The first building thread will be closed TOMORROW, but I figured life would be easier if this went on schedule! Once again, this will consist of TWO ROUNDS so we aren't here forever and this thread will be closed up on the 13th August.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

The Virding's mind was an unsettled and worrisome place since yesterday's meeting, or perhaps disaster, with Colibri. He'd practically ruined her life, but it had been necessary. Saul had been surprised when Colibri had asked him about his own experiences being a single parent, and the emotional response he'd had to it. Returning home to Lilin had been a relief, though it was the hardest thing to do not to tell her. He couldn't betray Coli like that, especially as she'd specifically asked not to tell anyone. His dreams had been fitful and he'd woken often in the night. When he'd finally woken just before the sky began to lighten for dawn, he'd kissed Lilin goodbye and risen properly. It was going to be a long day today and with the lack of sleep, it had been a logical thing to go for a hunt. After catching three rabbits, the young Stormbringer had consumed two, before moving back through Jordheim and leaving the last outside Colibri's door. He knew she wasn't eating properly, but he'd made a silent promise to properly provide for her regardless.

After checking the borders, and informing Temeraire that if he left Vinátta today he'd been in a whole heap of trouble, Saul had made his way towards the building site. Today was going to be long and labourous- the walls were going up. Processing the wood for this had taken a long while, but Saul was confident they had enough of it. The long planks were halved, so that one of the sides remained the rustic and curved edge of the tree, while the inside section was flat and would serve as an inner wall. The scalloped edge of the building would also provide some kind of waterproof. Saul had made sure that he'd collected the tree sap of the trees he'd felled before they came down- it would serve as a sealant when they were finished would would be brushed into each and every gap they could find so that the building held together as well as remained dry.

His plans were coming together and he explained what he planned to do to those that had gathered once again to help. They were to break off into pairs, taking a half of the plank each. After setting the plank down into the shallow ditch that had been left around the stone foundations, they would have to find some way of getting to the top of the plank to knock it down into the ground and therefore keep it in place. The planks would need to be set close to the stone foundations- it would be impossible to put the planks actually on the stones, they'd slide right off. Once all of the wooden planks were in, they would use the dirt they'd removed from the foundations to pack against the base of the wooden planks inside and out, thus giving strength to the upright position of the planks. Once enough sap had been lavished on the wood, between the cracks and around the frame for the windows and doors, it would hold together solidly.

With a decisive nod, Saul moved forward to begin handing out the planks for the large pile that had been made over the last week or so. He was pleased to see some of the planks were wider than others and would give variety to the appearance of the village hall. Once everyone was set up and knew what they were doing, the male moved forward, looking for another to help him slot in a wooden plank near the 'entrance' of the hall. He kept an ear out for anyone who might be confused or have a question for him, though he knew they were going to have to work harmoniously for most of the day to get all four walls up.

Urgh, this is a rubbish post. So sorry. 3 pts :: 307 ::

Nier had risen early and had made a quick patrol of the pack borders, practically sprinting, his secui form heavy but fast. Ciaran had elected to stay at home that morning, curling up in the warm spot that Niernans body had made in the night. As he passed the lake he felt the need to plunge into the clear, cold water and did so, his massive body making quite the splash as it impacted the water. He emerged, dripping wet, and finished his patrol, dashing back to his house to pick up some shorts and shift before making his way to the building site.

Upon arriving he stood and listened eagerly to Sauls instructions, running a hand-paw through his still wet head fur. Once Saul had finished his explanation he moved forward to lend his leader a hand, volunteering himself as partner to his cousin, helping him to hand out planks and then aiding him in the erection of one of the first panels to go up. Working with his cousin came naturally to him, falling into the fluid rhythm that the mutual trust allowed.

After they had the plank up the issue of hammering it into the ground arose, he stood with hand-paws on hips and looked at his cousin, neither of them were small men but it was obvious that one of them was going to have to scale the plank and apply power to the top, pushing it into the ground. He gave a crooked smirk and chuckled wryly, "You want me to go up and hammer it in?" He wasn't entirely sure of the method he would use, looking up at the top of the plank; there wasn't much room to manoeuvre, but he was sure he could figure something out, looking around for a hammer of some kind to help with the task.

OOC The data loss ate my post in the first building thread and my image hoster ate my table

A new morning had dawned as Sura's eyes peeked open at last. Usually in the mornings she struggled to drag herself out of bed. Even performing morning tasks like eating breakfast were tumultuous, as she had a habit of falling asleep on the table. One minute she'd be gazing bleary-eyed at her wake-up bacon, and the next she'd be sleeping on it. Heavens help her if breakfast happened to be runny eggs, stew, or porridge. Making her bed was equally exhausting, as one moment she'd be straightening the sheets and the next she'd find herself curled up snoozing in them, and have to start the process all over again.

This particular morning started out like any other, but upon hearing a commotion outside, she drug herself to her bedroom window to see. Instantly, she felt awake. Her breakfast was scarfed down as fast as her windpipe would allow. Her bed was made as fast as her paws could work, the dishes put into place so fast that her guardians wondered if she were trying to break them on purpose. And then with the swiftness of a gale-force wind, the door slammed shut behind her, leaving a trail of dust behind Sura's fast limbs propelling her forwards and onwards.

She watched from a safe distance. Now that they weren't "spoiling" meat by cooking it, and now that she wasn't so tired or grumpy, she felt confident she could lend her own paws in helping. First task was to hide all of the hammers. They were long objects with heavy devices on one end. If it fell, it could injure a paw! Sura would help everyone out by making sure no one hurt themselves.

She carried away all the hammers she could find, one by one, placing them under the shade of a dense mullberry bush. Sura hoped that the bush's heavy scent would mask that of the sweat and musk attached to each "hammer" that

Ezra had hidden himself away after his bear attack. He had gone back to see Wretch a few more times since that horrible day to change the dressings and make sure she was okay. The event had undoubtedly shaken up both of them, which worried him. Now that she was back where he could keep an eye on her he wanted to be her protector. She had actually, in fact, saved him from the bear doing any further damage to him, but Ezra still had a desire to watch over her. He didn’t want to see anyone until the wound was almost healed, and now that almost two weeks had gone by it was well-scabbed and healing nicely. He figured another pack appearance could happen a little earlier than normal, and Ezra was glad to remember the new building project Saul had set up for them all.

The optime man reached the grounds early, listening to what his alpha had said. Ezra nodded, and looked for someone he could partner up with. That was, until he saw that peculiar puppy that had bitten Wretch’s tail the last time she was around. How had no one noticed the little one taking all the hammers? He chuckled, though stopped promptly once the strain on his face made his disfigurement hurt. This was going to be a long recovery. My dear, the Hollr said behind the Aeska’s back, intending to spook her, We will need those today, do you mind if I have them back? My son has lots of toys, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you had one of those instead, Ezra kept his voice pleasant and calm, hoping to have a peaceful exchange with the girl. Besides, Eli was almost grown now, he didn't need chew toys as much anymore. Ezra just hoped the massive soon-to-be-scar on his face wouldn't scare her away.

OOC here!

Desolation stained the inside of his soul and collected in the pit of his stomach whilst on the outside he appeared calm and cool, observing the land and figures around him with a barely forced interest. He knew what facial expressions he was supposed to be projecting and managed to twist his face into a semblance of those even if he could feel nothing inside. He watched wishing he could feel amusement as the little girl proceeded to waddle off with the hammers they would need and the humor as one of Saul's pack snuck up behind her.

He resigned himself to his misery and set about silently chipping out his own workspace as others began to arrive too. The optimed male would work with whoever asked although he doubted he would provide much interesting company. He heaved and pushed to try and get his log into place, for now working solely on his own. A few times his paws slipped and he had to employ his claws to prevent himself dropping them. He hoped that someone would take the initiative to help him for the pure white boy did not think he could manage the courage to ask for the help he required.

Sura felt a bit of solace in what she'd done. With the hammers safely in the shade of the scraggly bush she'd found, they would be hidden away here, as would all possibility of injury or dissension. Or at least, that's what Sura believed. Part of her motivations were genuinely pure, but the other part was a muddle of grays, the mixture of confusion, imagination, and everything else that could inhabit the fuzzy skull of hers.

She felt she had gotten away with it all, so in the shade of any possible attention, she breathed a sigh of relief, as she felt she hadn't been seen or noticed in her grandeur notions. But when a scarred and perhaps grizzly looking man approached her hidey-spot, her muscles tensed up. The man had husky markings and emanated self confidence.

"Toys! I'm not a baby! Wolves don't play with toys! Wolves are strong and works all the times!" , she found herself shouting at the man who made her feel small, insignificant, childish, and above all frightened. Her hackles had bristled in alarm and her feet found her dashing away, leaving the hoarde of tools In reality, what she had shouted was merely a reflection of her own struggles with self-identity, inheritance, and the lack of usefulness she felt. She wanted to do what the adults did but she couldn't possibly manipulate anything with just her paws and mouth in mere lupine form.

Still upset, she doubled back and uttered the most fearsome growl she could muster as she re-entered the bush, grabbed a single hammer, and drug it away running as fast as she could. Her growl wasn't out of disrespect but merely a summoning of her own courage, and her way of indicating that she was hardly playing. Though this time, the handle in her mouth, the hammer portion dragging a trail, she headed towards a male who seemed to be working slower than the others.

Sura grabbed right below the hammer portion with her mouth and began to jab her nose towards a plank of wood, creating a hammering effect - one that could have easily hit Honrin.

Sura leaves all but one hammer, and tries to hammer too, in lupine form, nearly (or perhaps) bumping into Honrin.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Niernan's eagerness to get going was a spur in the right direction and Saul couldn't help the grin he sent his cousin. Though Bran had initially been the more skilled of the two, Niernan had persevered and helped on many occasions with building projects. He remembered, with a sweet smile, their afternoon building the base to the treehouse that Saul had wanted as a playhouse for Temeraire and Elias, but a lookout for the rest of them. They'd only managed to get the base done before bigger and better plans eclipsed these small notions, but he was glad he'd had Niernan's help. Between the two of them, they erected the first plank, gripping the rounded edge that would go on the outside to make the scalloped edges to the village hall. Once it was up- and a good few inches over their heads though not overly tall, Niernan stepped back and grabbed a hammer. He wasn't certain what the best way to get up there and hammer the plank down so that it was sturdy. Verbalising his thoughts, Saul looked across at Niernan and nodded softly. There's a tree stump over in the pile of planks- you could stand on that to reach the top? Saul offered with a grin.

After that, they managed to harmonise their actions and it didn't take long for the front of the hall to be completed. Of course, it was easier to do when they left a huge gap for the double doors that would reside there soon. Ezra's polite words alerted Saul to the slight commotion, before Sura's reply caused a frown to mar the Virdings lips. Sura was in the care of Nahyt and Hael, but it didn't seem like they were doing anything to teach the girl manners or discipline. Making a note to visit the siblings in the future to discuss their ward, Saul watched as the dark girl charged towards Honrin, who was really struggling with his own plank. In some ways, Saul wished the boy would open up a little more, converse with the builders around him. But it was clear he was either too introverted or there was something wrong. The male didn't want to push it however and kept a quiet eye on him.

The rhythm of their building began to flow easily, the mutual helping each other. Breaks were well earned and Saul was happy enough to let them rest often. It was just beginning to get dark when the last plank was hammered in place and Saul grinned at their accomplishment. Four walls stood strong, a handful of inches above his head. With hesitant steps, he moved forward to press firmly against the wall, testing how well they were standing. After an initial give on most planks, that Saul reassured himself would be fixed when the removed earth was packed back in, he was satisfied with their work. Turning to the remaining builders, he thanked them warmly before making a move towards home and Lilin.
