I will Sweetheart, she said giving Jiva’s hand a tight squeeze before he too shifted and the trio were off into the woods. Palaydrian nodded at Niro’s commands, sounded easy enough and she watched the two wolves run ahead of her. She wasn’t about to try keeping up with them now, and looking down at the metal object in her hand, she knew she wouldn’t have to get extremely close for their quarry to able to hear them. The plan was ingenious, and the woman felt an odd sense of pride at being able to help out in this form. She was beginning to a see that a lot more could be done in this form than she thought. Hunting at least was something she had categorized into something one did in their natural form, but if Niro had made this object for the purpose of the hunt, she had no doubt he had taken something down in Optime before.

Father and son broke off as Jiva circled around the deer, Drin’s eyes immediately picked out their little formation Niro had put them in. Jiva would give chase and her metal cans would confuse and disorient the deer into running towards Niro, the wolf to deal the final blows. Hunting in a group made things much easier, but having a scout like Marahute almost made it too easy. Again her mind thought about future hunting situations, if only she had a bird. What a marvelous team they could make, but part of the hunt had always been the fun of tracking. Still, there were probably many different plusses to having a companion in the form of a feathered friend.

Drin’s seal point ears registered Niro’s low bark and she immediately began shaking the cans sending a cacophony of sound up in the forest and causing the deer to roll their eyes and stamp. She swiftly moved forward as well making it sound as if the whole pack were closing in on the deer and adding her own barks and howls to the air. Now it was Jiva’s turn to flush them towards his father to make this a successful hunt.

Alone now Jiva waited for the signal. He didn’t have to be told what it was as he knew already. The man started off with a bark or a call that wouldn’t alert the deer too much and when he heard it he also heard the noisemaker, nearly jumping out of his skin, but gave chase instead. He ran at one of the elder doe that had gotten herself confused in the frey of the small herd. He snarled and snapped at the doe, keeping to the side that did not have that rattling noise, driving the deer straight for Niro. This was what he loved, the thrill of the hunt, the speed the chase, the sight of their soon to be prized doe that would be Niro’s present to the pack leaders. Yes it would be a great hunt. He howled as he chased, though kept his sight on his prey. Snapping at her as he chased her closer to her death.

~~~~~~~
Niro spotted the woman shaking the can and making the noise, which was the offset of a beautiful start to a hunt. He watched his eyes on the doe he was sure Jiva would pick, and soon gave chase himself. The choice was correct. The elder doe who was slower and easier to catch. She had lived her life and he knew she would fight for it, but do what she could for her sister doe to get away. She was running straight for him and Niro took the dive in, going for her neck, snarling a hunting snarl, grabbing at her neck. He could feel that Jiva had swept at her flank and made her move suddenly, but that was good because as Niro clamped down on her throat she moved too quickly and her neck was in his full binding grip and she was suffocating. The kill was theirs and it had been quick. A near record, though Niro wasn’t keeping score. It was just good to do something with his son again. Once the doe had stopped fighting and lost the life in her he lifted his head grinning at Jiva and turning to Palaydrian and nodded to her as well
The trio made quick work of the deer. Palaydrian watched with fascination as her mate sped forward into the woods, choosing the target she would’ve chosen, and successfully driving the matriarch towards his father. The two Takekuro men worked fluidly together, movement matching one another while the yearling gave chase, and Niro became a vision of the future as he took down the doe with his powerful jaws. The siamese woman felt her heart swell for these two men in her life, Niro being an example of the wolf Jiva would become someday, and the red furred man a echo of what Niro’s past had once been. She loved them both for the impressive wolves they were and felt her eyes moisten as she ran forward to cheer on their victory. Her day couldn’t get any better!
Still rattling the cans, Drin threw her arms up and sang out a joyful song to Marahute soaring above. We did it! She shouted with happiness. This thing actually works, Drin said while laughing and looking to her mate’s father who was nodding at her. She placed the odd noise maker on a rock and ran over to Jiva, crouching down to ruffle his thick mane of wolf’s fur and nuzzling her nose in his cheek. It was odd being affectionate to him when they were in two different forms, but Jiva was her’s and no matter what form he took, she found him irresistible.
Casting her bi colored eyes to the fallen doe, Drin moved away from Jiva to rest her large hands on its side. The body was warm, but the heartbeat had ceased. This will be a fine prize for our alphas...and the hide would make an exceptional throw for them as well, she suggested, looking back to Niro. If they had one of the finest leather workers in their lands for the night, he might as well take the opportunity to gift more than one thing.
It was almost too easy as Jiva had distracted the deer and Niro had taken it down and Palaydrian made it believe there were far more of them than there actually was. It was amazing. He grinned up at his mate when she came excitedly talking and he wagged his tail, it curled high as she nuzzled into his cheek. He was so happy. To have his father and now a mate share the hunt with him. It was the best day he could ever have.
“Yes I think they will love it, and yeah that’s a good idea. It would be nice. I think we can make it into something like that.”
Jiva said he looked at his father. He beamed at the man with the now blood soaked muzzle. He loved his father and cherished him. He had always been envious of the man since he could remember. He hoped that the alpha’s would be ok with any pelt, if they weren’t Jiva knew it could be used for something else. He would not waste an animal if they could help it.
“So ready to get this back? I think we can find something to carry this up to the den and we can gut it there and give to the alphas.”
Jiva said, he looked from Drin to Niro. He knew that Drin would not be able to pick up the deer with him or she would hurt herself more but he was sure she knew what he meant about finding something. So did NIro and Jiva moved off to find a branch of sorts to be able to carry the deer. He knew they could have two small branches or even one large one because NIro always carried rope with him.
The adrenaline rush that the man had as he rushed forward to grab the deer and take her down was beginning to ebb away. He panted a little though not as much as his son who had done the footwork. He was grinning as the other two were, happy the hunt went so well. It would mean good luck to the pack. His tail wagged softly and lazily as the two spoke. He knew the thing would work but it was good to know that Drin was very happy to be a part of the hunt. He knew if she wasn’t able to do anything she would feel left out so he was glad to include her.
“Yes they are very handy in a pinch especially when only a few of us are hunting.”
He said. At Jiva’s request of a sorts he started looking for a branch. He found a tree to shift behind first and worked on looking for a good branch, his eyes watching as close as he could. His tail swayed faster when he saw something that would do well. It was an older branch so if one found some better he would discard it. Picking it up he dragged the branch to where the deer lay and got out his knife so that he can smooth the ends of the wood out. He was a carver in itself so it was nicer to be able to handle the smoother parts of a branch than the thick itchy bark.
WC :: 530:: After this jam packed wedding weekend (not mine, a friend’s), I feel like my muse is pretty much spilling over from not writing for so long! Love it!
The blonde woman was pleased and she all but glowed with the grin upon her maw and her hand upon the fallen doe. Jiva agreed with her idea of perhaps turning the old mother’s hide into something useful for the alphas and Niro seemed to be welcoming of this thought as well. She knew Zalen and Titania liked to uphold the more natural qualities in their pack as they were all wolves when it came down to it, but the woman was aware that both of her leaders used their Optime forms when necessary and they weren’t at all opposed with their members using it for an extreme humanized lifestyle. In the woman’s mind, gardening and leatherworking were just as natural as walking around on four legs. She was about to collect human weaponry or livestock that she heard some neighboring packs harbored, or even begin wearing the clothes she had heard so much about.
Her seal point ears flicked forward, perking at the conversation the men were holding about how they would get the prize back to New Dawn. Jiva’s suggestion seemed to spark something in Niro, and his father quickly moved off to shift and then began looking around. Drin cautiously followed the gray male, curious as to what he was up to when his hands pulled up a large branch. A flashback memory formed in her brain as the word fell off her lips, travois... her fingers moved to her mouth. How did she know this word? But even more, how did she know what this was? You will build something like a travois? She asked Niro, her eyes now filled with wonder at this explosion of realization. Her brow furrowed as a hand kneaded her forehead. Did Syliat show me this? The woman thought to herself as she joined Niro in the search for another large branch. They’d need two to criss cross somewhat at the top, the dear could lay across the two branches while the ends would drag on the ground, and the men could tie off the top to create a handle or harness for themselves to pull.
If Niro’s plan all along was to skewer the deer from mouth to rump, Palaydrian was about to teach both of the males something new. She came back with another large branch, roughly the size of Jiva’s father, and in one fist the woman held a few large fern leaves. These could be laid across the top of the branches were the load would be borne, in order to keep the deer from from snagging on anything or getting cut up by the forest undergrowth. The leaves would make something of a padded surface. One more thing, she said as she laid down her items and moved back into the surrounding to come back with a few smaller branches, but still thick in diameter. These could be tied to the large branches beneath the leaves to create the sturdy carrier for the deer carcass. Do you have rope? She asked, finally turning her attention back to Niro and Jiva.
WC: 239 OOC: The end!!! When you are done reading drin just have it requested to archive... unless you want me to change something ^^;
After successfully getting the wood the woman requested something, after asking what they were making. Shrugging Niro figured she wanted to be a part of it just a little more and he gave her the rope she requested. Jiva helped her with her instructions to make the sturdy contraption that would help them pull the deer up the hill and to the alphas. What Niro liked about it was it could be unassembled and tossed right back in the forest to become a part of nature again. After they got that done and the deer attached it was easy going as things could get with a windy afternoon and Niro was glad he would be staying the night. He was also glad he got such a nice doe for the two alpha’s as a thanks for letting him stay with little to no notice. As planned he would teach Palaydrian more stuff and Jiva and he would catch up on whatever they missed since the last time they saw him. It was a good night, one that the older man did not want to end. To see his son become mates with someone so good, it was nice, though he still wondered what her story was he hoped to find out eventually, but it was probably like him. He had secrets and the woman would probably keep it a secret to him as to what happened to her.
