The Dampwoods--Dawn's Breath. Private for Jassy <3

----------faster, faster.. the lights are turnin' red

The angry skies had ceased their tantrum and no longer assaulted the earth with the gusty winds that transformed gentle snowflakes into spear-like projectiles aimed at her eye. Sunrise had seen light flurries, morning had simply been overcast, and by afternoon the sun was poking through. The petite girl was quite relieved--this made travelling more enjoyable and hunting possible. While she was rather grateful for Savina's generosity, there was only so much fuel in a rabbit for two adult wolves.
Her trail of paw prints down the mountain occasionally overlapped a smaller set--that of Charger, as he scampered along behind her. The snow was a bit deep from his perspective, so he preferred following in her tracks. Occasionally he'd move alongside of the she-wolf, and other times his tracks vanished entirely as he moved to climb up and raid some of the squirrels' food stores for the winter. The girl's stomach growled audibly as she watched him eat; the raccoon's ears fell back and he sat back on his haunches and presented the acorn he was munching with his two black paws. Laughing lightly, she shook her head: 'm not that desperate, mate, she quipped, sticking her tongue out at him.
Still, she was in an interesting predicament. The weather was nicer here away from the shore, but she didn't know of any rivers to fish from. Maybe she'd see something else wondering around--but if it was any bigger than a ground hog, she'd have little luck by herself. Shifting was always an option, she reminded herself--it was just uncharacteristic of her to travel in such a bulky form since it seemed to waste a lot of energy. Sitting down in the midst of a flat plain of snow, she peered at the hills up ahead. The black and red-marked girl stuck out like a sore thumb here and she decided that this was most certainly not the best place to look for a meal. Still, it was worth a shot.
Tiptoing along, she signalled to Charger to keep still for a moment. Cocking her head to one side, she listened closely for any sound of movement beneath the snow's surface. There! In a distinctly coyote-like manoeuvre, she pounced, clawed at the snow, and sent a hapless lemming flying into the air. She caught it quickly and devoured the morsel in one bite. Damn. It would take at least a dozen of these to make any substantial impact, wouldn't it? Oh well; it was best to keep moving. She made her way closer and closer to the hills, keeping an eye and ear out for anything to eat.
