Today marked the day that Kohaku turned six months old. Six months ago, he had been with his hated mother and sister. Six months ago, he had been small and helpless. Now, he was almost fully grown. The pup no longer held the extremely disproportionate look that younger canines had. Although, his ears were still a little too big for his body, it was clear that Kohaku wouldn't get too much bigger. The colorful pup was already thirty inches tall, but his body was still lean and lanky. It would take several more months for him to fill out and grow into his new stature. The growing pains had all but stopped, and Kohaku looked forward to the day that he would stop teething.

Emerald eyes watched the world from underneath Amy's wagon. They were back home for some rest and relaxation before starting off again on their journey. Kohaku felt slightly on edge as his eyes scanned the abandoned city. What if his mother and her pack had tracked them all the way home? What if they tried to take him away? Kohaku's tail flicked slightly and felt the overwhelming urge to chew pass over him as the ache in his gums grew worse.

Amy was no where to be found, probably with the infant again. Amy always paid attention to Lucias and Kohaku hated it. Why did she get such special attention? All she did was eat, sleep, cry, and poop. There was nothing good about her, yet it was clear that Amy lover her more than she loved him. Although the boy was sure that the golden dog wouldn't abandon him, just that conviction was no longer enough. His gaze strayed to the spokes of the wagon wheel. One spoke had small dents in it where Kohaku had chewed on it when he was a few months younger. Amy had yelled at him and had punished him severely for damaging her wagon.

Slowly, but surly, Kohaku came to a very dumb and insane decision. He crawled over to the wheel and found the very spoke that he had damaged earlier. Opening up his jaw, the pup bit down on the wooded spoke. Instant relief swelled through him and Kohaku sagged a little as he began to happily chew on the wheel. The sensation was thrilling and the pup's heart pounded in his chest as he waited for the inevitable.

The pup was six months old now. The age when normal pups would begin to shift. Unfortunately Kohaku was flawed. He wasn't infected with the virus, and couldn't shift. Not without help, at least. She had spent some time planning out what she would do when this date arrived. A target had been tracked down, and she'd made sure that he was in range when the date came. Lucias was settled, pup sitting duty given over to Adara for the day. She could trust the slave to at least not screw that up.

Her outfit was clean, a vibrant red shade that was almost pure crimson. Jean shorts wrapped around her lower frame, with only a golden bracelet on one arm, along with a few of her daggers placed with care around her body so that they would be handy to grab. Feeling prepared for what she had planned out for her Kohaku Amy stepped out of the house, only to find his teeth securely fastened around a wheel of the wagon.

Fury swelled through her, muscles tense. Storming forwards Amy moved to smack him hard. Kohaku! Her hand lowered swiftly before she halted, stopping just a couple inches in front of Kohaku. No, there was something better than that. Clearly, you're not responsible enough for the gift I had planned to give to you today. Something that had been just for him. Lucias wouldn't have experienced such a thing. She was luperci, and female. Kohaku was not.

Kohaku had done his best to put the glaring truth out of his mind. He didn't want to think about the curse his mother had bestowed upon him. One thing that the pup desired was to stand tall and proud by Amy side. He wanted to have hands that could lift objects or to be able to run faster than he ever could. Kohaku often dreamed of becoming a luperci, but he didn't know how.

Sure enough, just as he had predicted, Amy was not happy with his actions. She strode up to him, her bright crimson shirt making her look more terrifying than usual. It looked like she had dipped it in someones blood, even if it didn't smell that way. Emerald eyes strayed to the knives on her hip and he suddenly regretted ever thinking of chewing on her wagon. What punishment would she give him? Releasing the post, Kohaku practically shrank into the earth. His ears were flat against his head and his tail was curled underneath his soft, alabaster belly. Kohaku let loose a series of apologetic whines, but it didn't stay Amy's hands.

The golden dog yelled at him, fury clear in her voice. Her hand descended towards him and Kohaku closed his eyes and stiffened his body in preparation for the blow. He waited, and waited for his punishment to start, but it didn't come. Amy hadn't hit him. Confused, Kohaku slowly opened his eyes and whispered a tentative whine. When Amy spoke, he couldn't believe his ears. A present? For him? And he had just blown it.

Instincts kicking in, Kohaku crawled forward a little on his belly and leaned up to apologetically lick Amy's fingers. "I'm sorry. I'm responsible, please don't take my gift away." It was so rare that he received gifts from Amy, and the colorful pup coveted each one just as he coveted her smile.

OOC STUFFS HERE!

Kohaku curled up, pulling back away from Amy. He crouched down, soft whines attempting to apologize. He had been told! She'd caught him chewing on the wagon before and had been hit. Didn't it go through his thick skull that he wasn't to do that? Apparently not. His entire body was stiff, crouched against the ground as he waited for his punishment. It was only once she started talking again that he dared to open his eyes and even look over at her. The whine didn't sway Amy, furious at his actions. He would have to prove himself now.

The licks against her fingers were soft, his words doing their best to penetrate through her cold heart. Perhaps you're not ready for it. You still act like a child. This gift isn't for a child. It was one to mark a change in his life. For him to be ready to start forwards, and live a certain way. It meant more than just having manners, and acting sweet. It was time to put feral things behind him. Didn't he get that in the slightest? She sighed, letting her hand pet him a little. I had hoped for you to be ready today. If she had to put it off it would be more difficult.

Kohaku didn't want to disobey Amy, he just wanted to relieve the pain in his gums. He knew he wasn't supposed to chew on her wagon, but it wasn't like he had damaged another wheel. Besides, he had been careful not to bite too hard. Sure, there were a few extra dents, but he was better at controlling his strength. And, besides, it was Amy's fault for not paying enough attention to him. If she had been watching him, she could have said no earlier.

Amy's accusatory eyes continued to pierce the male, unswayed by his apologies and submission. Crushed by her rejection, Kohaku whined again. "I'm not a child. I can handle the present, I swear. I wont bite on the wagon again, I'll pick a tree next time or... or not bite at all! I'm ready! Please!" Green eyes shifted as he looked over Amy, trying to tell if his words had broken through her armor. Would she believe him? Would she give him his gift, or take it away before he could ever see it?

The words pierced his heart, she wouldn't give it to him. Standing tall and defiant, Kohaku tried one last time. He raised his head and tail, ears erect as he showed off his growth. The pup had grown big, or bigger, in his six months of life, and still had some more growing to do. "I'm ready."

OOC STUFFS HERE!

His soft cries would have been hard for anyone else to ignore. Amy just waited for him to prove himself, to show that he wouldn't be making that mistake again. He pleaded like a child, doing nothing to prove that he was ready for what she was going to give him. It was disappointing. She'd been truly looking forwards to this day. His promises were weak, none of the iron strength that she'd tried to instill in him showing. She began to turn, pausing at his last movement. He was still a youth, but in that moment he showed that he could be more, that he would one day be the one she'd worked so hard to form.

Smiling she knelt down, looking him in the eyes. That's what I was waiting for. The maturity to stand up, and be prepared, and not make those mistakes. Her eyes flickered back to the wagon wheel, shaking her head. Don't do it again. Turning she lifted her head, scenting for where her target was. He couldn't have gotten too far, a creature of habit. Alright, let's get your present. I'm taking you on your first hunt. Eyes gleaming with pride she walked out, senses opened and tracking the poor targeted male that would be today's sacrifice.

It really wasn't in his nature to be cruel or cold to anyone. Kohaku was a pup borne from a mother who didn't have a cruel bone in her body. She had raised him for the first two months of his life and had instilled on him her gentle nature. Despite his four months with Amy, Kiara's touch had yet to fully be taken from him. There was still a part of the pup that refused to give up his heart, despite how much Kohaku wanted to give it away. Yet, Amy had done something to him. When trying to be kind didn't work, he turned to her training and rose up to his full, skinny height. Kohaku was a prince among wolves, and he wanted to be treated like one.

Amy kelt to his level, her amber eyes staring him in the face as she spoke approving words. That was it. Just like she had always taught him, he needed to take what he wanted and let no one trample on him. Kohaku gave a quick nod, emerald eyes fierce as he puffed out his chest a little. After giving him one last bit bit of lecture, she turned and tested the air. Kohaku cocked his head, wondering if they were going to hunt. Although the boy had learned how to hunt in recent months, he knew for a fact that Amy couldn't, so her behavior confused him.

Raising his own muzzle to the sky, Kohaku took in deep gulps of air and let the different scents was over him. It was faint, but there was definitely the scent of another canine. Amy spoke of hunting, and Kohaku finally got it. Just like his first lesson, they were going to hunt another wolf. Kohaku's tail began to wag as he remembered that time and quickly feel in step behind his golden teacher.

Kohaku breathed in the scent, locating the canine with ease. The poor male wouldn't have a clue what hit him. She followed along, making sure to pause and keep his scent in mind, wanting Kohaku to know how she was doing this and manage to do it on his own. Her path over the worn ground, small flecks of grass poking through the scarred landscape was made difficult to track. You must never let your prey be aware of the fact that they are being hunted. Amy's voice was low, little more than a whisper made for his ears. Finding the killer of the poor canine they were following would be difficult if done properly.

The campsite came into view. It was a hybrid with a messy coat, patches of yellow and brown intermingling over his body. He was just relaxing, whistling as he walked through. There was almost no coverage over this distance, just a few scraggly trees and a couple wooden buildings that were half collapsed. They rarely expect to be hunted, but you must act as if they do. If you lose the surprise, they will run. Of course, it can be fun to chase after them, but I need to make sure you can do this on your own first. She smiled happily down at Kohaku, enjoying the hunt and the company of the pup she'd raised.

Straightening Amy looked the male over again. Try to keep him from seeing you, but don't act conspicuous. Move forwards with as much confidence as you can muster. If he runs, go for his legs, and tear them out. If he doesn't attempt to run, you can hit his stomach, and try to tear out his guts from there. He will fight back, but don't let it distract you. Deflect his blows as you can and keep hitting. Taking a deep breath Amy's tail wagged. I'll be behind you, but this is your hunt. Good luck.

In an instant, the hunt had begun. It wasn't a normal hunt like the ones that Kohaku went on. This would be the challenge of a lifetime, hunting another canine. Ironically enough, Amy was a master at it. Yet, for Kohaku, it was his first time. But rather than be nervous, he was excited. The pup felt as if his body was on fire and his every sense tingled as they locked onto their target. Kohaku eagerly followed behind Amy, one ear turned to her while the other listened for their prey.

Soon enough, the campsite of he hybrid that they tracked came into view. Emerald eyes studied the stranger, eying his messy coat and splashed of color. An off key tune traveled towards the pair and helped to mask any noise that they made. Instinctively, Kohaku ducked low to the ground, his ears straining forward as he watched the canine with a hunters eye. Blood pounded through his body and his muscles tensed. One brightly colored ear flicked towards Amy as she began to whisper again, giving him instructions and tips. Kohaku didn't dare say anything and he just gave a curt nod. His green eyes never left the stranger.

At her command, Kohaku began to move, his body slowly moving behind a half collapsed building. It provided little cover, but allowed Kohaku to get just a little closer. Remembering what Amy said, the pup forced himself to stand. He took a deep breath to allow his tensed muscles to relax and began to move as if he didn't have a care in the world. Somehow, it was easy, almost natural. A toothy smile parted his lips and his tongue dripped out of his mouth and flopped like a dead fish as he moved at an easy lope.

However, the pup didn't get very far before being spotted. The mutt had turned around and was staring straight at him. Kohaku froze, unsure of what to do next. His mind reeled as he tried to keep himself from just charging the other. Forcing himself to relax, Kohaku strode forward and even added in a wagging tail just for good measure. "Hey. What brings a pup like ya' out he'er by yo'self?" The mutt had no sense of danger, and seemed to easily except the charming puppy's sudden appearance. Realizing that he had a sudden advantage, Kohaku made his smile even bigger as he stared up at the luperci.

"Nothin. Just out hunting." A question came onto the hybrid's face and he looked around curiously. Even as inexperienced as he was, Kohaku knew that the area would prove to have hunting for normal prey. Inches closed as the pup strode forward, suddenly becoming bolder and more confident. His deep green eyes shone with mischief, something that only made the strange male more confused. The gap was just about closed when the mutt turned suspicious. His muscles tensed and an unease seemed to envelop him. Suddenly worried that his prey might run, Kohaku bunched his muscles lunged for the other legs.

Some blood trickled into Kohaku's mouth as he wounded the other's leg. A pained howl broke through the ruins, crashing the silence and scattering several birds. A fist came down, landing directly on Kohaku's head, making the pup yelp as he stumbled back a bit in pain. Shaking his head, the pup lunged again, catching the male by the arm. Kohaku managed to bring his claws up, scratching at the other belly as he drew more blood with his fangs. Growling, the pup hung on as more and more blows landed on his back and head.

With pride Amy watched Kohaku move forwards. His movement wasn't as graceful as it should have been, caught between the natural hunting stride of a wolf and that of the killer she hoped to teach him to become. It was still much better than other canines might have managed. Her careful schooling had enhanced the viral nature she'd seen in him, and now his talent was showing. Hanging back Amy moved forwards, her own movement much better concealed. She was far enough back that the attention would remain on Kohaku, but she'd still be able to move fast enough to step in if Kohaku needed it.

The hunt was almost ruined right at the start. Amy's body tensed, moving to grasp one of her daggers so she could take down the canine. The foolish child had simply frozen up, despite her warnings. Canines were not normally hunted after all, and they reacted differently from prey animals. She'd failed hunting deer and the like often enough to understand that. Kohaku's youth disarmed the hybrid luckily, and the pup was smart enough to manipulate it and begin gliding forwards once more to close the distance. Relieved Amy kept up. It wouldn't have been the same if Kohaku had needed her help to close the kill.

His movement was masterful. As soon as Amy's gift turned to begin to run Kohaku was there, biting and tearing him down. Just like Amy had warned he fought back, but even that didn't stop Kohaku. Laughing with delight she rushed up, watching her dear pup deliver the blows. Careful now, you don't want to lose too much of his blood. She wanted him to drink as much of it as he could. Coming close she smiled at the hybrid, crouched low to the ground. Kill him as quickly as possible. Then you'll have your present. The hunt was fun, but the real prize was the changes that the kill would bring.

The battered pup barely heard Amy's words, the pounding of blood and almost complete concentration blocked out nearly everything. However, he had been trained well and could at least understand what she was saying, even if he didn't remember what she had said exactly. Kohaku gave a muffled woof, one that was cut off as another fist descended on his muzzle. Wincing, Kohaku decided to let go and try for a better position

Sharp fangs slid out of flesh and the pup dropped to the ground. Immediately, he bunched his muscles and jumped, aiming for the other's throat. The hybrid was able to grab onto Kohaku's shoulders, keeping the pup from reaching his target. Yet the force of Kohaku's jump caused them both to topple to ground. With the other underneath him, Kohaku began a relentless assault. His bloodied muzzle snapped viciously as he tried to get a grip on the other's throat. The pup's hind legs began to claw at his target, causing minor scratches would quickly add up. Growls filled the air as Kohaku's snapping jaws inched closer to the other. He could feel the hybrid shaking from fear, pain, and exhaustion.

A sense of victory came over the pup as his opponent began to visibly tire. Kohaku was not a small pup, and thanks to his mother he outweighed most pups his size. With one last lunge, Kohaku finally managed to reach his target. A blood curtailing scream shocked the air as the young hunter began to rip and tear at the tender flesh. It wasn't long before the body below him stopped moving. Kohaku stopped himself, his jaws still around the other's neck as he waited for any signs of life to appear. When none came, Kohaku stepped back. His body was bruised and had been cut in several places. Blood stained his maw and a wild look shone in the boy's eyes. Shivers ran down his body as he stood over the lifeless form. He had done it, he had really done it. Sure, he was worse for the wear, but all of Amy's training had paid off and he had succeeded in his mission.

The male took a brief glance at Amy, realizing that she was involved. Why wasn't she helping him? Had she trained the pup to do this? Cruelly Amy smiled, letting Kohaku continue his relentless pursuit. His actions were sure, the time spent training him in how to fight on four legs now paying off. It hadn't been more than the basics, as they didn't have much time, but Kohaku could fight. Slowly the older wolf grew more tired, Kohaku refusing to cease attacking though she knew that he had to be just as weary under the assault.

The body finally fell limp, Amy kneeling down and stroking against Kohaku. You have done so well! I'm proud of you. Leaning over she licked at the blood that was flecked on Kohaku's body. She'd use the poultices in her wagon to patch him up once they got back. Moving over to the kill Amy moved fast, grabbing one of the pans that the dead male had laying around the campsite. Tilting the dead body she let the blood flood out, draining him. Occasionally she added another cut or changed the position, filling it up. Looking in she smiled. Yes, there was enough.

Placing the pan down she moved to Kohaku again, petting him and giving him all the affection that she could. You are such a good boy. A powerful warrior. And now, you're old enough. With your first kill, I can make you into a luperci like me. All you have to do is drink his blood. Nudging the pan forwards she smiled, excited to see it unfold. He would be able to shift, and she could teach him so many more things. Hopefully it would remove his stubborn wild streaks as well, letting him become cultured.

There he was, dead. Kohaku's prey, another canine, was dead. He had done it. He had passed Amy's test! A hand began to run along his spine as words of praise swelled towards the pup. The boy looked at Amy, his body still shaking from the fight. It had been his first real fight and was almost nothing like the practice fights that he and Amy had done. It was more intense, more frightening, and ten times more tiresome. Kohaku felt like his legs had turned into mush and could barely hold his weight.

Kohaku didn't move as Amy licked at the blood that littered his body. Some of it was the other's, some of it his own. With a great amount of patience, the pup was able to put up with Amy's patch job. The poultices smelled funny, but that was usual. When Amy was done, Kohaku sunk to the ground. The pounding in his ears had subsided and he watched weakly as Amy worked with the dead male. Curiosity flooded the pup's emerald eyes as he observed the golden female's strange behavior. Why was she collecting the blood?

Too tired to speak, Kohaku watched and waited for an explanation. When Amy finally came over, her words weren't what he had expected to hear. Standing slowly, Kohaku looked at her in disbelief. He could become a shifter? He could stand on two legs like her? Excitement swelled up in the boy and his tail began to wag. He looked down at the bowl, staring at the red liquid as if it were the elixir of life. Eagerly, Kohaku dipped his head and took a big lap of the blood. The iron taste didn't bother him, but there was a strange quality to the blood that made Kohaku gag.

His whole body shuddered as the taste of canine coated his tongue, making the pup reel his head back in disgust. He eyed the bowl as if it had just grown legs and was dancing around. How could he drink the hybrid's blood? Looking to Amy, he saw her bi-pedal form. It was so amazing, the most amazing thing he had ever seen. All he had to do to obtain that was to drink the blood. Looking back down, Kohaku made a disgusted face, wrinkling his muzzle as he smelled the distinct scent of canine. Taking a big breath, Kohaku dove his entire muzzle in and began to furious lap the blood out of the bowl. Each swallow made him want to heave, but he forced himself to drink the entire bowl. When at last, the blood was gone, Kohaku wilted onto the ground, whimpering as the foul tasted numbed his tongue. "Gross."

Kohaku looked delighted, if exhausted from his first real fight. That was fine. He'd get better as he grew older, and be able to kill many more. This was just the first in a long line, Amy knew it. She let him rest for a short time as she fixed up the dead body and drained out his blood. Once it was ready she knelt down, continuing to pet Kohaku. She was truly proud of him, and wanted him to know that. What more could she do to show her pride than to give him the gift of two legs? He would appreciate it, Amy knew it.

Kohaku lapped at it at first, but suddenly backed away. The blood tasted fine to Amy, so she could only surmise that he could taste the disease in it. It's alright. Go on. Kohaku returned to the bowl, brown eyes glimmering with excitement as he lapped it down. Once it was empty she moved over, again petting Kohaku again and again with a bright gleam of joy in her eyes. I know, but this will let you shift. You've earned this, Kohaku. You are a prince, and you'll be one of the most powerful canines in this world. She leaned down, planting a kiss on his muzzle before straightening up again. Need to rest here?

Drinking wolf's blood was an absolutely horrid idea. He could practically taste the hybrid, its scent permitted his nose and made him want to gag. Canine blood was not like prey blood, it did not fill him with a warm feeling nor did it satisfy his hunger. Instead, Kohaku felt sick and disgusted at the very thing that would give him what he wanted most. The pup had to practically choke down the blood, and when he was finished, all he wanted to do was curl up and go to sleep. Kohaku didn't want to do anything.

When the ordeal was finally over, Amy showered the pup with praise. Her auburn eyes glittered with pride and excitement, while her soft, warm hands gently soothed his back. She petted him over and over again as her words filled his tired ears. Amy was so happy, almost infectiously so. Kohaku looked at her weakly, his tail wagging slightly as he basked in her praise. Leaning down, she planted a kiss on his muzzle. Before she backed away, Kohaku was able to get a few licks of his own on her. She was right, he was a prince and one that would soon be able to shift.

When Amy offered some time to rest, Kohaku couldn't be happier. He nodded silently, as soft smile on his face. With a sudden urge to be close to his mother, Kohaku dragged himself up and crawled partially into her lap. He was to big to fit there anymore and could only manage to get his paws and head onto her legs. In an instant, the pup was asleep, dreaming of his first shift.

OOC STUFFS HERE!

The licks that were planted on her drew a smile from Amy. He would be kissing soon enough when he gained his optime form, and she might even miss those licks of his, showering affection on her. It wasn't often that they had close moments. Amy just wasn't a very close natured being. His perseverance wore her down though, and she would bask slightly whenever he gave her the praise that she craved as much as she did power. She knew she was fabulous, and living with someone who worshiped her only enforced that further.

She did stiffen at Kohaku's decision to use her as a pillow. He crawled right up, and despite his size made himself right at home in her lap. Sighing she rubbed at his ears. Oh well. He'd done good today. He deserved a little reward. She'd go easy on him for now. Smiling fondly Amy gazed down at the embodiment of her revenge. He was perfect.
