ooc: First few posts between Zana and Helotes, AW after that.

IC: The pygmy woman knew it was time. It had been a long time coming but slowly and surely the days had slowed, the movements of the pups within had almost come to a crawl and the weight of it all had shifted, like the world turned on end. Her life these past few weeks had been filled with tension and stress, where it should have been happiness and bliss shadows had fallen across the cloudless skies as the clan had begun to settle in recovering from the aftermath of the war.

Borders still had to be patrolled, information gathered, and life had to continue. What she never had expected was the shell of a man she once knew upon the edge of their lands, only half his soul and filled with a darkness she had known too well once. Those stormy eyes had turned to her and tension had mounted between them. Her brother had grown bitter quickly in finding that within the first moon of their mateship Helotes had quickened her womb with child. The anger and disgust had shown bright in his eyes as he let her know just what he thought of it, of the secret belief she had shared with few, that she nor they would survive. While it should have been an embrace of kinship and joy he had just served to remind her of all she had to loose.

She had been determined to set out on another patrol, but like the last few she had tried to set out upon she had gained the steps of the mansion and realized that there was no way she could make the hours of padding along the edge of their lands. This time though she had felt the first wave of contractions pull tight across her abdomen, the ripples rolling across her swollen belly as she gasped. Her fingers splayed across the massive girth as her eyes widened with fear.

The small woman tilted her head back and let out an urgent and demanding call for her mate to return immediately. She turned back to the large door of the mansion and sank down the frame to collapse on the stone steps as another wash of pain consumed her frame.

Once, a long time ago, he had been called manga de viento, the whirlwind. He would move like a tornado across the hearts of women, tearing them asunder as if they were nothing more than delicate flowers against the wrath of the storm. He had managed to maintain this into adulthood, and then, middle age, but now it finally seemed that age was catching up with the dark Lykoi and he felt as if the exploits of his youth were now nothing more than distant memories.

Though his body remained fit, healthy, and strong, his spirit was beginning to wane; he was no longer a young pup. Now, he had mature duties to attend to, ones of family, and for the first time in his life he was beginning to understand fully the frustrations of his father. It was true that he would never be like that dark man, but he understood.

His ginger mate had been on his mind constantly from the moment she had revealed to him the flaming lives within her. He had watched with somewhat fearful admiration as her body had transformed into the perfect living vessel for these beings. He could see how it strained her, see how her small body nearly broke under the added weight, but she continued to be strong, and grim.

Things had begun to get better though, after Inferni had finally finished the bloody conflict with the Boreas. The family felt as if it I might just get to normal, if normal was even something to be achieved for them, but then he had to come and ruin it all. Davinci, a ghost from Zana’s past, had come and torn her down from whatever height she gained. He hated that man for it, and would soon make his feelings very clear; the honor and integrity of his beloved was more important to him than anything else.

Still, there were menial duties to attend to, and therefore Helotes found himself within the stables this spring day, attending to his mares. Yegua and Potra had both settled down after the birth of several foals, and they were nothing but a joy to Helotes. He was taking great care with them now, brushing them thoroughly, even taken the time to braid their hair, which they enjoyed very much they told him in their horse mutterings. He stood and mumbled to them softly in equine-low speech, saying nothing more than sweet-nothings when both horses in unison raised their heads to look towards the mansion. Then, a second later, Zana’s cry; Helotes nearly teleported out the door, the whinnies of the mares echoing behind him.

He found Zana immediately, collapsed on the stairs of the mansion, breathing heavily and clutching her engorged abdomen. The father-to-be immediately knew it was the puppies, and knew that it was about the right time for them to come; perhaps they were to be blessed and all would survive, breaking the curse that Zana had seemingly set upon herself.

Shall I carry you to Enkiel? The man asked, wondering if she would request the aid of the healer or birth them on her own. Helotes’ heart began to flutter and his head began to swim as the excitement and anticipation of the mounting event built. He would bring her to Enkiel if it had been his choice, but it was her decision in this case.

The tiny woman should have expected the future Lykoi children to come when it would cause the most trouble. Her fingers splayed across her engorged belly as she curled up against the door of the mansion. She growled to the beasts within as her voice hissed softly. "I am still in charge here.." Foolishly threatening the tiny souls within her womb, knowing that she could act like she was in charge but when nature took hold there was nothing she could do. Instead of fighting the force that she couldn't control the small Lykoi just gave in and let the truth take hold. They were coming and they were coming now, fast and hard.

She had called out for her mate and to no surprise he appeared like a whirlwind, the emotions showing across his face as he asked her such a simple question. She snarled at Helotes as she spat out "I don't need Enkiel's help!" Her overly bright lilac eyes narrowed as she whined softly. "Just.. help me back inside..." She would NOT give birth to their children on the doorstep to the mansion for all the world to see and if she had to drag herself back through the doors herself she would.

Luckily she didn't, for her mate had brains enough to know just how stubborn the small Lykoi woman was. She would have wept if she could have as Helotes carried her back into the mansion and through the door to their quarters. When he laid her gently upon their nest of blankets and furs she curled up tightly for a moment as another wave of pain rippled through her small frame. She was afraid but she didn't want Helotes to know just how scared she was.

Zana was panting heavily as she began to feel the bodies turning and moving within her small frame. If she hadn't been in so much pain she probably would have been queasy with the whole event. The tiny hybrid turned away, facing the wall as she pressed her hindpaws against the old building. Her claws dug into the plaster, carving deep chunks into the wall as she growled deep in her throat. She could feel the panic begin to rise inside of her.. what was she thinking.. she didn't know what to do.. she'd never had pups before nor had she ever thought she would.

Word Count :: 229 Emma can come in next or Zana can reply again, whichever XD

Helotes could only imagine what the pain of childbirth might be like, but in true form instead of crying like other women might, Zana made clear to the children not yet out of the womb who was in charge. But despite her strong front, Helotes could tell she was in pain, and afraid, so when she viciously told him no to Enkiel, he nearly retorted. But he had to do what his mate asked of him, so carefully he picked up her oval form and brought her inside.

As soon as they entered the mansion, Helotes’ eyes darted around the common room to see how any gathered there might react, but the only person’s eyes he met were Emmanuelle’s. His mind clicked suddenly, and as he began to ascend the stairs he looked to the healer in training with imploring eyes and then gave her a quick nod. Hopefully she would get the message, and would come to aid the both of them through this process.

Once they got to their large room, Helotes set his bulging wife on the bed where she curled up in pain. He stood there for a moment looking at her, completely unsure of what to do, before moving over to the fireplace and starting a fire there. Boiling water; clean water was always a necessity for any medical occasion, birth must surely be the same.

Emmanuelle had been curled up in the common room napping on the couch when she heard the call, it was a demanding one for Helotes and it came from Zana. It could only mean one thing, and at this she grimaced. Remembering their conversation while the two were gathering herbs, she almost viably wilted. Zana had been so sure that she didn't need a healer, but Emma knew better. Even if the pups didn't survive the overly small woman would need healing because her body was simply too small to get through birthing puppies without some repercussions, but she would wait until she was called for before acting. In the meantime however.. Her swift feet took her bounding up the stairs to her room while she took quick inventory of her things.

Her bright mis-matched eyes took a moment to look around and then her body moved into controlled action, gathering hard bits of leather, gauze, clothes, disinfectant, pain reliever and things like that. In a hurry she shoved everything into her bed and walked downstairs, seating herself down just as Helotes came into the common room carrying his painfully pregnant mate. She didn't miss the look he gave her as he walked up the stairs she had just come down and followed silently, throwing her bag over her shoulder. She knew birth was a messy thing and so while they were walking she threw her hair into a high pony tail, the soft blonde curls cascading down her back and bouncing with her movement as steps up the stairs were taken.

As she entered their room she was surprised to see that someone, probably Helotes had smashed a hole in the wall between two bedrooms. The other was probably Zana's, as she couldn't see Helotes wanting someone to see what him and his mate were doing.. In theory. She noted that it had been fashioned into a crude doorway, and the scent of a younger canine wafted from that room. Now that she smelled him, she remember a smaller canine hanging around these two. It must be a son, maybe adopted? Pushing the random thoughts out of her head she shook it slightly, she needed to focus on the task at hand even if it was very nerve wracking and stressful. To her pleasure she noted that Helotes had started up a fire, he was smart male and she was glad he wasn't turned into a bumbling fool because his mate was giving birth.

She stepped to the table and moved some of the items on top of it to the chairs so she might unpack her medical stuff. Emma removed everything from her bag and set it on the table neatly, grabbing a longer, hard piece of leather for the moment. " Zana.. Here, please bite down as hard as you can on this, it will distract you from some of the pain. You can also squeeze my hand when the contractions come, we are going to try and get your mind off of the pain until they are ready to come, okay? " She said, her voice level and reassuring. Both her and Helotes needed to be the picture of steady calm right now to keep her calm, or this was going to fall apart very quickly.
