Watercolor blue-green eyes narrowed in a focused gaze, Fayne monitored the movements of her potential prey. A young whitetail faun and it's mother were grazing about seven feet away, completely oblivious to her presence. The silver female had decided she'd practiced enough within the New Dawn borders, mainly chasing down small game. She had grown bored of it, even though she rarely caught a damn thing. She was camped behind a large bush, peering through the leaves and at the deer. Waiting for the right time to pounce. The mother started taking a few steps in front of her offspring, which remained where it was curious about it's surroundings. It's eyes darted around the forest as birds fluttered from tree to tree. The mother took one more step Fayne took off, springing out of the bush swiftly. She jumped at the faun, her front paws sprawled out in front of her awkwardly. It was too late, the mother had caught her movements before she pounced and was rushing her child in the opposite direction. Fayne sprinted after the baby as quickly as she could, dodging trees and rocks that threatened to stop her. She was naturally fast with a thin, lightweight body and was able to keep pace with the young deer. Just when she caught up, ready to sink her teeth into the faun's tender hide the mother darted in front of her and blocked her attack. Her teeth caught hold of the mother's leg, but seeing as she'd missed her target she let go, immediately regretting it. She could have had the mother instead! She simply sucked at hunting. Without a proper teacher she'd never be good at it.

The dainty wolf came to a halt and watched the two bound off seemingly unharmed. The bite mark which she'd inflicted upon the mother wasn't slowing her down in the least. Fayne let out a long agitated groan, angry that she'd missed yet another target. Once the two were no longer visible Fayne sat herself down on the forest floor. Her ears were pulled back in discontent, her tail twitched with irritation. She licked her lips, almost able to taste the tender flesh of the faun she let get away. It couldn't really be that hard to catch something so small and fragile. Every wolf she's met up until now had no problem with it. Though she wasn't to blame being left at an early age, inexperienced, she still felt ashamed of herself. Both of her siblings were more skilled than her in this area and that only irritated her further. Was she a dud? Fayne rolled her head back to stare up through the trees at the blue sky. The wind rustled the leaves and created a downfall of leaves. It was quite lovely. Too bad it wasn't enough to calm her irritations with life.

Jaden was having a bad day. It could have been the hot sun on his black fur and the long jacket around his shoulders. It could have been his still fresh and aching wounds. Or it could have been his sore wishes to rejoin his friend X’yrin again. Whatever it was didn’t truly matter as he walked painfully along, a slight limp in his step.

He was walking along and grumbling to himself about overgrown cats when a pair of deer rushed into view. On their heels ran a dainty she-wolf. Her silvery coat caught the sun with a fine gloss making Jaden’s ears flick with admiration. He stopped and watched as the woman’s hunt ended disappointingly. She let her pray go. It seemed like the last thing a hunter would do. As he watched, she seemed to mope about it. It was clear she hadn’t planned on failing.

The better part of Jaden thought to offer advice but his foul mood warped his good intentions into a smart comment. He approached her a few steps to make sure he wouldn’t surprise her but kept at a good distance. When you hunt, you should try to keep the pray in your mouth, He stood broadly with an unintentionally dominant footing. With his torn jacket flapping open in the wind to show off the scratches on his body he looked rather menacing. You won’t catch much by spitting out your catch.

Fayne
OOC: | WC :: +400

Fayne had gotten caught up in watching the leaves as the fell down on her. Some catching in her full coat, which displeased her. She shook them free immediately, growling at them as the fell to the floor. Snapping at the ones that dared come near to her face. The young wolf was usually such a happy go lucky personality. But, trying over and over again to improve her hunting skills and failing had been putting her down lately. The snapping of some twigs caught her attention, her head jolted in the direction the sound had come from.

Her eyes landed on a black figure a few yards away, walking in her direction with limp. She instantly stood up and assumed her normally dominant posture. Her head held high, ears forward, and tail raised behind her. Her hackles were raised as well not sure if this stranger was a threat or not. At first, she swore she saw a human walking towards her. That was enough to make any wolf's hackles raise. But, it was just a Luperci clothed in human garments. Many Luperci wore clothes these days, Fayne found it distasteful and unnatural. There was no need of such garments when you were covered in fur. The sight of the clothed man only made her mood even more sour. Unlucky for him.

With here ears pulled back in discontent she stood and watched him approach her. She sniffed the air taking in his scent, she smelled like he was wounded. That would explain the limp in his walk. The stranger stopped a few yards away, resistant to near her. She raised a brow at him waiting for him to speak. What he said next only furthered her deplorable mood. A snarl rippled her lips, she wasn't like the stranger at all and didn't appreciate his mocking comment. She strode over to where he was standing and looked up at him, keeping the most dominant post she had in her. "Oh really? I had no clue that's how you caught prey. Next time I'll be sure to keep that helpful tidbit in mind." She snapped back at him. Her eyes wandered over his body, noting all the scars that covered it as well as the recent injuries. He wasn't in the best of health at this moment. "You should really watch your tongue. You're not in the best condition to be picking fights." Her brow was raised snidely, not in the least amused by his comments. It wasn't often that she argued with random strangers, but he was kind of being a jerk.

Sorry for the wait. Caught a stomach bug =( Words – 300+

Two wolves in terrible moods was a recipe for blood. Luckily, his mood did a bit of morphing as the other approached. He had to admire the wolf for her bravery in the face of a stranger, but he admired much more than that as her sleek and silvery body strode toward him. Fear of her held no place in him and affected a change on her display from one of threat to one of cute, but misplaced selfdelusion. He grinned as she took a place directly in front of him and looked him strait in the cool blue eyes. Watch my tongue? He chuckled. With a shrug of his shoulders, the black jacket that hid most of his body fell to his elbows. Slow, deliberate movements pulled Jaden’s arms from the sleeves and revealed the metal guards that seldom left their place on his forearms. Since having cut his hand he had left the gloves he usually donned off. Now only the black metal lay against his fur and he tossed the fabric formerly covering his body behind him with a swish.

Even in this state, I am much more difficult to attend to than any doe or fawn, He stood to his full high and glared down into her green eyes. The challenge was evident in him, hackles raised and his sharp teeth bore in a dangerous grin.So, as long as I have breath within me, I will speak how I wish.He snapped his jaw closed on the last word and his tail swished in anticipation of exactly what she might do to silence him.

In reality the man’s body did ache. The long cougar scratches and his few cracked ribs begged him to submit if only to avoid the abuse that might befall them. But his pride would never let him submit to a wolf he just met. He won out in strength, size, and, most likely, experience. He was completely convinced it would take at least two wolves her size to stand a chance against him, one more then that if he were not wounded as he was now. So he slide one paw back in the dirt ever so slightly in preparation for an attack and watched the female before him carefully, the scrutinizing eye of a primed warrior.

Fayne
OOC: It''s okay. :3 | WC :: +600

Anyone could tell the anger that was welling up in the usually shy and content wolf. Her eyes were narrowed in an angered gaze upon the man who was insulting her over and over again. With his words and his mocking expression. The silvery wolf's plush tail seemed to twitch with anticipation as she held it high behind her. Her threat didn't dent the black man, instead it caused him to chuckle. Which he really shouldn't be. He proceeded to show off some shiny black pieces of metal he was wearing on each forearm. Did he think that would scare her in the opposite direction? She had no need for human possessions and human weapons, she had her claws and teeth. That's all any wolf needed to defend themselves if they were skilled enough. A wide grin spread over her lips, followed by a brisk laugh when he swished his cape. She thought it incredibly silly how he was acting. Instead of baring his teeth, he was flashing the metal pieces. He was a wolf, but didn't seem to be acting like one. In a way, it was scaring her. How he was acting so much like a human, they were terrifying creatures. But, she hid the fear with her tall and dominant demeanor and a snide grin.

Fayne didn't believe word that was coming out of the man's mouth. He was injured, she could smell it. Her size meant nothing in a battle. What she lacked in strength she made up in speed, she was a lithe wolf and quick on her feet. She knew how to handle wolves in battle, even if she couldn't catch a deer. In her mind there was no comparison between fighting and hunting. Each required a different set of skills. She had plenty of experience in battle even if she didn't look it, with flawless and untouched features. Living on your own, taking care of siblings is a tough job that she performed it well. Having to fight of rogues and other creatures to keep her siblings out of harms way. Not to mention, she'd seen battles in her lifetime. Horrible, dreadful scenes of wolves mercilessly raping and killing there own family, hungry for power. Taking advantage of the changing world. She huffed at him loudly. Her dainty figure only gave her an edge, seeing as how the man was underestimating her greatly. Fayne took a few more steps towards him, the frightened she wolf hidden under a warrior's stance. Her own hackles raised higher, seeing him glaring at her, watching her every move closely.

"Sure. Keep speaking. As if you know the petty babble flowing from your lips is true. But, be warned. You should never underestimate your opponent."She tilted her head to the side and peered into his eyes, a wide smile on her face. "But surely you know such a simple guideline, being as skilled a warrior as you are." Fayne took one more step towards him, in the back of her mind scared of the humanoid figure standing before her. Wanting nothing more than to run in the opposite direction and avoid confrontation. Of course she wouldn't attack him, she wasn't a savage beast. She was a kind an gentle soul, simply having a bad day. Fayne planted her feet firmly in the soil, ready to turn and run if she needed to. Or, fight if she had to defend her life. She was prepared for either scenario, hoping that neither would happen. Her hot-headed self was shining through her shy demeanor today, how incredibly unlucky.

The loner standing before this dainty she-wolf was no stranger to the game of submission. Having been raised to be Alpha of a ruthless pack, there had been need of a strong will to prove himself and to keep the lower ranks in line. Now, with the burden of pack life lifted, he could still read the signs. She was stubborn and maybe a little too proud for her own good but she, just like the optime, didn’t really want a fight. She wanted him to submit and it was most likely because of his initially rude comment. What was his reasoning behind that? He had wanted to offer assistance, but being patronizing was the worst possible way to approach a wolf who couldn’t hunt properly. It was his fault things had gotten this far. So, he could push this meeting further and attack or he could leave her be. It wouldn’t be easy to fight her on two legs. She had the advantage there, even with his armor. His cracked ribs wouldn’t allow him to shift either.

The fire of a challenge quelled in his belly as he listened to her speak again. She could have attacked already if she had wanted or thought she could dominate him. What spurred her to keep pressing him to throw an attack against her was a mystery but he felt safe enough. They stood on even ground now. He had no plan of attack either.

Jaden straitened his stance from one of a dominant challenge to that of a neutral observer. His arms crossed over his scarred chest and his eyes narrowed slightly as he wondered what would be the best course of action to take. A long and tense moment passed by before he broke the silence with a sigh. I do, he finally answered, Perhaps… perhaps you are right. Though he was in no way showing submission to the other, these words were probably the closest thing he could muster, As you kindly pointed out, his voice rose patronizingly for a moment before he quelled it again with a pause, I’ve had my share of scuffles recently. We should no longer carry on like this, like two bickering pups. It would be difficult to mar such a perfect coat with the marks of battle anyway. It was meant as a complement and the optime cast his harsh gaze aside to show it’s sincerity. When his eyes fell on the female again, they sported a decent amount of respect. It was all he could muster with his bad mood still nipping at the back of his mind but she had earned it fairly with her bravery. I’m Jaden. What might I call you, pack wolf?

Fayne began to worry what the stranger was thinking. He seemed to be weighing his options, she could only hope that he weighed them in her favor. A moment passed and his stance relaxed, a silent sigh escaped her lips. It seems the danger had passed and she was safe to relax a little bit. Her hackles lowered and she relaxed her shoulders, the tenseness leaving her body. Though, she still stood dominantly as she always did in the presence of strangers. A safety net so to speak.

Her eyes remained focused on him, if he decided he indeed wanted to attack she would be ready. He was a strange wolf in her eyes. Who taunts a random stranger. Especially one who was obviously having troubles. A slight smile creased her lips. She would do that. She had a way of causing trouble, forgetting to watch her tongue at times. It was the same reason she was arguing with the man in the first place. The smile was quickly covered with her previous somber gaze. She hoped he hadn't caught glimpse of it, it would ruin her disposition. A couple more awkward moments passed and the inky stranger spoke once again, breaking the silence.

Her ears perked as he spoke, intently listening to what he had to say. Wolfish discontent crossed her face, he was starting to really get on her nerves. But, his next words eased her anger. She was too easy, a simple compliment transformed the angered warrior into a soft and gentle being. A wide smile immediately broke her austere disposition. The kind wolf emerging all at once. Her tail swayed behind her happily, glad that the stranger didn't want to fight. "That is an agreeable statement." Her coat truly was perfect, a chuckle escaped her. "We were indeed acting like two children quarreling over something insignificant. That's not the proper way to make new friends. I apologize for my harsh introduction, you just caught me on a bad day. Fayne relaxed herself, planting her rump on the forest floor and curling her tail around her front legs. She nodded at Jaden's introduction. I am Fayne, from New Dawn. Pleased to meet you."

She looked over him, her eyes soft and gentle as they usually were. Eyes reading his body, looking over each injury and scar with empathy. It seemed that everyone she met had been marked by battle. How had she been so lucky to remain flawless after all she's been through? In a way, she disliked it. Nobody could tell from glancing at her that she was a capable warrior, how was one to know other than by asking her? Fayne brushed the thought aside, it really didn't matter. "So Jaden, how did you obtain those recent injuries? You look like you've been in one heck of a fight." Her curiosity was once again eating away at her. Immediately regretting the question. What if it had been something that hurt him to speak about. She hadn't thought it over before she spoke. The regret was evident in her demeanor, ears pulled back for a few seconds before relaxing once again. She couldn't take it back now.

It is nice to meet you too Fayne. It was funny how different people reacted to complements. Some shrugged them off while others took great pleasure in only a few words. The female had a right to be proud of such a pretty coat but he had a feeling that pride weighed more heavily then necessary on her. Something to keep in mind should he need to sweet talk her.

Chances were that wouldn’t happen. She wasn’t his type from what he had dealt with so far and he hadn’t even heard of New Dawn. It didn’t look like he would have any reason. She sat and he watched her look him over. She wasn’t the first. His new injuries didn’t seem all that bad to him because the cougar’s claws hadn’t gotten very deep. The long scratches down his right thigh and midsection were painful but his cracked rib was the least comfortable of it all. Every breath reminded him of the aches he had.

Being asked about the injuries wasn’t uncomfortable for him at all. In fact, he quickly realized it was a source of pride. The act leading to him fighting that feline had been to save his dearest friend from it. It one of the first selfless things he had ever done and it warmed his aching heart. A cougar attacked a friend of mine. If you think I got it bad you should have seen him. Jaden grinned proudly. A brave question to ask a stranger so I will ask you one too. Who taught you too hunt? It wasn’t mean or spiteful like before but honestly curious. He had a feeling from what he had seen that she hadn’t been given any instruction. How she answered would determine whether or not she would even accept advice on the subject. It was why they had been at each others throats only a moment ago anyway.
