Hoping to run into Saul again, Torok went back up north. He went through the town called Amherst and continued on, having not run into the man yet. Perhaps he could just continue on, see who he would run into. Fraya flew ahead of him and quickly returned, landing on his shoulder and chattering on about a young colt not too far ahead that was either hurt or very sick. He moved slowly, not wanting to frighten the young horse. It didn’t move as he approached but simply whinnied, calling for it’s mother, who seemed to be long gone. Perhaps she left or something happened to her, anything was possible. Torok reached a hand out calmly, attempting to show the colt that he wouldn’t be harmed.

Torok gently ran his hands across the foals body, trying to find the reason why he wouldn’t move. Feeling the colts ribs, Torok realized he was rather thin, possibly close to starving. His hands moved down to his legs and felt a small break in the front left leg. It was lucky that Torok had made some leather strips that would work to make a splint for the young horse. He stood and gathered a couple pieces of wood and placed them on either side of the colts leg and tied them in place with the strips. There you go little one, that feels better doesn’t it? He would still have difficulty walking for a little while. Perhaps Torok could care for him and keep him as a companion. Helping the colt stand, Torok led him a few steps, letting him get used to the splint and helping him learn to not put as much pressure on his left leg while it healed.

They were finally headed home. It was a fine feeling to have dealt with all of the other packs and understand to some degree how most viewed Sangi’lak. There was a reasonable amount of them who Jaden had guessed would be hesitant to listen because of things he had said and done to their members in the past. Most had at least heard him out before sending the nomad pair away. That was something. What else could really be asked for?

But the battle wasn’t over yet. Returning home meant facing his dearest friend; the wolf who he loved but had hurt him. He had hurt her as well, unknowingly or not it was true. There was no other reason for her actions. And since then he had realized that her anger for his mistreatment of X’ies was somewhat justified. It was something he would have to apologize for. He owed her that much but felt it wasn’t as bad as her actions had indicated. There was likely no heartfelt apology to come from his fellow leader, which is what would truly cure Jaden’s heart of all its ache, so what would happen between them when they finally saw each other once again was hard to say.

The path had been long though and impossible to dominate in one bout of walking. Presently both X’ies and Jaden had come to a rest. Jaden had left the diplomat in order to find a bit of time alone, away from the single soul he had spent the last few weeks with. He was successful in leaving the Lambda behind a bit but not at finding solitude. The whinnies of a young horse drew the obsidian man’s attention to the picture of another wolf helping it walk. He approached slowly but didn’t wait long before calling out. He had no desire to surprise either horse or tamer with his habitually quiet steps. Good day stranger. Are you in need of assistance?

Jaden does. Jaden speaks. Jaden thinks.
