and nothing else matters

OOC: Backdated to April 20th, the day before the DdM party. ^^

It was early morning, and he had already been awake and about for hours. Sunlight streamed through the window of the second-story bedroom, falling gracefully on the tawny girl taking up the entirety of the bed. Drey had been captivated by Alexey since the moment he'd first layed his emerald eyes on her in the woods that morning long ago, but he could never shake the pure adoration he had for her when he awoke to her beside him in the morning light. The couple had been sharing a bedroom since about a week after Kol had left for Elliott's treehouse, and it had only been at Alexey's invitation. She was so very different from all the females Drey had ever been with, in that he could never bring himself to use her, lie to her, or lead her on in any way. While all he'd wanted from the others had been a good time and perhaps a temporary body to ease the loneliness of war-torn bachelor life, it was completely different with the Koios girl. For the first time in his life, Drey had found himself thinking more about the future than the present, and just how badly he wanted to share everything with the sleeping angel currently wrapped up in the sheets.

A soft smile tugged at his lips as moved away from the door. He'd spent the morning bringing down a fat rabbit for breakfast, then roasting it over the firepit he and Kol had built in the kitchen on the first floor of the house. Usually, he preferred not to trouble himself with cooking his meat, but he had to admit that heating it did add a distinct extra flavor and texture that he enjoyed every now and again. Carefully and quietly, he placed the wooden tray with the still simmering rabbit on the tall dresser of the room, stepping silently and swiftly to the bed. He still couldn't believe how much his life had changed in the past year, from the sudden outbreak of war with the Dawnrunners, to his decision to leave the Valley, and most prominently now to the sudden influx of emotions the woman he was admiring flooded within his heart. It had happened far more quickly than he'd ever thought possible, and it was only after his long talk with Kol a few nights ago that he realized he actually liked the feeling. The former playboy had absolutely and whole-heartedly fallen in love.

A crimson hand reached out to stroke his lover's hair as he sat on the bed beside her. It was no wonder she'd been so exhausted lately, spending so much time caring for the Soul boys now that they had finally been returned to Dahlia. Pups had never been a soft spot for the Stormbringer, but they seemed to mean the world to Alexey, and so he was begrudgingly willing to share her with them if it kept her happy. He knew she could probably see the foolish jealousy in his emerald eyes everytime she left to care for them, but he always held his tongue. He knew it was idiotic to be jealous of two helpless pups who needed what the Caregiver could provide, but the feeling rushed over him regardless. There would be no question as to the male's actions if the one demanding Alexey's attention had been another male; Dreyrugr was a man of action, not words, and he would simply have introduced himself to the bastard with his fists. Fortunately for Conor and Emwe, that wasn't the case in their relationship with Alexey.

Dreams; the tawny girl’s nights had been filled with them recently. They were good ones; pleasant little movies being played by her subconscious. Her mind was free of worry; it was wonderful. The last few months had been a little too dramatic. But everything was better now, as if a ray of light had chased all of her problems away. Maybe she’d gotten really lucky, or maybe there was something more to it. Alexey often thought about it, and it became apparent that her so-called rays of light were people; the ones she loved unconditionally: Conor, Emwe, Ade, Sankor, Kol and … Drey.

Her relationship with the male had gone from a simple crush to something a lot more profound. The feelings she had for him were borderline scary. She’d never felt so connected to anyone until now. What she’d thought was love before was nothing compared to the feelings she currently had for Kol’s brother. A gentle touch stirred the caregiver from her sleep but she kept her eyes closed, savoring the moment. The exquisite smell of roasted meat was in the atmosphere; it brought a soft smile to her lips. Whatever Drey had prepared smelled amazing.

The Koios girl then opened one eye to peek at her beau, searching for his gorgeous apple-colored orbs. Looking into those eyes made her heart melt every single time. “How come you’re up so early?” she questioned, snuggling a little closer so that she could rest her head on his lap.

He couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips as she finally opened her eyes. Those honey-colored orbs were pools of warmth to the male, and he knew he could lose himself for days if he wasn't careful. A chuckle passed his lips as the woman snuggled in closer, laying her head in his lap. Habitually, Drey's hand reached down to stroke Alexey's hair softly, as he smiled at her obvious desire to simply stay in bed. He couldn't blame her in the slightest, and quite honestly that was exactly where he would love to be at that moment, though sleeping wasn't exactly the first thing on his mind. Perhaps eventually, but not immediately.

"Well, what does it smell like I'm up so early for? I made you breakfast. You've been so exhausted lately that I figured sending you out to catch your own meal would probably end in disaster." He grinned mischievously down at her, picturing the tawny woman sliding face first into a pool of mud because she was too tired to watch her footing. "But really, you need a day to yourself, a day where you can just stay under the covers if you want. You've been so wrapped up in all the drama around here lately that you're forgetting to take care of yourself." A teasing glimmer sparkled in his eyes as he leaned down to kiss her cheek, his voice soft in her ear and laced with a mischievous growl. "And I for one need you with energy to spare, my little fugl."

The russet-colored male did exactly what she wanted him to do. A cat-like purr passed her lips as his fingers ran through her hair. The feeling was wonderful, and she didn’t want it to stop. Her fluffy tail thumped against the mattress, displaying just how content and happy she truly was at this very moment. Even the time she'd spent with Aiden had never been this amazing. Initially, Lexey had done everything in her power to stay away from Kol’s brother. But the feelings that warmed her heart were just too good to ignore. She had no choice but to trust the male at this point. And she was willing to do that, despite his track record with women.

Lexey’s face scrunched up into a grimace when her lover mentioned how exhausted she looked. He was right. And she was a terrible hunter to start off with. She couldn’t imagine what would’ve happened if she’d tried to catch prey on her own. “I guess you’re right,” She couldn’t help but smile at his suggestion to stay in bed. It was tempting, but she’d promised Conor that she would visit him later. “Can’t. I told Conor I’d go see him later.” she explained sheepishly. But when he planted a kiss on her cheek, Alexey couldn’t help but comply to his wishes. She would go see Conor a little later on. Shivers travelled up her spine when he whispered sweet nothings in her ear. The Koios girl felt so vulnerable. “Okay, maybe I’ll stay for a little while.”
