A Paper Thin Hymn

Just another day, Anu spoke the words to herself. It would be just another time venturing from her home. She was keen to wander, and it was only her curiosity that made her sneak out of the boarders that had no chance of holding her and headed northward. What was it today? What was it that made her fall from the path that she had created around her home territory and made her think that the outside held something more for her? Anu knew very well what had called to her.

No, it was not the scent of lilac, or that sweet breeze that rolled over the great lake that hopped soundlessly like a rabbit to her face. It would kiss her gently, asking sweetly for her to venture to its bank and then further and further away. No, it was a voice that sang to her ear and pulled at her heart. The chickadee, its black cap sitting high upon it crown, sat in one of the old oaks that guarded her home. His song rang with a high pitch, greeting the morning and calling for his mate. He pronounced his name with a quick tenor, again and again in hopes of finding the love of his life, or at least the spring. Blue eyes looked to him, and without a second thought the female left the path and began to wander and wonder if it was truly just another day.

Paws took her northward, the trail known by her subconscious but not recognized by her waking mind. The morning was cool, but as she traveled the day brought a bright sun that shone warmly against her back. Choosing her Optime form, by midday Anu shifted effortlessly and strode through the pack land on two paws. Her lean frame was hidden well among the wooded area, as she kept to the trees. Feeling their security around her, Anu thought little of it as she trespassed once again over the land of Dahlia de Mai. The scent flooded her nose, and Anu found it as enjoyable as a subtle floral perfume. She couldn’t remember it being so pleasant the time before, but as she ventured deeper it was what she thought of, that and the chickadee’s song. It was when Anu smelled the sweet aroma of pollen that she chose a solid course. The black nose brought her to flowers, and to what she could say was a garden, though its rows were not perfect and she could see weeds among the chosen plants.

She smiled, a warm gin that hugged her maw. Gentle fingers touched the face of the nearest pimpernel, its sweet red color contrasting with the green the dominated its surroundings. The smallest of flowers, its petals no larger then her finger tip. Anu plucked its blossom, opened and seeking the nourishment of the sun. With it in hand Anu walked through the garden, careful to not trample anything underfoot. It held a unique beauty. Unlike the perfection that might be bestowed on a cultivated place with neatness and precision or the feral and untamed passion held by the wildflowers of open fields, it was a mixture of both the chaos of the natural balanced by the beauty of the choice made by its creator. Looking down at the scarlet flower, Anu wondered who had brought such different entities together.

lost into the weight of gravity

It was the height of spring, with the seasons edging nearer to summer - her favourite time of year. Everything was vivid and colourful; the warm breezes were laden with pleasant aromas, her days choreographed to trilling birdsong, and best of all, everything was in bloom. She had crawled to this land in the dead of winter, and only now saw just how much it had to offer her. The slender werewolf was seated on a small flat rock, her face uptilted towards the sun, absorbing the warmth on her cream-furred cheeks. Things had been going well lately - she had been able to meet new people without scaring them off, had finally spoken to her dear Cercelee, had even befriended several youngsters that were interested in her knowledge of flora. It certainly didn't hurt to learn that Firefly Sadira and Svara Thames, the two greatest thorns in her side, had been officially outcast from their pack. She knew she shouldn't laugh at their expense, but it did give her a little extra spring in her step, knowing that her corner of the world was a more pleasant place.

Rising gracefully from her perch, Colibri's sky-blue eyes fluttered open, a small smile alighting on her countenance. Would today be the day? She had promised herself that she would go yesterday, that she would pack a small meal to take with her, and wander to the borders of Crimson Dreams... but she had been intercepted by a young packmate, and ended up spending the day picking flowers with her. It gave her the idea to gather a bouquet of wildflowers for her paramour, although with each day that passed, the image of her face blurred a little more at the edges. Was it foolish to still hold onto that memory, believing there to be something more behind the encounter? She had reached an all-time low that night, mourning the departure of her sister, cursing her own inability to make friends, and seeking solace by drowning in a bottle. But somehow, the beautiful ghost that drifted to her side had pulled her out of it, and every day since then, she recalled the warmth of her first kiss...

There it was again, the faint blush that graced her cheeks every time she thought about it. It was hard to write off the haunting encounter as something inconsequential, a result of the wine (which had given her such a headache the next morning!). No male had ever left as strong an impression on her, and she was beginning to truly believe that she was meant to fall in love with a female... it would certainly explain why she had never taken anyone to her bed, never dreamt about a man that way, although it would put a damper on her plans for motherhood. She did not even realize she had begun walking until her light footfalls brought her near the house she and Deuce shared, near the colourful garden she had been spending her days toiling at. There was a rustling nearby - someone had entered her yard...! Her first thought was that little Catalyst had snuck in again, the white puppy that had "liberated" a periwinkle the other day. But when she saw the graceful movements of an Optime, pale sandy-blond fur ruffling in the scudding breezes, her breath caught in her throat.

Anu... had found her...!

I was going to go to bed, but now I feel like i finally can..
500+

A day so pleasant, reminded her of another. Each time she drifted here Anu always held a memory in her heart. It was a foolish thing to hold onto, but she did so many foolish things. When they had both been so hurt, and they let their minds become dazed by sweet wine how could they resist the temptation? Anu found it hard, and indulged more then once in the comfort of another while under the influence of the liquor, but she knew that the other had been far too innocent. There were moments when Anu fear she had corrupted some part of the young woman, but then… what lasting affect could be have on anyone? Such questions and such thoughts fell heavy on her mind too often, not just while she trespassed the Dahlia lands. But in the early morning as she lay in bed, or when a warm wild touched her face gently, and while she tended to the plants of her own garden. Cerulean orbs looked down at the flora that surrounded her, and now as she stood among the bountiful plot. A smile came to her face.

She would indulge, while her eyes took in the soft faces that were turned upward and sought the warmth of the sun and her nose breathed in their sweet tickling smell. Her heart was her constant companion, beating the seconds by and sharing its rhythm with her ears. It beat pleasantly, ticking along with the time, as she stood still and calm between the flower’s rows. Hand still holding the scarlet pimpernel, she ran a soft finger of the pedals and felt the silk texture beneath her gentle fingertip. A question remained, the owner of such a delightful place, tapping against her mind. She was content on exploring further before seeking out the one that tending to it’s roots, until the air shifted and pollen no longer held her sensitive sense. Looking up, light blue eyes found the figure of a young wolfess. Her stature was slight, her frame lean and wrapped in short earthen toned fur. She looked to the pale face, her milk and honey toned cheeks the milieu for blue eyes Anu recognized. The flower sat in her hand, and she fought not to crush it in her surprise. Looking down at it Anu found it safe, and immediately returned her gaze to the female. Her smile was replaced by a soft shock that rang through her body, and she found the same sort of reaction written on the other. Mind fought for the words she should speak, and felt it appropriate for her to explain herself.

Is this your garden? A feeble attempt at explaining why she stood among the rows of plants, plucking them from their stems as if she owned them. Her voice was soft, as it always was when she grew cautious. Though she wanted to be strong, it was hard when in the presence of someone so beautiful.

lost into the weight of gravity

Like a pair of startled deer, the two cautious werewolves gazed into each others' eyes, trying to gauge the other's reaction. Colibri felt self-consciousness wash over her as she saw how graceful and poised Anu stood. Even when she simply stood still, Coli could not look away. If only she had known, she could have prepared herself; her hair was probably a mess from lazing about on that sunning rock, and she was probably smudged with dirt like any gardener. She could only imagine the disappointment slowly spreading into Anu's pale eyes, as she no-doubt realized that without the wine's help, she really was a plain girl, and too young for her to boot. There was still too much distance between them - she wanted to close the gap, she really did, but her footpaws refused to move. Her voice was still trapped in her throat. Anu had paralyzed her, with those soulful blue eyes...

A tiny star-shaped flower peeked up from between Anu's slender fingers, its crimson petals vivid against her light fur. Coli recognized it as a plant with many nicknames, like red chickweed, or a shepherd's weather clock. She knew that the delicate bloom would draw itself shut before a storm, so sensitive it was to the pressure around it. And although her mind told her it shouldn't work quite like that, seeing that the pretty petals were fully open made her feel slightly more relaxed - there would be no stormy weather between them, no more tension than was expected. The tiny barometer would not lie.

She couldn't help herself - a chuckle slipped from her lips, and she quickly covered her mouth, trying to hold in the nervous giggling. "Y-yes... this is m-my garden," she admitted, taking credit for her weeks of work. "It's just w-wildflowers I collected," she swiftly amended. Given time and the proper housing, she could do much more impressive things, she was sure. Breed new petal colours, harvest seeds to grow from scratch. She hadn't really known if Anu liked flowers, especially in the way that Coli herself did. Seeing how enthralled the older femme appeared to be gave her a sudden rush of confidence. They did have more in common than just that night. The Crimson Dreams leader had not even been looking for her, and stumbled upon her anyway. That had to mean something! ...Right?

edited slightly, because it was rushed and could be better..

Since meeting her, Anu had though of her story many times. It had been sad, a tale of unhappiness and fear. It was obvious that the girl was making something of her home, as Anu did her own. Had it brought her happiness, though the round colorful faces of flowers would not bring enough to fill the soul to satisfaction? Anu understood how it could help, and found gratification that the blue eyed fey had worked to make things better. But a piece that hid beneath the rest spoke sourly, wanting to be included in her new contentment. Anu hushed the selfish tone, and let the warm smile upon her face draw slowly wider. Filling the empty thoughts with ones of wonder, wondering what Coli was thinking, what she thought of Anu standing within her yard, picking her flowers. There was no anger in her face, something Anu could not imagine on the younger woman’s features, there was only hesitation and maybe if Anu looked hard enough, embarrassment.

Pleased to hear that she indeed tended to the flowers Anu could not hide the feeling of excitement, knowing that it was a passion that they shared. Coli’s explanation was an understatement; wildflowers would not just grow anywhere and under any conditions. It was obvious that she had brought many species together from the different regions of their home lands, such a thing was a feet in the least. A she listened Anu let her smile stay while Coli stumbled lightly over her words, not minding that Coli expressed her unease through her voice, but caring that she was the cause of it. Looking down at the stemmed creatures rooted in front of her, Anu could not help but want to grow closer to the other fey, her botany interest peaked as well as her general curiosity. In a moment's time Anu gathered many things from the flowers that had been transplanted, seeing that Coli was gifted and no doubt knowledgeable. She wondered what books she had read, or if she had a true teacher. When she let her eyes rise back to the slender deep brown female she spoke her praises. Its breathtaking. Blue eyes looking into ones the matched, Anu noticed that she openly spoke of one thing, when she should have been talking about another. Is this its first spring? Anu questioned quickly while watching her, only half wondering if the garden was new or if it she had reawakened a once used plot. She could have laughed at her own foolishness, and how the Dahlia wolfess made her heart change its rhythm.

No longer did it beat steadily, but flutter in a manner she could compare with the wings of the loud chickadee. It sang it’s desires to the world, in hopes of being heard.

lost into the weight of gravity

The gentle voice drew her in, sweet as honey and just as pure. Colibri took a hesitant step forward, then another, ducking her head slightly as though expecting disapproval because she did not wait for permission to approach. The sunlight cast a beautiful radiance on Anu, highlighting the delicate features of her countenance, illuminating her pale fur in a halo. In the night, she had been ghostly. In the day, she was heavenly. There was simply something fantastical about her, the sylph that had captured her heart so completely. This time, on her own without the help of any outside influences, Coli could try to offer a better impression than she had the evening they met. She certainly would not cry, would not wallow in her sadness in the presence of such an ethereal fae. All she could do was offer her plain, simple self; the shy young woman who could never figure out what she wanted from life, but was always willing to listen to suggestion.

The flowers around them seemed happy, their colourful faces kissed by the sun as they swayed easily in the company of the like-minded wolves that loved them. It was easy to talk about them. To distract her from the bigger topic looming between them, the question on the tip of her tongue that she dared not ask. In fact, the reason her garden had grown so large in such a short time was because she had been so obsessed with finding Anu again. She was not brave enough to make the first move, so instead she through herself into her hobby, carrying home plants from all over their packlands, spending every house of daylight tamping down soil and bringing them water. "I... did a lot of expanding. Th-there were beds along the fence, but I added all of this..." She gestured vaguely at the area Anu was standing, a plot of fresh soil wide enough to warrant a nice stone pathway that she had not gotten around to adding. Originally she just wanted to add some pretty little blossoms to make Deuce smile, and then keep a few out back to please herself until Henratha could complete the promised greenhouse. Now she had graduated to full-blown landscaping, just to keep herself occupied. It was both impressive, and maybe pathetic in her own way, that she waste so much time on something that did not really matter to anyone else...

"You... really find it breathtaking?" Coli asked hesitantly, still standing shyly at the edge of her plantings. There was still so much to be done - it was in its infant stage, no rock borders, no rare plants to treasure, no butterflies or hummingbirds that had marked it as their own. But... Anu liked it? She had never imagined the sandy-blond werewolf would ever see it. No one had told her that the leader liked to wander across their borders, just to see the other side. And she takes my breath away, her mind admitted ruefully, making her swallow nervously. Her wide blue eyes had a tendency to betray her thoughts, if one could look inside them. And she knew the person standing before her could do just that, because one look from her had sent her tremulous heart aflutter, and it had yet to settle.

lovely post

A blue sky hung over head, while the sun sat dutifully perched high among the cotton textured clouds. Though the day was clear, the sun did not blaze down against them, but created a warm shine that seemed to wrap the two females in a subtle glow. She had been confident while approaching her their last meeting, but then Anu had not felt what ran through her body now. As Colibri made her way towards her, settling at the entrance of the path that was lined with thimbleweed, bellflowers and marigolds Anu felt a sudden hesitation. Something that warned her, something that wanted protection. Protection from the fragile fey, who’s figure were as light as her own and who wore the softest fur, so delicate that she was sure it was made of silk. She remembered her hand resting against the cream hue of her face, remembering the need for subtly, for the fur itself was so light and felt of satin that it called for the most gentle of care. Even in the fading of memories, which happened no matter how dear or important, she could hold that detail in her mind as if she experienced it in the present.

The thought made her turn her face away, looking at the different plant that she had not noticed at her first glance. A hope to hide that look of caution, and a need to move beyond it made Anu wonder where and how she had come to own such a thing. It peaked her interest and stung at her heart so much so that Anu could look to it and forget, though it was never forgotten but only ignorable. It was her voice that brought her eyes back to the female, and Anu fought to focus. Two things pulled her conscious mind, two beautiful things that made it hard for her to find the words in response. But as she spoke, Anu listened with interest and found that it was easy to talk of the garden while something else settled between them, something that Anu was sure she created and alone saw. In the moment Anu was going to question her, about the flower that had caught her eye, Coli asked her own.

Soft eyes took her in, and as they did Anu understood why she feared the other. It was a fear and a question. And comfort and answers were not something easily obtainable. Anu swallowed it, knowing that there would be nothing that could save her from her own emotions. All she could do was tread lightly and wait for her heart to calm and settle as she hoped it would. But with her question, and as eyes gazed over her with a longing that was embarrassing and foolish an answer came to a question that was meant for something very different. But Anu told of her own, hidden truth. Of coure she was breath taking. Yes. Anu spoke, ridding her mind of the any caution. The need to be close, and the urge to find them standing side by side again was too great for her to continue pondering over small doubts. Looking again Anu let her eyes venture downward briefly before returning her gaze again to the chocolate hued female, the questioning look still upon her face.

This one is my favorite. The words coming with a soft point of her finger. Unable to contain herself Anu crouched before the pink orchid, she smiled and wondered where Coli had been lucky enough to find them. The lady’s slipper, as Anu knew it was called looked happily up at her while settled among a few of its kind. Shaking her head slightly the woman spoke, haven’t been able to find them, and haven’t had them in my garden for a few seasons. Anu couldn’t believe it, though she hid her small bit of jealousy with a soft laugh. They look very happy. Anu spoke, wondering if they made Coli as happy as they themselves looked.

lost into the weight of gravity

A light zephyr chased through the petals, ruffling the deep blue of the periwinkle, the burnt yellow of the goldenrod, the delicate white of bishop's lace. Perhaps in time, if the flowerbeds were left to run wild, all of the wildflowers would spread in a sea of colour, engulfing their plain dirt paths and grass yards. She liked the idea. It was somewhat of a novelty, growing things to make others smile. Usually it was a very private habit - she needed the feeling that something relied on her to survive, that she was needed. That was how it started. That was why she didn't leave the cabin, years ago, when she had been left to die there. She had begun a secret garden, and it needed her. Only when the cruel chill of winter had claimed all of their lives had she slunk away into the woods, searching for any remnants of the life she had known. Clouded Tears was gone. But there was a new pack to replace it, one named after a flower...

Coli blinked, her mind returning to the present. She shouldn't let it wander, not when chance had stumbled right into her backyard. Her pulse was racing, as quickly as the wings of the hummingbird she was named after. Anu had looked away from her, when she asked her question. Was that a bad sign? Had she said something wrong? But her fears were assuaged moments later, with a simple affirmation.

Then Anu crouched, lowering herself to the ground and evaporating her unwittingly intimidating position. Coli exhaled a breath she didn't realize she was holding, and stepped delicately between the rows of plants to kneel at Anu's side. Her blue eyes lingered on the graceful curves of the werewolf's slender form, her fingertips recalling the soft touch of her pale fur. So close, so close! She had been dreaming of this reunion since the night they had slipped away from each other - so many questions unanswered, so many chances she let go. And yet, both of them kept gently side-stepping what they really wanted to talk about. (Or was it only burning fervently in Coli's mind, and Anu was content with a simple visitation?) "Take them," she blurted, without a second thought. "If... if you really want them, I mean... They can grow in your garden instead..." She swallowed nervously, suddenly feeling too close. It would be too hard to hide a look of disgust from this proximity. She would be able to tell if she was being rejected. Averting her eyes, she whispered, "On t-two conditions... One, if... if that means I get to see your garden too... and... two..." She reached to the stem of the lady's slipper, her claw gently following its path to the soft soil. She would gladly give up every plant she had collected, if it meant Anu would agree to either one of her conditions. She licked her lips anxiously, murmuring the second half of her plea. "...you promise that when you look at it, you'll think of me..."

Your welcome! The picture was too fitting, i couldn't resist.
800+ i wrote too much

Anu always believed that those who cared for the earth were special creatures. They were a separate kind, as her father, her teacher, had told her. He had been a wolf of the dirt, to toil and sow was his means of life. It had been fruit trees that had been his passion, and as Anu had grown he had given her his green thumb. He spoke of those that lived among the natural, laid their hands in the mother’s skin, and call them a kinder folk. He hadn’t been boasting, for it was meek existence, but always told her of the pride that could come from such patience and diligence. Most of all, the gentle kindness that such delicate creatures needed and how just like a flower; their kind also needed sweet words and a subtle touch.

Was it why she felt at home among her garden? Anu had found that even the silent could bring peace of mind on the weariest of days. The sight of the pink flowers, their round petals extended forward and curved downward as if in greeting, but at the last moment it had grown bashful and hoped to retreat back into itself. Even with its play of emotion, its beauty never dwindled and only brought a curiosity. Maybe it only held a secret not yet whiling to share. Anu prayed silently that another wouldn’t feel so cautious, and she prayed she wouldn’t suddenly become fearful. But maybe, they just held secrets.

She felt her come closer, felt the change of the air and found that with each inhale her scent saturated her breath. Her heart quickened instantly, beating with a purpose and sounding the chorus of Coli’s presence. Had the white clouds parted, leaving only the sun to shine down on her? She felt the warmth grow inward out, and knew that it was not the raze of the sun that brought such a change. The scent of her bordered on intoxicating, but lingered much closer to a sweet sensation that tickled her nose. Blue eyes could not look to her, knowing that on her face a map of her emotions would be written, pointing strait to the want and need that she felt.

The words came suddenly, as they always seemed to from the younger female. They made Anu smile before she could even understand them. And ash she did Anu found that the gift that Coli was giving was unnecessary and unfair. But her thoughts were slowed and stopped when she looked to her, unable to be so close without looking to the blue eyes Anu so easily drowned in. Indulging she turned to her, features soft as she took in the details of her face. She had thought so much of her, pictured the eyes, the soft curve of her jawbone and the sweet cream of her cheeks. When time had grown Anu had lost some of the fine minutiae and had worried that she’d never see then again.

Disbelief followed, sure that the female didn’t want her to take the flowers that she had works so hard to care for. Her eyes faltered, as if going back to look at the flowers that Coli spoke of. But Anu didn’t look away, didn’t want to take her eyes from her face. She would miss a reaction; she would miss the next words and what her body spoke as she said them. Anu listened, taking in the words she spoke and could not help but like the idea. She slowly smiled, and while the earthen hued female looked away Anu did not. She saw the hesitation in her downward turned face and in her words. It was a hesitation that Anu was familiar with and felt. Her second request stopped the rhythmic song that spoke of Coli’s presence, it made the warm that she generated flow to her face. And for a moment Anu was silent. She hadn’t expected Coli to think of her, she had even guessed that she would want to forget her and her boldness.

Anu let her hand move to the dirt, letting it settle among a texture it was familiar with. Her voice was soft, but enough the she would hear. But you only have two. Of course there was only a pair, for they were rare. So rare that Anu was sure they would not find them again in the wild beyond their gardens. If I take both, how will you remember me? Anu didn’t want her to forget, and didn’t want her to forget to visit.

Anu did not need a flower to bring her thoughts to the one that knelt beside her, there was so much that made her mind drift towards her. And as much as she didn’t need a reminder of the soft delicate female Anu would be happy to take the flower, if it mean that Coli knew she thought of her. And if it meant she wanted Anu to think of her. Her next words held a hesitation that threatened to outweigh those that Coli had said, but there was also a sweetness in the truth. I don’t need anything to help me think of you.

lost into the weight of gravity

Her ears flickered back, faltering. She wanted to please her, to see the rare smile that made everything feel all right in the world. If Anu appreciated how special the flowers were, why wouldn't she accept them? Did she not want to feel obliged to Coli's conditions? She would rescind them, of course - anything to indulge. Her breath was caught in her throat, keeping her frozen in place. She must have overstepped her boundaries, seeing the disbelief cast its pall over Anu's soft countenance. Licking her lips nervously, she prepared to apologize, to explain that she could take as many flowers as she wanted with no strings attached. "There are only two... I'm sorry, I can try and find you a third if you need more..." But Anu's melodic voice sounded again, and she fell silent, listening in rapture as her spirit rose again, filling with hope.

Coli's lip trembled, and she quickly bit it, trying to hide just how moved she felt. This time she didn't have the excuse of wine -- if she cried, it would be pure emotion, and it wasn't fair that Anu had this much control over her. Just her words could make her feel like her heart was overflowing! What would she do if they embraced - melt into a little puddle of chocolate? "So... so then..." she stammered, trying to articulate the question she was hoping to ask. She fiddled with her claws, nervous hands moving on their own accord. "So then... you've been thinking... of me? Of..." Her whisper was filled with hopefulness, sky-blue eyes riveted on the delicate petals of the lady's slipper. She couldn't bear to meet Anu's pale gaze, although she desperately wanted to see what the older fey was thinking. Had Anu felt this sort of anxiety, this fear of rejection, when she had asked to steal a kiss? Wasn't it her turn to initiate... before the sylph vanished for good, beyond her grasp? In some way, she was desperate to hold onto her, to hold her close and make the pain go away. There was a happiness, a high, that she could only feel when inhaling that scent, when imagining the possibilities. And there was a strange new low, a sense of loss when she thought of the many days they had spent apart - no - that they had wasted.

"Of... our kiss? Because, I was hoping..." Her whisper faded shyly, blush-pink rising beneath her cheekbones. Being bold was not her area of expertise by any means, but she had been playing this conversation in her daydreams too many times to not give it a try. "I was hoping th-that my first wouldn't be our last..." Surely she couldn't claim that it was Anu's first kiss as well... Haven had revealed to her a glimpse of life in Crimson Dreams; the name of Anu's former mate, her status as a mother of four, her painful breakup. She couldn't feel jealous at the woman Naniko for being there first, because... well, it was her loss that had pushed Anu into visiting the lake that night, into swallowing a bit too much wine, into needing the comfort of another's company. Understanding more about where she came from made Anu seem a little more real... a little more within her reach, if that dream could ever come to fruition. But that didn't mean she was any less angelic, radiant in the warmth from the sun. Still too good to waste her time with Colibri Haki.

Yours is soo good, I don’t care about the length. I only keep going in hopes of there being something of worth among the mass.
I'm in love with them... 500+

Anu wanted the flower, but more Anu wanted what it would mean. She wanted the promise that Coli gave, and wanted more then ever to have the little female visit her. What she didn’t want was to feel the hesitation, and the fear that was becoming more overwhelming by the moment. She tried to protect herself, keep her heart off her sleeve and away from the open. Anu could try to lock it in her chest, but the young woman’s fragile fingers had pulled it forward. Coli had the power to take it, and Anu was finding it hard to fight it. How the inexperience and confusion of the female before her wrap around her with a steel grip, held her in place and made her beg for more, Anu would never know. And even with all the fluttering, with all the unraveling that she felt going on inside, Anu kneeled calmly with a face as soft and natural as it could be. She wanted to be calm and solid, because Coli could not be.

The words she spoke made Anu smile, and she waited with patience for her to speak. Blue eyes locked on her face, and Anu tried not to will the words to come. Instead she waited, wanting Coli to say exactly as she felt, for them to come naturally and with feeling. A soft fluid, Of course. came from her lips as she questioned her. How could Anu not? She wasn’t the type to steal things from another and then not live with guilt. She could not call the emotion that came to her as she thought of that moment guilt, but in a way it was similar. Anu had felt her heart sing out to the little fey, had wanted her the moment she saw her. But that was not commonly felt in return. Anu had brought more then one female into her world, and then was left as they returned back to the one that nature provided for them. She would not allow Coli to fall, unless she was whiling and unless she knew there might be no return.

Her ears jumped at the sound of the word, kiss something they had been dancing around since they had seen each other. Anu felt her heart begin to race, and began to feel the nervousness that Coli radiated. The pink that flushed through the light fur of her face was matched in her own, and Anu felt the heat begin to rise in the rest of her body. Her fears were calmed, as the last of her words came to the air. She was surprised to hear that their kiss had been her first, but more so that she had indeed enjoyed it. Enough to want it again. Anu looked at her, taking a long moment before reaching to the fumbling hands that spoke of Coli’s nervousness. There was a current that pulsed as she touched her, and she let her eyes wander to the hand that gently touched the soft fingers. Their color contrasted, the light of her own against the rich deep color, and it felt as natural as when she let her hand slid into fresh soil her color resembled.

Returning her eyes, Anu finally had the words she had been searching for as if they had been held in Coli’s hand. I imagined it, many times. But feared I wouldn’t find you, and then if I did… She paused, feeling the courage and the calm that she had shown falter. Regaining it in a second breath, and being unable to hide it from the woman Anu continued. that you wouldn’t want to remember it. Anu feared that she would have been ashamed, or forgotten all together. She had found it foolish to hold onto a fleeting moment in time, a drunken moment that would mean nothing to the woman she had seduced. But it had, and Anu was scared of her. She feared the fragile girl that looked to her for a guiding hand. But despite the fear, Anu would never reject her. Even with the threat of falling once again Anu was helpless to fight it.

lost into the weight of gravity

The aromatic flowers around her were pushed from her mind, their sunny faces abandoned in favor of one face in particular. Coli wanted to blurt out how many times she had planned to seek her out, and how many times her courage had failed her, distracting her with menial tasks and conversations that were quickly forgotten. She wanted to say how even though the wine had blurred her memories of that night, her dreams kept the moment alive, returning her to the lake that glittered with a thousand stars. She wanted to admit that even though her imagination had built up great expectations for Anu's beauty and kindness and attractiveness, that right here and right now she had already surpassed everything. Coli had never been in this situation before, had no way she could have prepared herself for this complete immersion. It had made her so nervous, believing that she had made a horrible mistake in taking that beautiful kiss seriously, because it was probably nothing to the worldly Crimson Dreams werewolf, and she would be lucky if the woman even remembered her name. And yet, against all odds... who had appeared but Anu, calm and smiling and dazzling.

Anu had transformed her, given her hope without even meaning to, giving her a reason to dream. She knew she barely knew the woman, and it was too soon to call it "love", as Haven had gently reminded her. It took time, understanding, patience, a great deal of things of which she had little experience. This was her first crush. Perhaps that made her a late bloomer, or she could chalk it up to how her sire had stunted her maturity. She had tried to ask for advice, but no one had been able to come through for her. She still didn't know if she was being impetuous, if it was a terrible idea to try and commit herself to a high-ranked female of another pack who was just coming off a serious rebound, or if at her core she really did prefer the company of males and was just too traumatized to deal outright with that side of her. There were a million things wrong with her. She knew it. She had tried to be as open as she could with Anu, so that she knew it, too. And despite all of her problems... this was still happening. And Colibri couldn't have felt happier.

A soft hand clasped around her fidgeting fingers, instantly stilling them as the warmth flooded from the meaningful contact. A reward, for her bold request. She inhaled the sweet scent of the older fae beside her, trying to keep the dreamy smile from wreathing her muzzle as she exhaled. It had been like this, when they shared the sunset - how had they ever parted ways? Knowing now how real this was, that someone really did exist to make her heart race with anticipation, she didn't think she could ever walk away again. How was Anu always so calm around her? If they felt anything alike, both of them should be reduced to stammering, blushing little girls - and at that moment, she saw that the tendrils of pink had indeed begun to scrawl upwards through the pale-furred wolf's countenance, and it gave her another hit of courage. "How... could I not want to remember the best night of my life?" she whispered, vivid blue eyes searching the other's face, helplessly captivated. Whether or not Anu had meant to bring the innocent woman into her world, she had fallen completely under her spell. It was her magic-laced words that would cut her loose, or ensnare her forever... and the naive girl did not want to be released.

this isn't very good... 500+

Every part of her wanted to be close to the other female, and just one told her to keep her distance. It was a memory that made her pause, made the wolfess second guess every action. Had this happened with Geneva? Was this the same situation? The questions suddenly bombarded her mind, sending Anu into a hidden state of anxiety. How did she make her feel this way, the way the other gray coated woman had? Anu was no a novice when it came to fleeting relationships. No, Anu could not blame every failed partnership on the other, but she was always felt with the same feeling. She would never be enough, no matter how hard she tried. She could tell now, or at least she hoped that she could, when it would be only a passing phase, something for Coli to grow out of. Though as she watched her, the long hair threatening to cover the angelic face of the young woman, Anu wanted to try once again and know how deep they might journey.

And then she was suddenly lost, amid the need she felt, the gravity that had turned and pulled her closer the younger female, and those soft cautioned features of her face. She was lost in the bright waters of the girl’s blue eyes, and the future that had been only hazy with possibilities was now unknown entirely. In the same instant Anu wanted to move forward, she cried to move away. To have her heart broken again, or to break the sweet heart Coli possessed were possibilities that she did not want to make reality. The only way to protect it would be to shy away, hide it within her chest and let nothing touch it. Even if it was possible for her to do so, Anu knew that its whole form was not worth the risk. Risk would be; walking away, leaving and letting all of it stay unknown. Risk of loosing the connection that held them among the flowers that they loved so dearly. Risks Anu was not whiling to take.

Eyes could only watch her, trying to read the thoughts inside her mind. Anu hoped there was hesitation and second-guessing. She wished desperately that Coli knew everything, things that Anu hadn’t told a single soul. Her past, the way she had let the love she and her mate had once had slip from their fingers in hopes of being with another. Everything. The broken pieces of her heart that were left when Geneva had left for another pack, and the anger and hatred she felt towards her now. She wanted all of it to be just understood, but never wanted to speak the painful words. But the ones that passed through her ears made her melt, and a smile that had been lost while she debated with reason and emotion returned. How she wanted to be that for her, the yearning to be the best of everything, to be there for all of her favorite memories and to hold Coli in her own felt right. It was a feeling that came quickly and swept them both into a whirlwind.

Anu let her eyes part from her face, looking down at the flower that had been offered to her. It was a promise, not a commitment. A promise and a chance, a chance to see each other again and the promise of remembrance. It was hard for Anu to forget her past; it was impossible to keep it at arms length. But she refused to let it be the precedent for her future. It was opportunity, a chance, and a risk. If only Coli knew that Anu was not as innocent as she was, I felt as if it was a dream, that moment, Blue eyes met their match, searching and hoping to explain that she was no fairytale, she was not new to the love of women and she was a poor teacher, but failed miserably. when I kissed you. Finishing the sentence made it more real to the older female, now that she said the verb aloud as well. Now I know how real you are. And how she felt, and how confused she was. Anu held her head slightly tighter, as if feeling the memory she held of that night and guiding Coli towards the possibilities.

lost into the weight of gravity

She felt the pressure increase around her hand, welcomed the grip that would not let her go. It felt so warm - and not just from the rich almost-summer weather, but radiating from those pale-furred fingers themselves. It was all she could feel, the tingling of their intermingling pulses, the subtle curves to the smooth pawpad of her palm, the scant difference between the sizes of their feminine hands. What would it be like, for those gentle reassuring fingers to run through her mane...? Or to glide down her spine, an intimate caress that she had not yet known in her short, lonely life. She was not creative enough to think beyond the most basic of embraces, but that was enough for her. She couldn't be greedy.

"I felt it was a dream, too," she agreed softly, her tail swaying in a slow figure-eight behind her, trying to relieve the nervous energy building up inside of her. Her mind raced so far ahead of her body, it was difficult to stay focused. Especially with Anu's touch distracting her so. "I'm so happy it wasn't..." And she smiled as proof, timidly letting her shining blue eyes gaze deeply into the clear ice-water pools of Anu's irises, intimidated by the depths she found there, but tentatively willing to drown in them all the same. She let her second hand slide free to trace the back of the sandy-blond paw, following the delicate carpals beneath the surface, the fragile framework that lent Anu her grace, all the while lost in her eyes. It could still be a dream, for all she knew. Although if it was some elaborate hallucination, why had the vision waited so long to come back again? Maybe it was brought on by heatstroke and wine. It sure felt real, though.

Suddenly embarrassed by her lovesick behavior, Coli ducked her head, breaking the spell. She was a little more self-conscious, out in broad daylight - but not for her own reputation, which was nonexistent, but rather her potential paramour. What sort of rumors would be spread to slander her reputation if it got out that she was courting the young daughter of Haku Soul? A silly concern, but Anu was supposed to be a public figure, a leader of her pack, a loving mother. Well... supposedly. Maybe now was a chance to learn who her lovely dryad was at home... "I... I still don't know if you're real or not; you're too p-perfect to be a normal wolf. Can you... can you tell me what it's like in your home, in Crimson Dreams? I... met your son, Haven, last month. What are... your kids like?" She swallowed anxiously, clinging to Anu's hand so that she would not vanish. Was it taboo to speak of reality to an angel? Would she have to fly away now, because Coli's curiosity got the better of her? She meant no harm - it was just, Anu had offered her a home there, away from relatives and stress, and... she hadn't forgotten that offer, either.

Anu took her in with every inhale, her scent was no longer the intoxicating perfume that she felt she had become addicted to. It was a soft pleasant fragrance, it was reassuring and calming. It was as light as a passing flower, there... and then lost with the change of the breeze. She clung to it tightly, not wanting the wind to change its course. Anu waited for each breath, looking forward to the slight tickle that it caused her nose. For a moment she wished to close her eyes, living in the scent and letting it absorb her completely. But Anu kept her eyes on her face, not wanting to give too much away in her pliable features. It took all of her control the hide the insecurity that fluttered in her stomach. It took everything with in from touching the soft fur of her cheek, to indulge in the pleasure of letting her finger tips run soft across her face. To feel and hold her gentle jaw, to say her same softly before giving in to her hearts demands and allowing their lips to touch. She would need restraint, Anu would have to gather ever bit of it to keep herself at the distance that she needed to be.

The breath she unknowing held exhaled as she smiled deeply at Colibri’s second sentence. Of course it wasn’t, they were as solid and real as the flora the sat beside. They were children of the earth, planted and rooted to the ground like the charges they cared for. Still, moments with heads and hearts among the clouds were possible, but rare. Though they oddly seemed frequent enough for the pair. Was that what made their hands fit so perfecting within each other, the dirt that covered them mixed as perfectly as palms and finger. Anu flinched at the touch of her fingers, but as they traced over it she instantly melted. They were gentle, tentative and held the softness of her very being. Anu could not pull her eyes away, holding onto her as Coli searched. From within Anu hoped to show that she was nervous, but the feelings would not come to her face. The moment she looked away Anu found that their connection was still not broken. It was in the air that flowed between them, their lightly clasped hands.

Words flowed from the young woman’s mouth, and they surprised the tawny fey. Her smile widened, and before she could reach the words that she had wanted to say Coli brought forth the life Anu had been hiding. Of course she held no shame for the family that she had, but it was not something that she felt the younger fey would want to know. It held all of her secrets; things she had wanted to speak aloud but could never find the courage to express. Instead she spoke of what came naturally. There are four, Haven, Brooklyn, Salem and Mati. They’re wonderful, though the boys have found their own paths. Anu paused, wondering when the woman would find her to be nothing like she thought. Still she could not stop the confession, I am not their real mother, I was her mate. Anu felt her throat freeze as the last words fell from her mouth. What Coli knew of her life could not be read from her deep earthen face. Still, the strength to ask was missing.

And instead her eyes fell, gathering the courage that she needed to explain. There was concern on her face, her smile withering like a shadowed geranium. Her voice was a whisper, but held threads of steal between their syllables. I am not perfect Coli, not like you. Anu looked to her then, a weak smile finding its way to her face as she look to her as if she hadn’t seen her face for ages. Each time their eyes met Anu felt the powerful need to draw her close. From the moment they met Anu had wanted to show her that love was possible, no longer a fleeting thought, no longer a dream. It was real and alive. And still there was hesitation, but who was she trying to save? Anu hoped to think it was the girl before her that she wanted to keep unharmed. No words would come but the thought ran vividly through her mind.… I don’t hold your innocence

lost into the weight of gravity

Haven, Salem, Brooklyn, Mati. She had met one of the four, and found a resonating soul within him, someone she could instantly relate to. Yet another sign that something cosmic was drawing her to this family, something that made them all irresistible to her. She was aware of the bare facts, but still - she could not hide the flicker of pain that flashed in her eyes, hearing her Anu admit that she had belonged to another. Of course it was true, and she had already known that, so why did it sting to hear it come from her lips...? They had promised nothing to each other. Coli was barely an acquaintance at this point, despite the mutual attraction - or addiction - that they felt. But it hurt, suddenly forced to imagine the sandy-blond werewolf in the arms of another, sharing lingering glances and intimate caresses - and of course, in her imagination, the faceless "other woman" was far more beautiful and skilled and better in every way. "I... I see," she choked out, overwhelmed by how quickly the tides of peace had crashed into envy. This was her fault, for asking nosy questions. Maybe it would have been easier to pretend that she was the only one in Anu's life, rather than the jealous truth.

A vague question that had been nudging at the corners of her mind had been answered; how did same-sex pairs go about starting a family? She assumed that they had to adopt their children, but there was another option, the option that Haven's parents had chosen, whether purposefully or by happy accident. One of the two loving ladies could agree to bear a man's children. Perhaps the question she should have been asking was "how do you choose the sire", but those thoughts were far beyond the here and now. As much as thoughts of motherhood and puppies appealed to her inexperienced mind, she knew that it wasn't anything she would be lucky enough to participate in anytime soon.

Anu's shining gaze dropped, her smile faltering weakly. Coli couldn't help but tighten her grip on the woman's hand - she couldn't slip away, not now! No matter the burdens of reality. They both suffered from it. Didn't everyone? Hiding her life didn't mean it doesn't exist. The words rang in her head, but the echoes paled before they could slip from her lips. The best she could offer was a faint whine, a flat pathetic mewl that cried of neediness and sympathy. She was certainly the farthest thing from perfection - a feeble-minded child in a grown woman's body, cut off from the world by her own barriers, praying for acceptance and mediocrity without putting forth any effort to achieve it. How had she ever managed to convince anyone otherwise? How long would she continue to drag down those around her, relying on their support to keep her own miserable spirits up? "I... don't know where you could possibly have g-gotten the idea... that I was... perfect," she managed to whisper bitterly, hating to contradict the older fay, but hating the lie more. Anu was perfect, she was set atop that pedestal to stay, but she didn't need to waste her pity on someone this hopeless. She didn't want to waste Anu's time. But she couldn't possibly prise her paws away from the warm hand in their grip, either. She was still selfish enough to never let go. What did she really want? It was all so confusing!

i want another after this. a few more and then we can close?
500+

Only once in her life had Anu been made to feel like she was wrong in the choice she made. The choice being; the female she had taken as her first mate. Another had sought revenge for being rejected, and such pain could still be felt along her right leg. But Anu had not changed as he had wished, she hadn't sought the commitment from a male, she refused to think that such desire and unwavering devotion could not be found in the arms of another female. She had chosen to take another mate, years after, who was with child and had felt the worst pain a male could bring. And then again she found that desire and lust draw her to a fey that had never know such love. It was unending, and weakened her each time love dwindled or every time she was rejected. It was easy for the experienced female to see the trouble that worked through Coli’s eyes. Anu could hear the thoughts, the questions and the worry. But this was not her first, and the small words that the chocolate delight spoke made it obvious to her that she had not know.

Our love faded, either of us could understand it. See, she was broken. Something within did not make it possible for love to remain constant and for it to work, and she had hurt Naniko and confused her just as much as she no doubt confused Colibri. Anu did not want that, and could not manage finding that they both stood before each other with hearts bleeding and not understanding why or how they had been broken. Her words were a confession that coincided with others that she made. The blue orbs that looked to her made Anu want to spill every secret that she had, wanted to tell her every desire and want. But the control that came with age held them back, as well as fear of chasing her away.

Looking with almost pleading eyes Anu felt the pressure against her hand. The soft touch was no longer, but Colibri embraced her paw as if holding onto the very thing Anu needed to pull away. Her heart beat rapidly, faster then before and with a drum-like beat in her ear. She controlled her breathing, willing it to be just the slow in and out. It hardly listened. Her entirety was enthralled by the voice that filled her thoughts, each part disobeying their owner and falling to the power of the beautiful female that spoke. Her words did not sound like commands, but each followed it and changed. They made her smile, while she should have frowned. They made her hand open, taking the fingers that held it and feeling the soft fur gently. The tone brought her head closer, as if she could not hear them, though Anu hung on each word and waited eagerly for the next. Eyes looked down when they should have stared her in the face to ask to be released.

They made her want to never go, when she should have turned her back.

Anu looked to their hands, taking it with one paw and gently placing their palms together as she spoke. I could list the ways, Colibri Haki. When she should guard her heart, it was the eyes of life giving water and a face that was a soul warming sun that made her expose her heart freely. I never want you to feel anything less. And then, as the words passed her lips Anu had to turn her thoughts towards her responsibility, there was nothing more important then saving themselves from heartache. You will visit me? She paused, but only for a breath. Say you will. Tell me, Anu thought, that you will chase me as I run from you. The woman could not bare the thought of letting their paws slip away, but she needed to think without the master her heart and body had devoted themselves to.

lost into the weight of gravity

Anu's quiet confession was peaceful, but her words concealed much pain. How did love fade? Did that mean it didn't hurt anymore? Had one of them changed too far for the other to keep up with? They were questions Coli knew she could never ask, not without dredging up more pain for the older woman. The youth had no experience with falling in love, so how could she know how couples fell apart? Her jealousy ebbed back, assuaged by the explication. If the feelings were no more... then it wouldn't be fair to be envious that they had once existed. It was still something that would bother her, though, until she could have more faith in the bond between Anu and her and only her.

Coli felt herself wilting at those words of farewell, her ears drooping visibly as her grip weakened. Anu was leaving, again. This time it was the middle of the day, no excuse about them being out late or in neutral territory. If the wolfess from Crimson Dreams wanted to stay longer, there was a painfully empty room in the cabin right in front of them. But she was leaving, leaving, leaving. And she wasn't going to come back, either - it was Coli's job to find her this time, her sacred duty. If only she had kept her stupid mouth shut! If she hadn't been greedy for information and asked foolish questions, Anu would have stayed and been happy and kissed her again and taken the flowers, and everything would have gone the way it was supposed to. Ohh, why had she been so stupid?!

"Th... the flowers," she whispered disjointedly, letting her limp hands tug free from their embrace. She scratched numbly at the fresh dirt until it loosened, scooping her fingers delicately through the clump of roots beneath the pink lady's slipper. There had to be a memento of their encounter. Even if Anu wanted to turn her down, she couldn't when the plant was already uprooted, right? It would need to be tended to. "T-take... care of them... I'll... try to visit," she murmured dully, missing Anu already. They might never see each other again, and it was her fault. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This was why she'd never have a mate, of any gender. She just couldn't interact like a normal wolf. There was something fundamentally wrong with her, unfixable, broken! She stared at the curving petals dangling from the whippy stems between her claws, her bowed head too heavy to lift. This was the only thing that had kept her hopeful in the last month - waiting to see Anu again. Now she had screwed it up. What was left?

i know. another one soon, promise!

Even if she needed to Anu could not explain how she and Naniko fell apart. There had been many catalysts, the male had been one, the children, and her own little secret, Geneva. But Anu could find peace in those things now, or a similar form of harmony. She wanted nothing more then to forget the choices she had made that led to the weakening of their bond, but her past was just as prevalent as she knew Coli’s was. It had molded her to become the wolf she was at this very moment. And as that experienced had changed her, for better or worse, Anu would not be the same after this experience either. The flutter of her hungry heart, and smile that appeared before she knew to create it and the tingle under her fingertips as they touched her fur and then her skin told Anu it was a change for the better.

Away. her weak reasonable mind spoke. Space and time to think without the haze and cloud that Colibri created was what Anu sought. The parting of their connected hands made her look to them again, flexing her own as if testing the sensitive nerves. They still fired and felt. Blue eyes found the flowers the woman had released from their comfortable home to be given to her. Out of the soil, their most important and sensitive parts dangling from her paw, Anu was made to look back at the warm cream accented face of the fey. Was Coli a delicate flower, her favorite, being plucked from its comfort to be taken away and planted somewhere new. Anu took the flower happily, a smile only faltering as she heard the word, try.

Selfishly Anu wanted more, needed her to promise instead of only make an attempt. She only hesitated for a moment. Maybe Coli was have a second thought, the chance that she no longer wanted to visit became very real. But there was unhappiness in her eyes that Anu could not miss. There was a hesitation of her own and of course insecurity. Head low and towards the ground Anu feared she had not just confused her but hurt Coli with her sudden need to be released. Her hand rose disobediently, touching the face that she had forbidden herself from caressing. Her thumb ran under her chin, and Anu felt the ringing and chill along her spine. It wasn’t until their eyes met that Anu spoke, Promise. Anu could taste the plea in the single word. Because, they will miss your caring touch. The words spoken as her fingers ran weightlessly over the light tone of her cheek. A smile spoke of the needed she felt, but in an instant Anu regained control of all the unruly parts of her body and even fought her legs to stand and won.

lost into the weight of gravity

The thought of abandonment, of being left behind to her lonely solitude again was almost too much to bear, and her hand rose to her chest, feeling a dull ache throbbing within. It took her a moment to recognize the pain as her own weary heartbeat, struggling against the odds to keep her going. It shouldn't be like this - she shouldn't have pinned so many of her hopes on Anu falling in love with her and whisking her away to a happily ever after. Maybe that sort of thing couldn't happen between two females anyway. It was all unfamiliar territory to her.

She peered through the veil of her eyelashes, soaking in one last image of the lithe werewolf before her. She was suddenly struck with the vision of a desert - golden sand radiating warmth, cool oases of ice-blue water framed by the rays of the sun. Anu reminded her somehow of a benevolent desert, salvation cupped between her life-giving fingers. She was simply too perfect to be a plain old wolf. Perhaps instead of a ghost, she was a nature spirit. Colibri's imagination always ran wild when it came to the object of her affections.

And then the soft fingers touched her, and she could not help herself from leaning into the caress, a contented hum sighing from her lips. The weight had been lifted; everything was healed by Anu's magic. The suffocating loneliness would creep back into her heart as soon as that delicate warmth receded, but in that brief evanescent moment, she was entangled in the web all over again. "I... I'll miss yours," she admitted shamelessly, rubbing her clammy palms against her light belly-fur. Why were they sweating all of a sudden? Was she nervous already, trying to snatch hold of the fleeing strands of the encounter? Such a violent rise and fall of emotions, always turbulent on the inside. She was worn out by her own mood swings, from happy to anxious to sad to happy again. Rising abruptly to her feet, the young werewolf swallowed and spoke quickly, her words tumbling over themselves in a rush to speak them all at once. "I - I'll walk you to the borders, so you don't have to l-leave on your own. And then I'll visit you, I can't stay away, but I don't know how soon is appropriate, so you should tell me if it's alright, and, and, I'll do what I can..." Her sky-blue eyes shone earnestly, eager to please at the last second. She hated goodbyes. But if she hadn't ruined this after all, then there was still hope... Even if she chattered like an idiot, she must have some redeeming quality to have piqued Anu's interest. She just wished it would be enough to hold her there longer.
