informal pack hunt; no true posting order… lets just let it flow

on the menu; white tail

yay, so join!!!

max; 4, please!

At the end of the day, they were all just wolves. Despite the evolutionary differences that they held compared to their ancestors, they all had those fundamental needs. The most prime and important was the hunt. It was the reason for them coming together and forming the packs and was the cornerstone of their structure. When it all boiled down, it was their ability and instinct to work together that kept them safe and allowed their families to grow. Running, tracking and killing was the best example of such teamwork.

It started with the smallest of urges, a growling stomach, a short daydream, or even an odd craving. One such thing brought her to her paws, her nose searching for any close and immediate meals. The storage was close to empty, and even if she had found something there she was looking for something different, not leftovers.

She exited the cellar, blue eyes ignoring all that stood in her way and heading for the door. Her mind was focused, and thoughts primal in every way. The tawny fey was not one for fishing, corralling her prey, or raising any type of food. She was blood thirsty, and her thin legs begged to be stretched. There was nothing left to do then surrender.

West, out into the night she roamed with a full and heavy moon to guide her. Keen eyes made the setting bright and the going as easy as high noon. She let the mansion fall behind her, entering the wooden territory that surrounded her home. The brisk fall night sent a small chill down her spine, as a stormy breeze teased and tempted, the air was light, and rain was far off, but still it threatened. With the wind came the scents of ahead, a mixture of her pack boundaries, dry leaves and even the faintest fragrance of a pending meal.

Her head fell backward, parallel to the tall trees that surrounded her. Her call was low and long, reaching the tops of the trees and their swaying limbs. It searched for the wind to take it to the ears of her family. The simple sound would reach any that stood within their boundaries, calling to their deep and rooted urge. It would surface, clawing out and demanding that they meet their packmate.

Big Grin

They were still looking for a real place to stay, but Naniko wasn't worried. Winter was long in coming, and wouldn't be taking the lands for another month or two, and the mansion was warm enough for the pups until they found something permanent. The puppies were getting around a little bit, beginning to scoot around with their front paws. They had opened their eyes a few days prior. Naniko had laid down to feed them an hour before, but when she heard the howl her ears pricked up. She had only heard Anu howl once or twice before, but she definitely recognized the call....a hunt. And this wasn't one that the mother would miss.

She gave each sleeping whelp a lick on the head before nudging the closet door open, heading into the kitchen. Naniko concentrated, and in a few minutes she stood in her optime form. She hadn't hunted in a group in such a long time, it felt. The last time she had been offered to hunt she hadn't gone because of her pregnancy.

The green eyed wolf started to run, reaching the area that the howl had come from within a couple of minutes. She had already guessed at the howl's owner's identity, and it only affirmed it when her mate came into view. "Hey" She greeted casually, grinning.

I is here! :O

Evening had already fallen over the lands, and the Lieutenant General had already returned to her room on the first floor of the mansion. She was sprawled out on her bed, letting her mind wander wherever it chose to. Green orbs were focused on something distant and not in the room. Then a howl pierced the still night air. Eyes came back to the here and now and her head lifted, ears alert. It was Anu...and she was calling for a hunt. She stood up on her bed and lowered her head, shaking a bit so the delicate silver chain would fall onto the mattress. Once the gift from her love was off her neck she exited her room and the manor to start in the direction of her packmate.

Savina moved swift as a shadow through the darkened forest. A night run was her favorite, so a night hunt suited her just perfectly. Heart beat healthily in her chest as her four paws pounded the earth. Soon her vision caught the images of Anu and Naniko. Her tail began to wag as she walked up to the mates. "Good evening you two." She gave each an affectionate nudge with her muzzle.

The young male had been working on a project of his for the majority of the afternoon and evening. It was a music stand. He had started out by nailing a nice solid 4 foot tall rectangular prisim to a inch thick square base then sepereatly attaching a second inch thick square piece to a two inch wide regtangular piece for the actual stand. From there he had taken a pencil and drawn the rough outline of what he wanted in the end, it would be beautiful once he was finished. After dinner he had decided to relax for the evening, taking a book from his shelf and jumping onto his pile of furs and pillows to read a simple childrens story. They were always so interesting to read, full of twist and lessons.

His ears twitched towards the forest at a howl. He jumped to his feet. Could it be Garnet!? A look of half dissapointment came to him as he realized it was Anu but after the howl finished his large smile returned. A hunt! Finally there was something exciting to do to keep him busy. He started to shift to his halfling form, preffering to never return fully to a regular wolf's size for it was to defencless. As he fell to the floor and shortened his legs slightly he padded the floor glade he hadn't been wearing his shorts completly forgetting about them. He looked over to his shelf where his knife belt lay and sighed, he'd save the sword hunting for another day. Starting down the steps he cought Naniko's scent. He went out the door and started towars the orgin of Anu's voice, Savina and Naniko's scents. Stoping as he approched the three females he let out a chuckle, "Evening ladies, what's on the menu?"

Kansas rose from the couch he'd been resting on, unsteadily jumping to the floor. It was difficult in his four-legged form to stand straight on the lumpy cushions. He hadn't been sleeping - he slept so well at night that he rarely napped during the day, even in his most relaxed of moods. The young male had been roused by a call he knew well but had never answered to. He was always moping shamefully about how he never participated in pack activities. This was a perfect opportunity.

Even as he left the mansion and trotted quickly toward the forest, following the scent of his packmates, his stomach rumbled uncomfortably. He could smell the deer from not far off - fresh food would be very beneficial to the pack right now. Kansas came upon the four of them in no time at all. He noticed Savina first, immediately feeling the warm sensation from inside he now knew all too well. He gave her muzzle a tender lick, then faced Naniko and Anu. He'd figured out by now that the two were mates, and, strangely, he didn't feel odd about it. They looked happy together. That dark, quiet boy, Jazper, was also there. Perhaps this was a large enough group to start. Evening, everyone.

Such a voice could only be found from deep within. It rose with a thunderous rumble, surprising the shewolf’s own ears. As it evened and leveled into her natural swooning low, she held her exhale as long as her lungs would allow. When she as out of air she began to inhale another bellowing gust, but falter her efforts to open her ears. The night was quiet, but only for a few moments. Their steps road their own breeze, traveling quickly and struggling in the trap her ears created.

Her heart jumped, almost sending her mind out of its focus, as she scented her mate in the air. The large alabaster fey was the first to arrive, her green eyes peering in the night’s shadow and her pelt casting off any darkness that threatened to surround her. The small female let her tail swing back and forth, showing the other that she was pleased, as always, to see her.

“Hey love.” Her voice was sweet but tired.

It wasn't long until more paw falls came to her ears, and their bodies arrived with only a few more moments of patients. Savina, Jazper and the white furred male she guessed was Kansas all answered her call. A smile fell easily on her features as they surrounded her, each face asking and wondering and each eager to join her. Blue eyes scanned over them, knowing that they were ready, and with no others approaching her patients left her.

“White tail, if it suits you.” Answering Jazper’s question. She didn’t let him or any other answer, her body stepping away from her reason leashed mind and taking charge. Her paws trotted into the circle a few steps, before turning to Nani. She knew that it wasn’t her place to lead them, and her ears fell back a notch while her tail fell from its curled position over her back. It was a pleading gesture, hoping that there would be no retribution needed for her forward actions.

Unable to hold back she took to the chase. They wouldn't have to run far, and staying down wind would keep them from spooking their quarry prematurely.

Soon the trio were joined by Jazper. It would be very good to have him along on the hunt, he was large, strong, and young. Not only that but from what she'd heard and seen he was an incredibly apt hunter. Taking down their quarry would be much easier with the boy. Then her heart beat faster as Kansas came to join them as well. Ebony tail wagged even faster and an electric feeling shot down her spine as he kissed her muzzle. She happily returned the loving gesture. "Evening dear."

Somewhat nervously her eyes shot to Naniko, wondering how or if she would react to Kansas' and her own displays of affection. Savina didn't necessarily think the Commander would make a big deal out of it, especially not with others around. She still felt a bit self-conscious about the situation around her friend though. Concerned as she was about Naniko's approval of the relationship, nothing was going to stop her from showing the cream male how much she cared for him.

Thankfully there was not much more idle time before things began. Anu took off running towards the prey. The wolfess had no problem with the tawny female taking the lead, and giving one last smile to the rest of her packmates, took off in the same direction. The scent of the white tail were growing stronger and stronger as her limbs carried her and the adrenaline and excitement of the hunt began to flow into her veins.

The wolf at the top of this skin is totally Naniko looking out over the entire board :O

She and Anu hadn't had to announce their mateship to anyone, since they had both been loners at the time, and she hadn't thought to do it when the pack came together again. She figured that people would find out over time. What she did in her personal life did affect some wolves, but for the most part what happened privately stayed private and separate from most pack activities.

Naniko had been relieved when the group had met up again outside the mountain and reclaimed their land. She had thought that Twilight Vale would be the place that she would stay for the rest of her life...and that was partially true. She had stayed on the land...they had just renamed the pack and added a couple of members to their family. A few had left, too. Conri was gone, and Soran. She didn't think about them as much any more, though, with so many new things to worry about...but she did still think about them on occasion.

She looked up when Savina came, giving her friend a poke in the side with her muzzle, a playful gesture. "Hey there."Jazper arrived and her tail wagged. She was pleased to see that the yearling had joined them; he had strength that would benifit their group very much. Naniko hadn't seen Kansas for a little while, so she was glad to see him there as well.

The leader turned the other direction when he leaned toward Savina, turning her attention to Anu and Jazper instead. White tail? Sounded good. When her mate rushed forward she was a little taken aback at first, but the apologetic posture changed her mind quickly. She should let Anu lead the hunt; she had been the one to call it, after all. Naniko was interested to see what the quick minded wolf had planned for the five of them. She took to Anu's right flank just behind the racing female, looking up ahead of them. They'd reach the deer in no time!

OOC: I apologize a million times over for the wrong account...I posted before realizing I was on Asha's O.O
IC:
He was proud to see Naniko's pleasure in his joining the group. The hunt would need some pure strength, which the ebony male was more hten willing to provide. As the white male joined him Jazz recognized him as Kansas, Savina's new friend. Part of him was happy she had finally found a male who took interest in her. He expressed the same feelings for Anu and Naniko who where now obviously a couple. "Evening." He replied with a respectful nod. He turned his attention to Savina to catch her reaction: love, kisses and a warm greeting. Suddenly, he longed for that. For love form another wolf. Sure, he had Deuce close by, Pilot (whom was admittingly a poor father figure but a father figure non the less) and Lucifer who was somewhere on the planet but it just wasn't enough. He craved for a family. Maybe one day Garnet would settle down in Crimson Dreams and they could be together. Maybe but first he would have to tell her how he felt!

Anu promptly added that white tail would be on the hunting menu for the night. Next, he was left in shock as the fay took off leading the hunt. Turning quickly to Naniko his gaze was met with what seemed to be Naniko's aproval on the subject as she ran off to join her mates right side. His massive body may look like he could easily be a black bear form a distance but this male could run! He started off after the she-wolves with a hollar backwards, "Dare ya to keep up Kansas!" He took a spot between Savina and Naniko but behind Anu. It was polite to let the leaders follow after the hunt organizer and besides, from this point of view he would be able to plot everyones movements to find the most effective attack. Looking from Naniko to Savina he chuckled"Last one to bring down a deer is a rotting human!"

It seemed that everyone had arrived who was going to. Five was a good number for hunting most things, and he was sure they'd bring a deer down with little trouble. Savina returned his loving gesture, subtle but enough to give him the boost he always craved. He thought he saw Naniko's eyes quickly divert from their display, and this made his stomach churn suddenly, uneasily. Perhaps it was coincidence. And now wasn't the time to worry about something like that.

Kansas though it very good of Naniko to let her mate lead the hunt - he sensed Anu's intelligence and felt nearly as comfortable with her leading them to their meal as he would have with Nani. The tawny woman promptly took off in the direction of the scent of the deer, the rest of them not far behind. Jazper, the strong adolescent he knew to be Lucifer's son, playfully challenged Kansas. The cream-coloured Sadira grinned and sped up, easily drawing up to the others. He wasn't as large as the younger boy, but his athletic body allowed him to keep up easily with Jazper and the others. They'd be there soon.

sorry for the wait, let the killing commence!

They would all gain speed as they ran, the wind would whip past each of them taunting them into an even greater pace. Excitement burst through her skin as Nani let her lead, and there was a heavy sense of pride and pressure as she felt the others fall into place behind her. She wasn’t a born leader, so the position felt forced and slightly uncomfortable. Putting the feeling aside she ran passed it, growing slightly more confident at every step.

Her nose caught the scent she sought on the quiet but present wind. It teased her taste buds, and motivated her further. The trees passed them, and they ran as a single unit, their strides pressing them deeper into their territory. The inches of woodlands that they protected and loved would soon deliver its most valuable asset it could provide the wolf pack.

The scent became so strong that it almost choked her, making her slow to a trot and then a brisk walk. They lay beyond a thick settlement of trees that lined the ring of tall grasses. It was a perfect setting, hiding the predators while the prey graze happily up wind with minds preoccupied with the food before them. Anu peered through the trees, decided quickly which side she would position herself on to flank the deer. Turning to the right she parted from the main group, to begin the circling.

As the five of them picked up speed and joined into one unit, all the worries of day to day life just melted away. The worries about the pack, the worries about what Naniko thought of her relationship with Kansas meant nothing right now. This was simple. This was need. This was primal. The more civilized mind was being taken over by the hunter. It had been so long since she had been on a group hunt that the midnight fey had nearly forgotten what it felt like. The excitement. The way they worked together as one to benefit the group. It was exhilarating.

As they moved closer to their quarry the scent of the deer became overwhelming. Encompassing what seemed like all of her senses. It was practically the perfect situation. They had perfect cover and were upwind. The herbivores were oblivious to their presence. Though with the darkness, it wasn't like Savina needed much cover. The only thing that would warn the deer of her was if they could spot the two green orbs in the night. Her ear twitched and she knew that Anu had taken off to the right to start the game. Immediately she took off to the left to cover the other side. Soon the real work would begin.

Naniko could still remember her very first hunt, but it was a little fuzzy. When she had lost her memories she hadn't gotten them back for a while, months and months...and what she did remember was still a little disconnected. There were some things she had been told about her childhood from Physe, like living with him and Dierdre, but there were other things that she thought she remembered. On other occasions, she had dreams about things that had happened to her in the past. The fall from the cliff, falling into a river. Those things were sharper.

That first hunt, she'd been too young to do much of anything. She could remember having to sit and watch, and how frustrating it had been that she hadn't been able to join in with her father and the other adults. Aunt Misery had babysat her and Pontiac, which hadn't been a whole lot of fun either.

Naniko followed behind Anu as she circled around, looking into the brush. They'd be eating soon, hopefully...if everything went right. She wanted things to go perfectly. If they brought one or two down, then the they and the pups would be able to eat for a long while. It would be good practice for them, too, if she and Anu were able to bring them back an entire leg. They could eat some meat.

By now, you should've somehow realized what you gotta do! I assume Kansas and Jazz will chase the prey towards the girls for numbers?

He chuckled to himself as the smaller white male caught up to him, giving a nod of respect. As they ran his heart raced. The feeling was amazing and it reminded him of his true instincts. Animal instinct ran in his blood no matter how much he read or learned about the human world. No matter how often he took ideas from the human world he was a wolf. Here he was with three ranked above and one below but that did not matter. Today, they were the hunters.

A thick smell of deer filled is senses making them sharp and alert as he analysed the situation. Naniko followed Anu to the right while Savina started to the left. Eyeing Kansas the coal male he raised his paw and patted it on the ground assertivly. If the three feys had moved to the rear it would take more then one to chase the deer down into the trap. As he awaited a signal of an kind, the perfect moment his mind started to wander to his first kill. It had been mid day along Rabbit Lake and Lucifer had taken Jazper out to hunt geese. The first try had resulted in the boy killing a small weak thing but. Lucifer had insisted he try again and go for a stronger bird. It had cost him a few scratches but with a final leap the hunter and taken down the prey. Scanning the feild he spotted the alpha, a buck with large antlers and beside him there was a female strong and healthy. Wagging his tail he knew the deer he wanted leaning over he whispered in Kansas's ear, " Doe next to the alpha?."

Kansas watched Anu veer off, Savina and Naniko the same, more or less. He was left with Jazper. The young man was strong and handsome, reminiscent of Lucifer. Kansas felt a little strange working with him, but as they moved closer toward the deer, his emotions faded away, leaving him without his reservations. It was time to focus on shedding the blood that would feed his pack. He caught Lucifer's eye and gave a subtle nod, following the boy around in the opposite direction as the girls. Kansas was fast, and he assumed with his build, Jazper was too. This would hopefully work out perfectly.

They paused, green and blue eyes aimed together toward the large buck and his doe. Kansas lowered his sleek body closer to th earth, but kept his ears lifted to the sound of his partner's voice. Kansas always felt badly about taking the healthy animals - it seemed unfair. But he thought of Savina, of of Naniko's four puppies: they deserved the best right now. Kansas grinned with a firm, "Yeah." The girls must be in position by now, so Kansas gave Jazper a meaningful glance and together they began the chase, the herd scattering. Kansas deftly focussed his attention on the doe they had selected.

There was a new feeling that swept over her as she moved through the undergrowth. It was something about stalking beside Naniko that made this a different hunt. They moved so well together every other moment, and their bodies were always electric the instant they touched that as her mind withdrew into the primal instinct of the kill the mere presence of her mate made the energy surrounding her like lightning. It was overwhelming and exhilarating all at the same second.

Cobalt eyes peered through the colored leaves, eyeing the herd as they grazed. It was safe to think that the rest would be in position. Savina would have moved toward the opposite side, and the males would push the prey, their larger size making it impossible for the deer to not turn and run. Suddenly, in mid thought the drill began. Like the loud ringing of an alarm the moment of the herd made her muscles tense, and she had to fight the urge to chase. It was like wrestling a bear, so large and impossible that there was no way to win. If she could only keep it at bay for one more second…

The sight of the black and stark males kept her still, and when they were in sight she let the monster within win the fight. It burst through; turning her limbs into fire, her senses magnified and then the chase took control. It was obvious what doe they chose, she might as well be painted with a blood red x across her flank. The shewolf sped to the deer’s side, so close that it could brush her away with it fore hoof.

They were close, so close.

The jet femme waited anxiously for the hunt to officially begin. Naniko had followed Anu off to the right. Jazper and Kansas would start the chase once they had picked the target. Green orbs shone menacingly in the moonlight. The hungry eyes of a predator. She flexed her shoulders and dug her claws into the earth. Watching and waiting. She did her best to control her breathing, keeping it steady and quiet. Behind her tail twitched back and forth, doing the her best to control the urge to spring forward before the time was right.

Then there was the sound of movement and her ear swiveled to the side. The herd began to stir and run away. Gaze shot to her side and she saw Jazper and Kansas running forward. A smile of pride played across her lips to see her beloved help start the chase. Just when she caught the realization of which doe they were after, she saw Anu jump from the other side and take pursuit. Quick as a flash her legs launched off the earth and she bounded over the underbrush. Speed was her specialty and it took no time at all to close the gap between herself and the doe. She began to nip at the animal's front upper leg. As much as she wanted to lunge right now, she needed to wait until everyone was in the proper position. This was a healthy animal. No mistakes could be afforded.

She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her as well, making her feel a little tense, on edge. But at the same time, all of her senses were working at once. She could see better than usual, hear every little detail...it was great. Naniko wished that she could feel this way all the time! Then the time came, the moment that they had all been waiting for. She burst out from the brush along with the others, taking persuit of the deer. All of them had their own job and she found hers in a moment. They had to somehow get the deer on the ground, get it to stop running.

She saw the moment and took a lunge for the lower part of one of the deer's forelegs as it came back toward her, grabbing a hold of it with her teeth and yanking back with her head to trip it. If they could get it onto the ground...with this many wolves, it would be easy sailing after that.

By now, you should've somehow realized what you gotta do! (OOC area.)

He pawed the ground waiting, watching, listening. He let his senses go wild as he pumped up for the hunt. There was something amazing, thrilling even, about the process. He craved it like the animal he was. The sweet scent of deer lingered on his lips as his golden eyes pearced through the dark forest. He nodded to Kansas as the male spoke. He could feel his partner in crime focus in ready to go. All that was left was for the coal wolf to move. His powerful limbs lowered to the ground as he crouched slowly moving towards the tree line. Finaly, he launched himself forward with a snarl. The time was now.

His muscles tensed as he ran, his claws ripping up dirt as he tore across the feild, doe in sight. The animals ran instinctivly right into the trap as the girls came jolting out of the opposite side. The deer were now frantic, running to the sides to get away but the one doe was cought like a fly in a spider web. Quickly, Jazper took in the situation. Savina was nipping at her front legs, Anu was at the side and Naniko was behind. All at once is seemed Naniko went ofr the back legs trying to knock the animal down. At this moment the largest of the group took the doe's second of weakness as she was tumbling to the ground. He tossed his body wieght into the large beast, landing with her firmly held down. There were certain advantages to being in a halfling form, Jazper was about the size of a small bear. His muzzle grabbed the does hind leg and with a swift twist it snapped leaving the kill open to any of the others.

He ran as fast as he could, not once allowing his eyes to leave the doe he and his partner chased. Yet, he remained aware of most everything else that was going on around him. Jazper ran with him, the girls lay in wait, the terrified herd scattered as each pair of soft brown eyes widened with nothing less than utter terror. Adrenaline moved him faster, until Anu lunged for the doe's tender side to slow it down. Savina, beautifully intense in her desire to kill, took her place in front of the deer while Naniko took hold of a hind leg with the smart intent of tripping the animal.

With one leap from the large, charcoal male, Jazper and the three girls had the deer down. Kansas didn't feel comfortable killing it - this was for someone else to do; not him. The doe struggled pitifully as he moved around and gripped the back of its neck with his fangs, placing one paw on the brown fur to help hold it still. The deer must have known by now that its struggles wouldn't save it, and calmed ever so slightly, as if waiting for its life to end.
