helped or not didn't matter. She was used to the small aches running through it at this point, ready to take stops as needed. Such as right now. She slowed to a stop, releasing him to lean her full weight on a tree, lifting up her injured leg. Have you been in the springs?

Good! Terra can't die. >:{ Claudius likes her too much ;_;

Claudius could see that his explanation made a bit of sense because Terra began to grin and wagged her tail. Even though he didn’t really know how it worked, he figured that there was some sort of science behind it that made the water warm. Wherever it came from, it had to be heated somewhere and it was hot enough that even when it bubbled to the surface, it was still warm. Whatever the reasons, Claudius didn’t mind not knowing since he didn’t think he had any way of figuring it out. He was just happy it existed and that he could show them to Terra.

Claudius nodded when Terra said it would be fun, but frowned when she paused to stop. Since she was still leaning on his arm, he followed her to the tree, guiding her to rest against it. When Terra asked if he had been in the springs, Claudius shook his head.

“I-I’ve see-een them and been… nea-ear th-e-e-em, but nev-e-er in the-e-em… so it’ll… be a ne-e-e-ew… experience for both of us.” He grinned widely to show that he was excited about the opportunity as well.

He kept his harm half-extended and ready for when Terra wanted to walk again. He was a little glad they had taken a break, since his arm would probably get tired after a bit, too. It was good for both of them to catch their break for a second.

She was lucky that she weighed as little as she did or this would be a lot more difficult. If she had been taller, or weighed more at all, Claudius probably wouldn't be able to support her without being completely worn out. She listened to his words, grinning. Why haven't you been before? Waiting for someone to share it with? Her words were slightly mocking, but she was genuinely curious. Terra wouldn't have waited, diving right on in.

Part of her was glad that he hadn't gone before though, knowing how she tended to react to new things. Being laughed at for her dance, testing to see if it was really safe to enter, curious but shy of the unknown. The slight burn in her leg settled down, and Terra reached out for Claudius again, nuzzling against his muzzle happily. He was really nice, not to mention entertaining. Terra wouldn't have been as kind in his situation, making her even more thankful for it.

When Terra asked him why he hadn't been there before, and if it was because he was waiting for the right person, he had to resist the incredibly strong urge to blush and look away. But it was true, or -- maybe it was. Either way, he liked the way that sounded, so he knew he would have to be strong to tell her that, even if it sounded very embarrassing to Claudius.

"W-w-well, yeah," he replied. He glanced up when he realized he had been looking away and flashed her a big grin. Take that, Terra! he thought. She had won the last round, but he would be victorious this time. He let his grin turn into a happy smile when he felt Terra latch on to his arm and steer him away. He resisted the urge to giggle when she nuzzled him because the feeling of her nose against his chin was very ticklish. Claudius hadn’t really realized it until now, but he was a decidedly very ticklish wolf. He just hoped Terra wouldn’t notice or else it’d be the death of him!

In the end, Claudius was happy to know that Terra was feeling well enough to continue. Perhaps the hot springs really would do her well. Her muscles were likely very tense, so soaking in the water would probably relieve a lot of the tension.

Even though Claudius didn’t have any formal training in the areas of healing, a consequence of his work with dyes meant that he’d picked up a bit of information about plant properties. When inquiring further about the plants he used, he’d sometimes pick up a bit more information along the way and commit it to memory. He forgot who said it first, but he knew that it would help Terra. And after all, as Terra’s friend, all Claudius wanted to do was help her.

Being lazy

His response surprised her. He had been waiting for the right person? Was that her? Terra's green eyes widened with surprise, wondering why she was the right one. Perhaps he was the one to ask about love then. Surely Claudius knew about that. Her ears flattened a little, embarrassed. Her ears were back by the time Claudius was looking to her though, returning his large grin with one of her own. They moved along, her tail swishing lazily. What would the springs be like? What would they look like? They were sure to be interesting, with the reputation of being dangerous.

The sight of steam rising through the trees was the first to catch her attention. Terra thought it was the source of the smoky smell she'd caught earlier at first, but the smell wasn't there. Instead it was a funny one, water mixed with a kinda salty smell, if off from what she knew salt to smell like. She peered through the trees, wondering what it could possibly be, slowing down as they got closer to the source. Would there be something hidden there?

's cool, bruh. Also, I just realized that the territory description mentions nothing of them being hot springs, so maybe only one of the entrances is actually warm? And not necessarily hot, but just warm enough that they can sit in the water?

Aha! Success! Claudius could see that he had sufficiently surprised (and perhaps confused) her. His grin widened, but this time it was a sneaky grin, so he tried his best to hide it. He didn’t want Terra to know how competitive he had gotten. He thought that she would find it amusing that he wanted to compete with her like this, but he was still tormented by bouts of insecurity, so he figured it best if he just kept this smile to himself. By the time she looked over at him, she seemed to have recovered because she was smiling again.

As they neared the springs, Claudius could see some steam lifting. He wasn’t sure how warm they would be exactly. After all, he had always thought they were just regular springs with no warmth, but he was fairly certain that some of them held water that was just a bit warmer than usual.

The smell of salt rose in the air with the mist and he could tell that Terra had noticed it too. He kept his arm steady as they neared the rocks, knowing that it would be a slippery descent.

“Huh-ho-old on,” he warned her. “It’ll get… slippery… okay?” He reached around with his other arm, crossing it over his chest, to hold on to her hand so that she wouldn’t fall. As they walked closer, the dense forest gave way to rocks and water. He could see some steam rising, but couldn’t feel any warmth quite yet. They would have to move closer if they wanted to warm up.

Her grip tightened with his words, pressing closer to her temporary crutch. A fall here would be pretty nasty for her. Normally she wouldn't be worried, but this wasn't a normal situation for her, injured as she was. She took his other hand, managing to not look nervous about being injured, tail wagging softly behind as they came through. The trees fell away, rocks revealing themselves. The steam was there, Terra curiously searching for the source.

The pair wandered through, Terra looking at each bubbling spring with curiosity. It was a very pretty sight. One of them was the source of the steam, Terra stopping there. She wanted to let go, to just go nosing around it and investigate, but that fell under the category of a bad idea, such as the one that sent her climbing when she shouldn't have. Knowing Claudius wouldn't appreciate needing to save her twice she was more patient, letting him go in the water with her.

Cool Big Grin

Claudius felt her reaching hands cling to her fur to stabilize herself as they descended down the rocks. Now holding her with both his hands, Claudius felt a little more confident that she wouldn’t injure herself along the way. Once they found the source of the stream – there were five in all, but only one was warm – Claudius began to scan the area for a suitable path. Although the rocks here were neither sharp nor particularly ominous, they were slippery, which spelled certain danger for the injured coywolf. He paused for a moment to catch his breath. Once he had determined his path, he nodded to Terra.

“Fuh-foll-o-ow me,” he instructed her. Claudius stepped down one rock and then turned to help Terra down. He let go of her with his one arm, but continued to hold her hand so that they wouldn’t lose contact and so that Terra would have less trouble following him. He made sure that he had a solid footing and held his arm out in an angle that wouldn’t stress it too much. It wouldn’t help very much if her guide ended up getting hurt, too! And after all, Claudius was nothing, if not careful.

The pair worked through, descending through the slippery rocks. It was hard to avoid putting weight on her injured leg, trying to balance herself out. Carefully she stretched out, limping slowly beside him. They moved through the rocks, the water below. The whirls of steam could be seen coming off it, and Terra entered in. It was warm, surprising a small gasp from Terra. Her tail wagged, enjoying the feel of the warmth around her body. It was a slow decent before she was able to lower herself down.

Sitting in the water Terra glanced around. It's very pretty. She liked this place. Terra would be sure to come here again the next time she came to Aniwaya. Her leg tingled slightly, the water soothing the ache from the injury. Why hadn't she known about this before? Terra didn't know. She smiled at Claudius, and moved closer to nuzzle into his arm. She almost wanted to say thanks, but was unsure what she'd be thanking him for. Besides, she still had that question she had to figure out how to ask him.

This is the 'Souls equivalent of a guy and a girl in a hot tub!! HE'S MAKING A MOVE!!!

Claudius was glad to see that Terra was taking her time. She moved down the rocks slowly and with more precision than he thought her capable given her wounded state. But she made it, limping slowly, so as not to aggravate her leg any further. She was slow, too, getting into the shallow water, but once she did, she seemed to relax very quickly. Claudius grinned and then plopped himself down with neither elegance nor grace. Some water splashed, possibly onto Terra, as he unceremoniously deposited himself into the water. He grinned wickedly at his friend and the shimmied back to get comfortable.

“Y-y-y-eah,” he replied. He yelped in a quiet, high-pitched sound when Terra moved closer and nuzzled his arm. He paused for a moment and then burst out laughing. He was so jumpy! He brought his arm up and moved to wrap it around Terra’s shoulders to give her a half-hug half-hold.
