Word Count → 419 :: 28th. Keldava is close by her house

For the first time in quite a while Keldava had a good reason to be happy about something; Gina was going to be stopping with her! It was only for a night or two, sure, but it had been so long since Keldava had spent an extended amount of time with her sister – or woken up to a scent that wasn’t her own - that Keldava was practically bouncing off the walls in excitement.

The house was as prepared as it was ever going to get – the fireplace was well stocked, extra furs had been used to expand the sleeping area for two, some fresh kill was ready for Gina to eat, everywhere was tidy – and Keldava still had energy to burn and so had absconded outside to try and calm herself down before Gina arrived.

That was where she found herself now, standing in a fighting stance in front of a vaguely Luperci shaped log that she had set up. Her sword was held in front of her in a loose two-handed grip. For the first time in ages – since well before she actually got the sword - Keldava’s right hand was good enough to hold her sword. It was far from prefect and even now with this loose grip she could feel the muscles in her hand cramping and twitching with a mild pain; heavens forbid she tried to punch anybody with it.

Still it would serve for now. The girl had done some one-handed work with her sword in the left hand – the bastard sword was heavy when used in one hand but it was perfectly possible, that was the whole point of it after all – but she was naturally right handed so eventually when she could that was what she’d be using for one handed work. Her hand was still too weak for that but she could do some light two handed work instead. Grinning happily Keldava set to work.

Keldava must have spent over half an hour hacking away at the target, first gently and then slowly harder and harder as she got into the rhythm of it. Several times her sword was knocked from her weak hand when she hit too hard by accident but Gina’s impending visit had Keldava in a good enough mood as to forestall the outburst that would normally cause so instead she carried on, hacking and slashing, occasionally feinting backwards and parrying the sword of an invisible enemy, happily burning away her energy while she waited for Gina.

out of character

Ovi had promised to keep an eye on Taru for tonight. The plan had been rather spontaneous, just chatting when Dalgina realized how much she missed being around her sister and asked to stay the night. Keldava had agreed, and now Dalgina found herself with a case of the butterflies. They were close, spending time together everyday and talking about everything under the sun. Some subjects were skirted, such as where Keldava had been during the hurricane and family, but everything else was mentioned. Dalgina had even brought out a sketch she'd drawn of Keldava as a warrior. It was a darker piece, desperation in her sister's eyes as she stood and battled the shadows that encroached on her. Dalgina still thought her sister would like it.

She was a little nervous heading over. Keldava was living by herself. What if she felt that Dalgina was an intrusion? Dalgina liked sleeping with her family around her, even if they weren't related by blood, but Keldava might have adapted to the lifestyle of living alone. Maybe she was just humoring Dalgina, and still thought her as weak. Dalgina could fight with knives now though, and had been practicing. She wasn't so weak that she couldn't defend herself anymore. She could take care of herself, and had supported Taru and Papa when they'd needed someone to lean on. It had been hard, but she had grown strong. Even if she felt the callouses on her heart where she had been forced to grow up too quickly.

Slowing down she watched as her sister worked with her sword, the blade occasionally bouncing out of her sore hand. At least Keldava was regaining the use of that muscle. She stayed there for some time, worried about interrupting. It was only when Tehu decided she'd been standing still long enough and bit her that Dalgina let out a small yelp and started forwards. Hi. It looks good. She nodded her head towards the sword. Hesitating a little she drew out the art. I thought you might like this.
